Beta Test Project – need advice

What is the best way to find a Salesforce.com "Enterprise" or "Unlimited" user who has 1000 or more contacts in their database? I am trying to beta test a very cool new plug-in connector that auto-updates and syncs info between SF and CoolerEmail, which will be provided. Not sure this is the right forum but I couldn't find a related CRM one. All help appreciated.

Hi mlandreth
What you are describing sounds almost identical to something

  • TV monitor display project, need advice.

So I will be starting a project soon for my job. It will require some content for a store lobby TV display screen. Basically I will be making some content, whether it be scrolling images, animations, or maybe a video clip playing automatically. I will have maybe all of these things to be played throughout the day in the lobby of my work for customers to be viewing. This is the first time I have taken on a project such as this and I'm not sure where to start. I need advice on what type of information I need in order to begin this such as what size to start my project as, format, etc. Thanks!

    Hi,
    You have two options:
    1. Create the Edge Animation on the Computer, and play the animation and use some screen capture software that will give you a video. This video you can play on your lobby TV  in loop.
    2. If the lobby TV is a smart tv (i.e. it has browser to navigate the webpage), then you can host the Edge animation content files on some server, and navigate to the server url, which will play the animation on the browser in the TV.

The password would be one you set yourself. If you have no data on the tablet that you need then entering a wrong password one more time will just wipe the tablet of all data and let you set it up again.

  • New Year Video Transfer/Edit Project - Need Advice

All you experts out there, please tell us if this plan will work?
We have 3 large boxes of family videos that we need to transfer to DVD.
We are about to purchase video-to-DVD transfer equipment. (Sony DVDirect VRD-MC5?)
We have iMovie, but haven't used it yet. We realize there will be a steep learning curve, but we did buy some books to help and have plenty of time to learn.
Plan: 1) Transfer, unedited, the videos to DVD using the Sony. Apparently this requires little oversight. 2) Load the DVD to iMovie for editing. One of us works a night job that often has a lot of down time that can be used to edit these DVDs. 3) Burn a new DVD, the "keeper" and then make copies for all the kids.
Is this our best option? Thanks for sharing your experience!

Given what you have said, I think the EyeTV Hybrid might be a good solution for you, although the Sony box may be OK too, but it will give you fewer options in the future if you or your kids decide to edit or move to the internet.
With the EyeTV Hybrid, you hook it up to the VHS VCR through the red, white and yellow cables out the back. It goes in to EyeTV software on the Mac. At this point, you can transfer it directly to some DVD burning software called [Toast|http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/overview.html], and never get iMovie involved. If you decide later to send to iMovie for editing, [EyeTV|http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/hybrid/product1.en.htm l] can send it there.
I have found that with the new iMovie 08, I can edit these videos rather quickly, cut out all the jerky camera pans, cut out the redundant scenes, and add titles and music. A movie that would take me a week in iMovie 6, I can now do in an evening.
My biggest advice would be to think through how you will use the video... e.g. DVD, iPod, internet, AppleTV, iMovie, anything you can think of that you will actually use in the near future.
Then, get the hardware and software you need and pick one tape and work it through the whole workflow so you understand everything from front to back. Then you can start picking up the speed and just doing the imports, etc.
    1) Where do we purchase a "digital analog converter"? Is there a brand name that works well? You >>make a good point about working with the original. Do we understand correctly that we'd use this >>converter to transfer a VHS playing in a VCR directly to iMovie where it could be saved and edited, >>burn a DVD, and then move on to the next VHS tape?
Canopus sells digital audio converters, which converts your analog into DV format, which is a good format for editing. The EyeTV, mentioned above, will take your analog and save it is MPEG2, which is the format that DVD players use, but requires some extra conversion before you edit it. So if you are primarily doing editing, go with the Canopus. If you are going straight to DVD, the EyeTV is fine.
    2) Does the Wii work like the Sony playbox? These are new things for us..., but we do have a Wii >> now - got it for Christmas.
Enjoy your Wii. I have heard they are great, but it will not help you play video (that I know of). The reason that some people use the Playstation 3 is that it has a built in BluRay player that can play high definition movies, and i has the added quality that you don't have to burn a BluRay DVD to put high definition content on it. You can use a thumb drive, for example. Not really relevant to your application.
    3) Does an Apple TV actually store the movies then? Can they later be downloaded, edited, and >> saved to DVD or whatever is the latest thing? (Obviously we don't have an Apple TV and don't >> know a thing about them.) Would this be a quick fix? If we could store them now, be able to
view them easily, and later, as we have time, we could edit and burn them to a DVD, that might >> be worth the money.
With the Apple TV, you can either store the movies on your Mac, or you can store them on the Apple TV. Usually, you would want to use the TV to watch edited movies, not long unedited ones. When a movie is ready for TV, it is already in a format that can be burned (h.264). If you ever watch movies on an iPhone, it is the same format, but a better picture because the video is created at larger dimensions and at a higher data rate. The TV is primarily a convenience, because you can pick your movies off a menu. You don't have to get up and change DVDs.

