Better audio performance

Does anyone know of a pci e or external option for getting better audio performance on a consumer level?
I have software; I'm searching for hardware options.
I realize its not an iTunes question, but figured ya'll might have some ideas.
Thanks

A new audio interface won't help.
You should start by getting an external 7200 RPM Firewire drive to put your audio on. That right there will help, especially with higher track counts.
Secondly, get more RAM. 768 of RAM is borderline for Logic. I always recommend at least 1 gig. Go ahead and max out that Powerbook to 2 gig of RAM, if you can.
All that to say, an Intel mac would be a huge improvement over the Powerbook. And if you do go that route, still get an external FW drive for audio, and as much RAM as you can afford.

Will upgrading an Pavilion 9743CL with Vista 32.bit to Windows 7 64-bit result in better audio and video performance?  (Will the image be HDTV-quality?)

No the only thing that might improve is the responsiveness of the system overall. The appearance of the screen (I assume you are talking about how the laptop monitor will look not an external hd-tv) will not be very much if at all different. Its still the same hardware, after all.

  • Mystery audio performance changes and distortion

I listen to a lot of rock, hard rock, and heavy metal on my 80GB Video iPod. In the past two months, I’ve been having problems with distortion and equalization. I do have the latest iTunes and iPod software updates installed and I have re-instaled iTunes and re-initialized the iPod.
Originally, I was using the iPod earbuds and upgraded to vModa Vibes. Most of my music sounded great with an EQ setting of “Dance” with the vModas.
After a while, I started to experience distortion and loss of detail, especially on the left side (crackling). I thought I had damaged the vModa Vibes, so I purchased a pair of Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro Earphones.
The Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro earphones sounded terrible with no highs or midrange detail and way too much low range. They seemed to distort easily and overload in the-mid range if there was a lot guitars playing (drowning the details out). I tried all sorts of EQ settings to no avail. The problems remained, even on treble boost, but I didn't have a problem specific to the left side.
I returned the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro earphones and switched back to the vModa Vibes for a while and finally decided, on the recommendation of a friend, to try the Bose TriPort IE earphones.
The Bose TriPort IE earphones were much better than the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro earphones, but still lacked high frequency and mid-range detail as compared to the vModa Vibes.
While switching back and forth between the vModas and the Bose earphones, the sound performance (or equalization) seemed to change at random, even though I kept the EQ set to off.
At one point, the vModas suddenly had incredible bass, while maintaining the other performance characteristics, with the EQ still set to off. Later, I played the same song again, and the bass was normal (all I did was charge the battery with the Apple USB AC adapter).
I’ve been using the vModas again for about a week now, and every time I listen to the same song, it plays differently, sometimes great, sometimes with extra bass, sometimes muddled and distorted. The same thing happens with Bose TriPort IEs, except they aren’t as clear as the vModas.
The performance issues seem to somewhat track battery charging (i.e. – after I charge the iPod up, audio performance changes and it sometimes improves as the battery drains).
I figure that either there is a hardware problem with the iPod or there is some type of EQ virus going around.
Anyone having similar problems or have a solution??

I went out and bought a 2 GB iPod Nano and loaded some songs onto it.
Everything sounds great with the vModa Vibe earphones so I guess my 80 GB video iPod might have a few twisted transistors.
I'll have to try to clear out the 80 GB video iPod and reinitialize/restore it again to see if it corrects the problem.

  • What are the better load/performance testing tools available for Flex Application with BlazeDS RO?

In my application is designed with Flex3, ActionScript3, BlazeDS Remote Objects.
Just i tried with OPENSTA but i cant do the dynamic parameterization in their generated scripts because the response of the calls is binary values and also we cant get the response using with SCL language.
While testing with OPENSTA with HttpService, i can do the dynamic parameterization and got the response.
can give the information about the below questions
whether we can do dynamic parameterization with OPENSTA for Flex Remote objects?
and  what are the better load/performance tools available for Flex Remote Objects?

Your approach is fine, depending on how many and what type of CFCs you are talking about. If they are "singletons" - that is, only one instance of each CFC is needed to be in memory and can be reused/shared from multiple parts of your application - caching them in the application scope is common.  Just make sure they are thread safe ("var" or local.* all your method variables).
You might consider taking advantage of a dependency injection framework, such as DI/1 (part of the FW/1 MVC framework), ColdSpring, or WireBox (a module of the ColdBox platform that can be used independently).  They have mechanisms for handling and caching singletons.  Then you wouldn't have to go to the application scope to get your CFC instances.

  • DO's & DONT's for a better application performance

I am very new to tuning. What are the sql & pl/sql do's and dont's and best sql & pl/sql practices for a better application performance?
I was told by somebody to check explain plan for tuning db & sql statements. But i am bit confused by seeing the explain and don't know from where i have start and what i have take into consideration from explain plan to improve application preformance?
Can somebody help me in this regard?

