Better sound

Just bought a new Samsung 65 LED HDTV.  I am somwhat hearing impaired.  Tried to use the setting "clear listening" and the "amplified" sound settings under tools.  Best I can determine, I can't have both at once.  Also, didn't find a place where I hit "apply" or something like that.  Couldn't hear any difference in either setting, if I was actually getting to them.  Am I missing something here?  Also, thought I might improve the sound with added speakers.  I'm considering the HW-D450 TV speakers.  Don't find in the directions with TV how to do this.  I see only a couple of USB ports and a cable connection.  Don't see too well either so don't find anything like "audio out".  Would these speakers make for better sound and will they plug into my new TV?

Have you thought about wireless headphones?

  • Best Bit Rate for Better sound

I’m new to the iTunes/iPod thing. A friend told me that he re-sets the bit rate from the default of 128 kpbs to the top of 320 kbps for better quality. [He plays everything off of his computer which is wired to speakers throughout his house and does not travel or drive much so hardly uses his iPod.] I played around a tad with the various rates on the same album and found that a fairly short one used 34.9 MB at 128 kbps, 52.1 MB at 192 kbps, 60.8 MB at 224 kbps and 86.6 MB at 340 kbps. Another friend told me that he noticed a big difference when he played a song off his iPod through his several thousand dollar system if it was imported at 128 kbps. While hard disc space is cheap and I would simply opt for the higher quality setting, the iPods are not so big when one almost triples the file size.
I tried to figure out what the max bit rates in the CDs are so that could guide the max import rate, but I could not and that question may make no sense at all anyway.
What is the max that a human can notice the difference at and what have folks found to be the best balance between sound quality and storage space?
    Thanks for your help.

Monty, this is really going to be up to your ears to decide. All I can tell you is my experience during the 2+ years of owning an iPod. I initially thought AAC @ 128 was satisfactory. I then started experimenting with various bitrates, but kept the AAC format. I decided that 192 was a discernible improvement over the 128. Not to go into a lot of detail, but I, quite by accident, had one album download at 256 & thought, "Wow, this is unbelievably better sound, even over inexpensive computer speakers." At that point, I started importing everything in AAC @ 256 VBR which I feel is pretty darn close to CD quality sound. I have a 60GB iPod that I'm willing to sacrifice some capacity in order to ensure the best audio quality I can. This is also why I do not buy frequently from the iTunes store as I do not feel the 128 downloads are the best quality. I buy & my own CD's, now, to insure good quality. I will by the occasional song from the store when I do not care to buy the whole CD. Hope this helps!

Here's the one I love, the Altec Lansing iM 237. Don't be put off by the small size or cheap price. I have two, one for home and one for my studio/travel.

  • Getting a Better Sound System

    Hello
I wasn't sure where to post this question?
(I already posted it on iTunes - sorry didn't know how to remove it from there)
I'm looking for a decent sound system
    (computer speakers and sub)
*Good enough for monitoring music for recording - I hear that Klipsch makes a nice system.
The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX looks nice for the money - but I hear that it doesn't have a separate Bass & Treble control? Is that true?
    http://www.laaudiofile.com/pm21.html
    http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=924
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanx
    Mike

Can someone comment on my query?
I currently have my G5 Desktop connected to an Altec Lansing system Model 61SB:

You guys think that the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX is a better sounding system?

Perhpas a little more volume than the 61SB Altec?

  • Realtek vs. Via Vinyl, which is better sound quality

I downloaded the Via Vinyl Codec in an attempt to fix the Internet noise sound talked about in this https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=75995.0 post and all is well since.  Tiresmoke, or anyone else using Via Vinyl, what do you think of the sound quality.  I think there seems to be a little less bass response, nothing major, but a little different.  Also, the EQ is set up a little different.  What is your take on it?  Can you think of a reason why MSI went with Realtek on Sound if Via has their own solution built into the southbridge?  It is widely held as better quality?  Also, what about the actual realtek audio chip on the motherboard?  What is it doing if you are using Vinyl besides collecting dust?  Any idea on which uses more CPU time?  I know this is a lot of questions, but I'm curious.

Thanks for the reply Tiresmoke.  I guess no one else is giving the Via Vinyl a shot.  Given that the Realtek is a separate add-in solution on the motherboard, one would think it would be better to warrant its existence.  However, in this crazy silicon world, who knows.

  • Which has better sound - DVD or highest setting Quicktime?

Hi (I hope this question did not go through twice) -- I will be engaging in performances where I'll be streaming video and sound from my laptop... my quesiton is - which is better DVD or highest quality Quicktime? - for sound and vid... and by what degree? -- thanks.

