Better Search Capability For Eclipse?

Hello,
I don't like the Eclipse search functionality because it doesn't show you any text results when you run a search. In some IDE's, you can search on a term, and then a snippt of the text containing the term shows up next to the search results (JCreator, J++, Textpad). Sometimes this is critical for me to scan a large search resultset all at once to find a problem or determine what files I need to edit. With the basic Eclipse 3.1 search engine, you have to open each file individually to see the context of the text containing the search terms.
Does any know if there is a plugin for Eclipse that offers an improved search capability? Or is there an easier way to accomplish what I want?
Thanks,
Michael

Eclipse provides functionality to find file
containing searched text: select menu item 'Search',
then select 'File...' item and enter searched text. That is the worst response I have ever read on this forum, bar none. Did you even read my question? I just said that I DON'T LIKE the way Eclipse displays the search results when you use Search | File or Search | Java. Why are you telling me to do the very same thing I am saying I don't like? I want a plug-in that shows me a different view of the results than just a list of files that contain them. I want to see a text snippet of the line containing the search text next to my results so I can glance at the search results and determine whether I even need to open the file. Other IDE's do this. Please read the questions more carefully next time before posting responses like this. Anyone else?

  • I need SEARCH capability for my website

OK, I've got a small site (10 pages) built with basic html
pages in Dreamwever. I need SITE SEARCH capability, but I'm really
not sure where to begin. I know this, having a search box with
Google branded on it would not be cool. I need a custom look to the

Host to use it. Can someone tell me where I can get basic tutoring

  • Search capability for all information?

From what I understand, there are three types of search capabilities in Oracle Portal:
    1. interMedia Text searching in Oracle Portal available for content areas only.
    2. Oracle Portal Navigator for searches on Oracle Portal pages.
    3. Oracle Portal Search portlet for searches on applications (and content areas)
How do you do one search for all three types of information (content areas, portal pages, and applications)?
Our customer would like one place to search for all information on the Oracle Portal website. This would include documents in the Content Library, web pages, and data contained in tables that are populated by forms.

No one here will no if they intend doing that or not. Hopefully they will, you'll just have to wait and see. You can post feedback requesting that feature here: You can leave your feedback at this link: Apple Product Feedback

  • "Search" capability for documents not working.  What do I do?

See above.  And computer has been acting weird lately.  I still can't empty by trash because it seems my time machine has dumped backups in there with programs and apps.

Only notebooks "dump backups in there" as in deferred TimeMachine when a drive is not found or connected to use.
In which case you should do more sytem maintenance and directory as well as file integrity tests.

  • Search capability in Module Manager

I pulled up the Module Manager and wanted to verify that I
had already installed the DTrace module from the Update Center.
But it took me longer than I expected to find DTrace in the module manager -- there are
so many different modules installed! Finally found it under "Debugging" whereas I'd
been looking under "Sun Studio" and "Tools".
Is there a search capability for the Module Manager that I missed? I'd like to be able
to type in something close to "DTrace" and get a list or view of installed modules that seem like
close matches. Or are there other ways to find a particular installed module than to flip all the
"turners" one by one? I'm afraid that feels to me a little bit like looking under rocks!

In SunStudio12 there's no search facility in
the ModuleManager but you can use the context menu and
sort by name. That collapses the hierarchy and sorts.
In the upcoming NB6.0 based SunStudio there won't be a ModuleManager, but only a Plugin manager and it has
    search capability.

  • Better search/indexing capability for the Idea Exchange Forums

Now  that we are getting more ideas posted to the idea exchange it would be helpful if we could have an improved indexing and search capability. This would help to reduce the number of duplicate ideas posted. I know I have ended up posting a couple of duplicates even after searching.

If you ever have a specific example of the search not finding a related idea, please post it here. When I've gotten feedback about this before and then tried to search myself, it seemed like the related idea always came up.  I definitely would like a specific case that I could give to our forum vendor.
I do agree, the Google like feature with misspelled words would be very helpful and I'll pass along that suggestion.
    Thanks!

  • CR for Eclipse 1.0 with Web AS as server runtime - how to?