  • I Beta tested 4.0 RC1 and now can not upgrade to 4.0. Error message is need to reboot to complete prior instalation. Have removed all previous versions of Firefox, rebooted and still same error message.

I Beta tested up to and including 4.0 RC1 without major problems. However I can not now upgrade to 4.0. Same error message time and again, "need to reboot to complete prior upgrade instalation". I rebooted several times, then tried first removing all previous versions of Firefox using both MS Add/Remove and then iolo System Mechanic, then again downloading 4.0. Even after rebooting same error message. I can not therefore install/use Firefox.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Doc Project with format confusion- need advice

I have a documentary project with a plethora of footage formats because the doc spans a long length of time and different project collaborators. We just shot more footage and I don't want to move forward converting the new footage until I know the best path to take form here on out. please advise.
    Here is the info.
Below i'm listing the descritption of footage, the format, and the % I'm predicting it will be used in the final edit of the documentary I'm working on.
Archival Footage: DV NTSC 720x480 (10%)
Original footage shot: DV NTSC 720x480 anamorphic (40%)
Additional Footage shot in Summer 2010 with Panasonic HVX200: DVCPRO HD 720p60 29.97 (35% shared with canon 7D footage listed below)
Additional Footage shot in Summer 2010 with Canon 7D: shot 1920x1080 23.98 Apple Pro Res 422, pixel aspect square. I converted this footage to 720p60 29.97 to match the Panasonic footage but I still have the original files saved. (35% shared with hvx200 footage listed above)
New Footage shot with Canon 7D: 1920x1080 23.98 Apple Pro Res 422, pixel aspect square (15%)
    Timelines:
    - I edit the SD footage in timelines with SD sequence settings matching the format of the footage
    - I edit the HD footage in timelines with DVCPRO HD sequence settings matching the format of the footage
    - when footage of both formats ends up in one 'scene' the timeline is DV NTSC 720x480
    - when I output a rough cut, I nested sequences and output DV NTSC 720x480
I have not converted the new footage yet and before I do convert it and then transform continue editing, I feel I need to re-evauluate how I'm approaching the multi-format situation.  I need advice about the best path to take from here on out. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Should I upconvert the SD footage and do everything HD from now on? The final cut will probably be 50% SD and 50% HD with possibly more HD than SD.
If I do upconvert and go HD, is 720p60 29.97 the best format for me to use considering my footage sources? If you have any ideas, please also explain how you might go about carrying them out.
    Thank you!

Exactly, whic is why I'm seeking advice. the final delivery will be film festival screenings and hopefully broadcast, and considering the channels today that = HD.
That's not a final decision at all, that's a series of delivery options. You must produce your project in the highest resolution for which you have space, codecs and techniucal competency. You will save that as the "final" but I'd not call it that since nothing is ever finalized. Jsut keep naming the versions. Then you will open the full rez version and use any of several conversion or compresiona apps to satisfy all other distribution needs.
The omst flexible will be a 1080/60 format but that decision will cost you tons of conversion time, lots of space, and will require many stylistic decisions along the way.
That's what I would do but I'm not you and I'm not your client.

