BEWARE Login PATCH for Leopard

I am so mad now.....
I had numerous problems doing a clean install on my mac pro. I have issues with this OS on my 2 daughters machines. THEN after I get to the point where I can live with this until a patch was released.... NOW I INSTALL THE PATCH ON MY DAUGHTERS MACHINE AND I AM STUCK IN AN ENDLESS LOOP BETWEEN LOGIN AND THE MIGRATION ASSISTANT. I CANNOT GET PAST THIS TO FIX THE ISSUE NOW. I HAVE SPENT MY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY MESSING WITH THIS INSTALL AND WONDER HOW ANYTHING THIS BAD EVER GOT OUT OF APPLE TO BEGIN WITH.
THANKS APPLE, KUDOS ON A JOB WELL DONE

John,
My installations have been flawless, and I am using the normal default installation method.
I had one issue on my MBP because of a 3rd party hacker preference plugin called "Application Enhancer", which caused a perpetual blue screen on start-up... but this was easily resolved (as in under ten minutes)
Please see discussion topic:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1199891&stqc=trueapple doc:
as well as Apple doc:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306857
What were the original problems before the update?
I had a long pause on the "Login patch update" on our G4 1.25 sunflower after it restarted on the update, it took it a while to boot back up just showing the Apple logo and the spinning beach ball... but it did start after about five minutes, and all is well.
If you can spell out exactly what happened, and what you did, perhaps the community could help ease your frustration with a satisfactory and quick solution. There is always a cause and affect.

  • Should we wait for a Garageband 2 patch for Leopard?

GB is the only iLife app I really use seriously, and unfortunately it is utterly unusable in Leopard. The bugs make it behave like a low-rent freeware application, not a serious piece of Apple software. I never would have bought Leopard if I'd known it would cause this disaster in Garageband. Why the **** should I buy iLife 08? I hardly need it! Give me Garageband back!

Leopard is a different operating system. The GarageBand you are using was written for a much older version of the Mac OS. It still works fine with an older OS, does it not? If you want new OS features, then the OS will have a lot of new code, and new code will not be compatible with some old code in some older applications. The more complex the old application, the more likely you will have problem. And yes, a three year old computer is getting a bit long in the tooth, in computer years. If you are perfectly happy with the performance of your old computer and the OS that ran well on it, and the applications that were written for them, then stick with what you have. As to who to talk to about it....I don't know, the technology gods maybe?
One reason Apple has been a more innovative company than Microsoft is because Apple hasn't been chained as firmly as MS has to a whole bunch of legacy applications and legacy machines, belonging to many many businesses where updating software and equipment is a very painful and expensive proposition.
And I presume, if you've had Apple stock for awhile, you got a tidy profit when you sold it, since the innovations at Apple over the last few years have resulted in rather explosive growth. It was only a decade ago that the "smart" money thought Apple should sell their assets to Sun and go out of business....and Apple stock was selling for $32.

  • Leopard Patch for XML Flash Slideshow please?

Hi all. I've been searching for hours on end trying to find a patch for the Leopard OS for the XML Flash Slideshow v3 extension (to add an image slideshow) from dwuser.com. The support area of that site leaves much to be desired, but I've read elsewhere that I need "the Leopard patch". Can anyone point me in the right direction to get the appropriate patch, please? Form submissions to dwuser.com have gone unanswered to date. Thank you in advance.....

Wow! Did you ever get an answer? I'm going through this right now. The GUI on v3 doesn't display correctly on Snow Leopard with Dreamweaver CS4, so I can't do any advanced editing.

Because this product is not developed by Adobe your best bet is to contact the original developer.