    Hello!
I'm going to learn Crystal Reports for Eclipse 1.0.
In any tutorial about CR I have seen that only Apache Tomcat mentioned as used Server Runtime, not Web AS. Eclipse has predefined tempates for some of servers but there is no Web AS.
Is it possible to setup Eclipse for working with Web AS 7.0 and if yes how I can do this? Or it will be better to use Tomcat in local development?
    regards, Lev

Not sure what Web AS is, but have you tried searching for an Eclipse plugin for that server?  Since Eclipse is open source, someone may have written a plugin that you can add to the Eclipse IDE.
If you can't find a plug in, you can either create a Tomcat test server in the IDE (this is preferable) or you can export the project as a .war to your application server.

  • UML tool / plug-in for ECLIPSE

    Hello,
I'm searching for a UML tool or plug-in for ECLIPSE.
So far I couldn't find anything and I'm wondering whether such a thing exists at all.
Do you know something on this topic?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pesho

P.S. It's not zero plugins; IBM packsmassive
amounts of junk in there... :o)Still better than NetBeans.....which I tried at v5.0
as everyone said how good it was and ran away
screaming back to Eclipse. :)Really? I tried NB 5 at home on approx 1.2GHz Athlon with 1.5Gbyyes RAM. Seemed to load and run faster than WSAD 5.1.2 (Eclipse 2.something).
I still prefer PFE (Programmers File Editor) to an IDE.

  • FREEEEE struts/jsp editor plugin for Eclipse

    Hi guys,
I am tired of searching for struts/jsp editor plugin for Eclipse. I tried the trail version for Exadel, My eclipse, Lomboz, but none of them are good enough. I dont want to pay for a plugin.
So I downloaded Netbeans IDE which has good support for struts. But I dont want to change my Eclipse IDE because its much better.
In case you are already using a good struts/jsp editor plugin for Eclipse then please advice me ASAP.
I dont want to type up the code like <html:text or wait for runtime compilation to realize that there is a problem in the syntax. Wouldnt it be a lot better if the IDE help us reduce the development time.
    Thanx

I have searched for flex plugin for Eclipse but in vain.I have made a serach in google adobe....
A freind of mine told me that you can just cut and paste the installation folder of adobe flex builder into the eclipse Galileo folder

I think what you are wanting is the Flash Builder 4 Beta (plugin version).  Adobe renamed it from Flex Builder to Flash Builder as of version 4.
It should be posted in the labs at this link

I searched on scn and got the listing you mentioned.
The jsp code I am using is as follows.
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1" %><%@ taglib uri="/crystal-tags-reportviewer.tld" prefix="crviewer" %><crviewer:viewer reportSourceType="reportingComponent" viewerName="CrystalReport1-viewer" reportSourceVar="CrystalReport1" isOwnPage="true"><crviewer:report reportName="CrystalReport1.rpt" /></crviewer:viewer>
And I get the following exception on selecting any export.
WebReportingException: getOutputStream() has already been called...
So I think maybe this problem is not the same as listed under SAP Note 1199025.
Also the strange thing is I just download the full ganymede version with crystal report for eclipse version 2, and created a default crystal reports website.
The samples were provided automatically, and I have not written any code myself.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Crystal Report For Eclipse: POJO problem

    Hi all,
I am using crystal report for eclipse basic version and used POJO-method to implement for users to viewing my report.
    I did the following:
I created a sql page (create a target table) and import into crystal report (through  crystal report designer under eclipse environment) E.g. let's say I created a table with 10 fields and imported into the crystal report.
Then I drag and drop through crystal report for my report design.
Later if I need to add one more field .....
I need to modified my SQL page and re-import the sql page into my crystal report. HOWEVER, through this re-import process, I lost all the detail/information on the existing report (that mean I need to re-design my report through the designer under eclipse environmet).
My question is: Is there any better way for me to implement my report ???
THANKS .. THANKS a lot as this problem make me use a lot of my time ... THANKS

In the sceario you have described (using a SQLPage as the datasource for the report), unfortunately, this is a limitation of the workflow. If you need to change the SQL, then you essentially need to remove and re-add it to the report which means replacing all the fields on the report.
Instead, I would recommend using a class as the report's datasource.  The class would represent the fields that would be used in your POJO object.  This way if you need to modify the fields in the POJO, you can simply update the class and use the Verify Database to update the report.