  • Scanning Pictures for HD Project I Need Advice

I am about to *Scan Pictures for HD Project* I Need Advice. The scanner is a HP Scanjet G4050 my questions are:
1: At what resolution do I scan these pictures _+(300 or highest dpi available)+_
2: What color choice is necessary *(RGB vs CMYK)*
3: Can you please suggest points for creating a backdrop for the pictures (various sizes) in the Timeline
    Thanks in advance

Scan the picture like you normally would. If the vertical resolution is 1080, you are fine. Don't worry about the 1280 width as black will be in that area not taken up with the photo. That part won't matter if it isn't 1280 if it is a vertical picture. If you don't have at least 1080 high, you might want to re-scan at a higher resolution. If you have it say, 2000 pixels high really no big deal except you don't need it that high and all that extra size slows down your system. If you want it at a lower resolution after you scan go into Photoshop->Image->Image size. Be sure and check "Constrain Proportions" before you change the dimensions in the top box for the height (where you are best using the units as pixels) That way the picture will stay in proportion. Don't use this second method to 'add' more pixels as the quality suffers when you go up this way. Rescan if you want MORE pixels.
All the above is talking about vertical pictures. If you have a really wide photo that is not very tall, use the same principle but keep the width constant. For example let's say you have a 2x6 inch photo. Make sure the width is at least 1280 pixels. Don't worry that the height will be less than 1080 because black will take up that space.
If you are going to do any zoom in and/or panning across a picture, you'll need to make sure it has more than the minimum pixels. For me a little goes a long way, so I zoom in slowly maybe 10-15%.

  • Newbie needs advice on starting a project

Hi all.. New to DVD Pro, need the wisdom of experienced users before I waste a whole lot of time....
I've got a show mixed (2 cameras, multitracked audio mixed in logic express and synch'd) and rendered from final cut express to a self-contained QT movie, 16 GB, runs maybe 90 minutes, with a dozen or so chapters representing different scenes.
The intended product is a DVD for friends, families, actors, and support for grant writing to philanthropic organizations (it's a small grant-budgeted theater of disabled adults). The DVD should, of course "play all" and each segment.
I plan to have a main menu to choose "play all, scenes 1-6, scenes 6-12", not sure if I'll need 2 or 3 submenus....
    Here is the question.....
Shall I import as an asset just the whole show (which I think is what I should do), or should I break it and render each "chapter marker" from FCE to a separate .mov (the temptation would be that each segment could fade in and out from black, rather than cut in abruptly and end abruptly with a return to a menu). Alternatively, if I used segments with fade-ins and fade-outs, it would lose the continuity of the seamless "whole show" when the view chooses "play all".
That's why I need advice - because I don't know how it's all gonna work, what the options and capabilities are, but I felt like i needed to get beyond iDVD.
So thanks in advance for any words of wisdom!!!!
btw... it will be done on a late-2008 vintage 2.4 GHz core duo macbook pro with 2 GB ram, 250 GB hard drive, osX 10.5.?, dvd studio pro 4
    Thanks again! Peter

    If you want to be able to play just parts of your video as well as a "play all" then what you need are Stories. There is a complete tutorial on setting up stories at;

