Better sound with 1.1.1.?
Did Apple changed the sound characteristics with this new version 1.1.1.
as in better with more dynamic range.
Because I heard they did...
iMac intel 20" Mac OS X (10.4.5)
The sound quality was not improved. What was added was a selection on your IPOD to limit the amount of volume that your IPOD can put out to your headset. This user adjustable limitation was added to help those that have a tendency to turn the IPOD too loud and thus cause hearing damage.
Apple did this to avoid potential lawsuits in the future over people suing Apple because their IPODs caused them to have hearing loss. This is just one more step that Apple did to try to convince courts that they are doing all they can possibly do to protect its users from themselves.

Hi Guys, I want to buy some mini portable speakers for my iPad 2 so I can watch movies with better sound. Any ideas in what ones to buy?
Here's the one I love, the Altec Lansing iM 237. Don't be put off by the small size or cheap price. I have two, one for home and one for my studio/travel.

Best Bit Rate for Better sound
I’m new to the iTunes/iPod thing. A friend told me that he re-sets the bit rate from the default of 128 kpbs to the top of 320 kbps for better quality. [He plays everything off of his computer which is wired to speakers throughout his house and does not travel or drive much so hardly uses his iPod.] I played around a tad with the various rates on the same album and found that a fairly short one used 34.9 MB at 128 kbps, 52.1 MB at 192 kbps, 60.8 MB at 224 kbps and 86.6 MB at 340 kbps. Another friend told me that he noticed a big difference when he played a song off his iPod through his several thousand dollar system if it was imported at 128 kbps. While hard disc space is cheap and I would simply opt for the higher quality setting, the iPods are not so big when one almost triples the file size.
I tried to figure out what the max bit rates in the CDs are so that could guide the max import rate, but I could not and that question may make no sense at all anyway.
What is the max that a human can notice the difference at and what have folks found to be the best balance between sound quality and storage space?
Thanks for your help.
PC Windows XPMonty, this is really going to be up to your ears to decide. All I can tell you is my experience during the 2+ years of owning an iPod. I initially thought AAC @ 128 was satisfactory. I then started experimenting with various bitrates, but kept the AAC format. I decided that 192 was a discernible improvement over the 128. Not to go into a lot of detail, but I, quite by accident, had one album download at 256 & thought, "Wow, this is unbelievably better sound, even over inexpensive computer speakers." At that point, I started importing everything in AAC @ 256 VBR which I feel is pretty darn close to CD quality sound. I have a 60GB iPod that I'm willing to sacrifice some capacity in order to ensure the best audio quality I can. This is also why I do not buy frequently from the iTunes store as I do not feel the 128 downloads are the best quality. I buy & my own CD's, now, to insure good quality. I will by the occasional song from the store when I do not care to buy the whole CD. Hope this helps!

Just bought a new Samsung 65 LED HDTV. I am somwhat hearing impaired. Tried to use the setting "clear listening" and the "amplified" sound settings under tools. Best I can determine, I can't have both at once. Also, didn't find a place where I hit "apply" or something like that. Couldn't hear any difference in either setting, if I was actually getting to them. Am I missing something here? Also, thought I might improve the sound with added speakers. I'm considering the HW-D450 TV speakers. Don't find in the directions with TV how to do this. I see only a couple of USB ports and a cable connection. Don't see too well either so don't find anything like "audio out". Would these speakers make for better sound and will they plug into my new TV?

Better Integration with Audition
I'd like to see better integration with Audition. How about being able to use Place to open a sound clip and place it in a multitrack session? Just like when using InDesign, the cursor would change to show a "loaded" state and the clip would be inserted wherever I place my cursor.
Maybe it will be seen, maybe it won't. The only way to be sure your suggestion is received by the Motion development team is to use the FEEDBACK section in the Motion menu.
Menu Bar>Motion>Provide Motion Feedback. When the webpage opens, select Motion from the software list.
Of course, you need to be connected to the internet.
Good luck.

Dont use CMSS 3D Sound with reg 2.1 speake
Hey everyone i've been tryin to get the best sound with my x-fi music. Now i've been reading on the creative site that CMSS 3D is used for makin the sound come through multiple speakers so it makes it sound like its all around you. But thing is i only have 2 speakers so whast the point, i should turn this option off and maybe turn it on when i use headphone or upgrade to 5. correct?
This is a real necro, but I think today we have better "understanding" what CMSS does.
With external, non-headphone 2.0/2. speakers the CMSS-3D is in "CMSS-3D Virtual" -mode. It's like CMSS-3D Headphones mode, it tries to give surround sound from 5. (or whatever surround signal) and play some of the information through 2.0/2. speakers.
This is near impossiblef feat, but by modifying some of the sound signal coming from the 2.0 speakers it may give information about rearward sounds and other spatial effects. It's still something you can use if you are listening to surround source, but only have 2.0 speakers. It for example allows to listen to Dolby Digital 5. track from a DVD even when you have only 2 speakers.
When you have 2.0 source and surround speaker set (5./7.) then CMSS-3D is different mode, and yet another mode is CMSS-3D Headphones and surround source. The mixing can be up or downmixing: 2.0->5. (real) or 5.(source)->2.0 headphones/speakers mapping. And different combinations of this.
Recommended setting is what pleases you. I personallly use CMSS-3D Headphones for gaming (if using headphones) and I use CMSS-3D (5.) Stereo Expand on when watching TV. For 2.0 music I may use Expand or Surround, or have it off, depending. For movies I use 5. direct, no modify.
But (almost) always have the sound card speakers set what you have for real. -
Is there a solution to getting sounds with safari notifications?
Hi,
I noticed that I didn't get sounds with Safari notifications, even after checking the settings.
So, I took it to the 'Genius' bar, and they said it was a know issue with OS 10.3. It will be sorted with OS 10.4.
Well, I have just updated to 10.4, and no joy!
Why? I have selected a suitable sound in sound preferences.
I have selected 'Alerts' in the nofications preferences for safari.
I have ticked the play sounds box.
Why doesn't this work?
Thanks
JeremyRight, I've done a restore and ejected the phone. Now it's giving me only two options: either set up as a new phone, or restore from iTunes backup (I don't use Cloud). It's not giving me a sync option so I guess I'll have to restore, unless anyone has any better suggestions?

