Beware of Zoomify and Flash CS3!
Does anyone else have problems getting
Zoomifyer for Flash to work in Flash CS3 on Mac OSX?
Everytime I launch the Component Inspector in the Zoomify Viewer
Component I get an alert saying: "Reference Error ZoomifyFileAPI is
not defined". This is one of several JavaScript errors and alerts
that frequently launch. I emailed [email protected] but so far no
reply.
Am really annoyed for three reasons:
1. Paid 129 USD for it
2. It is for client work!
3. Zoomify have as yet to respond
I have the same problem. (on Flash CS3 OS X) Bought it
yesterday for a project. Expected to get documentation with the
download. No response from support. I installed the component in
Flash MX2004 and get this error : ZoomifyFileAPI.fileExists is not
a function when opening the component inspector... At least I was
able to enter paths and get a first etst going.
Overall it looks buggy... and abandoned. Too bad. I like the
samples I've seen and I think there is a lot of potential for
development.

Director 11 and flash cs3 editing
Hi,
Since the last version of director, i worked fine with it and
the feature of flash editing from director (you know, double click
in flash member and the flash movie opens from director. Then you
can update from flash in one only click).
Well, now i've installed dir11 and flash cs3 (without
uninstall dir10 and flash8, because i know that flash 8 doesn't
work with dir11, so I'm looked for profiting this feature with the
old dir10 and flash8 and dir11 and flashCS3). Ok, this feature
doesn't work anymore. When i try to edit from dir11, flash CS3
opens the SWF file!!!!. The same occurs with dir10 and flash8!!
After this, i've tried all possibles combinations,
uninstalling flash8 and reinstalling flashCS3, and the same with
directors. Finally, i found that the versions of macromedia
products doesn't uninstall completely, (even after removing
manually all the registry references of both products). When i
uninstall dir10 and then i install dir11, the .dir files is not
associated with director anymore(even with the rebootings), the
system ask to me the proper application. The .dir icons are white.
To solve this, i need reinstall dir10 and the icons back. Then, i
reinstall dir11 and the icons change properly.
All this adventure with director versions is just the same
with Flash 8 and CS3, with one big difference. Now i'm unable to
install CS3 properly to edit from dir11. All that i get is the SWF
editing but not the fla, and the .fla icons disappears. Not
associated anymore.
I've tried with the CS3 cleaning tool from adobe and
reinstalling applications, and no success. So, i think that maybe
the problem can solve doing a complete clean uninstall of
macromedia programs, but at this time i don't find the way to do
it.
I little help is needed, please...

Thanks, i know this. But this is not the problem. The
external editor (flash cs3) is located by director, and the path of
the fla file is correct. Director finds the file but opens the
swf!!, but the fla. -
Windows 7 and Flash CS3 / CS4
I run Windows 7, clean install with Flash Professional CS4 (also CS3). But both are working so extremely slow it's just not usable. So I tried both running from within the Virtual PC XP Mode and both are as fast as they were in XP.
I tried to run both in compatibility mode but it doesn't help. Only way seems to run it in a Virtual PC/XP Mode. If I do run it in Windows 7 it's simply so unresponsive.. if you click it takes 20 seconds to wake up the program and react to what you clicked at. I know many more have the same problems but I didn't see any solution. Can't imagine Adobe ain't aware of this huge problem.
Hope someone has some helpfull tips.Problem is not in your windows 7 OS, since i was working CS4 and now i m working with CS5 in windows 7 only. And i feel more comfort with this new OS. May be you hardware configuration might not be support to new technology like windows 7 and Flash CS5. Beca it is need high hardward configuration

