Better deal? 1.83ghz C2D or 2ghz CD

I have the choice between these two models:
Refurbished MacBook 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo $899
w/ superdrive (though I will probably rarely burn dvds)
Refurbished MacBook 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo $949
w/o superdrive
All other specs are the same. Is it better to have the core 2 duo with less processing speed or vice versa? Which is the better deal?

That would be a good question, how much faster is the 1.8ghz CD2 than the 2.0 CD. There isn't much difference in the speed (1.8 vs 2.0) - but the difference lies in the architecture of the chips. The 1.8 CD2 might be just as fast, if not slightly faster than the 2.0 CD because of the architecture.
The other thing to know is, the CD2's have the ability to upgrade to 802.11n if you buy the Airport Express Base Station. The CD's are not able to do this.
Hope this helps.

  • New Customer: What is better deal, 3g or 3gs?

    Hey everyone,
I'm a new customer and am planning on getting an iphone. Since majority of you have experience with both phones, I was hoping you could shed some light on what deal you think is best.
For $199, I would love to get the 16g 3gs because it has everything i could possibly need and more, but i am concerned there are a few major quirks that need to be worked out since it is apple's newest phone. My biggest concerns are the signal strength, scratchable screen, battery life, and internet download speeds.
For $99, the 8g 3g is still probably enough, but i would not have the peace of mind knowing i have the latest and greatest. On the otherhand, I would not have to worry about all the concerns I'd have with the 3gs because the 3g has been around for a while and im sure all its problems have been worked out.
What do you guys think, is the 3gs the better deal and should I be concerned about what I mentioned above?
    Thanks

    iPhone 3GS FTW!
Specs that you should know why 3GS >>> 3G

    3GS: 256 MB

    3GS: Integrated voice recognition system.

  • What's the better deal? - same price, different specs

I've got a tough choice between two good Macbook pros at the same price. Which do you think will perform better? Which is the best overall deal? Why?
The most computer intensive things I do will be basic movie editing, 3d modeling with CAD, maybe gaming. So I guess graphics are pretty important.

the 2.3GHz Quad Core will be faster than the 2.4GHz Quad Core because of the system bus of 1600MHz....
with the 1600MHz system bus and faster 1600MHz RAM, this will be a better deal for you.
in any event, either macbook pro will be fine with what you'll be using it for....
although the 2.4GHz might seem faster because of the speed of the processor, do keep in mind that the 2.3GHz is running on the new ivy bridge processor/chipset..
you will be however, happy with either one....
or you can buy one and if you're not happy with it, you have a 14 day return/exchange policy and replace with the other one...
    good luck in deciding...

  • I was on a promotion from online but was called with a better deal that just bit me... why is this?

I was on a promotion and was not happy but OK with the service.I was also to get a $250 gift card but a month later, I get a call from customer service stating they have a better deal. The rep stated I would be paying less than $100 every month! To confirm I asked the rep multiple times and she stated that it is for every month moving forward.I agreed to this. A month later....I am paying $120+ a month.... I called up today and the rep stated the rep I talked to before noted only 1 month for the price.... Now I have to pay more than I was paying before and I won't get my gift card. Seems like it was planned. And the rep I talked to today can say is you are getting a good deal.... while I am feeling very very cheated.

but the price sky rockets if I do not use any promotion.Only reason I stay with them is because my apartment only carry ATT services.

  • A MacBook Pro is a Better Deal Than A Windows XP Notebook!!!

Well I would just like to share the good news with all of you...
After going onto www.hpshopping.com , I have noticed that a similiar in power Windows XP Professional laptop with the same speciifications costs more than the all new MacBook Pro when the educational discount is used.
A WIndows XP Pro laptop costs about $1999 when powered up to the same specs as the MacBook Pro which costs only $1799, has a better scree, bigger resolution, bigger screen, better camera, better wirelss internet, bluetooth.
SO BUY A MACBOOK PRO TODAY IS YOU ARE A STUDENT! ITS THE BEST DEAL AROUND!
(I cant belive it but finally apple is cheaper than Microsoft!)

