  • Solaris exam form (Oracle Solaris 10 System Administrator Certified Professional Exam)

    Hello,
    In comming days I'm going to try above Solaris 10 exam. Have some questions regarding form of exam (I couldn't find it on Oracle website):
    1. Is it multiple choice test with indication in each question how many answers are correct?
    2. Is it possible to switch questions during exam and get back later to ones which I'm not sure?
    3. Are the results given just after or later
    regards

    As you see in the section header there's word Network Printers. However in description below there's nothing about printers. There some more examples. Should I also be prepared for questions about printers?
    thanks in advance!

    In the days of the Sun when even an ultrasparc 2 could run solaris 10 and some brainless clot still allowed access to the obp updates there were exams cx-310-201 and cx-310-202.
    In fact yours truly got 100% for his "manage network printers and systems processes" despite in practice my setup for printers in Glasgow coming out in Galashields.  In some ways I was quite good at printers.
    Then around the exam had a update for S10u5 when the old ZFS and zones etc started to get really going.
    ( I completed the cx-310-202 under that update).
    Refering to Calkins ISBN-13: 978-0-7897-3790-8 for the section he considers as "Managing System processes" there is no mention of printers.
    HOWEVER there was a whole section on managing the lp printer service in that book in the very next chapter!
    But we are talking history here .... and the exam may have been through further updates ... indeed the current exam is validated against s10u11 (which is about 2/3 years old I would guess without looking it up).
    So printing may well have been dropped.  Any other topics may have had to be tweaked.
    It's obviously best you know about printing ..... but quite frankly its somewhat rate nowadays.  It can also be a but of a minefield as its been through changes with the releases.  It's quite possible it's dropped from the exam altogether.
    You have 2 reasonable choices:-
    - Study all you can about printers at s10u11.  (Go over what the online documentation says for s10u11).  I'm sure some of this stuff changed throughout the life of Solaris 10.  It shouldn't be more than one or two questions so don't spend too much time on it.
    - Raise an SR at  Oracle University - Support Form   ... Question the discrepancy on the title versus the underlying topics.  ( .. there isn't a category for this .... exam results/score report might be best) questioning the discrepancy in the topics.  Put the SR number back on this thread as if Brandye is happening to pass she might pick it up).
    ... I can't be sure of anything I have said here.  I may end up confusing rather than helping over Matthew's earlier reply.

  • Beta Testing Ends For "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning" Exam

    !http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2009-0204-1122.gif!
    <p>The beta period ended on Aug 31, 2009 for the <strong>Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning</strong> certification exam (1Z1-054), which is a single exam requirement for Oracle 11g DBA OCPs to earn the Oracle Database 11g Performance Tuning Certified Expert (OCE) certification.</p>
    <p align="justify">Full details are posted on the Oracle Certification Blog.</p>

    Hello Hussein
    Yes true, I remember it for the OCE and Linux exams they rescheduled the end date several times. As far as I know it is related to the number of participants and the given feedback.
    I've also participated to several other exams, and I must admit that it is a long and hard process to get through. When I got the feedback 10 weeks after the beta period closure, I had to review nearly all the topics to get the exams passed the second time. But this it is a cheap and good exam preparation.
    What about you Hussein? Do you think that's trivial?

  • Pro*C on Oracle Linux and 11g R2

    Hello everyone
    I am unable to find Oracle documentation on how to use make and compile and link ProC programs on Oracle Linux and Oracle 11g R2*
    The Pro*C manuals for 11g R2 refer me to the "operating system specific manuals" for compiling and linking and make instructions but I can not find such manuals anywhere.
    I looked here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e10825/toc.htm
    Can anyone point me to the documentation on how to compile/link/precompile/make-utility Pro*C programs on Oracle/RedHat Linux, please?
    Many thanks!

    Honestly having used pro*c for years ( not lately ) the windows install
    was always marginal... try the linux version much better and you don't
    have to taylor you *.cfg files like previous versions... it work right out
    of the box... the install doc stated you might have to update your
    C++ libraries...

  • 32 Bit Installation or Oracle Linux and Oracle Database 10g

    I have an old E-Machine that I wanted to put Oracle Linux and Oracle Database Express 11G on. I was just wanting to do some testing and development on the system. I'm pretty sure the machine is 32bit.
    I just burned a copy of 32 bit Oracle Linux onto a CD. Is there a version of Oracle Database Express that will run on it?
    It seems like there is only a 64 bit version of Oracle Express Database 11g. Is Oracle Database Express 10g installable on Oracle Linux 32 bit?
    Let me know! Thanks in an advance.

    One (or two) caveats with the 10g version, XE can not be patched and the 10.2.0.1 XEs were created before the current daylight savings time rules went into effect.
    If you have access to My Oracle Support there is a method to get updated timezone files for the oracle binaries, you need at least version 4 of the DST files. I've got the MOS docIDs somewhere let us know if needed and I'll dig 'em up.

