Beware of IPOD and ITUNES (lame quicktime add on) java interaction!

i just got an ipod a couple days ago and had to install itunes
for it. the installation disc installs quicktime 6 with itunes
whether you want to or not.
Anyway, the next day i went to work with my laptop and
none of my code would compile.
Stupid quicktime changed my classpath and path.
Not only that but im pretty sure it installed a jre on my
computer which caused me a crazy headache when installing Ant.
i had to uninstall the bogus jre to have my sdk work as the
dfault java installation otherwise despite setting the %JAVA_HOME%
variable to the right directory it kept looking in the jre (hence,
no javac or tools.jar which is a big problem).
Worse, i couldnt even delete the bogus C:\Program Files\Java\jre
folder because some process was using it.
I went to task manager and closed all the background itunes, ipod and quicktime
mess and i was finally able to delete the folder.
anyway just watch out.
i posted my ant problem but then realized it was part of the
previous ipod problem when i found QTtask or QTsomething
in the shady jre.
for shame apple, haha.

Home sharing only allows you to stream content from a computer's iTunes to an iOS device or another computer (and to copy from the computer to another computer), you can't use it to copy items to an iOS device.
If the apps are still in your country's store then you should be able to redownload them on your iPad via the Purchased tab in the App Store app on it, and for music (if you are in a country where music purchases can be redownloaded and they are still in the store) then you can redownload them via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad. Or you can copy them from your iPod to your computer's iTunes library by connecting it and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option and then sync them to your iPad.

    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

  • All songs erased from ipod and itunes

I'm trying to help a friend and learn in the process. When he turned on his ipod all the songs were gone and when itunes was opened to see about putting the 3000+ songs back on to the ipod the library had disappeared as well. He said he hadn't done anything, and he didn't back up any of the music. Is there anyway to rescue all of these songs from either itunes or the ipod? We bought and ran a program called Recover My Ipod, but it didn't work and I'm not to sure about it's reliability. Any help at all would be great it's windows xp.
      Windows XP

Don't give up on looking for the songs.
You can use Explorer to search your computer for missing songs.
On the Start menu, click "Search".
    Select "All Files and folders".
In the "All or part of the file name" field, type the song name and then click "Search".
If you see the file you are looking for in the Search Results window, you can add it back into your iTunes library.
See: How to add songs from your hard drive to iTunes.
If they truly are gone from both the iPod and iTunes, have a read of this post which offers some hope.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • IPod and iTunes don't work, HELP!!!

I bought a few albums a week or so ago and didn't bother to burn a copy. Next, I got a few new CDs for Christmas, so I decided to upload them to iTunes. I had started when I had to log off of my account for a while. So, I logged off for about an hour, and I tried to get back on iTunes to finish uploading the CDs, but it wouldn't open, and I couldn't digure out how to get it to open. Then I went on vacation for about a week, and on about the third or fourth day my iPod (Classic, 30 GB, made in 2006) started spazzing out. It would play but the screen stayed the same, or it would "pause" without actually pausing. So I did the thing the support tells you to do , toggle the hold button, then press the middle and menu button simultaneously. I did that twice, cause the first time it didn't work. The second time I did this, it seemed to work, but then the screen just went black. I hit the menu button to see if that would help, but instead of making my iPod good as new, the screen went white and said "Connect to your computer. Use iTunes to restore." So, I obviously couldn't, because my computer was at home, and I wasn't. I waited till I got home (yesterday night) and restored my computer to a time I knew iTunes was working, and went to sleep cause it was taking a long time.
This morning, I got up and tried to open iTunes, but a window popped up that said Quicktime was not installed and iTunes needs Quicktime to run. so, I reinstalled Quicktime and when I tried to open iTunes, another window popped up that said that the Quicktime I had was 5.5(I think) and it needed 5.7 or later. So I uninstalled Quicktime and reinstalled it with Apple. I tried again to open iTunes, but yet another window popped up that said something like "Your library cannot be opened because it was installed on a more recent version of iTunes. So here I am now, after being on the computer all day, after repeatedly uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime and updating iTunes several times, completely confused. Is there any way to get my library back and restore my iPod? Any and all hints are desperately wanted. Please help!

  • HT203175 My Ipod and Itunes on my computer are both working fine except on my Ipod when I try to play music it will not allow me to play any music

Hello there everyone,   my Ipod and Itunes on my computer are working fine,  but my Ipod is frozen,  I can do anything else on it except I cannot play
music on it  or  play music from a dock on it   ,    please let me know what I can do ,   thank you  !

