Beware MSI website redirection

If you are trying to access www.msi.com in order to check on and download newer bios or utility files for your AMD motherboard (any motherboard, apparently), please note that *this morning* I discovered that all requests for www.msi.com are being redirected to us.msi.com, a site which only features a download for Live Update and nothing else.  Not even Firefox 30's anti-redirection feature will prevent it; nor will cleaning out recent browser history.  (IE 11 gave the same result.) I had to do a Bing search for  just plain "msi.com" before finding a link to the International site, then I had to drag the link into my bookmarks before I was able to access the International MSI site again (through the link.)  The address is now msi.com/index.php  (no "www").
This gets weirder:  if I simply try and type in msi.com or www.msi.com into the browser's address bar, I am now always redirected to the us.msi.com site!  The *only* way I can get to the International MSI site is to click the bookmark!...  This will take me to the main page and to the bios and files pages for my AM3+ motherboard (G46), which is located on the...www.msi.com website!  Lol...
If MSI would simply mirror the International site on the us site, I'd have no problem with going to the us.msi.com site.  But I need to check the International site because the US site doesn't host the individual bios and utility files for my MSI motherboards...
Prior to this morning I had been able to access the www.msi.com site directly and without redirection to the us.msi.com site.  I have a feeling that MSI does not intend to make it more difficult for us in the US to access the global site, but nevertheless that seems to be the outcome.  Anyway, just Bing the location and drag the bookmark/favorite into the appropriate place, and anyone else afflicted with this problem can also access the International site to get at the individual files you may need.  Just thought I'd mention this...

Just checked and have had no problems with my bookmarking and selection of MSI Europe, MSI Global, or MSI USA. No redirection was taking place. That was with Internet Exploder 11.
It's still redirecting me.  Of course, I now use the correct links as indicated above.  http://msi.com/index.php takes me to the Global site; www.msi.com redirects me to us.msi.com  (the redirection happens for me with FF30 & IE 11)  Haven't the foggiest idea why this started happening...  At least I have the correct links now!
I'm glad it isn't happening on your end...it only recently started happening to me...

  • MSI Website(s) Security Holes (2014 preview?)

    Hello guys,
weeks ago I discovered several security holes on *.msi.com websites. I contacted MSI several times (3 MSI facebook accounts, 2 EMail adresses) and told them where the security holes are located and what an attacker could do with this holes - but they ignored me: They didn't reply (They publish stuff on facebook and dont read the messages I send them on fb ...? - emails are the same) and they didnt fix the holes. This is just irresponsible so I just wanted you to know that most msi websites are unsafe so you shouldn't register etc because it's easy to get access to the database-server(s). If you want something like a "proof" - just contact me,
Edited out threats and foul language -xmad
to other users: Please dont give any personal information to MSI, be carefull if you visit their websites. I'll tell you once they fixed the security holes (Okay well, only if they dont delete this post)
to those MSI guys: Stop ignoring me, check your Facebook and mail accounts and just talk to me and fix the security holes. And well, would be pretty nice to get a reward for my work (In my opinion it jsut would be fair). And well - if you delete this post I'll publish everything TODAY, with detailed PoC.
    Have a nice day,
    The Captain

First of all - sorry for using foul language and thanks to xmad to let me post again
MSI now fixed all security holes I discovered, but if you are registered on any *.msi.com website, please change your password. If you use the same email and password on other websites, please change your password there too. I was able to gain access to several databases, so it's possible that somebody else was able to do this too.
If somebody is interested in the timeline (dates are in dd.mm.yyyy format):
08.12.13 Discovered first security hole and contacted MSI via email
09.12.13 Discovered 30 other security holes
    10.12.13 Contacted MSI
    16.12.13 Contacted MSI
    18.12.13 Contacted MSI
    19.12.13 Contacted MSI
    31.13.13 Contacted MSI
02.01.14 MSI contacted me and started to fix the security holes
03.01.14 MSI fixed the security holes I discovered
Well, in my opinion more than 2 weeks to fix a security hole is just to long, but everything should be fine now.
    Have a nice day,
    TheCaptain

  • While surfing web too many website redirect occurs on safari as well as Google search. I am using wifi. This problem not there on my pic which is connected through wired modem

While surfing web too many website redirect occurs. I am using wifi.  some times it redirects to sexual sites some times to App Store. I tried after deleting history and cookies also. I am using safari and Google browser. I changed router configuration and password but problem still exists.

