Better Slo Mo???

I am switching from AVID Xpro with Mojo to FCP for most of my future projects. I am making the switch for various reasons, but one element that has me worried is the quality of slo mo in FCP. I do a lot of sports and good slo mo is important. AVID does a great job compared to FCP. Could I be doing something wrong? It looks blurry or ghostly in FCP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks much.

Yeah, FCP's internal slo-mo gets poor grades. Though it takes longer, try using Compressor (version 2) to do your slo-mo work, as detailed in this thread:

Slo-mo in Final Cut Express?

I'm very new to video editing. I've done a bunch of little iMovie projects but it's time to step it up. My first project using Final Cut(haven't bought it yet) will be a slow motion exercise. I bought a Casio EX-F1 because it can shoot 300 fps(512x384) and it looks very cool but it's a little small. It also shoots in HD but because of my budget constraints I can't afford a camera that shoots high speed HD so I'm trying to get creative.
Can Final Cut Express or Pro slow HD footage down to whatever is the equivalent of shooting at 300fps? My other idea was to shoot at 300fps with the Casio and then project it and re-shoot in HD. I know this isn't the best way but it still may yield a cool effect!?

I don't know how high speed works on pro cameras but is the footage not already being brought down to a standard frame rate? Here's an example of what I've done with no effects. I just pulled the clips off the camera and edited them. I think the Casio plays it back or converts it to a standard frame rate for you!?

So I love the rate at which it's slowed down but like I said the native size it shoots in is very small. My goal is to achieve this dream-like quality in HD using only Final Cut (Pro or Express) and my Casio EX-F1. I also own a Canon G9 but I don't think it shoots in HD although it has a better lens than the Casio.
Not knowing a whole lot about it I figure my options are shooting in HD mode on Casio and slowing it down in post in Final Cut.

Shooting at 300fps on the Casio, drag the clips on to my computer, play it out through a projector and film that on a tripod in HD with the angles and framing worked out as best I can. Assuming the lighting of my source footage is good and I have a decent projector(and a belly dancer) this might be worth trying.
I'm assuming Final Cut can't achieve this fluid motion with frames that aren't there- meaning it's always better to shoot at high speed if fluid slo-mo is the desired effect?

Smooth Slo-Mo with FCP 6

Done some searching in this forum and can't seem to find a solution to my problem.
I've got some 720 24P footage shot on Sony EX-1 and try to convert clips to 50% speed through Motion and using Optical Flow for the frame blending and still can't seem to get a smooth, non-jumping, slo-mo effect.
Converting about 2/3 of my B roll shots to slo-mo.
Are there anything other techniques I could try or am I S.O.L. because the original footage was shot at 24P?

I've gotten pretty amazing results from sending to Motion and using optical flow but usually not that extreme a slow down. Sometimes adjusting the change in speed by a small amount can make a difference. Don't think there's anything better available in the fcp suite. Not sure if you could do any better in After Effects, but might be worth some investigation.

5S Slo Mo video imported into FCX and keep slow motion

So I just got the new 5S and was mainly excited about the slo-mo effect. I have found that because it shoots it as 720p 120fps, it is going to keep those settings imported into final cut. As you add it into your project and want to keep it as clean as the original, it will have to be 1280x720 for frame size and choose 30fps. Then select the clip in your time line, and go to the retiming menu off to the right side and choose conform speed. It will retime it to 25% but understand its frames and keep the original quality. As it seems anyway. Any other better suggestions or settings would be greatly appreciated.

Shadowy jerky effect on slo-mo shots when played back on television monitor

Has anybody else noticed this problem?
When playing back a movie edited in imovie 4 on a DVD-R through a television monitor all the slo-mo shots have a shadowy jerky effect on them. They don't play smoothly as they do when the same DVD-R is played back on my computer monitor.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated. It ruins the whole effect of the slo-mo.

Did iMovie prompt you to render the project when sending to iDVD. Slo-mo needs the deinterlacing that process does -- otherwise the output is jerky on a TV.

24p and slo motion

Hello, does anyone know how to slo motion 24p footage, when I try to do it, it doesn't look good at all, is there a trick I'm missing? I shot in 24p adv and just captured into a standard timeline regular 29 frame settings for dv video.

Select the clips and choose export:using compressor. Use one of the advanced format conversions that matches your codec, and crank up the frame rate to twice or 3 times the starting frame rate. Turn on the frame controls. The resulting clip will be the same duration with 3 times as many frames.
Now take this clip and open it with cinema tools and re-conform it to the original frame rate. bring this back into FCP and voila - much smoother slow-mo, and the clip is now native and does not need rendering.

24P to slo motion

Okay, I made a boo boo. I shot some footage for the explicit purpose of putting it in slo mo- but accidentally shot it in 24P with my dvx camera. Is there anything I can do if I want to slow this down without it being too jerky?

Slo-mo, fit to fill and reverses

FCP is great until i try and reverse slo-mo or fit to fill a shot then I get terrible shudder on the shots, it was suggested that I try motion , I dont really know motion so how do I do that and is it better than FCP?

I think, perhaps, you don't have the latest version of the software as there is a recent update that specifically addresses this issue.
I really think you need to read the manual about using Optical flow, as it's a process.
Further, you should get decent speed changes in FCP. What are your timeline specs? What speed changes are you looking to achieve?

