Beta of ODT for VS 2008 Beta 2

I have installed Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 on a machine and would like to have
a beta of ODT for VS 2008 Beta 2. The beta that is available today have an ODT for VS2003 and VS2005 but not VS2008 (beta 2)

When is it scheduled for release?
I'm only working with VS2005 and would like to learn and use Oracle tools...
ODP + ODT with 10g express (and later with 10g 2nd release).
Is it stable so I could start using it and be a beta tester?

Hi,
The Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio forum may be a more appropriate place for your question, however
a) the Oracle Explorer is the "old" way. The lastest version of ODT (11g ODAC) includes integration into VS Data Sources and no longer uses Oracle Explorer.
b) 11g ODAC is the only ODT that will install into VS2008 as far as I know.
c) yes, you can use 11g ODT / ODAC to go up against a 10.2 database. Note though that 11g ODP has a lot of new features that didnt exist in 10.2 ODP, so you'd you may need to be careful about the code you write if you are required to deploy an app to a machine that has 10.2 ODP and cant use 11g ODP.

How to help my friend install Microsoft Office for Mac 2008

Hello, I have a friend in North Carolina whose mom recently got a MacBook Pro running OS X Mountian Lion (10.8), he will be coming on to join this discussion after I post it. He needs Microsoft Office for his mom and I just happened to have purchase 3 licenses (two of which I have already utilized). While talking to him over a Facetime call, I walked him through the steps of getting the free office for mac 2008 package from download.com (which seemed kind of sketchy). While the download actually looked legitimate, we ran the installer and it gave some kind of weird error message that said something like "Could not be installed onto Macintosh HD because the Mac OS X is not on that parition" (I'm paraphrasing my friend will contribute the actual message). Could someone please walk us through an easier (and preferably more secure) process? We just need to get to the point where I can give him my last license key. Thanks!

You will have to check with Microsoft but I think what you are doing is illegal. The 3 license pack I think means 1 user 3 computers, not 2 users 3 computers.

Have you noticed that your iMac's screen is less glossy than normal?
Do you prefer this over having an additional panel of glass making your display overly and unnecessarily glossy?
It may not look as pretty, but I'll bet your screen looks better and sharper and you may be getting a benefit of added heat dissipation. Also, not to mention, less eye strain and/or headaches
You will just have to be a little more careful with the iMac's real TFT screen if you choose this option.
A little more careful cleaning it and making sure no liquids get inside.
It's up to you what you want to do.
You can order the panel, anyway, but choose not to replace it until you sell it or have to bring in for repairs.

Hi All,
I am using VS 2008 for developing against Oracle 10g DB.
I am interested in debugging a stored procedure in Oracle DB. Since I am using VS 2008, I don't see ODT 10g setup for VS 2008.
Is there any way I can manually add Oracle Data Explorer 10 version for VS 2008.

Unable to load driver for Storage for Windows 2008 UCS B230 M2

I am trying to Boot from SAN windows 2008 R2. I have configured and connected the Cisco UCS Chassis and FI to our Network & Storage .I am having problem to install Windows 2008 R2 Server on Blades as it is not able to see Storage LUN while installation .I downloaded drivers from Cisco Support Site.
I tried drivers from ISO ucs-bxxx-drivers.2.1.3 latest version but Windows is showing driver is available but not installing the driver I am getting the following error and not showing the LUN hard disk to select the installation.
Windows is unabe to locate storage LUN. I am able to LUN while booting process.
I am not sure where I am doing wrong.or I am chosing wrong driver.

I don't see the error message either, but to install W2008 on a boot lun, you must
1) do the zoning of the vhba (initiator) to the pwwn of the storage subsystem port (target)
2) the lun masking / mapping has to be setup
3) fnic driver has to be installed
Therefore, if you don't see your boot lun, either 1) and or 2) has to be fixed
then
4) only one path should be configured (e.g. fabric a), because no multipathing is available during installation, this is very important, and necessary for W2003, 2008 and 2012
and
5) if you see the boot lun, and can install, but the boot fails, the problem is the boot policy !

