Betacam SP recorder/player

I'm looking to buy a Betacam SP player/recorder, but I need one that includes a firewire port so that I can capture/record video from/to my Mac Pro. Can anyone recommend one that might be priced under or around $5,000? I have searched online for one but am not having much luck. Also, is there anything I need to know about the machine that might make it tricky to work with FCP? I appreciate any info anyone has to offer, as I have no experience with this type of equiptment.

We don't have a choice in the tape format...our hosts
do satellite interviews over the phone, and the
company sends us the recorded video of the celebrity
that they interviewed on Betacam tapes...they do not
offer us a choice, and believe me, I have asked.
If the company sending you the tapes is nearby you could record their feed to your equipment, or get the sattelite info and bring the feed in yourself at a local TV station and tape to your format. If it's up on sattelite, it's obtainable to anyone with the coordinates. Is that a possibility for you?

I have a record player hooked up to a preamp which is hooked up through the audio port. The sound settings are set to have the audio port be "input".  The input volume is registering high with fluxuations in the sound settings, but there is no output anywhere.  Do I need some sort of third party application or widget to hear the record i'm playing through the speakers that are hooked up to my computer?

    keithstopher,
You may want to check into a USB interface, as I believe you have a Mac with the single audio port, which can be used as input OR output.
You may want to check into something like the following, there are may out there, see what fits your needs best.

  • Recording from Record Player to Air

I would like to record my records(vinyl) to my Macbook Air - iTunes.
The record player is not a USB type device that they have these days.  The record player does have a built in pre-amp.  How do I do this through the MacBook Air?
    Thanks for your help!

  • IBook G4 connecting to a record player....?

Can you recommend what component(s) I should buy to connect my record player to my iBook G4 so I can burn them to a CD? I'm assuming that I can use iTunes program......?
    Thanks.

You'll need two things. First is a USB audio input devise such as an iMic. Next, you'll need some type of audio recorder such as Audacity.

  • I burned an edited movie to disc using H.264 codec and a second movie to MPEG -4 Video both worked well on my iMac but will not play on my Sony DVD Recorder/Player which accepts both DVD RW and DVD-RW.  Any suggestions?

I burned an edited movie to disc using H.264 codec and a second movie using MPEG-4 Video.  Both played well on my iMac but would not play on my Sony DVD Recorder/Player which accepts both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs.  I have tried other 'codecs' DV-PAL; DVCPRO-PAL; DVCPRO50-PAL; AIC; and finally share to iDVD.  iDVD works on both my iMac and DVD Recorder but the picture is very poor with major shimmering which is unwatchable.  Can anyone assist? The other codecs I used either do not pay on my video recorder or fail when I play them back on my iMac.  I am at a loss as to what I can do.  I am from the UK so using PAL is essential.

If the source video is interlaced, you may have problems using iMovie. It de-interlaces everything on output which can cause picture to look strange.  Final Cut Pro X supports interlaced video, but it costs a lot more.
Standard DVD Players don't support H.264 or MPEG4.  You might want to look at this article on transferring HD video to DVD.  I wrote this article mainly for Final Cut Pro, but many of the same principles apply.

  • Copying DVD created w/DVD recordable player

I am trying to edit a DVD that was created in a DVD recordable player. It plays fine on my eMac's DVD player, but when I try to open it in Quicktime Pro, or MPEG Streamline clip I get nothing.
I want to be able to move it over to iMovie HD and edit it to iDVD. I have OS X 10.3.9. Is anything made in a DVD recordable player automatically copywrite protected?
    Thanks for any help.
    Gene

MTR is just a "copy protection eraser"... not needed in this issue....
    my workflow with Streamclip is..:
    * drag'n drop the content of the dvd into some folder of my harddrive
    * open THAT local copy...
    * then Apple-F (correct timecode errors)...
    * usually, I just need parts of a recording, so setting in-/outpoints...
    * export as dv-stream, (alt-Apple-E) ...
    ... works like charm here...

  • External record player connected to audio in microphone jack

I have a hp Pavilion dv6-6135dx laptop. I have my record player connected to a phono preamplifier, which is then connected to my laptop through the audio in microphone jack. The preamp is new, has a new battery, and the rca cables i am using are all new. When i hooked up the record player earlier today it worked fine and I was getting sound out of my computer.(which is what i am trying to do, play my record player through my computer). About an hour or two later I am getting no sound from the record player through my computer. I did mess with the beats audio settings but that is it. I have been tampering and playing with the sound setting from the control panel and still I am getting no sound. I even restored my computer and enabled the mic jack and I still am getting no sound. I am really frustrated and I dont know what to do, but I am for certain that it is a computer issue and not something else.

    i,
Mic in is not a line in. Line in will usually be stereo and about 10Kohm impedance. Normally mic in is mono and about 600-1Kohm impedance therefore lower levels than the line. You can use mic in for line in but you may get lower quality of output specially you may only get mono.

