Bevel.asl file

My Bevels.asl file got corrupted and I need a new one. When I try reinstalling the PS Elements 6 it to restore the file, it hangs and keeps asking for Disk 1 to be placed in the drive. It's already in the drive! Can someone just send me the bevels.asl file so I can get back to using the software?
Thanks

You can't do a repair install for PSE. Do a full uninstall/reinstall and you'll get all shiny new files.

Down loaded fx .asl files, moved them to the Styles fill but I can't get them to open by any path. New brushes, gradients and patterns, all fine.

Hi Gwena,<br /><br />In case of layer styles (unlike brushes) you need to add metadata corresponding to the .asl file you are trying to add.<br /><br />Close PSE6 if opened.<br />Now add your .asl file for style in <system>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/6.0/Locale/en_US/Photo Creations/Layer Styles/<br /><br />Now you need to add metadata for the asl file you just added. For this, you need to goto <system>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/6.0/Locale/en_US/Photo Creations Metadata/Layer Styles/<br />Copy paste an existing xml file there(say 'Bevels.xml'). Now open the xml file you just created using Notepad. You will see two places where layer stle name is listed: 'CatBevels' and 'Bevels'. Replace 'Bevels' with the name of your style using exactly the same word structure. For example : 'CatNewStyle' and 'New Style'<br />Save the changes.<br /><br />Now you need to rebuild the MediaDatabase. To do so, goto <system>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/6.0/Locale/en_US and rename MediaDatabase.db3 to MediaDatabaseOLD.db3<br />Restart PSE6. It will take some time to open as it builds new Contents and Effects.<br /><br />You can find the new style listed with the PSE's default style in Effect pallet now.

  • Adobe Style Layer (ASL) file structure

Hello. I'm curious if there a way to get the description of ASL-file. I would like to know it's structure: file-header, data-types...
ASL-files are for layer styling. You can add bevel, shadow, glow, stroke, etc. to the layer and save the settings as a style preset, which then can be stored on a hard-drive as a ASL-file.
Is there any documentation on this topic?

It's a descriptor list, similar to actions files.
The actions format is described in the SDK, but it's a non-trivial format.

  • Help with asl files (Apple Script Logs)

I went through my hard drive recently using a program called GrandPerspective.  It showed me that i had this huge chunk of files thats taking up almost a quarter of my 232 GB hard drive.
I did some google searching and found out that they are logs of what the computer did that day.   Because most of the threads were from 2005-2009, I wasn't sure if that information was outdated or not.
So my main question is this.  Can I delete these asl files without doing harm to my MacBook?
If you need more info to answerer this, please ask! Thanks in advance!

  • How to read .asl files?

I'm working on an iMac, OS 10.5.8. My log folder is full of asl files. I'm not a program-savvy person and need plain language. I've gotten as far as to put the many log files into a temp folder on my desktop. Now I see instructions to "read them at my leisure" but can't find out how to read these files to determine what's causing the rapid multiplication. How do I "read" these logs to determine where the problem lies?

-Correction, in your Log folder, under Private/var/log/asl ; asl files are not associated with photoshop, they are Apple System Logs.
-I also have runaway (asl) files on my 10.5.8 Imac. Some are 80 gig +/-. and it fills my hard-drive. I got a program called Disk Inventory X that helped me graphically find these huge files. That way I can see them, right click on them and reveal them in a finder screen.
-After locating the offending files, if you right click the .asl file and say open with the utility "console" you can view the logs.
-Look for lines that repeat ludicrous times, then try to figure it out.
-I am no expert, but apparently I just found out my problem might be apple.launchd keeps trying to contact com.rim.BBLaunchAgent. I haven't owned a Blackberry for a few years now and already uninstalled their Desktop Manager, but some program remnant seems to be haunting my computer.
-If I determine the asl file(s) are unimportant, I delete them after entering my password. You have to then empty your trash to really free up hard-drive space.
    -Good luck with your hunt.

  • ASL files be eating muh shiz

    Hi everyone,
I got this problem that seems to keep wanting to bug me.
I've always had these problems where my HD seems to start eating it's own disk space for no apparent reason. And then it rectifies itself, again, with no readily obvious reason.
I've been advised to check the console and find any errant log files, but nothing seems to leap out at me as anything I should worry about.
Anyway, it seems this time around I have these .asl files that keep appearing in my /private/var/log/asl folder. what are these and can they be deleted? I understand that I should not be playing around with things in my private area(!) but these files seem to have no discernible purpose or source.
Any other tips on helping reclaim HD space would be great too!
    cheers XD