What is that old saying "there goes a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing"
Not at aimed at you RobG1, but many others who are obsessed with this price comparison, including a heated debate going on at the MacWorld site.
Apples may or may not be more expensive than a Dell (why is it always Dell? Surely as better brand comparison would be with Sony or Toshiba).
I switched and use a Mac for a variety of reasons, none of which was price. Going into a business meeting and knowing it will work. Never having that embarrasing moment went the machine won't boot up, or won't work with the projector, or the application fails etc etc. Using Keynote or even Powerpoint for mac always looks better on screen than using Powerpoint on a PC. It very often prompts favourable comment.
My powerbook always seems to promote a discussion beyond work leading to a connection with a client that would normally take dinner.
Finally there is something about OSX that makes using a computer easier and more pleasurable. I can't explain it but is there.
Put a "price" on the above then a comparision can be made.
RobG1 I notice from your sig you use XP. If you needed equitable pricing, for whatever reason, to make your switch it is great you now have the ammunition. You should make the switch you will not regret it.
I do not hate Dells, they have done a great job in bringing cheap computers to market. I don't particularly hate Microsoft (I don't like their business practices, nor do I think they make "great" software). But to compare the two systems on the basis of price entirely misses the point.
    regards

  • Original iPhone plus 2.0 better deal than 3G?

After upgrading my software to 2.0 on my original iPhone, my delight with Apple is even greater than before - excellent App Store, great little tweaks to the previous user interface, plus push (well Ok, only half a push now) etc etc. Altogether I now have a great smartphone.
So why do I need 3g? Naturally it will be faster than Edge, but not enough to make a difference to my life - I do most of my web surfing and email on wifi and, if I have to use Edge it works fine overall (I can wait a few more seconds per page - no big deal). And do I really need GPS? I have car navigation software on a Tomtom already and the existing map and location service seems to meet most of my non-driving requirements.
I am sure the 3g is great and would recommend iPhone to all - but I have saved some cash and hassle by not upgrading from original to 3g - thanks to the excellent 2.0. Hopefully there will be further software upgrades later which will also apply to the original iPhone.
Better to wait till next year's model before upgrading the hardware, perhaps? Am I missing something?

I take that as a compliment. Set 'em up, Joe - mine's a whisky mac...

  • How can I get a better deal?

I've just finished a very unhappy conversation with Customer Support--Verizon STILL doesn't bundle data plans for families like other carriers do, I need a new phone (mine is 3 y.o.), but don't want to shell out another $30/month for another data plan, and don't want to get imprisoned in another two-year contract with this company. Terminating contract is now $250. I wish they would stop advertising so much about what a great deal they are, and start coming up with plans that families can use. If they're so great, why do they need to force people to stay with $250 penalties?

If your phone is 3 years old, then there is no ETF on it.  If you want another phone without another $30 data plan, then get another simple feature phone.  If you don't want to extend your contract for another 2 years, then purchase the phone at full retail price.  If you have a $250 ETF, then it is on a different smartphone that was just purchased at a subsidized price  less than 1 year ago, not your 3 year old phone.
An ETF is not a penalty, it is a way to re-coup the cost of that "subsidized" phone discount you got when you purchased your phone at less than 1/2 the actual retail price less than 1 year ago, and when you agreed to a 2 year contract on that phone (you did read your contract, right?).  It is also a practice that every single carrier out there uses.

  • How can I get a better deal for cheaper?

I've been a customer with you for many years, and have to say I thought I was getting a great deal- Until speaking with other people on different providers I'm rather concerned about how much I'm paying for what I'm getting.

    Then vote with your feet.

  • Adobe "Photography Program" The Price is right better deal  then old PS Standard + Upgrades..

    Photoshop CC
    Lightroom 5
    20 GB of online storage
    Behance ProSite

To be clear, $9.99 is not an introductory price. It is the price for those of you who sign up by December 31, 2013. This offer will be available at the same time we introduce the new version of Lightroom 5.2 in a couple weeks.
    I will only use
    Photoshop CC
    Ongoing upgrades and updates
$9.99 is a good price... to get current  ACR and possibly some Photoshop bug fixes..