  • Differences between Oracle Linux and CentOS

    Dear ALL
    I need differences between Oracle Linux and Cent OS, which is the better OS to install Oracle11gR2.
    Kindly send me the benefits and percentage if anybody can...
    Thanks.

    11gR2 is not certified to be installed on CentOS, so from that perspective alone, OEL is the only choice.

  • Creating A New Oracle Database And Sql Developer

    Hi,
    I'm a newbie to Oracle and and a not so newbie to Sql Server and Visual Studio.
    I am trying to learn Oracle on my local machine. I want to create a new Oracle Database and start learning from there.
    I have downloaded sql developer, the data modeler, and the Oracle Client. Could someone please provide some guidance on how to create a Oracle Database?
    From the responses, it appears that none of the items I mentioned actually creates a database. Sql Server provides a free download, also a developer version for a minimal fee. What specific Oracle product would be best to provide this type of service?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Edited by: user8948230 on Jan 7, 2010 9:50 AMIn addition to downloading and installing the database software to create a database, might I also suggest you start getting familiar with the documentation.
    Learning where to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to tahiti.oracle.com. Drill down to your product and version.
    Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
    Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
    Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there.
    Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
    Do the same with the Utilities manual.
    You don't have to read the above in depth. They are reference manuals. Just get familiar with what is there to be referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
    After you have familiarized yourself with what is available, read the "2-Day DBA" manual to help get you started.
    Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Look in your alert log and find all the non-default initialization parms listed at instance startup. Then read up on each one of them in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.

  • Road map for HRMS consultant for new oracle guy, please help

    road map for Oracle HRMS consultant for new oracle guy, please help

    Hi,
    If you go through the Oracle sites you will come to know that HRMS Suite has various modules like Core HR, SSHR, Performance Management, Learning Management, iRecruitment, Compensation workbench, Absence Management, Payroll, Advanced Benefits etc.
    You will have to start with understanding the Core HR concepts which is the base of the entire HRMS suite where you define the core structures like Organizations, Job, Position, Grade, Costing, Hierarchies, Employee data etc and which forms the base of the other modules.
    Post you are done with Core HR you can start understanding the Self Service functionality and Approval Management Engine.
    If you are clear with these two modules, then you can pick any other module as per your Job requirement demands.
    You can do this all if you have an instance to access where you can do hands-on. In absence of which learning will be not be easy. On apps2fusion site which I have already mentioned you can view the training calendar and check for any relevant courses if you want to under go training as the quality of training is very good.
    Training is not a mandate and you can learn it without training also if you have the dedication and time by understand each and every action which you are performing in application and the impact of it.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,
    Sanjay

  • Oracle Linux and Java 7u10

    Hi all,
    I installed Oracle Linux Server 6.3 selecting "software Development System" (java 1.6.0 comes with it).
    but I need to use Java 1.7
    So I downloaded jdk-7u10-linux-x64.rpm
    when I try to install it, I get the following error.
    Unpacking JAR files...
         rt.jar...
    Error: Could not open input file: /usr/java/jre1.7.0_10/lib/rt.pack
         jsse.jar...
    Error: Could not open input file: /usr/java/jre1.7.0_10/lib/jsse.pack
         charsets.jar...
    Error: Could not open input file: /usr/java/jre1.7.0_10/lib/charsets.pack
         localedata.jar...
    Error: Could not open input file: /usr/java/jre1.7.0_10/lib/ext/localedata.pack
    I can't uninstall java 1.6 because other rpm uses it.
    Can someone tell me what the "proper" way to install Oracle Linux and Java 1.7 should be?
    OR is there a Oracle Linux Server 6.4 coming out soon with Java 1.7 as its default package set ;-)
    thanks in advance,
    c.w.

    You can ignore the errors. The files named in the error lines do not exist in the rpm package, but are there as .jar files
    The following works under Oracle Linux 6.3 x86_64 (and probably other versions).
    1. Open the following URL in a web browser on your PC:
    <pre>
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
    </pre>
    2. Click the JDK download button, accept the license agreement and download the JDE rpm package.
    3. Copy the following file to your Oracle Linux server (SFTP):
    <pre>
    jdk-7u10-linux-x64.rpm
    </pre>
    4. Login as root and use the YUM utility to install the RPM package.
    <pre>
    # yum install ./jdk-7u10-linux-x64.rpm
    </pre>
    5. Register the new installed java version, then change your default Java:
    <pre>
    # alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /usr/java/jdk1.7.0_10/bin/java 2
    # alternatives --config java
    </pre>
    Display your default Java version:
    <pre>
    # java -version
    java version "1.7.0_10"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_10-b18)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.6-b04, mixed mode)
    </pre>
