Better Keyboard

Do I have better keyboard options for my iPhone?
Hi,
I have been using my iphone 4S for a full two years.  As smart as the keyboard is supposed to be, I am still continually frustrated by how bad the auto correct is, how I push the delete key every other time I type the letter M, how I can never take my eyes off the keypad while typing, and how generally I spend all my focus and attention TRYING TO TYPE in stead of focusing on what I want to say.  I perhaps need to change to a device with a better keyboard, but I am reluctant to do this.
Are there better keyboard options out there I should be aware of?  Either a keyboard case that is AWESOME or a keyboard app or upgrade or something?  I hear good things about swipe typing on Android but don't know if it's a good option for my iphone.  I also tried a bluetooth keyboard case but the lag for it to connect every time I needed to use it and the inferior keyboard construction, not to mention that some apps do not rotate sideways when you open the keyboard, made it not worth my time.
I used to hope apple would one day come out with a physical keyboard, but don't think that will ever happen sadly.  The best phone keyboard for productivity that i ever had was the LG Voyager back in 2008.  Very clumsy old phone, but the productivity I had with that keyboard on the email program for simply banging out text emails has been unparalleled since.  I would pay $2000 for an iphone with the same keyboard as the LG Voyager.

I do not know any way to help you with the navigation through folders, but as far as deleting episodes in iTunes, you can use the keyboard shortcut command and delete. Then when the dialog box comes up to keep file or move to trash just press "m" That will initiate move to trash and you can keep you fingers on the keyboard. I am not sure if there is a way to move directly to trash without being asked. Knowing the complex nature of OSX there probably is.

  • Better keyboard/dictionnary

Is it possible to have a better keyboard/dictionnary behaviour? It looks like android is so much ahead right now. I'd like to have a dictionnary that could handle at least:
    - more than one language, namely, I'd like to use simultaneously three languages (English, French and Brazilian Portuguese). That would be something like swiftkey for archlinux. Don't know if it's possible but should be! It would be good even if there were no word suggestions. It is impressing that computer are now getting old with android stuff!!
With hunspell-en, fr and pt-br, we have to face about 20 dictionaries in firefox which is the ugliest part of my archlinux, now that I configured it systemd which is great BTW!

I also use both. I have two dictionaries available in Firefox which correspond to my LANGUAGE environmental variable but also to the dictionaries I have installed in firefox as addons.
In other applications, I get more dictionaries because I see various different variations on English but not in firefox. Firefox seems to do rather better at de-cluttering and integration than other applications for me, as it happens. I would like to know where Fedora gets its dictionaries, actually, as their Welsh system-wide (not firefox) dictionary is much better than the one I use in Arch. (Although Fedora's thinks most occurrences of the definite article are misspelt for some reason but you can't have everything.) I also get more choices for English but Welsh is definitely the most problematic on Arch.
I have to admit to not really understanding the relationship between all of the different spellers and dictionaries in Linux. hunspell, ispell, aspell, enchant... (oops, just turned my laptop into a frog.)
EDIT: You know you can install just the dictionaries you want, right? e.g. for hunspell, I just have hunspell-en. For aspell, I have aspell-cy and aspell-en.

  • Why cant Apple make a better keyboard/mouse

I went to Costco today and brought home the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 6000 and plugged it into my iMac. What a difference compared to the Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It is so much nicer to type on, and the functionality of the MS mouse beats the Apple one button by far. I know about the mighty mouse, but it still feels cheap compared to the MS mouse.
Why is Apple so cheap about its keyboards? They make the best computer for the money, but ship it with a sub-standard keyboard and mouse. So now if I want to type comfortably and use a good mouse, I have to put up with RF instead of bluetooth, and the fact that they MS desktop set doesn't really match the iMac aesthetically. I dont want to have to trade off. I think Apple should provide form and function for $1299.

Those old "Battleship Potempkin" keyboards were awesome back in the day.
I bought out a school that was redoing their labs and had literally dozens of those in my garage along with some of the newer, smaller Keyboad IIs. I sold them off of eBay after I tested them and gave them a good cleaning. They went surprisingly fast.
There is a company that makes a modern keyboard with the same premium keyswitches of the AEKII, the Matias Tactile Pro Keyboard. I have read rave reviews of it, and for the price, it had better be good.

  • ThinkPad Yoga: Needs a better keyboard & quiet trackpad

While I love the protection of the keyboard on the ThinkPad Yoga, I really hope future versions include more key travel. The current keyboard is frustrating.
The trackpad is LOUD.  Really? VERY LOUD. Distracting to the passenger on the plane next to me. He asked if I had a broken key.
Fantastic machine, but the keyboard and trackpad need work.
    JIM

    Hi Jim,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Thanks for your feedback regarding ThinkPad Yoga and I appreciate the thoughts shared.
While I think Lenovo still has an amazing build quality and the machines are tank-like in durability, people make comparisons within the same series. Many people have favorite features or design elements on a particular model, and because they value that, the design directions for new models may be seen as better or worse. Hopefully, our engineers will take the suggestions to concern while designing upcoming machines.
Regarding the trackpad clicking noise, Check if the sound is mechanical from the device itself and not related to the speakers at all.  If it is mechanical, possibly something is loose under the touchpad.