Is Vista and Flash CS3 performance issue solved?
My performances in Flash CS3 are very poor. When I try to
scroll up-down/left-right I got slideshow. When move the
framecursor to view the frames I also get slideshow. Searched
google, do the compatibility settings and the only batter thing I
get is smoother scrolling of the code. Nothing more. Is this
solved?
Im running C2Duo with 4gb 800 ram with Vista x64.
Should I go back to Flash 8?I have an old AlBook G4 1.67 2GB and I actually think CS3
works great. There is a huge thread about this very issue going on
at the moment so you might want to take a look there. I never had
Flash 8, but MX04 also ran just fine on my laptop.
As far as player performance, it has sped up a lot with AS3
and Flash plugin 9. (Even if you publish AS2 for Flash 9!). I Don't
know if there is true parity between the systems, but it is
certainly faster.
I've always thought it a good idea to develop on a Mac. If
you can make your animations look smooth and good playing back in
the Mac version of the player then you know they will look good
across the board. I can't tell you how many sites (thankfully fewer
these days) where I go and everything just crawls and chugs along.
It is usually due to over high frame rates and excess transparency
or animated raster images. (And I'm talking about the kind that
even if it did move smoothly it wouldn't be worth it!) -
Captivate 3 and Flash CS3 under Vista 64
Hello,
I'm having a problem with using Adobe Captivate 3 and Adobe Flash CS3 in tandem to get my Captivate project in a file format accepted by online video sharing sites such as YouTube. Since Captivate 3 does not have an option to export to .avi or any other accepted movie file format, I thought that I would export the Captivate project to Flash, and then export it to the avi file format through Flash. However, whenever I select "File>Export>Project To>Flash CS3," I get the following error in Flash:
quote:
The import did not finish because an unknown error occurred
I could not find any resources that pertained to my particular problem. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, with a different directory structure than XP. In the Adobe Developer Center article " Exporting your Adobe Captivate project to Flash," it references a certain "RDMFISTUB.DLL" file that I cannot locate on my system. Could this problem be caused by incompatibilities with Vista?
My end goal is to post a Captivate project comprised of mostly full-motion recording to YouTube. If there is another way to do this that doesn't involve installing any 3rd-party software, I'm open to that as well.
Thank youYou said...
quote:
The much bigger obstacle is that when I export a Captivate
project that incorporates full-motion recordings with static slides
displaying a text caption to Flash and then to .mov, I lose the
full-motion recordings: they are replaced with a blank white or
black screen (whatever the background color is set to be). The
audio is gone too. I don't know what is causing this, but I would
really appreciate any help you could lend me concerning this.
I don't have a solution -
maybe someone else here does - but would offer an
observation ...
Keeping in mind that I avoid monkeying with my own Captivate
projects in Flash because of the various inconsistencie, some of
which you have seen ... I am hopeful that the Captivate team does
something to address the handling of full-motion slides. We all
know that they are created as AVI clips which are then converted to
SWF as separate slides, so it seems logical to me that there must
be a way to offer the source, that is, the AVI or a FLA either of
which would then be handled separately inside Flash (for those who
like to do their tinkering in that environment).
In the meantime, you might try to change the timing of the
(errant) full-motion slide a bit. Like, perhaps add or subtract a
tenth of a second to it or otherwise change its properties so that
the import doesn't end up as a blank. Just thinking out loud in
trouble-shooting mode... come to think of it, when the project is
published to SWF/HTM, each full-motion slide is published as a
separate SWF file. Would it be possible to publish the project,
then try to bring that SWF back into Captivate as an animation?
It's late here and I'm getting into fuzzy-thinking time, so if that
doesn't make sense, it wouldn't surprise me. -
Hi,
I'm still using Captivate 2, but I have Flash CS3 installed.
Can I export my .cp files to .fla? On the captivate export menu,
there are options for Flash 8 and MX 2004 that are greyed out, and
I don't get a CS3 option at all. I've already uninstalled Flash 8,
and I had some quirky problems with Dreamweaver and file
association for Fireworks during the upgrade. Could this be
related, or is it just not possible?
Thanks!Hi loudena and welcome to our community
Flash CS3 arrived after Captivate 2 did, so it comes as no
surprise that Captivate 2 is oblivious to Flash CS3.
You might try opening Flash CS3, then attempting to point at
the Captivate 2 .CP file. Not sure if that will work, but just
thinking out loud.
Cheers... Rick -
I have read the threads on lack of support for transparency in animated GIFs and QT Flash tracks. I just installed Adobe CS3 and iWork '08, and Keynote '08 seems willing to import Flash 9 files (although I have yet to try features not in Flash 5). There seems no way to specify transparency for the background in SWF, it is an option on export. Assuming the lack of support for transparency is fixed, is there hope for being able to import SWF 9 files to Keynote '08 and have them be transparent?
Welcome to the discussions, Jeff.
I don't think so. Since the Flash would be playing within QuickTime, and the problem is somewhere between Keynote's and QuickTime's interactions, that core problem would have to be resolved before transparencies would work in Keynote.
However, if you get it to work, definitely post back to let us know! (By the way, you're right that the QuickTime support in Keynote for Flash can support ANY version Flash file as long as the file doesn't use any post Flash 5 features.)

it is possible to work with flash and lcds to create applications RMTP of similar way to work with flash and FMS2 to do for example, chat?
RTMP is only used as a transport protocol in LCDS (there's no NetConnection API on the server), but you can definitely write chat-style applications with LCDS.
Take a look at the various samples contained in the samples.war that the installer lays down.
To display the LiveCycle Data Services ES samples home page, open a browser to the following URL once you're up and running:
http://localhost:portnumber/samples (portnumber is the HTTP port number; for example, http://localhost:8080/samples)
The samples app contains a variety of samples (including chat and data feed style examples).

