Bevels.ai, where is it?

I am using illustrator CS5 and I want to create a custom bevel for use with illustrator's 3d tools, but the file, bevels.ai, which is mentioned mentioned in this help document is no where to be found on my computer. The folder in which it is supposed to be found "required" isn't there either. I know I didn't delete these files, and I don't want to reinstall illustrator just to be able to access bevels.ai, especially when I doubt that that will solve the problem. Actually, it seems the file or some equivelent one must be somewhere in my system or the bevels in the 3d tool wouldn't work at all. Can someone tell me what is going on, and what I can do to solve this problem? Also, other illustrator CS5 users, do you have this file, and is it where it is supposed to be (Adobe Illustrator CS5\Support Files\Required\Resources\en_US\ folder (Windows) or Adobe Illustrator CS5\Required\Resources\en_US folder ((Mac OS)?
Thanks,
Melissa

Mine in CS4 are in the Package (MacOS). Highlight the app file in the AICS* folder and right-(Ctrl)-click and Show Package Contents. In the Required folder, click Resources, click en_US and it should be there.

  • Where can I find the integrated webcam for my HP G62t-350 Notebook PC?

Just like the title asks, where can I find the integrated webcam for my HP G62t-350 Notebook PC? I have what looks like a rectangle in the top center of the screen/lid, in the bevel, but I'm not sure of how to get it to work, or if it's even able to work! I've seen pics of where there is a gray circle or dot in the middle of that rectangle, but I'm not able to see if I have one or not. Would someone please help me out here?

Click on start button under all programs in search box type in web cam. List will show above if it is installed you will see it. Other wise you need to purchased a web cam. This is how I found excess to my web cam on HP dv7 6135dx.

  • Multiple Corner Types (Miter, bevel, round) in one path

I'd like to be able to have multiple types of corners within one path.
I'd like to have a path where the first point is a bevel corner type, the second point is a miter corner and the third is a bevel again. Of course switching between any corner type within a path would be ideal.
is there a way to achieve this within one path, or do I need to expand the path and 'fake' it every time.
    Example:
The image above shoes a path with the 'Miter' corner type applied. I would like, without making two paths, for the top two points to be beveled while the bottom point remains mitered, like so: (faked)
Please let me know if this makes absolutely no sense
    Thanks!

  • Effect 3D Extrude&Bevel

    hello everyone
where can i found this menu ? Effect>3D>Extrude&Bevel
it's a step of many 3D tutorials but i cannot find it in PS menus

I have used the Extrude & Bevel command in Photoshop before, but now I cannot locate it.  I know that it is in Illustrator--I don't want to use Illustrator for this; I want to find this command that's been moved or renamed in Photoshop.  Can someone help me understand what it is called now and where I may find it in Photoshop CS4, please?
    Thanks!

  • Bevel *still* misbehaving

Last time I had this problem, a friendly forumgoer suggested tweaking the perspective slider in the extrude-and-bevel dialog, and that fixed the problem. This time, that's not helping. I've drawn a path to represent a collection-arrow, then applied extrude-and-bevel. There are minor shading errors in the top-left and top-right corners, and major errors in the pointy-part at the bottom-middle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just don't know how to do good work when basic features like bevel are so unreliable.
Screen capture is below, original .ai file is up on Google Drive here:

I'm not arguing the merits of "a good tool"
I'm stating that the Illustrator 3D effect can't do what you want it to do.
Illustrator DOES NOT use 3D modeling, hence the term "effect". It's all fake based on angles, not true modeling. If you want true modeling, where bevels are actually calculated at joints (which Illustrator does not do), then you need to use a true 3D application, not Illustrator.
The Illustrator 3D effect was added to version 10 or 11 or whatever it was and hasn't been touched by Adobe since. Regardless of any technological advanced, Adobe is painfully slow to update any feature. Look at Illustrator graphing tools, it's been what 30 years since they've been touched by Adobe.

  • 3d bevel and emboss, the other side Deboss

I am trying to make an edging on a coin/icon. I want it to look like the photo. How do I create a debossed look in Illustrator. Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, in AI's 3D Extrude & Bevel tool, negative numbers aren't allowed, so it can't produce a deboss. You could possibly emboss <around> your desired deboss areas, to "fake" a deboss. However ...
In general, Effect > 3D > Extrude & Bevel generates so many errors that I only use it in very limited situations, certainly not where there are many shapes around a full circle, like the edge texture of a coin. (I've sent a bug report to Adobe about this.)
Because of these limitations, I wouldn't use AI to do what you need, unless you're willing to illustrate everything manually. There are other tools that might be worth trying, such as Photoshop - its lighting effects can use a "texture map" from an alpha channel for depth, which might work better for you. Here's a quick'n'dirty example of that idea in Photoshop using lighting effects on a slightly blurred object from AI, on a channel:
This method also allows both emboss and deboss.
    Good luck.  :+)

  • How to get permission to save the Bevels.ai file

I'm trying to create a 3d pyramid and I was following this link tutorial:  Create a Pyramid in Adobe Illustrator CS3 « Layers Magazine.  I was able to find the Bevels.ai file and create the 45-degree line symbol.  Then I got to the point where I had to save the document.  When I did File>Save, the following message came up: Can't save the illustration.  The file may be read-only, or the file is in use by another application, or you don't have the required permissions.  Please save the document with a different name, or in a different folder, or directory.  -54.  I checked the file to see if it was a read-only by right-clicking on the file, choosing Properties, General.  The read-only part wasn't checked and I know the file wasn't open in another application.  The only other option is that I don't have the permission to save the document.  Does anyone know how I can get the permission to save the document?  Thank you.