Photonic, you said: "I can say Adobe "will" do these things because it is just good business for a company that has the leverage of a monopoly in this market segment -- which is what Adobe is all about today." I would suggest that you are assuming the very worst, and that your business model is flawed. There is only so much a company can alienate its customers before a very lucrative alternative market would spring up for a competitor. "Screw the Customer" really has never been Adobe's way of doing business.
Consider Photoshop. I bought my first version in 1996. The price? $1000 Cdn - about $850 USD. And it was a far far cry from the amazing piece of software that it is today. PsCs6 was about $700 before the CC model and it is now cheaper, much cheaper. Consider Lightroom. When I first bought Lightroom it was $300, upgrade $150. Now it is $150, upgrade $75. Lightroom is a lot more robust than it was initially. It has replaced Photoshop for many people, and even for some professionals.
Back to Ps. There are no longer two versions of the program, the Extended version being quite a lot more expensive. That might not have flown very well. The two programs are now one again and the price is lower than the standard version was.
It seems that some people are saying that despite the fact that Adobe has constantly lowered the price of their products and in fact, has made the initial cost so low that almost anyone could afford it if they need to have it, it is clear that they are just waiting until ... what .... everyone is addicted? Then they will jack up the price until it is as expensive as a car? Pardon my lifted eyebrows.
As for those people who are outraged that they have to have purchased a legit copy of Photoshop starting at PsCs3 - when was that - 2007? 6 year old software? - to qualify for the best deal in the Cloud paradigm - why should a person who has never spent a cent on the program qualify for the same price as I have paid (in the thousands by now)? What sort of customer loyalty would it be for Adobe to charge them the same as a person who has kept their software current - at least only six years ago?
Just a few things to consider. I am afraid that I don't buy your suggestion that Adobe is just waiting until all the suckers sign on before jacking the price up. It is software, not crack.

  • What will be better deal and better for gaming?

Ok here is my dilemma, I just got from Best Buy an open box macbook pro it's a i7 2.66mhz dual core with a Nvidia GT 330m 512mb graphics card, I have an oppurtunity to return it for a quad core i7 2.0mhz but thing is it only has a radeon 6490 256mb graphics card, ultimately whIch machine is going to be better for gaming under bootcamp? Is it worth the $600'price difference?

Check the Sun java.io API for reading basic text file. Check Apache POI HSSF or Andy Khan JExcelAPI for writing to XLS.

  • Is it worth paying for Microsoft office for Mac for college, or is buying iwork a better deal?

I'll be going off to college in a year or so, and im wondering if it is worth the 120 dollars for microsoft office, or is it better just to get iwork for mac right away?

Wait until you are enrolled after which you may get it free or at low cost from your school.
Don't bother with iWork. Schools are pretty standardized on Office. You could also download one the Office-like suites:
    LibreOffice
    Open Office
    Neo Office
Look for them at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads

  • I want to move my service to another carrier due to a better deal for the same plan. How do you figure out the ETF's??

I can save some money by switching, just want to make sure my ETF's are not more than they will cover when I switch?? Not sure how to calculate that number though....Thanks

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY POSTPAY SERVICE IS CANCELED BEFORE THE END OF MY CONTRACT TERM?
If you're signing up for Postpay Service, you're agreeing to subscribe to a line of Service either on a month–to–month basis or for a minimum contract term, as shown on your receipt or order confirmation.  (If your Service is suspended without billing, that time doesn't count toward completing your contract term.) Once you've completed your contract term, you'll automatically become a customer on a month–to–month basis for that line of Service. If you cancel a line of Service, or if we cancel it for good cause, during its contract term, you'll have to pay an early termination fee.  If your contract term results from your purchase of an advanced device, your early termination fee will be $350 minus $10 for each full month of your contract term that you complete. Otherwise, your early termination fee will be $175 minus $5 for each full month of your contract term that you complete.  Cancellations will become effective on the last day of that month's billing cycle, and you are responsible for all charges incurred until then.  Also, if you bought your wireless device from an authorized agent or third–party vendor, you should check whether they charge a separate termination fee.