Director MX 2004 and Flash CS3
Hi there:
New to Director, so I apologize if this question's a wierd
one, but I'm wondering -- is it possible to host a Flash 9 SWF
(authored, say, in Flex and written in AS3) in a Director MX 2004
project? I'd like to add some of the features of Director to my
SWF, and am hoping I can drop in my SWF and write some code that'll
bridge the two environments.
Thanks,

No, the last publically released version of the Flash Asset
xtra will
play version 8/AS2 files only. The next version of Director
(due before
the end of the year) is expected to include an updated asset

I'm having a couple of peculiar issues with Flash on my new computer and was hoping to get some suggestions on what might be causing them. I have Windows 7 (64) and Flash CS3 Professional. Flash itself installs fine and runs fine. But two issues crop up.
The first is that, when Flash tries to update itself, it runs into multiple errors - saying that the source files have moved and so it can't update them. I install everything into C:\ and make no changes to Flash's location during or after installation...so I'm not sure how anything could have moved anywhere other then where Flash would have wanted them to be in the first place.
The second issue is actually more of a problem. Flash seems to be running some sort of interference with my internet connection. This happens either immediately after I restart the computer after installation or (this last time) a few days later. My computer boots up and, suddenly, I can't access the internet. When I remove Flash and restart, my connection is fine. I've never had this sort of problem before and I'm not terribly tech savvy so I'm not sure how to go about trouble-shooting it. I tried doing a very bare-bones installation of CS3 to see if it was one of the extra programs causing the problem and it took a few days before the net conked out - but I eventually again had to uninstall.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Nancy,
More information on your HP would be helpful.
Also, when you did the installation, did you first turn off all AV, pop-up blocking and spysweeping software?
Do you have your Firewall, and the Win7 Security measures turned off?
Have you updated to the latest Flash Player?
Are you installing to C:\? The exact destination folder is not important, but being on your C:\ is.
Did you ever have a trial version of PrPro on your computer? If you did, you will want to uninstall the current attempted installation, if you can, run the Adobe Clean Script CS3 a few times, maybe followed by a good Registry cleaner, like CCleaner, and then install as Administrator, with the above considerations.
After you have attempted to install, have you gotten any error, or warning messages? Those could be very important. Please post the complete text of any.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - I assume that you posted to the Adobe (old Macromedia) Flash forum of this problem. Did the users there offer you any ideas? -
Flash CS3 ActionScript and "Test Movie" on Mac
I recently switched over to a PowerMac and Flash CS3 from
Flash 8 on a PC.
I've been on a PC forever but wanted to migrate over to the
Mac as XP and Vista and the headaches we all know about.
So, within Flash you can "Test Movie" and a little test
window pops up displaying your swf.
It has always been the case on the PC, and my friends with
Flash 8 on the Mac tell me it's the same for them, that you can be
writing in the Actions panel and then hit "Control/Apple - Enter"
and the ActionScript actions you just typed will be reflected in
the "Test Movie" pop up. In other words it the "Test Movie" window
acts as a constantly updated reflection of the latest edit to your
Flash piece, regardless of whether you've "Saved" the .fla document
itself.
This is part of the normal work flow to me. Write some
actions, edit them, when they are right, I save. But in the
meantime, as I'm writing I can keep hitting "Control/Apple - Enter"
to watch the changes of my edits and I'll see them.
Well, on my new Mac with Flash CS3, the "Test Movie" window
never updates to the latest edit. Whether with hot-keys or with the
cursor/menu selection, the window will not reflect the latest edit,
UNLESS, I close it first. If I close it, and then hit the
hot-keys/menu for "Test Movie" then it will load my latest edit
(regardless of whether the .fla is saved). So it seems that closing
the pop up "Test Movie" window prior to is the only way to ensure
getting the current edit/actions to preview.
If you write a lot of actions script, then I'm sure you can
agree that adding that "close the window" step into your work flow
is really really a headache. And, if I can't find a way around
that, sadly, I'll have to migrate back to the PC, ugh, and Flash
CS3 on it, which still acts as it always has, with "control-enter"
faithfully launching the current edit.
Any ideas? Have you experienced this. You have to switch the focus back to the application and then
to the test window. Evidently between Flash MX04 (the one I have to
test) and CS3, they made it so that just clicking in the AS editor
window doesn't return the focus to the application. In that case
the Testing Environment intercepts the apple-enter and just
re-tests the already compiled version.
If you click the application window, then click the
actionscript window, it will recompile the swf. However I
personally don't find apple-w to close the window so
onerous. -
Export to Flash CS3 doesn't work
Hello,
I have Captivate 4 and Flash CS3 (full versions) - WinXP.
When I want export Captivate project to Flash - "File -> Export
-> Project to -> Flash CS3" I will get only notify: "Cannot
initialize Cpativate FLA Exporter. You may need to restart Flash."
Flash CS3 is running and Captivate project is saved. Any idea?
LeošHi Leoš,
I guess you are searching in the wrong place. Its not
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash
CS3\cs\Configuration\Importers
It should be
For XP:
<Windows Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user
directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash
CS3\<language>\Configuration\Importers
For Vista:
<Windows Drive Letter>:\Users\<user
directory>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash
CS3\<language>\Configuration\Importers
Windows Drive Letter is the drive in which windows is
installed into. Generally it is 'C' (without quotes)
Anyway, I dont think there is support for Czech version of
Flash to export from Captivate. However you can try this out:
Copy RDMFISTUB9.dll into
For XP:
<Windows Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user
directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash
CS3\<language>\Configuration\Importers\
For Vista:
<Windows Drive Letter>:\Users\<user
directory>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash
CS3\<language>\Configuration\Importers\
(Ex path for dll: For XP, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
Captivate 4\RDMFISTUB9.dll)
Copy RdJsfl.dll into
For XP:
<Windows Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user
directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash
CS3\<language>\Configuration\External Libraries\
For Vista:
<Windows Drive Letter>:\Users\<user
directory>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash
CS3\<language>\Configuration\External Libraries\
(Ex path for dll: For XP, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
Captivate 4\RdJsfl.dll)
Copy AdobeCaptivate Folder inside ActionScript Folder into
For XP:
<Windows Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<user
directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash
CS3\<language>\Configuration\Classes\
For Vista:
<Windows Drive Letter>:\Users\<user
directory>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash
CS3\<language>\Configuration\Classes\
(Ex path for folder: For XP, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
Captivate 4\ActionScript\AdobeCaptivate)
You can get RDMFISTUB9.dll, RdJsfl.dll in Adobe Captivate 4
installed directory
(Generally this should be C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe
Captivate 4)
Now try to import a cp file into captivate.