    Hi Tony,
Srry but No.  We just installed the monthly updates.
I went back and found I had missed removing a patch.  I missed the rollup for Windows Server 2003:
    Event Type: Information
    Event Source: NtServicePack
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 4382
    Date:  3/12/2015
    Time:  12:26:04 PM
    User:  NETTEST\admin
    Computer: DATA1
    Description:
Windows Server 2003 KB954920 was removed from your computer, and the previous Windows Server 2003 configuration was restored.
After I removed that is still didn't work but after about five minutes it started working.
I guess I ned to report that to MS after I research what might be changed to make the patch work.
Every time I get stuck and ask for help it seems to be just before I stumble on the solution.
    Thanks for replying.
Well - maybe this will help someone else.
    Thanks again for replying Tony

  • Reports successfully execute but generate a login failed for user 'sa' err

I am running Crystal Reports Server XI R2. Classic ASP is used to generate embedded reports within our application. The crystal reports use ODBC to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database. The reports successfully generate in our Classic ASP application. However in SQL Server 2005,  the following error messages are being generated each time a crystal report is ran:
    - Login failed for user 'sa'.
    - Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 8.
We know that we are passing the correct username/password to the crystal reports, becuase they execute successfully.
It appears that when the report is called, Crystal Reports appears to conect to SQL Server using a username/password that we didn't provide it at execution time, this fails and the SQL Server 'login failed for user' is generated. Then it runs the report using the username/password we provide and it successfully generates a report.
I have ran Profiler against the SQL Server Database and the 'Login failed for user 'sa' ' errors have a ApplicationName of either 'Seagate Crystal Reports' or 'Crystal Reports'. Therefore I know it is Crystal Reports generating these errors in SQL Server.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop these SQL Server 'Login failed for user 'sa' ' errors being generated?

What happens if you use Profiler when running the report using Crystal Report Designer?
If the report is ran through Crystal Report Designer, NO 'Login failed for user' error messages appear in profiler. Everything looks ok when ran in Designer.
Also, need to know what patch level you are on?
We are running Crystal Reports Server XI Release 2, Version: 11.5.8.8265
No additional patchs have been applied since Crystal Reports Server was installed.
We may try the SA account if one of the connections fail to log on with the credentials you provided. Verify the user you logged on with has rights to all tables.
The reports were running through our application using the SA account. The SA account has permissions to these tables. The reports do generate results and appear perfectly fine in the application.  The issue is that when our application requests the report from Crystal Reports Server. Crystal Reports Server delivers the correct report to our application. However during the process to generate the report, 'login failed for user 'sa' ' errors are being generated in SQL Server 2005.
Also, I have tried creating a completely new SQL user called 'crystaluser'. I ran the report using Crystal Report Designer and used the crystaluser logon and saved the report. Then I ran the same report through our application. SQL Profiler will then display 'login failed for user 'crystaluser''.
Its seems as though Crystal Reports Server is first executing the report using the default SQL user saved with the report, but is either sending a blank password or no password at all. This generates the 'login failed for user' in SQL Server 2005. But it then uses the SQL username/password my application gives it and successfully generates the report. Of course this is only speculation.

  • Weblogic patch for the "Authentication for user wlsadmin denied" issue

    Hi Everyone,
When I try to login to the weblogic console using the weblogic user id and password, I got below issue in the production server..Sometime back I saw a thread that Oracle has provided a patch for this issue. If any of you is aware of it then could you please provide us the patch file and its location please. This is quite a bit urgent. Awaiting for your response. Thanks in advance.

I need to communicate to onsite members about the patch details etc.

Faisal, Thank you for your response. Here the weblogic console id & password are known to few people so the guess you are making might be correct. Could anyone might have tried with incorrect credentials couple of times before we face this issue, I am not sure though. The moment we provide the credentials and upon click on Log In button we are getting j_security_check.
    http://asdo0002:9683/console/j_security_check
    Authentication Denied.
The username or password has been refused by WebLogic Server. Please try again.
Any information about the work--arounds or patches from weblogic would be helpful to me... Thanks a lot.

As Chrome is not an officially supported browser the fix has not been included in Convergence 1 patches however the fix is available with the upcoming Convergence 2 release.

