Beta changes missing in final LR4

What happened to all the cool Develop module changes that were in the beta, like being able to paint in white balance, etc. with the Adjustment Brush? White point?
So far as I can tell, the Develop module looks identical to LR 3.5.

Yes they do.
I wouldn't go updating previously developed photos willy nilly, because it doesn't map exactly. I believe it's better to change in the long run, but not every photo needs to be changed right now.

  • Gaining better resolution from my final cut hd express films

Hey, can anyone help my on going conundrum once and for all. I've asked editors, all be it avid based, apple technicians and i've still yet to have a definite answer. I've been editing on my macbook using imovie 08 HD, which has been fairly adequate. However, I also have a g5 powermac with th final cut express HD software. I'm not too fussed about livetype and other beneficial FX that final cut express can offer, but what i do want is a better resolution for the finished product, as the final result tends to be a bit blocky. I used to work in TV as director and so have sat in on many an edits. I guess what i'm after is the amateur version of onlining, if this exists??? with AVID suites, in simple, this basically involves re-entering all the rushes, but i've got a funy feeling that it's not that simple sat at home, as the kit in an online suite, would set me back a couple of 100K!
I guess in short what i'm asking asking is A) will i gain a better resolution from using final cut HD express and B) how do you gain the highest possible resolution on either pieces of software. My camera is the Sony Z1 and i'm currently using iDVD.
If anyone can help I'd be hugely grateful!!

thanks for the hospitality! i only wish i'd used the forum earlier...it's nice to there are still decent people out there, willing to share their knowledge..!
my macbook is the 2GHz core duo, but not sure about the G5, it's circa 2004 (i know that's no real help!)
the 'blockyness' in imovie has been there from day 1 and always appears after i have burned the movie off in idvd or merely exported it to an mpeg4 file or likewise and on sequences where i have applied an effect, especially raised the exposure levels the 'blockyness; is almost lego like! but as a general rule of thumb, when editing the rushes look great. once they've been exported its as if they have become 2nd/3rd generation. I've imported stuff to final cut express 2 (recently got the upgrade software to HD express) the rushes look fine, but i'm presuming once i export the same will apply. The quicktime software i'm using is the 7.4.5 version, can this have an effect on the quality? and whether or not the movie is viewed back on the mac or through an external video monitor, the same quality is apparent. I am capturing straight from the camera, but not sure if im using cinemode, this isn't a feature i'm aware of in the menu of the Z1.
I'm no steve jobs, but I'm pretty sure the problem lies around the exporting stage of my movie making. for example, when with imovie, when i produce a title. the edges of the lettering are perfect. once it's been exported, the edges of all the letters are very soft. I've had a look at some other discussion group pages to see if anyone shares the same problem. somebody proposed changing the expert settings in imovie8 which i did but to no avail.
I have toast software that i have not yet used, would this make any difference?
Many thanks again for your guidance.

  • New changes for the final cs6 release?

i am testing cs6 for a while, an i am quite happy with the results.
that said i am wondering how much is going to be changed till the final release!
i found some small performance issues for me, so i was wondering if there would be any performance or GPU changes that probably gonna resolve the issues i found.
or any other changes at all? what should we expect from the final release compared to the beta?
    thanks!

The idea behind the public beta is to get users like yourself to test Photoshop CS6 in real world situations, so that the engineers can make any last minute bug fixes. Performance issues are one of their biggest focuses. They're trying to ensure that Photoshop CS6 runs smoothly with as many systems/graphic cards as possible. Of course, make sure your drivers are up to date is essential as well.
In terms of features, what you see is most likely what you will get in the final release. The beta is mainly to smooth out the bugs/performance quirks.
If you come across any bugs/performance issues, be sure to report them in this forum, along with a detailed report. FAQ: I found a bug. How do I write a useful bug report?

  • All of my titles, themes and generators seem to be completely missing from Final cut pro x. Do you know how to get them back?

All of my titles, themes and generators seem to be completely missing from Final cut pro x. Do you know how to get them back?

Do you mean that when you click the title browser, for example, nothing is there?
Do you at least see several categories listed in the effects browser?
First make sure that you have nothing typed into the search box (not even spaces).
If you still see nothing, try this in order:
    1) Window->Revert to Original Layout
    2) Quit FCP X, delete preferences using Preference Manager (a free download from Digital Rebellion)
    3) Download FCS Remover, and use it to completely remove FCP X. This will NOT delete your content, just the application.
    4) Reinstall FCP X from the Mac App Store: log in with the same Apple ID that you used to buy FCP X, click on "Purchases", locate FCP X and click Install.

  • How to add/change missing header lines in RNIF B2B?