i have been searching for help on this issue and cant seem to find an answer. i am sure the issue is my lack of understanding.
Basically, i have a flash (CS3) program (lobby.fla) that contains a button to load another flash file (join.swf). i published the
lobby.fla program and created the lobby.html program and the AC_RunActiveContent.js. All program files are in the same directory.
if i run lobby.fla from Flash CS3 all works as i would expect. when i click on the join button, the join.swf is loaded.
if i run the lobby.html program from Dreamweaver, the join button does nothing (not even a trace statement is excuted).
Eventually I would like to pass parameters from the lobby program to the join program but i cant get the button to work.
if i just load the htl program in the browser this works. but when i run the lobby.html program from within dreamweaver the botton does
nothing. what am i missing in the dreamweaver side of this?
my environment is Windows XP Home, php-mysql, Dreamweaver and Flash CS3.
thanks for any help
teremotoat this stage i would take a guess. i am at a loss.
from my understanding i have published the lobby.fla and i have gotten a lobby.swf, lobby.html and an AC_RunActiveContent.js files.
i have looked at the lobby.html and it seems to match with what i can find on the web searching forums for help and examples.
so i dont think it is that but it may be i need to add something but i am not sure. the AC_RunActiveContent.js file seems to be rather generic and
it does not look like something i should or would modify.
why would this work fine if i run this program outside of dreamweaver?
i thought it would be best to use html-ajax-php-mysql to handle logins and then let flash be the main program that the user will use.
maybe i am wrong in my design thinking. What i am trying to accomplish is to have a page presented (with links to join specific rooms).
the rooms will be a flash program (there is no required interaction between users who join the room...but i will need to pass a few pieces of
data back to the main calling program where i will need to update my database).
should my design be more where all links/buttons needed to move the user to the flash programs i want them to interact with be done outside
of flash? i was hoping to use flash to just pass the required parameters back to the lobby.html program and then process that data (update
my databases) . it just seemed easier to have a main driver program (my lobby flash program) to handle all the work as opposed to a whole bunch
of html pages.
i appreciate your opinion on this....i feel i maybe moving in the wrong direction in my development.
thanks

Brush Options in Flash CS3 not showing up
Hello. I'm using Flash CS3 and I'm not able to see all of the
options for the Brush tool. I don't have the pressure-sensitive
option or the tilt option. Is there something I need to download or

available to me..my tool palette ends at the brush size and shape
options at the bottom. Any ideas please?jgleica,
> I tried that but it must be the biggest it can get.