Slo mo

I can't believe the all powerful Mac Apple FCP 5
can't do a nice clean slo mo with having to do a world wide search on the net.
A smooth slo mo is so basic that even the WINDOWS platform video software has it right and BETTER!!!
Apple should get it's pompas act together for the price of the computers and the software you can't get a simple and basic stinkin slo mo.
I don't know if this forum reaches the Apple Mac god's but this is who it is directed at.
It's time for you to deliver a good product with SOLID basic tools.

Working with HDV also inhibits the amount of real time effects you can do as well.
The best workflow for HDV is to offline capture at DV resolution, then media manage the project to capture only the clips used in the cut and capture at a higher HD resolution, like DVCPRO HD or 8-bit uncompressed HD. For that you will need a capture card and high speed drives.
And just so you know, you cannot view HDV on an external monitor routed thru the camera or deck like you can with DVCAM or DVCPRO HD. You will need the HD capture card for monitor viewing...and an HD monitor.
HDV is a pretty decent aquisition format...but thus far provind the most difficult format to work with. Some have had no problems, but most have some issue or another. Best to avoid using it in it's native form in all parts of post production.

Slo-mo from iPhone 6 not playing on Apple TV, other videos do.

Apple TV will play normal videos taken on iPhone 6, but not slo-mo videos. 3rd generation Apple TV and iPhone on IOS 8.1.2. What to do?

60fps - 30fps - 24fps for slight slo-mo?

So I'm recording a musicvideo with my band. We would like to have a slight slo-mo effect from overcranking, and slowing down 30fps to 24fps.
The problem here is that my camera, a sony a6000, only records 24 and 60fps. Is it possible to record @ 60 fps, remove every other frame, ie. convert to 30fps, and then slow down to 80% speed/24fps?
What would the proper way to do that in premiere be, with avchd files from the camera?
Or would it be better to record @ 60fps and slow down to 80%, and then just finally export to 24fps?

Timewarp in after effects is almost as good as twixtor (it's got few tweaks for difficult scenes but does pretty well). Unfortunately you do have to drop in to After Effects to use it
I was rather hoping it was going to be in CS6 like Warp Stablizer is, because those were the two effects I used most.

SWF playing slo mo on line?

I have a web banner that contains a 12 sec video clip - with
text fading in and out at the appropriate times, to the right of
it, outside of the video portion of the banner. I've uploaded the
flv, swf, html files to server.
So when I preview my flash file in Flash Pro 8, the timing is
fine between the video clip and when the text fades up and fades
out - but when I publish the file and post it on line - the text
seems to delay and fade out later than it should, while the video
clip is fine and plays as it should, normal speed. Seems as though
the swf is playing at slower speed though the video clip is normal
speed - how is this happening and what to do.
I have the same problem with another banner where there is an
animated lava lamp (all Flash animation) and the text seems to
"play" slower on line than when I previewed it in Flash? Is this
possible? What to do?

Problem with Outer and Inner Classes....or better way?

Right now I'm trying to create an Inner class.
My .java file compiles ok, and I create my jar file too.
But when I try to instantiate the Inner class, it fails:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/myco/vlXML/vlXML$vlDocument.
Here's the class code:

While I have your attention, if you don't mind, I have another question.
I'm creating a Class (outer) that allows my users to write a specific XML file (according to my own schema).
Within the XML file, they can have multiple instances of certain tags, like "Document". "Document"s can have multiple fields.
Since I don't know how many "Documents" they may want, I was planning on using an Inner Class of "Document", and then simply letting them "add" as many as necessary (thus the original code posted here).
Does that seem like an efficient (logical/reasonable) methodology,
or is there there something better?

I am trying to open Firefox. I have changed from Beta to 3.6, neither came up on my Icon. got to registration which last night was told that it was authenticated now can't get any help. Please no more lists I need person to help me. Can't get Chats

Firefox will not open. If I click the icon I get a less than oe second flash of Firefox on the bar and then its quickly changes to Finder.
I have tried many different User names/Passwords that I no longer know which one is used. Please I have spent hours just trying to get connected to Firefox and cannot do it. I need to open Firefox for some documents for my job or I will lose the job. I wrote
all of this to you last night and was told than I was connected. Today I connected the old proxy and think that I have cleared that up. Should I drop the old Icon in trash, throw it away and start with either 3.6 or beta. I really need some help and will

Nobody can help you without proper system and version information or other technical details. if the update is botched, then run the cleaner tool and reinstall from scratch.

Pinch open and close zoom (mac) not working in latest beta update

Anybody know why pinch open close for the mac track pad suddenly does not zoom in the lastest beta update?

I am typing out easy instructions for those that are new to entering values. I myself am no expert for sure. It took me awhile to figure it out and I got it to work. I was mad when the pinch to zoom didn’t work after I updated. Thank you '''cor-el''' for posting a fix.
1. Go to a new tab, type in ''about:config'' hit enter
2. Click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button
3. Scroll down until you see “browser.gesture.pinch.in” right click on it and hit modify
4. A drop down that says “Enter string value” appears type in ''cmd_fullZoomReduce''
5. Click ok
Find the other ones and do the same. After you have entered all four you should see them in bold and on the right under value you should see only this cmd_fullZoomReduce part.
6.Once you have it all entered just close the tab and it should work.
I didn’t have to quit Firefox for it to work, but you may.
I’m using a MacBook Pro and it worked great, Hope this helps.