This is an known issue in SSRS 2008 R2 SP3. For this issue, Microsoft has published an article addressing this issue. It is not planning to release a fix for this defect. But there's workarounds for this issue. Please refer to the link below:
Report Builder of SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 3 does not launch.

And for what it's worth, my choice would be (and is) LibreOffice, which I've used for about a year with nearly complete satisfaction. Last time I tried it three or four years ago, OpenOffice had the ugly, unrefined appearance of a Windows application; it had no Mac interface at all. That might actually be comforting to someone coming to the Mac from Windows, but as a 27-year Mac user, I hated it. I don't know whether OO has gotten a facelift in the intervening years.
The intermediate step between OO and LO was NeoOffice, which I used for several years. It was OpenOffice with a Mac face, and I liked it well enough. LibreOffice is its further evolution, more compatible with the latest MS Office files.

You could purchase any commonly available external USB DVD/CD writer, such as the excellent LG brand units sold on Amazon, for about $30 US. I've used an LG writer for years to save wear and tear on my older Superdrive.

Error in File UNKNOWN.RPT (Crystal for VS 2008)

I have read and implemented nearly every suggested solution to solve this riddle of a Crystal Error I am stumped with. Of course, on my dev box the report runs perfectly, as it should. However, if I deploy my simple report web project to my client's Windows 2003 Standard Server, running IIS 6, I get this error. I have literally implemented, or attempted to implement every single suggestion Google users have to offer, including adding security for nearly every user that has ever existed, to nearly every folder that has ever existed. I have uninstalled/reinstalled/upgraded from Crystal for VS 2008, up to Crystal 12, down to Crystal 10.....and the same exact error appears.
 
Here is what my report app consists of:
1. A single Crystal Report for VS 2008, in a reports folder (which I have granted full control permissions to everybody and my mother, along with permissions to Windows/Temp)
2. That report, when called from the code behind, loads the report and immediately exports the report to a stream, so I can render that stream to a pdf viewer for the user. (yes, very simple)
3. (I do pass load a dataset that is passed into the report too)
 
What happens on the server when the report is referenced/ran 
1. A Crystal .rpt file is geneated in the Windows/Temp folder 
2. The frustrating error appears on the screen 
 
I have read through all BO suggested fixes for this, and nothing. 
I have implemented all types of permissions changes, and nothing. 
I have checked then rechecked the registry settings (even though everything happens on the C: drive), and nothing 
I have reinstalled different versions/runtimes etc...and am now back to the original Crystal for VS 2008, and nothing 
 
My only total confusion, is that this report runs fine on my new Windows 2003 server. The only difference between my server and my client's server, is that my client's server also has Helm installed. That's it.
 
What is next? Is there any other solution I have not tried?

I would pin this on the Helm (e.g.; works without, does not work with...). Couple of things you can try:
1) Call who ever you got your particular Helm from and see if they have any ideas
2) Use Process Monitor to see if it tells you what files / folders / reg entries are not being accessed. ProcMon is here:

The terminology SP1 is a bit confusing. SP1 and such is mostly used with Win Office products. The latest update for Office 2008 is

Replacement optical drive for early 2008 MacBook

I own an early 2008 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" MacBook that appears to have developed a fault with the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E optical drive.
Unfortunately I am unable to get the optical drive replaced by Apple, as it seems they don't keep the parts for any machine over five years old. So I plan to replace the faulty unit myself. Can anyone recommend a replacement? The UJ-857E model doesn't appear to be available anywhere other than in the United states and then only as a refurbished unit and listed as an 857C which I assume to be from an earlier model.
I was wondering if there might be a more recent equivalent available that I might use instead. There seem to be several UJ-898 models for late 2008 MacBooks available, but I have no idea how much of a change Apple made to the internal configuration from early to late 2008.
Does anyone have any experience of replacing or upgrading their optical drive that they would be willing to share? I plan to follow the IFixit tutorials for the procedure. I just need to know what unit to buy as a replacement.