    Hi all,
We are using RNIF exchange protocol. We have sent invoice from BPEL to B2B. The message invoice reaches the trading partner but they are unable to process it or sent ack back as few header lines are missing in the RNIF envelope.
Can anyone tell me or provide some pointers abt how to add/change missing header lines in B2B?
    These are the headers missing:
    Delivery header:
    <locationID> <Value>HostTradingPartner</Value> </locationID>
    Service Header:
    <messageStandard>
    <FreeFormText xml:lang="EN">PIDX</FreeFormText>
    </messageStandard> <standardVersion>
    <VersionIdentifier>1.0</VersionIdentifier>
    </standardVersion>
Can anyone provide some inputs on this?

As per RNIF standard, all these header elements (locationID in Delivery Header & messageStandard and standardVersion in Service Header) are optional. As you are using RossettNet over RNIF, so Oracle B2B might not be setting these headers.
I do not have a 10g setup here so cann't test it. I would suggest you to raise a case with Oracle Support because PIDX is a non-RossettaNet standard and it's implementation in Oracle B2B will be different to RossettaNet implementation. Meanwhile, I would try the same in B2B 11g setup.

  • Change default to Final tracking in word 2010

    Hi,
I was wondering if I can get some help with this show markup issue.
Every time I open up an existing word document, I see the mark-up thing on the right hand side. I went to Review on the menu toolbar to change it from final: show Markup to just final.
My question is if I want the default to be "Final", how do i go about it?
I have tried to deselect "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving" but to no avail.
I have also tried to uncheck "Keep track of formatting" under the word option and this does not work either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance

Create an AutoOpen macro in the Normal.dotm template (or in a template that is saved in the Word Startup Folder so that it acts as an add-in) that contains the following code:
    ActiveDocument.ShowRevisions = False
    Hope this helps.

  • CL20N Status changed: missing values for required chars for ROH & FERT

    Dear Expert,
I am getting this message no. CL500 (Status changed: missing values for required chars) when I try to save variant class (Class type 300) assignment to material master (Raw Material) with Released 1 status in CL20N; but I do not get this message during assignment for FERT. I can save a FERT with Released1 status to a variant class without any system message. I am using configurable material in purchasing and this message is not valid in this case. Is there anywhere I can turn off this message for raw material just like FERT?

  • Changing external editor in LR4

    Hallo,
Recently I have changed from CS4 to CS6. No when I open an image in LR4 and will do" edit in open as smart object", I can not select this option even the HDR or the pano option. In my external editor there is still edit in Photoshop CS4 instead of PS CS6. My additional editor there I can select my PS CS6 because I have add the CS6 as additional editor.

    See this Knowledge-Base article:

  • Upgrade to the Final LR4 Version

I have been using LR4 now for a few week now.  I just returned from the a holiday and used LR4 for all my editing.
Will I be able to upgrade to the final version of LR4 without losing all the work that I have done on my photos.
I wanted to use my old PSE 9 as a "backup" but dragging the photo across does not help because the photos reverts to the original losing the changes/edits in the process.

    Why the diversion to TIFF?
I would assume that if I save my changes to the xmp-part of the file (sidecar or embedded, depending on file type), they can get read again.
If I just convert my LR4beta-catalog to LR4final I might get some tweaks in develop, for auto-highlights, I would expect - crystal-ball-guessing from other threads that this is the area where the Adobe engineers might finetune according to feedback.
If I don't like that, I will invoke the command "Read metadata from file", to overwrite the upgraded LR4-catalog settings with the xmp-content.
It remains to be seen if this will result in a different translation of the edits than the upgrade from LR4b to LR4f.
But somehow *old* or *foreign* xmp-data are read as well, and not overriden by default LR. At least that is my understanding, for several generations of LR already: existing metadata will be imported and shown, while own defaults will be applied for new imports without metadata. Or once I start to do new develops, e.g. a reset.
So do I really need to go to TIFF to preserve my current LR4b-results?

  • Lightroom 4 beta #1 test complete - final results.