Hi! Thanks for your quick reply.
A few things happened since I've posted this.
1)I've deleted all the history and cookies from my macbook safari and when I opened the website with the issue, the problem did not happen this time.
2)Seeing this, I've deleted my history on iPhone's safari and opened the same website but the problem was there again.
3)The problem does not happen on iPad.
So, I do not have the problem at all on Google Chrome but on Safari (now just on iPhone)
Is this still about my router settings? If so would changing my phone DNS settings would suffice? Or do you think the problem might still remain on my computer as well?
This is so frustrating for a person who does not know anything about technology at all
    Thank you!

  • Website Redirect Malware

I use an iPad Air. Browser: Safari.
Just recently I encountered a malicious malware on my iPad that attaches itself to a particular website, and whenever you visit that website the malware will then automatically redirects you to another website (usually a site advertising some bogus product, or in worse case scenarios ****). Years ago I encountered a similar virus on my laptop, but on my laptop I had a good anti virus program and the ability to use system restore in order to undo the damage done easily.
Does anyone know how to remove or fix a website redirect virius on an iPad? At first I had tried clearing my cookies and data storage, but that did nothing. I was able to upgrade my OS to the most current version on my ipad, and that appears to have fixed the problem for now. But how would one fix it if there are no new updates to the OS to download?

I have a similar problem. This is the thread that i made.
I have Adware - Ads are randomly popping up in safari.
I am quite certain that this happened after connecting my ipad to my malware infected windows machine.
My version was up to date,
I browse reddit, which I know or some of you know, are free of obtrusive ads. But at some point, redirects me to a website adcash.com
My ipad was never jailbroken and i never knew how to jailbreak
but still, it redirects my safari to another adware tab.
I have tried everything Reset All Settings, Erase All Content and Settings, Reset Network Settings.
    Still, the problem persists.
I use paypal alot on safari and i am afraid that hackers will steal my info.

  • MSi website support not working - poor service!

MSi website support is not working.  Everytime I try to contact them using the support tickets I get a garbled message on screen and once you click the OK button it clears your ticket with nothing posted.
It's a very poor way for a company supposed to be a BIG company showing support to its customers.
You can't telephone them, cannot now use the ticket support, and can only HOPE someone from their technical department reads THIS.
I sent them an email about it and I'm just waiting to hear from them.
It makes me want to change to ASUS in future!

Ok I'll try to remain calm as I've just received a warning about "bashing" MSi.
I'll include the screenshot again for your attention.  At least the moderators here are reviewing the situation it seems, which, on a large forum, I didn't think would be noticed.
After going through advice of how to update my BIOS with their technical help on the website I flashed my MSi Z68A-GD65 (B3) successfully to version 22.8.  It was playing up before that on the orginal BIOS, slowing down in Windows, not recognizing various USB devices, and I had a Primary BIOS led flashing which meant it had failed on the mobo so the computer wasn't coming out of 'sleep'  very good (I just left it on all the time instead).
22.8 made it seem to be at it's best then I contacted them on which update next; they said P.1.  Unlike the previous one which I flashed inside the BIOS using M-flash, this had to be done in DOS which I did.
I saw a brief message which I think said updating should not be done while it is overclocked (I had the OC button on) but other than that it went through and said update was "successful".  That was the last message my machine made.
It is now in a constant 'boot loop' which lasts about 10 seconds, not enough time to interrupt or use a boot device, and just cycles switching off to booting then switching off, etc.
I've seen many cases of this and it must be a common problem, as I did everything as instructed and still it went wrong.
After lots of communication MSi UK agreed to inform the service department for a RMA to be sent to me, even though it was out-of-warranty.  Then they closed the ticket.  I opened a new ticket asking why they closed the ticket and I still had not received any RMA, they told me not to worry the RMA will be coming, then closed that ticket.
After waiting 10 days I tried to use the website form again filling out all the criteria on the form and instead I get this garbled writing with the OK button as I mentioned, which just sends you back to the home page with nothing updated.
So I am really frustrated at this point, unable to phone MSi (they won't talk to you), use the website (in UK) and have had to explain everything through an email correspondence, hence my lack of patience on this forum.
For years I put my faith in MSi products, I have a Nvidia graphics card also, and they are the market leader with the best looking designs and most powerful components.  But they should provide better customer support when things go wrong and are failing anyone who resides in the UK with a website service which doesn't work, and closing tickets before the problem has been sorted or the RMA has been sent.
    I hope you understand.

  • Automagic website redirection

I've recently had problems with a Searchqu malware downloaded with a utility I got from "http://download.cnet.com" -- BEWARE.
I've now sorted that thanks to Firefox HELP gurus, and have restored Google.com/ig as my home page. However, before I stupidly downloaded the dodgy utility, I could put a search expression e.g. "netgear uk" into the URL text field in Firefox and it would automagically redirect me to the website i.e. "www.dlink.co.uk" normally in a new browser tab. Now, doing the same just returns a normal Google search response in the same tab.
Not a big problem, but the previous set-up was better.
Anyone know what I need to do to restore the previous set-up?
    thanks

  • How do I remove the "Go to a website" redirection?

