Better SOP for images with image captions?

Hi,
FM 8.04, Win XP.
When I work with images that shall have image captions, I use a pre-defined one row, one column table format that has a a table caption set to below. I then import the image into the one cell.
However, in some cases I would like images be anchored at bottom of columns, rather than at top of columns (or floating). The thing is that since the anchored frame sits inside a table cell, it is the table's placement that I must change. And tables do not have the "At bottom of column" option.
Any suggestion for a better standard of procedure for "At bottom of column" images, with retained caption functionality?
TIA,
/Mats

Mats,
You could always just use only anchored frames and add an additional
text frame to the anchored frame in the proper location relative to
the inserted graphic. Since the anchored frame is part of the flow,
the included text frames in these behave correctly with respect to
autonumbering and being picked up in the proper in generated lists.
If you create the styled anchored on a Reference page (in a text frame
of course) then you can quickly get at the proper "template" of what
you need using copy & paste.

  • Comparing two images with Imaging Lingo

    Hi everybody!
    Here's the deal: I have two grayscale images and I want to
    find out where they match the closest. I want to compute the
    difference between the two and find the spot with the least
    difference.
    So I copy one into the other with the #ink: 38 ("subtract")
    and wherever is the darkest spot the images are closest alike.
    Right? Wrong!
    When Director subtracts one color from the other and the
    result is below 0, Director adds another 256 so the result is
    always between 0 and 255. When I use "subtract pin" the result is
    almost completely black, so this doesn't help as well. I thought
    about simulation high dynamic range images with some stupid hacks
    but to no avail.
    Where am I thinking wrong? Can I compute the difference with
    Imaging Lingo? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Here's an idea: use reverse ink to copy one image onto the
    other. The areas which are most nearly white in the resulting image
    will be the closest match. You can adapt the code found at
    nonlinear.openspark.com
    to isolate the pixels that are nearly white.

  • How do I display thumbnails for subfolders with images in Finder?

    Hello. I've settled in quite nicely with OS X but I find there's one thing I couldn't replace with a better alternative from XP and I've looked extensively for a solution but with no luck, so I figured I'd ask.
    It's best described with a picture (http://i38.tinypic.com/2j2i1rr.png). All those folders have images in them (at their root, not in subfolders). Instead of the generic folder icon, I'd like a thumbnail of the images in the folder (like this: http://imgsrv.worldstart.com/ct-images/folder-pic-blank1.jpg). The closest I've gotten to this is ticking "Show icon preview" in Finder's view options menu, but this only displays the thumbnails when I actually open the folder which is a bit of a problem when you have 200+ folders and you're looking for a specific one. The only thing remotely like this that I've found is FileBrowse (http://www.filebrowse.com/index.html) but it's too fat and slow to be of much use.
    Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

    baltwo: Thanks for the tip, I didn't know how easy it was to set up custom icons in OS X. In this case it's a difficult solution because it will have to be done by hand for every single folder, which is a problem if I'm going to have these in two places. I'm new to Automator but there doesn't seem to be a way to have it; 1) Select all the folders in a directory. 2) Copy the first image in each folder to the clipboard and have it use that image as each folder's icon.
    Barney-15E: I know it sounds moronic, but yes. I've tried iPhoto but it's not a very good solution in this case. My folder structure is like this:
    Root -> 282 image folders with 10 to 60 pictures in each.
    All I really need is the ability to see at a glance what each image folder has without opening each individual folder. The folders are numbered sequentially (1-282 in this case) rather than by proper names, so this is the most efficient way.

  • Best sequence setting for use with images?

    Hey all.
    I'll be working on a project that will be dealing with mostly images. I have them in their original RAW format as well as jpgs. After messing around in Final Cut with the images, I've noticed that the Viewer will display the image crisp and clear and once displayed on the Canvas window, the image is slightly blurred and the quality is decreased slightly which I'm assuming is because of sequence setting? Basically I'm wondering what my settings should be to produce the highest quality images when displayed in a quicktime movie when I export it.
    Examples of high quality images in a quicktime movie of what I'm looking for:
    http://vimeo.com/7070015
    Any input would be appreciated.
    -Neil

    a project that will be dealing with mostly images...
    And what will the other stuff be, video? What format?
    The viewer always presents the image as is. When you place it on the Timeline, it takes on the attributes of the Sequence setting.
    Your images might be 4000x3000 pixels, but that's not a video standard. Blowing up any video to those pixel dimensions will make it look awful.