  • Need advice on on a Mac Pro 1,1 Media Center

I currently have a 2009 Mac Mini running as my home media center, but I recently came by a FREE Mac Pro 1,1 and have decided to repurpose it as my media center so I can migrate my Mac Mini to my bedroom TV where it will live an easy life doing nothing but run Plex Home Theater, Netflix, and EyeTV. This machine falling into my lap was also quite timely because my 4-bay Drobo is running low on available expansion and another Drobo isn't in the budget at the moment.
This vintage mac pro is running Lion 10.7.5, has 1 old and crusty 500GB hardrive, dual x5160 processors, 4GB RAM (one stick i'm pretty sure is toast judging by the red light and the kernel panics), and the standard NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB graphics card. It will be used primarily for the following: network storage for iphoto and itunes libraries, streaming video, Plex Media Server & Plex Home Theater, and Handbrake encoding. I also have a goal of safety of data for my movies, photos and music as this machine will supplement my current Drobo storage.
My plans are for a 128GB SSD boot drive installed in one of the PCIe slots and then to load up all 4 of the 3.5" drive bays with WD Green hard drives. I have also ordered 4GB of replacement RAM, so upon removal of the faulty unit I will have 7GB.
Here is where I need advice because I am not very familiar with RAID and the differences between hardware or software raid. Am I better off getting four drives of the same size and setting them up as RAID 5 (I think) using Apple's RAID utility or should I throw in three 1TB drives and then install a fourth 3TB or 4TB drive as a Time Machine backup for the other three?
Should I upgrade the OSX to the technically unsupported latest version? Or is it not worth the trouble for this application?
Also, is there any benefit to upgrading the graphics card to the ATI Radeon 5770? Would this yield an improved image quality? I am outputting to a Denon AV Reciever and subsequently to a 100" projection screen, if that makes a difference. I also noticed the 5770 has an HDMI port, wich would be nice, but not necessary since I can use a DVI converter and woud still need to use the optical audio out anyway.
    Much obliged for any input

My plans are for a 128GB SSD boot drive installed in one of the PCIe slots and then to load up all 4 of the 3.5" drive bays with WD Green hard drives. I have also ordered 4GB of replacement RAM, so upon removal of the faulty unit I will have 7GB.
PCIe cards that use or support SSD are not bootable until you get to 2008 (and that is limited too).
Green are not suited for any form of array unless say NAS and WD RED.  Better option would be 3 x 2TB WD Blacks in a mirror, and too many people only use two drives, well 3 is much easier safer and works better. Might want to invest in www.SoftRAID.com product even.
Best price and quality, got my 1,1 with 8 x 2GB (ideal is 4 or 8 DIMMs)
    2x2GB FBDIMM DDR2 667MHz @ $25
    http://www.amazon.com/BUFFERED-PC2-5300-FB-DIMM-APPLE-Memory/dp/B002ORUUAC/
With price of 250GB SSD $155 I'd go with that or stick with $89 for 128GB .

  • TOSHIBA Please Read - Beta Testing and Developer Community

    Hello Jim,
I wanted to respond to your posting about the status of the update but the thread has been locked, so I started a new one. Anyway, I was wondering if there was a chance that we could get a beta test version of the software provided to experienced and brave individuals that can report back to the dev team with various issues and bugs to be fixed?
The public beta will not only appease the people angry at Toshiba for missing the deadline for the update, but also provide necessary feedback to the development team that can be used to create a more feature complete update. As an Android developer myself, I would take every oppurtunity to report bugs and issues and even provide code to help implement fixes for various issues if said source is availible. I believe it would be a great idea for Toshiba to create an open source development community on these forums and to provide us with bleeding edge code for us to implement and mess around with.
Such communities already exist on various sites like XDA Developers but not with vendor support, if Toshiba provided a vendor-supported developer community around the Thrive and other Android devices such as the Excite and Folio. With a vendor supported community, we would have a place where Toshiba can make better software for the devices and developers and brave regular users can participate in the process of getting updates for our various devices. I believe that moving away from such a closed development environment would not only help Toshiba develop better devices and software, but also give the company a leg up on its competitors who do not have such a community pitching in allowing for better software to be coded.
I hope that this message is read by someone at Toshiba that can make this happen, as the benefits are truly mutual, since Toshiba would be getting better software for its devices and developers get the resources and code needed to turn Toshiba into one of the best supporters of this great open-source project.
If anyone from Toshiba would like to contact me to help coordinate such an undertaking, I may be reached at [email protected]
    Thank You For Your Time,
    Rob Gries
    Android Developer

    Hi Rob,
Thanks for the thoughtful message. Your points are well made and, while I don't disagree that there are mutual benefits, Toshiba has no current plans for directly building or supporting a developer community.
On the other hand, private beta testing for the Thrive product line was first launched last summer and I expect it to be ongoing as major software updates reach reasonably usable states within the development process. However, you won't see discussion of beta testing in the message boards because beta testers are under NDA.
Thanks again for the thoughts and for your interest in developing for Thrive!
    Jim