Woops, it's the Flash CS4 Tools panel that has more resizing
options.
In Flash CS3, you should at least be able to adjust the width
of the Tools
panel (click the very top, in the area of the panel that has
double arrows).
The wider version of that panel gives it two columns, and
shortens it --
which might just show your missing buttons.
> There's just empty space there. Is there an extension
pack
> or something I should've downloaded maybe?
There may be updates since Flash CS3 was originally
released, but there
aren't any extension packs that add graphics tablet choices
to the Tools
panel: they're definitely supposed to be there, and Flash CS3
shipped with
those buttons in the original release.
What happens if you select Default from the Workspace
dropdown?

Why won't Flash CS3 install on my MacPro?
I've done three clean installs of CS3. Lots of crashing problems with FW CS4 and Bridge CS4, so I thought a fresh start would be helpful. Wrong. I'm NOT on Snow Leopard. MacPro, Intel, 4 gigs RAM. I did have Fireworks CS4 on my Mac, but it's all uninstalled. When I try to install the entire CS3 suite, Flash will not install. When I try to install Flash all by itself, it keeps asking for the Fireworks install CD, over and over, even though FW has been uninstalled. Then, ultimately, Flash doesn't install.
I tried to run the CS3 cleanup script, but the terminal won't take my password. I ran the CS4 cleanup script after I uninstalled FW, but it said there was nothing to clean up.
Please, can anyone help? I've spent SEVERAL hours on this. Even repaired permissions. I want to scream.I had a scratched disk.
I did two things: I bought a disk repair contraption at Best Buy. Worked awesomely. Then I copied the file onto my hard drive and ran it from there.
This was NOT a seamless process, and I can't even remember everything I did to make it work (oh, and I had copied and pasted Fireworks CS4 to my desktop from my install CD, too, because it stopped recognizing my brand new license, and Flash CS3 required this FW CS4 file to be in the same location from which I installed it in order to make Flash CS3 install), but I FINALLY got it to work, after working on it for 6 hours, going to bed at 3am, getting up at 7:30am, and working on it for another 11 hours, including two phone calls for a total of two hours to Adobe's stellar support in Pah-kee-stahn, wherein I was given the wrong information from 3 technicians who, granted, *really* tried to help, but who couldn't even agree with each other on the fix - "Customer service will give you a link to stand-alone versions of Acrobat 8 and Flash CS3 that you can activate with your serial number," "No we can't. We'll have to send you a link to the whole suite." Except the link to the download wouldn't work when they checked it on their end, so they couldn't send it to me, and they would have someone call me back in 24-48 hours, then 2-3 hours (after I pitched a fit because I have to work - no work, no pay) - they didn't call me back. It's been over 24 hours, it's been over 2-3 hours.
And even so, it won't reinstall Acrobat because it says it's already been installed, even though I can't find it anywhere on my system - not in my applications folder, not in my emptied trash, not my various folders in the user library, not in the root library, not in the system library - nowhere. But it's there. In a ghost area of my system, apparently. So I had to buy Acrobat 9 just so I could work. Academic Superstore. Academic discount - NEVER stop learning! Even if you're 51.
I feel incredibly hostile toward Adobe. But their software is my bread-and-butter. I use almost all of it on a daily basis. It's going to be a long, long time before I trust Adobe with my money. CS4 Master Collection, that I was salivating over, that I was planning to save up for? I don't think so. CS5? Unlikely, until I have no other choice.
I would rather wait longer and get software that doesn't eat into my productivity with bugs and crashes.
That's okay. I've been venting away about this on Twitter and Facebook and LinkedIn and a web development group I'm on. I can warn others. Funny thing is, I'm getting so many responses from people going through nightmares of their own with CS4. Only a handful of people respond with, "I don't know what you're talking about! My CS4 has run flawlessly!" Only a handful. So sad.