  • Help-urgent - how to update service pack and apply patches for ADS

    Dear all,
I've just download the sp 11 and the patch ,how should i update my ADS? I've try to search the forum but to no avail. Pls advise, thanks.
    Regards,
    Joan

    Hi Joan,
To deploy an SCA or SDA, proceed as follows:
          1. Make sure you have downloaded the SCA or SDA from SAP Service Marketplace.
          2. Start the SDM GUI. To do this, execute the following file:
                a) Windows: RemoteGui.bat in folder \usr\sap\<SID>\<instance>\SDM\program
                b) Unix: RemoteGui.sh in folder /usr/sap/<SID>/<instance>/SDM/program
          3. The SDM GUI screen appears.
Note: With SAP Web Application Server 6.30 the SDM server is started whenever you start the SAP system. To check whether the SDM server is running, use the tools SAP Management Console (Windows) or jcmon (UNIX).
          4. Choose "SDM Gui -> Login" or the icon "Connect to SDM Server". The dialog box "Enter Login Information for SDM Server" appears.
          5. Enter the following information:
                a) Password
The initial password is "sdm" (without quotes).
                b) User description (optional)
                c) Hostname
                d) Port
With instance number 00, the default port number is 50018. If your instance number is different from 00, the port number changes to
                Port = 50018 + 100 x <instance number>.
You have to calculate the new port number and enter it manually.
          6. Choose "Login". The SDM GUI appears.
          7. Choose tab "Deployment".
          8. Choose "Add SCA/SDA to Deployment List (Local File Browser)". A file selection screen appears.
          9. Select the SCA or SDA file you would like to deploy and choose "Next" to read the information on the following screens.
          10. Choose "Next" until the "Start" button appears.
          11. Choose "Start". After the SCA or SDA has been completely deployed, a success message appears.
          12. Choose "Confirm" to return to the SDM GUI.
          13. When you have finished work, log out from the SDM server. Choose "Deployment -> Logout" or the icon "Disconnect from SDM server" for this.
If this answers your question, please mark the question accordingly and do award points if helpful.
    Regards,
    Arafat

I'm not aware of any being for sale and if there are it's a scam. bash is free software provided to Apple and many other computer software developers.
If you are still running Snow Leopard and you feel the need to patch bash, you will have to compile it for yourself.
Note that Apple is on record as saying:
The vast majority of OS X users are not at risk to recently reported bash vulnerabilities," an Apple spokesperson told iMore. "Bash, a UNIX command shell and language included in OS X, has a weakness that could allow unauthorized users to remotely gain control of vulnerable systems. With OS X, systems are safe by default and not exposed to remote exploits of bash unless users configure advanced UNIX services.

    some
reason my console prompt is gone. I can still get to the console
    screen buy
alt and esc and see the screen but, this is no prompt. It's like going
    to a
command prompt in windows but there is not command prompt. Does
    anybody know
    what wrong?
    thanks

  • Wasn't there supposed to be a new Voice for Leopard Speech things?

    Hello!
I remember that some time ago, I heard that Leopard was going to have new voices of some sort for things that use "speech". I believe it came from someone with the developer beta. Unfortunately, it appears that retail Leopard does not have a new voice, at least doesn't appear in the Speech panel of System Prefs. I may be missing it, however. Is there actually a new voice, of was that a rumor that never materialized?
I'm running Mac OS 10.5.1 on a 15" Powerbook G4, and everything is fully up-to-date.
    Thanks,
    -Daniel

Alex is surprisingly natural sounding. I found it accidently when I was poking around looking for large items (it's 670MBs). It should be here:
    "/System/Library/Speech/Voices/Alex.SpeechVoice"
Had it read a poem and it did quite well. I currently have it make a little announcement when I login:
"Welcome to Leopard. Francine has changed some of my spots, but I forgive her." Well, my students got a kick out of it....

  • Is there a patch for the NTP security issue that does not require Xcode?

Is there a patch for the NTP security issue that does not require Xcode? I have an older Intel mini that can't be upgraded beyond 10.6.8 and I currently don't have room for Xcode 3.2.5. Has somebody trustworthy posted these binaries?

You can also go to System Preferences/Date & Time and deselect Set time Automatically.
Snow Leopard users: Turn off automatic date and time in System Preferences immediately