    > I am very new to tuning.
Good. Not having to tune means that the code is performing as it should.
And this is THE MOST IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION.
Do not write and design code that needs to be tuned and twisted and modded in order to perform. Write and design code with the core requirements of that code being:
    - performance
    - scalability
    - flexibility
    - maintainability
Good design = good code = good performance
No amount of tuning can turn bad code and a bad design into a well performing and scalable system. Which is why I dislike the concept of "tuning code". Start with a good and solid design. In other words, tune that before the code.
    > What are the sql & pl/sql do's and dont's and best sql & pl/sql practices
    for a better application performance?
The 1st basic rule is actually quite simple.
The "data layer" rule: Maximize SQL. Minimize PL/SQL.
Do not do in PL/SQL what SQL is very capable of doing. Fact. No other language is faster and better than SQL at crunching data in the Oracle RDBMS.
The 2nd basic rule is a logical extension of the 1st.
The "application layer" rule. Maximize PL/SQL. Minimize Java/C++/C#/Delphi/VB/etc.
Do not do in a 3rd party language what PL/SQL is extremely capable of doing. Fact. No 3rd party language is as capable as crunching data in the Oracle RDBMS as PL/SQL.
Stick to these two fundamental rules and your Oracle application will have a solid foundation for being a well performing and very scalable solution.

  • Is there anyone with *better* battery performance on the 3GS?

OK, there are a lot of posts complaining about the 3GS battery life. I'm now curious to find out if there's a bad batch of batteries, or if it's a software issue involving all iPhone 3GS.
My question: is there anyone out there who's getting better battery performance on the 3GS when compared to the 3G, as advertised by Apple?
I understand that there are at least 3 kinds of battery issues showing up in this forum:
    1. abysmal battery life caused by Exchange Push acting up
    2. defective battery
    3. "it seems a little worse than the 3G, something must be wrong"
There's nothing that can be done for categories 1 and 2, and I think it's interesting to talk about case 3.
Could it be that the 3GS battery indicator is simply more linear (and better calibrated) than the one on the 3G? I am one of those people experiencing subjectively worse battery life on my 3GS when compared to the 3G. But then I stopped and asked myself how I actually measure this.
Well, the difference is that the 3G stays at 100% much longer, then starts to go down very quickly. The 3GS, on the other hand, doesn't like staying at 100% and starts going down earlier but slower. But if I let them both drain, the performance at the end of the day will probably seem similar.
I tried to drain my 3GS with some heavy Safari surfing over WiFi and 3G, 30 minutes of 3G calls, using some third party apps, and with a 1-hour Peggle play. Then I finally played some videos, and it went dead after 5 hours of usage and 15 hours of stand by.
Is that the performance that can be expected, or can we hope for more? I never did the same test on the 3G, because I never noticed the battery meter going down like that, but I'm pretty sure it would turn out quite similar.
    What do you think?

Battery performance depends on what you have running on your iPhone.
e.g. If you have Brightness set to high (or full) with Auto Dimming Disabled, Locations Services, Push Notification (set Fetch to Manually), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (ask to join networks enabled too) and 3G all enabled your battery will get used a lot quicker, especially if you use Third Party Apps on top of all these other things.
If however you activate Wi-Fi when you want to use it, or Bluetooth etc as your needs require, battery performance will be better (as in your battery will last longer before requiring a charge). If you are on a low 3G coverage area, why have your iPhone constantly trying to join a 3G network? Switch 3G off and use the conventional carrier (2G) until you return to an area where you know 3G coverage is better.
I know these measures are less convenient than just having everything switched on, but if you want to maximise battery use between charges try activating the features you require when you require them, then disable them when you don't require them instead of having everything switched on permanently.
I have noticed when Push is enabled (3G has to be enabled also), it absolutely canes the battery

  • Audio performance deteriorating over time until Mavericks reinstall

I'm on the latest Mavericks, maxed-out 12-core Mac Pro. I use Steinberg Nuendo as my main audio DAW. It works like a dream... for a while... But after a few weeks it starts slowing down until Nuendo is almost unusable. Larger projects which normally run just fine become unworkable or very sluggish because they just overload the CPU, as if I was working with a 5 year old computer. This issue specifically targets audio performance, whether I use internal audio or my audio interface (UAD Apollo).
I've tried removing/uninstalling all non essential drivers, extensions etc, and reinstalled/updated everything I can't work without to the latest versions. I've tried unplugging everything except 1 monitor, keyboard, mouse and USB authorization sticks. Nothing makes a difference. It's like there's a virus that progressively slows down my system, but I have found no virus on my system, at least via MacKeeper.
Here is my temporary solution: Every few weeks I reinstall Mavericks (right now 10.9.3) via the Apple online recovery system (Command-R on startup). The problem goes away completely and my Mac Pro is blazing fast again... For a few weeks, until audio performance deteriorates and I have to reinstall Mavericks again. Apple tech support originally advised me to reinstall Mavericks on top of itself, and I was really happy the problem was fixed, but I didn't know it would keep sneaking in over and over again.
This is the third time I have to reinstall Mavericks via online Recovery, and I am still baffled as to what could possibly get worse over time in this manner, and also specifically target audio performance! It's like some sort of cache is getting filled-up somewhere and overloading some of the computer's functions over time. Whatever this is, it gets reset during a reinstall.
If anyone has any ideas or hunches, they would be really appreciated!
PS: I've posted the same issue in the "Mac Pro" section to make sure I get the most coverage. I don't expect too many answers since not too many people have the Mac Pro yet and this is a targeted inquiry.

