My understanding ( which is not authoritative) is that a version 'x+1' OCA cannot be used in conjunction with version 'x' 'OCP' exam to produce an version 'x' certification.
One reason I can think of is some topics in the 'OCA' exam of release 'x' might move to the 'OCP' exam of version 'x+1'; or vice versa. The other reason is oracle want to encourage you to go for the later release and not to give you an incentive to go for a lower release as OCP. If you want to go for OCP at the the lower release then doing the OCA at the lower level should not be a big ask.

Exams can be scheduled whenever you like in whatever order you like.
Effectively when Pearson VUE notifies Oracle of an exam pass or [successful course verification ... which is treated like a pseudo exam pass] the candidate's exam history is examined to trigger any new certifications for which the candidate has become eligible.

Which is better for gaming Java or C++?

a friend of mine told me that C++ is better for gaming, but i'm not sure. the thing about C++ is that i've been studing it for the past 3 years and still don't have a strong grasp of it, but java is much more direct and i'd much rather develop my games in java.

I have finished to programme a game (Space Commanders) using pure java
http://www.geocities.com/ddmusc/SpaceCommanders. Now I am re-programming the game using Visual C++ . Once I finish I shall put the windows version on the same site. It will be an interseting example of differences in performance between java and C++.
For programming I think java is easier since it takes automatic control of memory. Problems such as wild pointers , memory leaks and this kind of stuff are not an issue in Java. Unfortunately this is in itself also a disadvatage since you don't have much control on the amount of memory java is allocating (and at what time it deallocates it).
Java is also a bit slower because of its automaticity and high level structure. What makes me a bit angry about java is that programmes are normally CPU intensive. It is difficulty to run java programmes on old computers such as 486 or Pentium 1. This reduces the portability of the programme which though it can run on many different OSs it can't run on many different computers.

i was just wondering if employers are really that bothered about exactly how much you scored on your java 2 cert programmer's exam? If so, then what is considered a decent score or percentage?

I don't think employers care as much about your score as the mere fact that you passed it. Getting a 52 (minimum to pass) would probably be considered "decent".

I have no previous knowledge in Java. My only programming skills is Oracle SQL (passed 1Z0-051 SQL Fundamentals I).

You have to pass 1Z0-803 Java SE 7 Programmer I for OCA and than take 1Z0-804 Java SE 7 Programmer II for OCP.

I'm a student and Just finished my java course. I planning to take the Java Certified Associate SE 5/6 Exam 1Z0-850 ASAP. My questions:
1) Is there a study guide available for this (thought I could fine OCA SE7 which will be released only on Aug 2012. Can't wait that long)? is
2) I read that there's no pre-req for this exam or is there?
I really need a study guide for this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Java SE 7 Programmer II 1Z1-804

I signed up a few weeks back to take the beta (1Z1-804) on 25/05 but the beta is now listed as closing on 12/05. I've received no notification from Oracle/Pearson asking me to re-schedule the exam before 12/05 if i still want to take it.
I called Pearson to re-schedule and was still able to re-schedule for 15/05 - after the exam closes !! Obviously I didn't and re-scheduled for 11/05 but being able to re-schedule for a later date has me confused. Do I HAVE to re-schedule to take it before the close date or does the change in close date not apply to those who have registered while the previous close date was in effect ? I could do with a few more days of prep so unless I absolutely HAVE to ...
Anybody have any experience registering for a beta with a moving close date ?

I did post this in another forum - Java Essentials/Certification but there doesn't seem to be much certification related activity there. Also i reasoned i have more chance of getting a response if it's a new question.

That would not happen. What we discovered had happened in this case is that Pearson VUE had set the end date as June 9. Oracle had set the end date as May 12. Looks like there was some mis-communication along the way. Since there are quite a few registrations for beta exams after May 12, the beta exam is being extended to June 9. This beta exam will now end on June 9. You can schedule your exam any time before that date.

Which is better:C++ or Java???

Hey,People (like my friends)keep tellin me that C++ is better, quicker, etc. than Java! I thnk Java is a lot better. What do you think is better and why so I could have a come-back when me and my friends are arguing about it?

Neither language is wholly "better" than the other. The more appropriate language is determined by the situation. For example, if you don't have much time to code and need your application to be incredibly portable with minimal extra code and testing, Java is almost certainly your best go. If, on the other hand, you want to write a specialized boot loader for your computer, C or C++ are better choices (primarily because Java can't do that).
Of course, if you know how to do things a certain way, the way you know how to do them is always better, even if it's less efficient...

Which is better ? Toplink Java objects or Toplink Entities ?

We are planing to use Toplink JPA that comes with JDeveloper 11g preview release
I have a question here!
I would like to get clarified which is better to use :
1. Toplink Java Objects from Tables ,
2.Toplink Entities from Tables
Could you suggest the best approach, and pros and cons of both the approaches?

Samba,
Ultimately both are using the same TopLink runtime. In the case of Entities you are using JPA and Java Objects you are using TopLink native API and metadata.
Going forward I would recommend JPA with TopLink extensions as required.

as an advanced programmer, which do you choose to code your program in c or java ?

no, theres no inline coding in java, you will have to use jni to use c++ code in java, but as the other postings said already, java is not the language for 3d game programming.
a combination of assembler and c++ will be the right way here.