  • Best way to build an web-based voice record player

Could anyone please guide me on what technology to use to
build a online voice recorded that would record a users voice using
a flash player from a website and then the voice is saved on the
server side. What would be the best way to build something like
    that.
    Thanks,

Use Flash or Flex for the client side, and Flash Media

  • Inquiries: Creating mp3 recorder/player using Java

    Dear Gurus & Members,
I am very new in Java. I wonder if it is possible to use Java to create a small application/plugin on my e-learning website that will record user's audio through microphone, save as .mp3 on the user's pc and enable user to playback the mp3s when they select. If yes, what do I need and how can i do?
My website is created using mostly Macromedia Flash. Can Java be incorporated with Flash? How can i call this java plugin from the Flash-created button on my site?
Is there any freeware that has built such application? Any suggestions and ideas are highly appreciated. Hope to hear some replies soon and have a pleasant day.
    Thanks in advance,
    Janice

If you are doing it on Windows, JMF can use the DirectX stuff to play anything that is supported by Windows Media Player. But cross platform-ness goes out the window. Of course, you could write your own JMF codecs for any format under the sun if you know how.

  • Multi-touch Recorder/Player

I have an ArrayCollection that contains x and y values for the path of an object.( a "recording" of each step in the path generated by touchpoints during touchMove of an object). In short, I need a multi-touch recorder/playback.  I have the "recording" working and saving to the database.  Now, I need to animate the playback.  I want the user to be able to hit a play button and see all the objects animate along their previously recorded paths.
How do I do this?  Do I use motionpath/keyframes?  If so, how do I generate the motionpath and keyframes dynamically from the ArrayCollection?
The only examples I see about keyframes/motionpath are static hardcoded keyframes in mxml.  In my case, there can be many keyframes along the path and the number will vary.  And the number of objects in the ArrayCollection will vary as well.  (users touches screen with 4 fingers at same time and moves them).  My initial thought is looping through the ArrayCollection, create the keyframes, then play the animation.  But I don't know how to write the AS3 and there may be a better way?
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Don

With help from Claudia and Chet, I think I'm getting close.  But, I get this error
Error: Property x is not a property or a style on object X105292: TypeError: Error #1006: value is not a function..at spark.effects.supportClasses::AnimateInstance/setupStyleMapEntry()[E:\dev\hero_private_be ta\frameworks\projects\spark\src\spark\effects\supportClasses\AnimateInstance.as:1097]
when running this animatePlay function.  I've verified that my target does have a x property. All of the target Xs and Os are on the screen in the correct locations with the correct x,y initial locations.  I'm guessing it has something to do with the looping, but I don't know what is causing this error?
In the code below touchTargetsDP is an ArrayCollection that stores the saved targets (all the Xs and Os on the screen before the play starts). I loop through each target to populate the keyframes for each target in the inner loop. The keyframes for each target are stored in touchPathDP. All the keyframes and motion paths appear to be populating just fine, but when the the animation starts to play, I get the error.
In theory, there should be instances of motionpaths/keyframes for each target, and each instance of animate should play for each target until all the Xs and Os targets move to their final x,y location.
This is using Hero in Flex Mobile project.
Anyone see anything in this code that might cause the error?  It is really hard to debug since the error is inside the spark AnimateInstance.as.
    Thanks,

  • HELP PLS: recreating old Roland synth via a sample recorder/player

Attempting to generate a 'Virtual Synth' Bringing the CM-64 (2 kinds of MT-32 together) back from the dead by recording every sound, every bank....
Please see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7963209#7963209 - and see if you can help - quiete a few of us might benefit.
    Thanks to all

Resampling hundreds of sounds from an old cheap sound module, just to make your MIDI files playback exactly the same seems a lot of work (and disk space), especially considering most of those sounds are poor by today's standards anyway. And you'd need to have access to the module to sample it anyway.
Each sound has to be considered individually, and multisampled across the keyboard, and potentially acorss the dynamics too if the sounds vary significantly with velocity. And then you have to consider what the performance stuff does as well (mod wheel, aftertouch etc).
So, I would either load the midifiles and reassign with newer, better sounds (so the songs will sound better too), or pick up a CM64 module (or MT-32 + U110, because that's what the CM-64 is) for peanuts on ebay to get the exact same sounds.
Even autosampling the entire module won't get you exactly the same sounds, because samples are only a static snapshot of a sound - you'd have to do a lot of multisampling, and instrument building afterwards. Even if you bought tools to help this process, you've already spent more money than picking up the module costs, and still have days of painstaking work ahead of you.
Use new sounds, or buy and use a secondhand module, is my advice. They are cheap as chips (and cheap sounding too.)

  • Record player to final cut?

Can you take one of those usb turntables and transfer a record into final cut or do you have to do that through GarageBand and how does that work does anyone know.
    Thanks

    Hi Bill,
Most USB turntables come with software so it's pretty painless, they usually convert to MP3 so once you get the songs onto your computer you can convert to AIF (using i tunes) ready for FCP.

  • IPOD sounds like it's being played under water on a very old record player!

I've had no end of technology problems lately. I transfered all of my mp3s and IPOD info to my new external hard drive. Which I can no longer access. I downloaded iTunes to my C drive again and plugged in my IPOD. It was not recognized by Windows or iTunes. I was forced to unplug it while it still read "do not unplug" or whatever the warning message is. Two nights later (last night), I tried again and was able to get it registered to my laptop and new version of iTunes.
I was all excited and downloaded a bunch of Podcasts, thinking that all was well! But it's not I'm at work trying to listen and my new podcasts and pre-existing music are all garbled! It's not every second of every file, but it's a majority of it. The files sound "scratchy" and like you're hearing it from under water - kinda muffled and "bubbly?" I'm not sure if I'm making any sense, but it's freaking me out!
    how do I fix?

Thanks to a Best Buy GeekSquad member, I figured out that my IPOD was fine, but my headphones were toasted!!!