  • Bridge CS4 won't output to pdf multiple images with same filename

    Hiya...my googling efforts have thus far failed!
    I've got CS4, and in Bridge, I created a New Smart Collection to find all filenames in a folder containing "." or ".jpg" - which in turn searched through all the subfolders like what you used to be able to do in Photoshop CS3.  Very simple stuff, but all the images are jpg's, but in multiple folders (I don't want to move them out of the folders, as the files came from an external source, and there are heaps of folders, and I don't want to pdf each subfolder seperately as it will take forever).
    The problem is that some of the files have the same filenames (again I'd prefer not to rename, as it happens a lot on this project, and they are all over the place).  So whilst Bridge will show the thumbnail images correctly in the content tabbed screen in my New Smart Collection, but once I've done the Output to PDF thing, for example, instead of showing both different images it has pdf only the first image but repeated it twice.  And this happens multiple times throughout the pdf, the more times the same filename is used, the more times the first image gets repeated.
    I know that it is messy to have multiple similar filenames, but why can't bridge just place the image anyway?  It allocated a space for it on the pdf and does show it in bridge, it just doesn't seem to survive the transfer to pdf well.
    The only other thing that I have done is use the below link (which was posted on another adobe forum thread) to create a custom pdf output template (nothing too fancy, just number of rows / columns, size, font etc).  But I've tried using the standard bridge templates and it does the same thing.
    http://www.proficiografik.com/2009/08/03/save-custom-pdf-output-template-in-adobe-bridge-c s4.html
    Any help would be appreciated...even if to tell me that I am being unreasonable!
    UPDATE 16/11/09
    Just to let you know that I seem to have resolved the bug inadvertently with one of the Adobe updates. The below is the link for the AdobeOutputModule-2.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.zip which was released on 2/19/2009 - which allows for headers & footers to be placed in the Ouput pdf. I finally installed it today, and everything seems to be working fine now (i.e. I can pdf multiple images with the same filenames and the pdf will actually show each different image rather than repeating only 1 of the images).
    Must have been a fix installed in the contact sheet templates that get installed with the update - not sure why the original version was corrupted, but I've left that with the Adobe guys (I submitted a bug report - and they were able to replicate the problem but hadn't fixed it as yet).

    When I click import from disc I am asked to choose a disc and then I get this message:
    The following photos will not be imported because they are already present in the catalog. To see these photos in the catalog select 'Show in Library' (the import will be canceled).
    This is followed by a long list of images. If I click 'Show in Library' I can see all the images with the same filename. And then they start to automatically write over those images with images from the disc. However they keep the same metadata and keywords from the previous images. If I click on Import and deselect the "don't reimport suspected duplicates" box, it imports only the images that don't share filenames and none of the images that do.
    Is there a way of setting the "Don't reimport suspected duplicates" box in preferences?

  • Problem with image multiplication

    Hi,
    I am working on an image processing application and I have a problem with multiplacation of image. I use an autothresholding function to get a binary image. After thresholding I want to superimpose binary image with image taken with a traditional camera. The problem is that I need to multiply every pixel value of the binary image by 255 to get proper results of image fusion. To multiply image I used IMAQ multiply function which seems to work properly. After multiplication I need to convert image to array, so I used imagetoarray function. Unfortunately I don't get proper values after this operation - all array values are 0. I appreciate any help with this problem.
    I attached the vi with added a comment next to the conversion function.
    Attachments:
    Image Fusion-single_image_ver3.vi ‏84 KB

    I'm not sure if this is the problem, as I've only done a little image manipulation.  I believe that, by default (unless you specify otherwise), images are U8 gray-scale quantities.  If you multiply a U8 by 255 (Sgl) and express the result as a U8, the result will be 255 for all values except 0 (when it will be 0).
    Does your thresholded image autoBthreshold 4 image look all black (or white -- I can't remember which color = 255)?  If so, then your code is "doing what you told it to do", which might not be the same thing as "doing what you want it to do" ...

  • Multiple images with same filename

    I have a very large library of images on DVD and I want to make a database of the entire library in Lightroom. I do not rename my images from my camera so it's not uncommon for me to have multiple images on different discs with the same filename. I'm finding when I try to import these images into lightroom they write over the existing images that share the filename. Is there a way to work around this? I assumed the different EXIF data would be enough for the program to realize that it was dealing with two different images, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
    In a possibly related issue, I've found some images that have the wrong filename in lightroom (different from the filename on the original disc). What's up with that?
    I've been working for weeks trying to create this database. It's huge already and I've barely scratched the surface of my entire collection. Currently I'm over 22,000 images and I suspect I'll be over 300,000 when all is said and done. I need to resolve this or all those hours of work will have been for naught. Help!
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • Changing images with c#

    Hi,
    I am making a slotmachine. I have everything but only need an animation for changing the images. This is what i got(only the code for the animation). I can change 2 images but don't know how to do it with multiple images like 5.
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.ComponentModel;
    using System.Data;
    using System.Drawing;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Threading.Tasks;
    using System.Windows.Forms;
    namespace animatie
        public partial class Form1 : Form
            public Form1()
                InitializeComponent();
                Timer t = new Timer();
                t.Interval = 100;
                t.Tick += new EventHandler(t_Tick);
                t.Start();
            bool one;
            void t_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
                Image img;
                if (one) img = imageList1.Images[0];
                else img = imageList1.Images[1];
                one = !one;
                pictureBox1.Image = img;