  • Getting a runtime error when running the test project

I was running a test project which did execute without any problems. Then I added 2 extra DLLs and wrote some code as well. After that I got the below specified run time error. Though I removed those DLLs and new code still it doesn't run. This was running

    @Mayooran99,
I agree with Andy. By the way, when you build a new test project and if you want to add dll to your project, please make sure you will follow this article:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wkze6zky.aspx
When you use Add reference dialog please don't forget to set copy local to true.(By default I think new project will not have this problem, the reason may like Andy mentioned that you still have some references to those two dlls when you removed them)Best
    regards,

  • I have the Verizon iPhone in hand! - need advice

I'm not going to lie. I'm not an Apple guy, in fact I've always been a diehard msft person. Until I had the opportunity to beta test the iPhone for Verizon (i've had it a few days now). I'm in love - already planning on getting an iPad to complement it.
First things first, where I as a recent convert need your advice:
    1. What's the best protective iPhone case?
    2. What other "must have" accessories to the iPhone would experienced users highly recommend?
    3. What are "must have" apps? I've got fb and tw so far. What do you guys use the most?
I understand I could probably answer these questions from searching through the forum for a bit, however with the flood of verizon users surely to come, this post may prove to be a good starting point for all newbie's like myself.
    Hubie

Shazam apparently now only allows you to "tag" 5 songs per month in the free version. Try SoundHound instead, which is free and works quite well in my testing. It has not failed to identify one song, no matter how obscure or poorly-sung (or even hummed!), in my limited testing since I got my phone yesterday.
BTW, Hubie, welcome to the Apple world!

  • Need advice in carrer in Java path

    Hi,
I am in and out Java Ptrogrammer.
I am in Software industry for round about 5 years.
I started with Web Desgining in HTML, Java Scripts and CSS.
After that I joined a Multinational Company and got into SAP ABAP Team.
I worked in 2 ABAP Projects and then moved to Production Support in Dec 06.
I cleared SCJP 5.0 in Sep 06. At that time my core Java Skills were very good.
But then in Production Support, I worked in HR Application Support. I supprted
4 applications, the main Application was based on Java Swing.
Even if the application were based in Java Swing, Servlets, JSP etc, we didnot need to do
any coding in Java Side. Our work was in the backend. We has to retrieve data from back-end tables
usually through Select queries (Joins) and sometimes we need to write Store Procedures involving
updation of data. Our work also involved writting Shell Scripting. The Database used was Oracle/Sybase.
My project tenure ended in Sep 2007. I then was assigned with Unit Testing (JUnit and Ant) for 6 months
and then QTP Automated Testing Project. After that, I was assigned to SAP NetWeaver Team in SAP Master Data Management. I worked in SAP MDM 5.5 for 6 months August 2008 to Jan 2009 and also appeared in SAP MDM 5.5 Certification in Nov 08. I got 53% and the pass percentage is 55%. Now, I am in Java Project involving
EJB 2.0, Java Web Dynpro and Oracle Database. It is an Event Management System. It also involves DAO Design Pattern.
Now, I am involved in Testing the full application. I need to switch back to Java based development.
What should be the approach? Should I clear SCBCB right now or go for SCJP 6.0?
Or I will again give SCJP 5.0?
I need to built a Java Skill set. It is told that you can't learn if you are not in projects. But it is not true with Java J2EE. You can learn it from Net as many free lancing sites are there. Please advice.
    Regards
    Taton

I suggest not taking any more certifications (for now). Your main concern should be extending your development skills in those areas you are lacking. I suggest reading a book on EJB 2.0, and reading up on event management and DAO on-line. Also, set up whatever development environment they have (example: Eclipse IDE) and get familiar with it.
For your own long-term career development, I suggest re-writing your resume and having many people review it. Revise it over and over as they point out problems. Have them quiz you on items in your resume (and that aren't in your resume) so you can gain experience on interviewing and answering questions verbally well. I think you have a lot more experience than you realize. Your post seems to me to indicate you don't have confidence to sell yourself in an interview and haven't organized your thoughts to present your argument well yet. Most people don't. Its a skill you have to develop.