Make sure you got all the parts and pieces.

  • Satellite Pro S500-11C - poor audio performance

    Hi Folks,
I have a Satellite Pro S500-11C which suffers from the poor audio performance mentioned in reviews of the S500-11C (yeah I should have *+listened+* to the reviews and excuse the pun).
This is making it very difficult to use this laptop for audio applications such as music, VOIP and Skype without having to carry about a heaeset of some type.
Has anyone else eperianced this problem and had a solution. Any help from Toshiba??
    Best Regards,
    Andrew

Sorry but what kind of problem do you mean exactly? Is the sound not loud enough or what?
I mean this notebook has standard stereo speakers and not high end harman/kardon speakers inside.
I have Satellite L300 in front of me with same stereo speakers. Sound is OK but not so good as on other laptops with h/K speakers.
By the way: what kind of help do you expect? Some new driver that makes speakers louder maybe?

  • Which is better for performance Azure SQL Database or SQL Server in Azure VM?

    Hi,
We are building an ASP.NET app that will be running on Microsoft Cloud which I think is the new name for Windows Azure. We're expecting this app to have many simultaneous users and want to make sure that we provide excellent performance to end users.
    Here are our main concerns/desires:
Performance is paramount. Fast response times are very very important
We want to have as little to do with platform maintenance as possible e.g. managing OS or SQL Server updates, etc.
We are trying to use "out-of-the-box" standard features.
With that said, which option would give us the best possible database performance: a SQL Server instance running in a VM on Azure or SQL Server Database as a fully managed service?
    Thanks, Sam

    hello,
SQL Database using shared resources on the Microsft data centre. Microsoft balance the resource usage of SQL Database so that no one application continuously dominates any resource. You can try the
    Premium Preview
for Windows Azure SQL Database which offers better performance by guaranteeing a fixed amount of dedicated resources for a database.
If you using SQL Server instance running in a VM, you control the operating system and database configuration. And the
performance of the database depends on many factors such as the size of a virtual machine, and the configuration of the data disks.

  • How to get better graphic performance on my Satellite C850?

    Hi.
I have a problem with my *Toshiba Satellite C850-B253* and The problem is of graphic,in my PC when i run "**PES 2013**" the game warned to me even my *GPU* is not minimum and is very low to open this program.
Please give me a issue that the game and my computer work better of past.
    Thank you

    Listen dude
You bought this notebook Satellite C850-B253 which is equipped with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 with shared memory (memory amount : up to 1,696 MB shared memory with 4 GB system memory installed (with pre-installed 64-bit operating system)
Dont expect too much from this internal graphic chip.
Your game is new and requires great GPU performance. If you are a gamer, you should purchase a notebook with an external GPU like ATI or nVidia.

  • Which is better from performance point of view : Enum or String?

    Hello All
While working to re-factor code so as to improve performance,I saw that repeatedly some Strings are used to be put as keys in a HashMap.
Will there be an improvement in performance if I assign use enums in place of using double quoted strings everytime.
Also,Is it a better idea to use string constants rather than enums.
Can anyone help me over this?
    Thanks in advance
    Mansi

Found an article in Java performance tuning book. But they nowhere mentioned the perfect reason for doing this. Here's the artice :
    Enumerating constants
Another canonicalization technique often used is replacing constant objects with integers. For example, rather than use the strings "female" and "male", you should use a constant defined in an interface:
    public interface GENDER
    public static final int FEMALE=1;
    public static final int MALE=2;
Used consistently, this enumeration can provide both speed and memory advantages. The enumeration requires less memory than the equivalent strings and makes network transfers faster. Comparisons are faster too, as the identity comparison can be used instead of the equality comparison. For example, you can use:
    this.gender == FEMALE;
    instead of:
    this.gender.equals("female");

  • File Or Proxy Which is better in Performance?

    Hi Friends,
In one scenario we are sending data from R/3 to legacy System.. The amount of Data Could be around 2000 records(Each record having just 5 fields).. For retreiving data from R/3  we are thing of going for Proxy... At the same time we are thinking of useing File adapter for reading data from R/3.we will write that data to a file and then transfer   .... My doubt is which is the better way to do it...And in which type of scenarios using File for Reading R/3 data is suggested....
    Regards,
    Shyam M.

Yes the Proxy will be direct communication with integration server.
But with file you need to have the File adapter to conver it to XML format before reaching upto Integration server. While dealing with high volume of data this will affect lot on the performance.
Actually above 80MB there might be problems with memory on your abap stack.
Upgrade the configuration of Integration Engine.
Here you need to increase the Memory size as well as paging and heap size. It will allow you to have max utilization of memory for such vloume of data.
    Thanks