Hi all. Never had any problems with iTunes over the past 6 or 7 years but suddenly (in last week or two) I can't play any songs with 10.6.1. I can select songs and get the speaker symbol, but the song does not play and the indicator stays at 0, while the play button is replaced by the pause button, as it normally does when a song is playing. I am using a one year old PC with Windows 7 and have had no other issues. Tried starting iTunes in safe mode...same result.Thoughts? Thanks.

  • IPod and iTunes Need Couples' Counseling?

OK, I've been having some really weird problems with connecting my new 4th gen iPod touch to my Windows Vista PC and getting them to recognize each other properly. I plug my iPod into my computer's USB port with the iPod USB cable, expecting my computer to recognize the iPod like it used to with my old one, and automatically bring up iTunes. But to my surprise, no such luck. The computer and the iPod don't connect properly, I guess. The weird thing is, if I open iTunes manually, the program will freeze, I will force-quit it through the task manager, and then if I disconnect and reconnect the iPod, the computer will recognize it and everything will be peachy. Until iTunes freezes again, and I have to shut it down again, and then even if I open iTunes manually, it will not recognize the iPod (which won't appear in the sidebar in iTunes the way it usually does). Anything I can do to get my iPod and iTunes back on the same page, so they will play nicely together again?
    Thanks!

What version of iTunes are you running on your PC? What about the iOS version on your iPod Touch? Is it possible that you are running iOS 4.2.1 on your iPod Touch and have an iTunes version lower than 10.1? If that is the case, try updating your iTunes to the newest release and see if that helps.

If iTunes purchases, delete and redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise delete and resync if they play OK in iTunes on the computer

My ipod and itunes both are skipping to another song about in the middle of the song. It doesn't happen on all songs...only some songs. I have reset the ipod, I have done a restore, I have reloaded itunes, I have updated the ipod but still am unable to figure out why. It did not used to do this. I can't figure out any pattern to the songs it does it on versus that it doesn't do it on. Some of the songs are purchased, some are imported, etc. We are running Windows 7.

how long have you had your ipod? mine did the same but after a while you need to get a new one because of the battery...

  • Reloading ipod and itunes on a new computer

I am trying to reload ipod and itunes on a new computer I recently bought. Because of disc management issues, I had these on an external drive (assigned the letter "F") on my old system. The letter "F" is assigned to a disc drive on my new computer. Every time I try to load ipod or itunes, the installer sequence tells me there is no available memory on drive F of the new machine (true enough), but will not let me re assign to a new drive.
suggestions on how to resolve this?
    many thanks. Bill

  • I have two 2nd generation iPods and iTunes will no longer let me delete songs (Delete in gray)?

I have two 2nd generation iPods and iTunes will no longer let me delete music from either one. If I select a song, "Delete" is gray in the menu and cannot be selected. What's happened? New iTunes not compatible?

In order to manually remove music from the iPod via iTunes, you need to have the Manually manage music and videos option checked from under each iPod's Summary tab.

  • Trouble synchronizing IPOD and ITunes

I had the Ipod and ITunes syncing up correcting under my old laptop under Windows XP Professional. I got a new laptop with Windows XP Professional. I copied all the songs from the old to the new laptops and syncing was ok. The new laptop developed a problem, and I got a new replacement. I copied all the songs to the second new laptop and tried to sync up the laptop. Songs play okay in itunes, but the Ipod was wiped clean. Any ideas? I would hate to go back to reload CD's from my collection. Thanks.

It says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please  install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel" :/ it says this when i try to reinstall and uninstall

my older iPod my husband wants to use and his netbook does not have cd drive. How do I down load iPod and iTunes info for this product so he can now use it?

Your question(s) is/are a little hard to understand.  So your husband has an iPod as well as a netbook and he wants to be able to sync iPod with this netbook is that correct?  If so, he'll need to first download and install iTunes assuming the netbook is running some version of Windows such as 7, Vista, or XP.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
As for importing or ripping music, he'll have to either use an external CD/DVD drive that is attached via USB or rip the songs to another PC you have with a built in CD/DVD drive.  Once you have imported them to the other computer, you can transfer the songs to an external hard drive or to his iTunes library via Home Sharing.
If this isn't quite what you were looking for, please clarify.

songs wiped from ipod and itunes, can i get them back?

If they were imported from CDs, and you had no other backup of them on your system or another drive, you'll need to reimport them from CDs again.
For music purchased from the iTunes, you can redownload each track at no cost via iCloud.  See this article for more details.