  • Better keyboard than the one that comes with GarageBand?

I do some light recording for people w/ GB, and was wondering if there was a free or inexpensive piano plug-in (AU, VST) that would at least sound more realistic than the included one. (i've looked into NI's Akoustik Piano, but too expensive for right now.)

  • Looking for totable one-hand keyboard for iPad

I want to carry my iPad into the field and need a better keyboard than the on-screen version. But, I also want it to fit onto the iPad so I can hold it with one hand and type with the other, so a non-flexible, horizontal frame for the iPad with a built-in keyboard would be ideal. Even more ideal would be if it had a hand strap (like my current leather case).
Surely I can't be the only one who needs this functionality, but I don't see anything offered by any of the major manufacturers, through Amazon or Ebay, or reviewed on a searchable site. Don't know where else to look.

Your best bet would be eBay or whatever online market your country has. I live in the Netherlands and Marktplaats.nl is a good source here. Where in Europe do you live?

  • Lumia 520 keyboard?

is there any options to download a better keyboard for the lumia 520 such as google keyboard?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi again,
After 2 x hours on the phone to Orange/EE i managed to finally get thru to a Technician !!
He advised me to purchase/download the T-9 application from the Windows Market Place Apps website.  So i paid (reluctantly) and installed it.
But when i tried it out (in Whats App and sending Emails within my Hotmail account) i just can not for the life of me work out how to open it ??
i can open it from scratch and send a Text Message (from scratch), but if i receive a Text Message and i chose to REPLY, the original tiny QWERTY Nokia default keyboard appears (and remains) as the only option of a means of Texting !!
Also, it is supposed to perform PREDICTIVE TEXT mode but again i can not fathom how to activate this.
The EE/Orange Tech Support 100% assured me that the T-9 would do exactly what i wanted it to and that it was perfect for my needs.
    Thanks,
    Paul
(Please do not PM me for KUDOS requests !! Thank you).

  • Jampack Symphony / keyboard issue. . .

I am really loving Symphony JamPack to bring full strings to overlay over guitar and vocal tracks. (I'm using real instruments controlled by a fairly simple keyboard (M-Audio).
I am having some trouble doing certain things, like a slide of trombone or blast of horns - and I am wondering would a better keyboard improve this or is this just a limitation in working with Software Instruments? I haven't played around much with this and thought if anyone has any info or references that would be great.

  • Ejecting my CD after changing my keyboard.

Because I program in C/C++ I've needed to buy a better keyboard than the one I got when I bought my Mac Mini. Standard Apple keyboards don't contain certain keys that you need all the time whilst programming (for example, the # key). I know you can get around these problems with key various combinations but it's very inconvenient when the missing keys are needed so often.
Anyway, my new keyboard works fine and even has some loudspeaker keys that control my Mac's audio volume, exactly like the old keyboard did. The only thing that's missing as a key to eject the CD. Obviously, if I'm booted into the OS that's not a problem but I reckon it will be a problem if I ever need to eject a CD before the OS loads (e.g. whilst I'm at the boot menu that comes up if I hit the Option key during boot-up).
Is there any other combination of keys that will eject a CD? I read somewhere that pressing the space bar (whilst at the boot menu) should work but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Thanks Matt. I managed to get the menu item OK but your tip about holding down the left mouse button (whilst booting up) doesn't seem to work for me. I'm using a trackerball though, rather than a mouse but I wouldn't have thought that would make much difference (unless its specifically a feature of Apple mice).

  • Extra keypad to make keyboard shortcuts easier?   Shuttle Pro v.2?

    Hi all,
I like the white keyboard that came with my Mac Pro except for the fact the F keys are all squished together. I like how PC keyboards group the F keys in groups of 4. Even with the F keys grouped are not that easy for me to use. I also have a Logitech Internet Navigator keyboard that has media keys along the top. I am visually impaired so I do touch typing and don't look at the keyboard. In fact, I keep the keyboard tray recessed under the desk while I am typing. I am currently using the Mac Pro keyboard with my Mac Pro. I haven't tried using the Logitech keyboard with the Mac Pro.
I'm trying to make it easier to access shortcut keys. I don't really like redefining keyboard keystrokes because I don't know if I am overriding an existing keyboard shutcut. So, a better keyboard shortcut manager would be nice that showed me applications use which shortcut keys. Does such software exist for the mac? Could such programs learn the shortcuts used by newly installed applications?
Also, I think it would be handy to have an external keypad that I can assign shortcuts to. I would want some shortcuts to be global and some to be local to certain apps. Also, I want to be able to use the main keyboard's modifier keys. At least one jog wheel would be nice too. The Shuttle Pro V.2 looks like a possibility but I can find very many articles about it for general use. Most of the articles refer to it being used with pro apps. Anyone care to share their experience with this?
BTW, I use a Logitech TrackMan Marble+ trackball instead of the Mighty Mouse.
I'd appreciate any other suggestions such as keyboards or extra keypads.
    Thanks!
    Steven