Hi. I'd like to know how to remove the redirection to the navigation bar when I open up a new tab. Everytime I open up a new tab I've set it so I come to my homepage, google. But instead of directing me to the search bar in the center of the site, as it usually does when you type in the address and hit enter, it redirects me to the navigation bar, removes everything there and puts out the text "Go to a website". I don't want that, I want so it puts me in the search bar like if I'd have typed in the address in the navigation bar. Thanks in advance.

That is how the new tab page works.
It works with the build-in about:home page, but not with web pages like the Google search page (www.google.com)

  • Website redirects to PC scan

Last week I had this happen 2-3x. I’d return to my Mac & on one of my open Safari Tabs the web page (Drudge Report) had been redirected to a fake PC scan site. I’d be unable to switch tabs or do anything with Safari. The fake scan was taking up the entire page & a pop up window to D/L the malware/fake virus ‘ fix.’ Only had one option “OK.” Could not close or Quit Safari.  Could only force quit. When Safari relauched, it was OK unless I opened the Drudge Report tab. This happened whether or not that tab was the active tab or not. One time I did accidentally click OK & got a zip file D/L to my Downloads folder & I immediately trashed it w/o opening the zip file & then emptied the trash. I looked & no Mac defender or Mac anything in my applications folder or running under Process in Activity Monitor. So, I am fairly certain I did not install any malware. Probably was PC malware from an attack on this specific website. But, never had anything like this happen with Mac b4. If a web site got hijacked it just screwed up THAT particular site & could navigate away or close that tab & no effect on the entire browser.
I wonder if this was the Mac Defender malware? I had thought the Mac malware was specific to Macs & the file if D/L & installed would be a Mac file. DMG?
Today I installed the Apple update that should automatically scan for & warn against the Mac Defender malware.
Anyone else have anything like this happen recently?

You need to type in the    www
    Otherwise it will redirect.

    Oy Vey Zak!!!
I've been over this for about an year now ( you can read other related posts) and have grown weary because there is no viable solution. The issue is that certain manufacturers devices, mainly Samsung & Archos tablets in my case, don't "pull" the correct version of my site. I have tried my site on iPads and the correct version appears no problem however not everybody has (or likes) an iPad. On Samsung and Archos Tablets the Phone site appears which look crappy. In this case I would expect that, due to the resolution of the tablets, the desktop version would appear which makes sense and is desirable.
Currently I'm in the middle of redesign so I only have Desktop and Phone complete. However, if you use an Archos or Samsung Tab tablet you will see that it defaults to the phone which in my opinion is silly since they both have the resolution needed. When I did have a tablet site available in my last site version, the tablets would default to the phone site like now.
My larger question is when does Adobe plan on rolling out responsive / elastic / flexible (whatever you want to call it) design? And I'm not referring to three separate sites either.
I'm not sure what the technical restrictions are that the Muse team is facing which prevents them from implementing responsive design?  Can't Adobe take Reflow and "merge" it with Muse or something along those lines?
Macaw , Webflow , CoffeeCup ... all offer this. As a non coder I would be interested in hearing (again) why this cannot be for Muse?
    Frustrated,
    Ed

  • WRT310N - Loses websites, redirects others, seemingly at random

    Hi,
I've been having a bizarre problem with my WRT310N router ever since I set it up a couple of weeks ago.
Periodically-- and this happens multiple times a day-- a website or domain either becomes completely unavailable, or redirects to a different domain.  It happens constantly; the domain is only out of order for a few minutes at a time before reverting back to normal, but it's still very obnoxious.  And it happens without warning, without any seeming pattern, and to a variety of websites.
Yesterday I took screenshots of most of the times this happened-- I stopped at six. Each error message is different.  Here they are with descriptions:
1)the router thinks the sports.espn.go.com domain does not exist (even though it recognizes espn.go.com)
2)thinkprogress.org returns a google.com "not found" for all pages on its site.
    3)facebook.com redirects to propeller.com.
4)youtube.com redirects to a nonexistent wikimedia page.
5)espn.go.com exists, but every page on the site, including the home URL, is a broken link.
6)the forumserver domain at twoplustwo.com does not exist.
Has anyone had an issue like this and can tell me what's going on and how to fix it?  I have a PC running Windows 7, another running XP Professional, an iPhone, and two roommates with Mac laptops, and it happens on all of them, when they are connected to my router.  I've tried Chrome, Firefox, IE, and Safari, and it happens on all of them.  It only happens to each site for a few minutes before reverting back to normal.
    Thanks.

Did you ever get any resolution to this?