Fix your computer's user permissions, check your network connection, turn off virus scanners etc.. This has nothing to do with AI per se, some external process is making AI "lose" the connection to the original file and it gets locked.

  • Bevel button and fuzzy type

I made a button and put a simple bevel filter on it.
When I added type to the button the text bleeds into the
filter. How can I stop/fix this?

Thanks for the reply Tom. After I posted the first time I went to the Finder, Get Info, and I saw that I could change the 'Opens with' to QuickTime and therefore it became a QuickTime file. About that Anamorphic business I read a 'how to' on dealing with images before bringing them into video. The tip says in the 'New' file dialogue box to choose 640x480 size and in the pull down menu at the bottom where you can choose the 'Pixel Aspect Ratio' it was suggest to use that Anamorphic setting. I did it but it certainly didn't look right but I went with it.
Again after I posted I looked at the Format of one of the clips and saw the size to be 720x480, Compressor is DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, Pixel Aspect is NTSC-CCIR 601, Anamorphic field is blank. I'm running Photoshop CS2. So I went back there and created a new blank file to use a template for dealing with stills but this time I used the Preset pull down menu and chose NTSC DV 720x480 with guides and the Pixel Aspect Ratio automatically loaded D1/DV NTSC (0.9), clicked Ok and viola, the blank file looks exactly like the Canvas in FCE. I haven't played with a still with this new setting but I will try it on the little project I'm working on.
As for viewing it, I am looking at it on my Mac flat screen. I went into QuickTime Preferences and checked the box for high quality, thank you. Thanks for reassuring me on the file size.
I also don't know what "D4/D16 Anamorphic" means.
I don't understand the fuzzy type. I'm aware these are 72 ppi files and video is not resolution dependent but rather pixel dependent. Computer monitors display at 72 ppi, televisions are higher. I have yet to complete the process of burning a DVD and playing it back on a TV. Maybe that's where I'll see the type showing up sharper.
At any rate, just dealing with this itty bitty project tells me I have a lot to learn about video, never mind learning about how to use FCE as well.

  • Applying live paint to extruded and beveled overlapping objects

I have a celtic design that has sections I want to overlap, but I have extruded and beveled it to make it look more realistically metallic.  I tried expanding its appearance before making live paint, but "live paint make" option remains faded out on the menu... what can I do to live paint this object without losing the 3d look of it?  If I outline the strokes first, and then make live paint... it loses all its extrusion and beveling.  HELP!

oooh  I figured out a way... it's a bit tedious, but it works!!!
I ungrouped, and put copies of two of the components I want to overlap on a new layer, in place...
then I make a clipping mask of the current overlapped areas...
this clipped mask then sits on top of the underlying section that was not layered right and now brings the bottom object to the top!
I now have to do this with every overlap where I want to bring the bottom object to the top... but it's worth it for the awesome effect!
Hope this helps someone else out!

  • Bevel effect stopping publishing correctly in Muse

Please help, I have tried dozens of fixes for days that I will list below.
The effect previously worked, but when I made recent changes to other items on the website, the effect no longer publishes correctly. It is for 3 rectangles in the heading and footer on the Master page. It works correctly on just one page, the "about" page, but not on all on the other pages, even though they all share the same master page.
It works correctly when I "Preview Page In Browser" and preview each page one at a time, it works on all pages.
When I "Preview Site In Browser" it only works on one page, the "about" page.
When I save to HTML it only works on the one page, the "about" page. Same when I publish online.
I have the most recent Muse updates, and the most recent OS X Yosemite updates, on a MacBook Pro Retina 2012. The site is www.vanriley.com, and the page that the master header and footer work correctly on is the "about" page.
Among the fixes I have tried:
rebuild the objects as new and republish; publish with the effect off and then on again; using Firefox instead of Safari; clearing all history and cookies rebuild and republish; download Java 8, stop the Creative Cloud on the monitor then re-sign in; create a new Sub-master-page without the objects and then assign the Sub page to all pages and publish then re-assign all pages back to the Master page and republish; re-start all programs and computer; I have confirmed on the master page that the heading items are all on same layer and the footer items are marked as footers (the objects appear on each page, just not the effect, the effect only appears on the one page).
    Thank You