  • Need Advice: Re-Ripping ALL of my CDs using ALAC/Apple Lossless

I need advice from some experienced users (having searched for answers for a couple of days and not finding a comprehensive solution).  I want to "upgrade" my iTunes library (95% of which is from my CD collection) from ACC (the default iTunes file format) to ALAC (lossless format). I realize that music purchased from the iTunes store will remain in ACC format, but I am using this opportunity to "archive" or "digitize" my CD collection.  I have some, but not a lot, of non-critical tags, album art, etc. set up with my current library.  I will be saving all of the music files in a new folder on a single hard disc on my network (with backup).  I use iTunes Match.  I have Windows PCs, Macbook Pro (OSX), iPhone, iPad, iPod.  Given these factors, I am seeking recommendations:
Does it make sense to "start over" and create a brand new iTunes library?
(this would certainly give me time to complete my project while still using my current iTunes library)
If yes, what do I need to do in order to "activate" the new library once it is complete in order to reset iTunes Match and all of the other devices using my iTunes library?  What complications can I anticipate?
If no, what is the best way to replace the existing albums in my iTunes library with the new ALAC files?  Do I simply insert the CD and import it with my new settings?  Will iTunes take care of the rest (saving the new file, deleting the old format, matching tags, etc.)?  What complications can I anticipate?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of allowing iTunes to "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library?"
Any other suggestions, warning, smart alec remarks?
I know there are a lot of questions bound up in this post, but if you have converted your iTunes music collection to one of the lossless or uncompressed formats, I would love to learn from your experience (and am guessing others will as well).  Thanks!

In most cases you should be able to re-import your CDs to the existing library - iTunes will automatically replace your media files and retain all previously added metadata.  This does depend on the library being the same one as you originally imported the CDs in AAC format (i.e., the same computer or the result of a complete library migration).  You should experiment with a couple of CDs to verify this behavior - I've done this successfully to "update" some of the older content of my library which had been imported as 128kbps AAC to 256kbps..
Obviously this approach will put your media into the existing library media folders, which is going to be the simplest approach.  If you subsequently want to move the library to a different drive, see turingtest2's user tip on Make a split library portable.  If you're concerned about running out of disc space on the drive that currently hosts your library, you could follow these guidelines to move the library to a second, larger drive before starting to re-import using ALAC.
This is the approach I'd recommend, though there are a couple of other possibilities:
Create a new, empty library on the second drive by holding down SHIFT as you start iTunes; when you see this prompt:
click on Create Library..., navigate to the second drive and create the library there (best approach is to create this in a new iTunes folder in the root of the drive.  This will guarantee "clean" imports but you'll not be able to re-use any metadata, artwork, playlists, etc. contained in your current library.  To switch between libraries, SHIFT-start and use the Choose Library... option to select the library you want to be active.
On the second drive, create a folder called iTunes in the root and a folder called iTunes Media inside this.  Then, with iTunes running against your current library, select Edit > Preferences > Advanced, change the iTunes Media folder location to the one you've just created (i.e., X:\iTunes\iTunes Media, if the second drive is "X:".  Also make sure that the Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder... options are checked.  When you re-import your CDs the media files should be placed on the second drive ... note, though, that I've not verified that this approach will work - in theory it should do but you should definitely test with one or two CDs before going any further.  This approach will result in a "split" library where your library database is on the C: drive and the media divided between drives (since your iTunes Store purchases will still be on C:).  This is generally not a good idea (if for no other reason than making creation and maintenance of a backup of your library more difficult).  Again, tt2's notes on Make a split library portable describe how to bring the library into a consistent, well-formed layout.

You know, it might have been cool to spam us with your project here if it were something cool for Java developers. Just because it's written in Java doesn't mean I want to see it here on a forum intended for Java developers. And I don't think Sun wants to run a de-facto bug tracker for n-type here on this forum.
I can understand your excitement in your project coming to fruition, but Sourceforge has more than the needed resources for you. Try emailing this guy. Try posting on Freshmeat. We're not your marketing department or your focus group, though.
    Good luck with your project.