I'll have to say for me it's a tie between my iPhone 3GS and 120 GB (6th gen) iPod Classic. The sound using the Apple in-ear headphones is awesome on those two models. I can't explain why, but that's my observation-there's a marked improvement with those two compared to Nano and older iPod Classic models.

  • What is better sound quality headset MH 710 ot MH700

If you look on Amazon UK, these headsets are very similar in terms of both specs and price (£13-£15), and both have excellent reviews, so judging from that , I would say that they both have very good sound quality, so I don't think you will find any discernible difference between them.

  • Better sound with 1.1.1.?

Did Apple changed the sound characteristics with this new version 1.1.1.
as in better with more dynamic range.
    Because I heard they did...
    iMac intel 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The sound quality was not improved. What was added was a selection on your IPOD to limit the amount of volume that your IPOD can put out to your headset. This user adjustable limitation was added to help those that have a tendency to turn the IPOD too loud and thus cause hearing damage.
Apple did this to avoid potential lawsuits in the future over people suing Apple because their IPODs caused them to have hearing loss. This is just one more step that Apple did to try to convince courts that they are doing all they can possibly do to protect its users from themselves.

  • Better sound quality since 1.1.2 update

Did apple improve the sound quality of the Touch? I don't know if its just me, but man, my ipodTouch sure sounds a heck of a lot better, a lot, a lot better. The sound seems to have opened up.

Did you also notice the "world" button on the keypad pop-ups? Right next to the space key. Clicking it shows what language your keyboard layout is currently. I think that's a 1.1.2 add, too. Unfortunately, they also introduced a bug in the widescreen (landscape) orientation of the keypad in Safari. The button that toggles between alpha and numeric keypad no longer indicates which of the two is currently displayed. It remains on the numeric toggle (showing "123", even when alpha keypad is up). Nice!

  • Messages Beta Sounds

Earlier today I noticed, at random intervals, the sound for removing icons from the Dock being played on my new MacBook Air. I just managed to narrow it down to the Messages Beta. Whenever it's open, the sound is just played randomly, sometimes twice or three times in a row quickly, sometimes minutes apart. I'm fairly certain that it's nothing to do with actually recieving messages or anything, the normal message sounds play correctly.

    Hi,
Actually your description of what you had checked out and what it sounded like made it easier to pin down.
I wish many others had taken as much time to get as far as they could like that.
Most of the times it is a question of chunking up a bit of knowledge from one app and seeing if it applies somewhere else.
Due to the fairly standard way most apps work most things apply.
    Notes
iChat can play the sounds from itself (hidden in the App but accessible), the System Folder (All the ones that appear in System Preferences > Sound > Sound Affects list) plus any that you have (in the right format) in your Home Folder/Library/Sounds.
To access your Home Folder/Library you need to use the Finder > Go Menu and hold down the ALT key then select the Library at appears.
The sounds you put in the Sounds folder tend to be better for iChat if they are .aiff files at the 44100 sample rate.

  • What do I need to get better sound from my Mac mini

The sound from my external speakers is very poor. I am hard of hearing(50% in one ear) and I find it very difficult to follow a conversation etc.
I am now on Yosemite, and the speakers have been used on all my previous  pc's successfully. I cannot find a control for the built-in audio, does one exist?

What do you mean by poor sound?
The Sound is controlled by System Preferences>Sounds>Output

  • T520 Beta Sound Driver doesn't support multi stream output with docking station

I always used (and loved) the ability to use the laptop speakers and the headphone jack as independend outputs. For Windows 8 it doesn't work. Neither Win8 beta driver nor the latest Win7 driver brings this feature to Win8.
The option for Multistream is still selectable in SmartAudio. Selecting this option makes Win8 installing some things but doesn't actually make MultiStream work
Hope this is just because of the drivers beta stage...

The new audio driver for windows8 brings back the multi stream output. It also fixes the crash on selecting VoIP-Settings in SmartAudio application Driver is here.

  • Which has better sound?

    Hi,
So I have had the N96 from the very beginning and till now I have nothing to complain except the fact that I am still on FW 12!!! (my code is 0573802).  Some help would not hurt
Now my real concern about this thread is that I am thinking of changing to an N97 due to the fact that I would like to have a touchscreen and also the qwery keyboard is a cool feature!! But I would like to know the N97 sound quality compared to the N96.  I need to have good sound quality.
Anyhelp would be appreciated in all cases.
    Thank you.

Contact CPW and ask them for written permission to install generic firmware onto your phone. With that written permission, visit your nearest Nokia Care Point, where they will do the necessary and you'll be able to walk out of there with V30 on your phone. You'll also be able to update sooner when Nokia release new firmware versions.
What does this have to do with this thread?

Perhaps the answer is "no one knows" but I was wondering if anyone had either any personally perceived differences or (ii) a resource they could reference that actually gave test results.