Please provide the site link along with screenshots of design view and Muse preview where bevel effect is not rendering in live site.
    Thanks,

  • 3D Bevel and Extrude Effect acting weird

When I do Bevel & Extrude on a font, or object, or whatever...sometimes I get this...
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v611/rogval/AIScreenShot.jpg
And my settings are very low as you can see here...
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v611/rogval/AISettings.jpg
    So why does this happen?
    Thanks
    Roger

I'm sorry...you're right and I know better...I just forgot to put that bit in. It's CS3.
So I've made my text into outlines, and when I go to Object> Path> Offset Path, I get "Offset Path" window that comes up that has an "Offset" window where you can change the values, "Joins" which you can choose from Miter, Bevel, & Round, and then the "Miter Limit" and the "Preview" check box, which you can obviously toggle on and off. I've tried all different combinations, None of which give me anything like what the 3D effect did. The only thing I noticed was it basically will make a duplicate path either larger or smaller than your existing paths/shape, or whatever you want to call it. So I am assuming I am missing something here?
    Thanks

  • How can I remove artifacts when using 3D Extrude & Bevel?

    Hi All,
I don't have much experience in Illustrator, and I'm experiencing an issue with the 3D Extrude & Bevel effect. Namely, there are "artifacts" where the anchor points lie on the paths.
    Here's a sample:
You may need to zoom in on this image to see them, but there are thin white lines that bisect the extrusion where the anchor points lie. There are also abrupt changes in the appearance of the extrusion at these same points. These anomalies don't appear in Illustrator, and it's only when I convert to an image or PDF that they show up.
Is there any way to remove these artifacts using this effect? And if not, is there a different (better?) way to achieve the same effect?
Thanks in advance, and I'll be happy to provide more info if need be.
    Sam

    Hi Kurt,
I'm using version CS3. I'll be happy to provide the .ai file, but I'm not sure how to do it. I'm not seeing any options for adding an attachment. Please let me know how to go about doing it, and I'll follow up.
    Thanks,

  • Bevel seems buggy ... any ideas?

One of the reasons I'm interested in Illustrator over Inkscape is to get better control over extrude/bevel functionality. While Illustrator's extrude seems to work fine, the bevel part seems buggy, and usually produces mild to severe errors. As an example, I drew two simple polygon paths, and applied a small extrude/bevel to each (see image below). Both have modest errors.
When I applied extrude/bevel to the arrow, the dialog warned me of possible problems. And indeed, there's a place in the lower-left part of the arrow that should have some shading, but doesn't. When I applied the same effect to the triangle, there was no warning in the dialog, but there was again a part of the object that should have had some 3-D shading, but didn't. Generally, there seems to be a rough rule that the more complex the shape, the more likely you are to have severe errors.
For those who are curious, you can download the example .ai from Google Drive here:
    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0Hoxcl5zTEtc1NaeVJHc3dncTA/edit?usp=sharing
These errors shouldn't be happening. 3D technology is a mature field, so there aren't any technical hurdles, and Illustrator has been around a long time. The only explanation I can think of is that Adobe is either incompentent or apathetic.
So I have two questions for you all:
    1) Is there a good workaround? Some combination of other effects that will give the same result?
    2) I'm very disappointed in the quality of Illustrator. I'm nearing the end of my 30 day free trial, and having second thoughts about making the change. Illustrator has far more features than Inkscape, but many of the basic features seem buggy. What gives? Does Adobe pay attention to these fora? Is there a reasonable chance of a fix, or is this just the way things are?
    (Using Illustrator CS6, 16.0.3 64-bit on Win8-64 laptop)

I played around with the perspective setting. It also seems unstable. The first time I asked for 10 degrees on the arrow-shaped path, that original error persisted. As I moved the arrow around the screen, adjusting my layout so that I could fit three example arrows in my design, the error disappeared. At the same time, a new error appeared: along the top/left edge of the arrow (next to the green bar), there's a place where the shading on the arrow is discontinuous.
The image below shows the current result with 0, 10, 20 degrees perspective. The original error is gone from the 10 and 20 degree examples, but the discontinuous shading along the top/left is present in both.
Can we alert Adobe to these problems? I believe the bevel should just work right, regardless of the perspective setting. And it clearly doesn't. In these simple cases, the errors are minor, but when I tried to bevel some more complex shapes, the errors were often obvious and ugly.

There is no change to this problem after 6 months since the last post. Put simply, and as stated in the previous posts, there is no way to scan a document and receive the image on your PC. If you are working with graphics for any length of time or want to create an image for inclusion as an image in a document or web page using this piece of equipment will not allow you to do so.
Great shame as every other function works well - it cannot be beyond the wit of HP to include a Windows application that enables you to scan an image, receive it in the software you are using at the time (e.g. Outlook, Word, Photoshop...) and use it in your work.
HP Printers several years older than this £1000+ Enterprise printer were able to do this simple job and have done so for a great many years. Just being able to use Microsoft's Fax and Scan would be start.
