Better, more intuitive way to browse the app store from the iPhone?

This is a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. Sometimes, when I am browsing apps in the app store on my phone, I will go into an app's detail page, but when I page back to the full app listing in the given category, I have been returned to the top of the list. Is there any way to make the phone "remember" my place in the list? This is especially annoying when browsing a big category, such as games or entertainment. Also, what is the rhyme or reason to the way apps are listed in a given category? It seems to be a frankenstein-esque blend of "date added" and "alphabetical". I wish there was a better, more intuitive way to browse/sort.

I tried this with a game that was somewhere in the last set of 25 I could load (in this case, Paper Airplane, which is somewhere around 90th on the list), and tapping Games in the upper left takes me back to the part of the list showing that app, not the top.
However, if you exit the App Store (return to the home screen), in that case, you are returned to the Games category at the top of the list, showing only the first 25. That's true even if you are viewing an app at the bottom of the first 25. I suspect that's by design - it would make sense that if I leave the App Store in the Games category, or looking at a specific game, returning the App Store at some later date, I'd want to see the "top" of the list (i.e. the most recently-added apps). At least, that's my guess at the logic.