Regarding the default processing and basic tone controls:
Default processing (automatic shadow/highlight recovery) is awesome, usually. In cases when it's not it can be painstaking (and not always satisfying) to compensate for using basic controls and/or tone curve.
Basic tone controls have a fundamental design deficiency:
         - One can not make successive refinements, where each gets you closer to the goal. Sometimes you have to make corrections that goof up much of what you've already done, then settle everything back in, and then do it again. For example, one may need to increase exposure in order to have a little more "fill light". That will destroy all the work you've already done on the highlights, necessitating readjustment. I see this as a fundamental design flaw. And no, one can not always predict the proper exposure up front, when the proper setting means a massively blown out top end, for example. You must see what happens with the rest of your settings, in order to know what the proper exposure is.
Basic tone controls do not allow one to adjust photos with sufficient control without a lot of work (and sometimes even with a lot of work):
         - Too many of my photos end up with most tones good, but one or two tones are off. And there seems to be no good way to correct it without a lot of fiddling, tone curve, or locals. The reason is obvious if you adjust the various controls and watch their behavior in the histogram. Even if the tones in the photo click really nicely with PV2012 (and >50% do), it's possible to see the potential for trouble - for example, the adjustment of highlights and shadows do not have a smooth and organic blending with the adjacent zones. Maybe this can be corrected with some tweaks, but it definitely needs to be corrected.
    Bottom-line:
I'm done for now. I really hope Adobe will address these issues - I don't want to have to throw away the thousands of hours I've invested in Lightroom and plugins...
PS - I apologize in advance to those who would like me to post more examples than I and others already have. My sense is that most respondees will try to refute, and I just don't have the time/energy to take up a fight. Adobe will either get the message or they won't, and either remedy or not...
    Recommendation to others:
Make up your own mind about it. I'm sure results are just fine for some folk, but I can not, in good conscience, recommend Lightroom 4 to anyone at this point. The big print giveth, but the small print taketh away...

    Sorry John,
I think you are really unfair now to Rob.
I have read a lot in his posts about describing what the starting situation of an image is and what he wants to achieve.
Then how he progressed using the LR4-tools.
Where he had success and where not, because it drove him into an endless iteration circle starting again from exposure adjustment.
Nobody could adress his concerns or offer a solution how to better apply the new tools. Though he has asked several times for enlightenment, if such were to be had.
I was reacting to the constant whining....and was getting tired of hearing what could not be done (relative to PV2010) vs. what could be done on PV2012.  New software requires new learning....and I am sure Rob knows that...he even admits that he was reacting in frustration.
As Rob...and Eric...have said....the sliders are going to only get you so far....and eventually we will learn the fastest path, if we share that info....after that fine tuning maybe (will be) needed by doing it the old fashioned way....curves, dodging, burning, etc.

I will be interested in reading updates of "Real Word Camera Raw" or Michael Frye's  "Light and Land - Landscapes in the digital darkroom" and see how they cope - definitely a challenge.
Jeff does "Real WOrld CR", and we are hearing from him....and will in the LuLa video.  I am sure there will be lots of other authors such as David Du Chamin, Guy Tal, George Jardin, Lee Varis....who will update there workflow techniques to PV2012.....and all of them in a positive can do and here's how to do it manner.
The Adobe team wants to put out the best product/tool that they can.  How anyone could think that they would want to replace a nicely working (pv2010) solution with a "compromised" solution (pv2012) is quite unimaginable to me....and it is not change for change sake....the only reason to make this big and drastic a change at this time would be with the expectation that it will be dramatically better.  I am sure it will be....it might take some additional minor tweaks....but more important, positive attitude and learning of new things by us.

  • G5 Power PC vs Imac...which is better for editing with final cut studio 2?

    This is my present computer:
    iMac 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo (2008 model)
4 gigs of 800 mhz ddr2 sdram (this is the max ram for this computer! )
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512 MB
Hard drive: 465 gig (I use mainly external drives for editing)
I use this mainly for video editing with final cut studio 2.
    Rendering in compressor takes forever!!!
A friend suggested I pick up a used G5 Power PC.
I found this one, here are the specs:
APPLE POWER MAC G5 PowerPC DUAL CORE (2 x 2 GHZ)
    System Mac OSX 10.5.8
    RAM 12 GB
1 Hard drive of 160 Gb
    Superdrive 16x CD/DVD/DL DVD (32x)
Video card NVIDIA GeForce 6600 (VRAM 256 Mb)
    3 open PCI-Express expansion slots.
    1x FireWire 800
    3x FireWire 400
    4x USB 1 and 2
    2x Ethernet Port
    2x Displays ports
Is this insanity or a smart move to move over to the older G5.
According to my friend, the older G5s are much better at processing video.
Is a dual 2 GHZ processor enough or would I need a 2.3 or 2.5?
OR is there another option that someone might be able to suggest?
I would be so appreciative of any opinions regarding this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Bill

Save your pennies and look for a refurbished or used MacPro. Early 2008 or newer 8 core machines w/8GB of RAM running 4 instances in QMaster will chew through material.
Beyond running compressor, it is just a better all round machine for editing video.
    • it has multiple internal drive bays which run via SATA connections - much faster than the FW800 limits of the iMac for external drives
    • it has 3 slots which give you the option of an i/o card from AJA, Blackmagic or Matrox so that you can actually monitor your video properly as well as ingest high end formats
    • the slots give you the ability to connect esata raids for even higher data speeds
    • you have much greater flexibility with computer monitors
    • you have much greater RAM capacity
    and so on ...

A friend gave me a computer that has Final Cut Pro 3 on it, but it is operating in French. Is there any way to change this? Thanks.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work. It's not the computer, but that application. As if it was installed in French somehow, or bought there. Maybe it was...