No sound with .avi in QT
Because I'm having the same problem, I've seen lots of posts on the issue of not having sound when playing some .avi files in QT (Pro) 7.0.4. I got Pro to be able to convert movies to the iPod video format and was REALLY frustrated and upset that it didn't work. Apple should really work on this version to allow it to play mp3 sound with variable bit rates (which I think is what another post said was causing the problem). If WMP can figure it out, Apple should or else they're just losing their edge (totally saying this to try to get some Apple person angry enough to fix it). In any case, I tried a bunch of different things and nothing worked. VideoDub won't work because for some reason the Video for Windows codec I downloaded and installed isn't being recognized. I also downloaded a trial version of a converter created specifically for this purpose(made by Cucusoft), but I keep getting error messages and installing their codecs doesn't help. Right now I'm trying the Videora iPod Converter and so far (fingers crossed, knock on wood) everything is going ok--certainly better than any other attempts. And the best thing? It's FREE.
The URL is: http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
If anyone has any way to make it work in QT 7.0.4, I'd rather use it as I paid for it and it's more integrated with iTunes which probably means it would be easier to use in the long run. Otherwise, hopefully Apple will get on this ASAP.

I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it. Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there. The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple. They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one. From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate. And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one. Try a new one. Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port. -
My iPad does not have sound when on the Internet, including YouTube, but does have sound with iTunes and other apps. How can I correct this?
If you are sure that you have sound in other apps - and if you can still hear keyboard clicks and get notifications, then system sounds are not muted. Try this and see if it works.
Close all apps completely and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
[SOLVED]No Sound with ALSA - Intel Corporation 82801G HD Audio
Hey all,
I've succesfully installed Arch Linux. My past two attempts have met with failure, all because of my own failure to read and follow directions correctly. This time everything is installed correctly. I am running Kdemod3 on my laptop with Arch and everything works great. I LOVE Pacman and the simplicity of Arch's configuration files. It's super fast and all together simple. My only remaining problem is this:
My sound with ALSA is not functioning. I followed the installation instructions at the arch wiki and after unmuting all of my channels I still would not get any sound. My sound module is snd_hda_intel and it is detected, loaded and the whole nine yards (as far as I can tell). My user is a member of the 'audio' user group also. I looked at the troubleshooting tips on the bottom of the Wiki but decided not to try them as they do not seem to pertain to my card (snd_hda_intel) but I will try them if anyone would like me to.
If anyone has any ideas, they'd be greatly appreciated!:D Anything I can provide that you need I will be more than willing to provide.
Thanks for such a great distribution,
Dan

[SOLVED] No sound (with flash)
Hello.
I have no sound with flash. It does work elsewhere.
I am using ALSA.
My flash should output audio correctly according to wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fl … d_in_Flash
# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC889 Analog [ALC889 Analog]

card 1: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]

EDIT: I'm retarded. I didn't add my user to audio group. And sound elsewhere was from speaker-test which needs SU.

Orrrr it's because the flash plugin uses OSS.
run `aoss firefox` and be happy.
OSS does still work or at least the alsa backwards compatibility layer that emulates the old interfaces, right? did i miss anything?
for newer versions of flash (like version 9) simply install firefox in wine and let it install the plugin. that usually works great! -
NO SOUND with iMAC 24 - Please help
I have tried everything.........searched for drivers, everything, installed boot camp drivers from the CD numerous times.........I can't get rid of the ?pci device that shows up in the device manager. I am using windows xp sp3. The ? still shows up in the device list and I have no sound............everything else is perfect and great, but can't get sound!!!!!!!! I tried to update driver from realtek and sigmatel from the location on the hard drive and CD and no help. I DLed new drivers from realtek, no help..............does anyone know??????????
For those that are interested, this DOES work, as I have just tried this using SP3...........this is from another forum:
http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=490
Basicly, download the file at the bottom of the page, unzip, go to Device Manager, right click the yellow (?) PCI driver, mark to select your own location and direct it to where you unzipped your file. That's it. UAA driver should be found and you should be able to hear sound.
If not yet, try now to re-install your audio drivers, and it should work. (if on mac, that means re-install boot camp drivers).
When doing the above, if it asks about a missing file, then point to where you just unzipped everything, it should be there, as it was for me. And, finally, in device manager, I still had one more issue for "audio device on high definition BUS" AFTER i corrected the PCI. To fix this, in device manager, I simply selected UPDATE DRIVER and use the MAC CD (or BOOTCAMP) and reinstalled the drivers and all worked fine after...................
I now have sound with my IMAC 24in and Windows XP SP3 (yes, i don't want to use much of XP at all, but it's nice to have............
Enjoy and let me know if this works or if you have issues, I would love to actually try and help...........