    Since it seems like you have it working for 2 images then expanding it to any # of images is straightforward. It looks like you're trying to animate the spinning wheel on the slot machine so that is the basis I'm working against.  I'm also assuming
    you want to stick with the image list but there are other approaches as well.
    Firstly make sure your images are all in the image list. Next I would recommend that you move the timer start logic out of your constructor.  You don't want it running when the form is created because it hasn't even been displayed yet.  If you
    want the spinning to start as soon as the form is displayed then override the OnLoad and start the timer at that point.  I would recommend that you move this functionality into a separate method because you'll probably want to be able to spin the wheels
    by clicking a button as well.
    Since you're using an image list you'll need to keep track of the "current" image.  To do that a simple image index field should be fine.  Each time the timer fires you increment the index by 1.  If it gets to the end of the list
    (>= count) then reset it to 0.  Then set the PictureBox image to the image at that index.  This gives you the wrapping logic you want.  It won't give you a smooth transition image though, each image will basically just pop up.
    If you want a smooth transition then you might need to look at using a single image with images on it and the timer is simply having the window viewport move "down" the image in a scrolling fashion.  When it gets to the bottom it loops back
    around.  For that kind of implementation a PictureBox is probably not a good idea, you'll want to use a simple custom control that handles its own painting instead.
    Since you'll need to do this 3 times (one for each window) you might consider moving the logic into a custom control that represents a single window, the timer logic, image selection and image list.  You can then use 3 instances on your form to emulate
    the slot machine.  Note that you'll want to add some randomness to the spinning because if each window spins at the same speed you'll always get the same behavior.  Therefore you should probably have each window randomly decide how long and how fast
    to spin to introduce randomness to the spinning.

    For example, with images of size (sizeX, sizeY), you can use this class like this :
    ImageButton button = new ImageButton("Name","Image1.gif","Image2.gif");
    button.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(sizeX,sizeY));
    button.setActionCommand("action");
    button.addActionListener(this);

  • Workin' with images

    Ok, Good afternoon... I was wonder, when I used a loadmovie
    for loading a file JPG, It saves into computer (on *temp files)? I
    mean, I'm working with some pics, but they are the result of many
    years of investigations... my clients don't want people can stole
    that images by Internet... I thought flash is able to do it... but
    I'm not complete sure, my question:
    is flash safe for working with images?, are they going to be
    safe on Temp files when I load the website?, is there a posibility
    for blocking the printscreen button?
    Hoope you can understand my idea and you can help me

    This has been discussed for years and the short answer is -
    whatever is being displayed on your
    screen, no matter how it gets there, can simply be grabbed
    via a screenshot using the Prnt Scrn key
    or any of the various screen grab utilities available.

  • Beta available for older Mac's ?

    I see there is a Safari for those who have Windows, but those who have the older Macs are unable to update to the newest Safari?
    Why is this?
    And is there a free beta release for those with an older mac ?

    Sad that this is the case, and it doesn't explain the "why" of it... but perhaps it is like many things in life, where we have to wait until we get to Heaven to understand the difficult questions in life. haha
    Anyhow... I suppose I will live... or just use Firefox.
    Have a wonderful week!

  • Where Can we Download the "old" speedgrade ... so we can give better feedback for integration?

    Where can we download the "old" speedgrade, so we can give better feedback for integration with aftereffects and premiere.   I haven't used speedgrade, but I'm assuming it's like Davinci Resolve ... color grading is something you have to play around with a bit, to give decent feedback on integration.  On one extreme, I like the ease of aftereffect composites.  On the other hand, using graph operators (such as in Resolve and things like blender) ... is real nice ... but it's really not how i do work on the adobe side.   I'm looking for a color grading approach that isn't for tier 1 film, but more for tier 2, independant and/or corporate work.   I'd also love the ability to mix special effect compositing (like I currently do with AE), with coloring (which I currently have to do in in another program).   I also have two work streams I would like to test, one RED and another 1080p for normal corporate stuff (which i currently don't color grade btw).
    Anyway, I see some wierd links on downloading the old speedgrade, I don't see any download links on the speedgrade web page ... would be nice to see what the old speed grade does so I can comment competently.

    Adobe SpeedGrade CS6 is at the door, official preview will be held at NAB, I'm currently testing a preview version of SG CS6 and I want to say that it works very well, so stay tuned on the Adobe website.
    I tried to "stay tuned",  here on this Adobe Website ...and your post is the first confirmation that Adobe Speedgrade still has any sign of a beating heart.
    Totally dissapointed in Adobe for lack of SG communication to keep my interest up.
    Regardless of that, I am looking forward to seeing it.
    EDIT:
    Speedgrade In CS6...brilliant to see it is now "a reality" ...and so excited and looking forward to checking it out.