I would expect one to be able to add a shortcut to this specific command in FCP X's command editor, but like you I can't seem to find it there.
    I can offer two suggestions:
    1) If you use Save Current Frame more than any other export option, you can easily attach to it the default Cmd-E.
Open Preferences->Destinations, control-click on "Save Current Frame" in the left pane and choose "make default".
    2) You can use the system keyboard shortcuts to assign an appropriate shortcut to "Save Current Frame...".
Open System Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts. Click on "App Shortcuts", then click the "+" button to add a new one. Select Final Cut Pro as the application, enter the text of the menu command *exactly* - "Save Current Frame..." without the quotes - then click the box for the shortcut and enter the desired one. I tested this with Cmd-Control-Option-Shift S and it worked immediately (not even needed to quit FCP X).

  • IPad keyboard limitations (sorry if this has been the subject of endless posts BUT I still see no solutions)

iPad keyboard limitations: Is there any way to obtain a better keyboard (or any chance of this changing e.g. after an upgrade to iOS) especially for text editing: specifically delete key and cursor arrows or similar (found a great idea at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGQTaHGQ04Q&feature=plcp), without adding an external keyboard (at which point my laptop looks more appropriate)

I like the virtual keyboard on my iPad 1, IT WORKS GREAT, easy for me to see, my big fingers have NO PROBLEM in using it, I don't hit the wrong keys or get double characters, etc.  I have ZERO complaints about the keyboard.

  • Keyboard with more soft keys

I have recently bought HP Compaq 6730b notebook (product number: NB019EA#AKD). It is a good notebook but there is one issue that I don't like. Pressing keys on keyboard is too hard for me to be comfortable. My local HP call center told that HP doesn't have replacement keyboards with softer keys. Of course I expected this answer. But they also told that I can try to obtain keyboard replacement from other producers. There can be some keyboards from no name companies that can be more soft. Do you know such keyboards? I don't want to buy one and pay for transport to my country if I am not sure about it if it is better keyboard than I already have.
My keyboard number is 487136-B31, but I think that it is common for all HP keyboards.

Generally what do you think about keyboards in HP? Do you think similarly as I or not?

  • T500 Keyboard flex problem

After comparing a few laptops I decided to buy a Lenovo T500 (2082-8WG), convinced of the unbeatable quality and support.
However, I was unpleasantly surprised by the flex keyboard (left site), like mentioned already here on several posts.
Is there still a possibility to receive a better keyboard or the brackets to solve my problem? I am from the Netherlands, and I did not see anyone else with this problem from my country on this forum.

Windows 7 & switchable graphics aren't playing nice right now.  I'll blame it on the ATI drivers, but it might be a BIOS issue, since the most recent BIOS says that switchable is only available for Vista.

  • Assigning Keyboard Shortcuts to Styles

In the previous version of Pages one could assign a keyboard shortcut to a style. I can't find this feature in the new version relesed today. Is it missing or hidden?

    Honestly, I'm livid.
I paid for Pages and iWork because, in my opinion, it was the best word processor on the market. It was lightweight, versitile, customizable, and fast.
Version 5.0, however, looks more refined, but is slow, clunky, and difficult. Beyond the missing keyboard shortcuts:
Why does it take 3 clicks to change the paragraph style?
Why does it take two clicks, mousing down on a flatly-designed hover menu to come to an arrow, that you need to click, and then carefully mousing further to the right, followed by a click, to enforce the paragraph style while the Update button, in bright blue, is seldom used.
You can't edit the text in a hyperlink without clicking on it first. I can't believe this design desicion. Even the webform I'm tying in right now allows me to edit the text in a hyperlink without an overlay.
That the filenames are the same has made backwards compatability impractical if you work on a team.
This is shameful and lazy. Google Docs, an online-only editor, has better keyboard shortcuts, useability, and cross-format compatibility. I preferred Pages '09 over any iteration of Google Docs, but now I find myself inclined to open up a web browser before opening up Pages 5.0—even on slow Internet connections.
Apple: please, please fix this. Or, update Pages '09 to be forward-compatible. Or hire me so I can do it myself. Yes, it bothers me that much.

  • T500 2242-4FU Keyboard and other questions

    Hi.
I am considering buying a used T500 2242-4FU and wanted to know if this model has the updated, sturdier keyboard.
If not, is it possible to upgrade it to the better keyboard?
I currently use the Z60M and would like to know if the keyboard, which is what I buy Thinkpads for, will be comparable.
    Thanks

    Way to oversize your font.
The T500 and Z60 keyboards are compatible. If the model you get has the lightened keyboard, you can just buy a solid-backed one elsewhere.