Do you have Norton AntiVirus installed? Lots of reports of issues there, including huge block of disk space going walkabout.
Activity Monitor, (AM) in Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities, may help you spot a process that is writing logs excessively. For it to work, you have to make minor changes to the way AM displays. By default, it displays "My Processes" in a pull-down in the upper part of the window. Change this to "All Processes" to get the big picture. In the columns, highlight the column header "%CPU" to sort by how much of the CPU any given process is using.
Use the computer normally for a while, then shut down any apps you have used so the computer is at idle, running only the background stuff you can't control. Then relaunch AM and see if any single process is using over 10 percent of the "%CPU. Note the names of the guilty process and post it/them here and we can make suggestions.
I used AM like this to find that a game demo was causing the system logger to continually write, ballooning the log file for its usually size of ~250k to over 60MB. It wasn't so much the disk space that was missing but the time it took the logger to update and save that size file. It dragged my MBP to a crawl even when the game demo was not running.

  • How to get permission to save the Bevels.ai file

I'm trying to create a 3d pyramid and I was following this link tutorial:  Create a Pyramid in Adobe Illustrator CS3 « Layers Magazine.  I was able to find the Bevels.ai file and create the 45-degree line symbol.  Then I got to the point where I had to save the document.  When I did File>Save, the following message came up: Can't save the illustration.  The file may be read-only, or the file is in use by another application, or you don't have the required permissions.  Please save the document with a different name, or in a different folder, or directory.  -54.  I checked the file to see if it was a read-only by right-clicking on the file, choosing Properties, General.  The read-only part wasn't checked and I know the file wasn't open in another application.  The only other option is that I don't have the permission to save the document.  Does anyone know how I can get the permission to save the document?  Thank you.

Fix your computer's user permissions, check your network connection, turn off virus scanners etc.. This has nothing to do with AI per se, some external process is making AI "lose" the connection to the original file and it gets locked.

  • How to access .asl file in PSE 13 from old PSE 10?

Can’t access .asl files I had used with PSE10 in PSE 13.  Computer: Mac OS 10.10.1  with PSE 13
    What I have done:
1- .ASL files from PSE 10 were copied to PSE 13:  Mac HD> applications > PSE13 > Support files  > Presets > styles
2- Closed PSE 13 and opened again
3-  Tried to add styles with Preset Manager. Message is  “Sorry that style set has already been loaded”
4- The only styles I can access are from the Effect/Styles panel and only the ones that came with PSE13, not my old .asl files I had been using with PSE10.

finally found the answer here:  How to Load Layer Styles in Photoshop Elements | theStudio | Digital Scrapbooking Studio

  • Massive asl files being generated daily?

I have asl files showing up multiple times per day that are GB in size. I have read through forums and tried to stop the process via Terminal, but the files continue to pile up. My computer is running extremely slow and hot due to nearly 100% CPU in use. Please someone help! I'm about to resort to a new computer...this one is basically worthless the way it is now. I'm running 10.5.8.

    Hi Reinhardt,
I am not sure please give it a try, Auto Syndication Task Delay (seconds) Integer.  Default is 0. Check if it helps..
Set it to 0 if you have set any other parameter, see Figure 87. The MDSS-specific Report Detail pane page 279/403

It may be also possible because of Bug, let's have input from others if it works else i would suggest to raise an OSS Note to SAP

  • PSE 12- Loading ASL files

Just got PSE 12, I have added mutliple brushes without difficulty. But I can not get the ASL files I want to add to show up. I have loaded them into the correct folder in presets but they are not showing when I open 12. Any help?

You're making life harder than it has to be. Go to the Effects panel and click the Styles tab to be sure it's active, then click the four-lined square on the right and choose Load Styles.

  • Can you edit asl files?

Is there a way to easily edit .asl log files? Obviously, one can guess at it by viewing the binary in vi or other editor, but is there a cleaner way?

  • Where do I install a new asl file in elements 10?

I have a set of asl files that I am trying to install in elements 10 and cannot figure out where to install them (or how).
    Any answers would be appreciated.

If the reboot doesn't do it, try deleting the file MediaDatabase.d3.
In Windows 7/Vista, go to C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Locale\en_US (this path is different if you aren’t in the United States), and delete MediaDatabase.db3 to refresh the list of presets. In XP, it’s in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\ Locale\en_us (or your location). In Mac OS X, it’s [your hard drive]>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>10.0 >Locale> en_US (or your location). The next time you start the editor don't do anything till the thumbnails reappear in the panels.

Is that the actual kernel message or did you add the  question marks?
Either way, it does not say much.
The aslmanager is just printing those kernel errors.
The cause of them is the key.
Try disconnecting all peripheral devices attached to your Mac,  just to see if any one device is causing it.
If it still persists, boot up in Safemode to see if that stops it.
    Starting up in Safe Mode
What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)
After a restart does it return to normal?
If not I'd run an Apple Hardware test.
To do this, on your MacBook hold down the D key on startup.
