BEWARE!!! Online Bios update

Hi All
EDIT: Read through, it ends well.
EDIT: Hmmm, maybe not :( , I'll update when I know more.
I have a K9VGM-V and using online Bios-update, the update failed, but PC kept running.
Well, that OK, I thought, the update was checking the process and failed, so of course nothing have been done.
BUT.......
Next reboot I get only a black screen! :(
This is REALLY bad!
Now I have a useless MB.
I can't boot to anything at all.
I looked for a floppyversion of the Bios.
[bad language removed by moderator]
You can ONLY get online versions.
Which I can'r use, as I can't boot.
Even if I did find a floppy version, I still can't boot.
[bad language removed by moderator]
The only cause to this failure SHOULD BE powerout.
I simply can't believe that an update, does not AT LEAST make backup of running Bios and rollback if update fails.
DAMN, I'm disapointed.
I bet, that because it says "USE AT OWN RISK" when using online update, MSI will NOT reimburse me for my loss.
Hmmmmm, what other option is there than use at own risk??
There's no option to get floppyversions of the Bios.
It is simply NOT satisfying, that the only way to make BiosUpdates, delivered from MSI, is at own risk.
How am I supposed to make Biosupdates???
Where do I go??
Does anyone do it??
For free that is...
The update is there due to errors in the earlier Bios, so ofcourse I'm entitled to get a less error Bios.
But who is to make the update, if not myself, using software from MSI???
No, the error was NOT from powerloss, the update simply stated "Error"
THEN there should have been a rollback.
That didn't happen.
DAMN, I'm mad..........
I used to be happy about MSI, but this is probably the last board we ever sell, if we are nor reembursed for the [bad language removed by moderator] made by MSI themselves.

Frederik:
What I have in the system is hard to say.
I can't see anything now.
It is a costumer-PC I get in shop for updating.
MB is K9VGM-V
AMD Athlon 64
2 x 1GB RAM
I still say, when using the ONLY option MSI provides for Biosupdate, using MSI provided software.
Using online update it's point'n'click, no way to do it wrong.
Then it's MSI software that makes the error.
Every other updates I've ever made ALWAYS makes it possible to reverse/rollback, or doesn't make the update at all, if there's a chance of failure.
The only thing noone can do anything about, is powerfailure, which is not the case.
Just tried janking everything out.
Get errorbeep for RAM. (of course)
Put in RAM, Nothing.
Like VGA not working.
Put in a VGAcard (same as before) still nothing on screen, and no beeps.
I still say, this "Use at own risk" su...
How am I supposed to get the MB updated with a Bios, with less errors, if I don't do it???
the errors in the older Bios is Foult of MSI, in which case they are expected to correct them, which they do, but I can't make the update??
Then who can??
Sorry the harsh words, but it's late, and I'm looking real bad for the costumer.
Jakalwarrior:
Jep, found that out.
But the updateprogram didn't suggest that.

I'll look at your proposals, be back in 5.

  • HP Pavilion p7-1221 Desktop PC only boots with 1 ram stick in after bios update

Hello, I updated my BIOS because it was suggested by HP support.  My PC did not want to start afer that.  I did some reasearch and tried several things, like unplugging the power supply and taking out the CMOS battery.  I even referenced the beeping codes.  I narrowed it down to memory problems, "I think".  I took on out the sticks and made sure they were okay, placed them back and it booted.  The I shut it down and it would not boot again.  I took out one stick and it booted.  It's been several weeks now and I have to take out 1 stick and boot, turn power off and add the other stick and it boots.  What could be the problem?  I read it might be that the setting in the BIOS might be different somehow.  Perhaps HP overclocked my RAM or voltages issues.  I don't know.    Can anyone help me please? I'm not too computer literate so I would need someone to walk me through changing the settings in BIOS.

    Hi,
These are the bios settings for your PC. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03383166&lc=en&product=5272748&tmp...
You might try disabling Secure boot and then reboot a few times to make sure that everything is OK. Then enable Secure Boot again.
There is a chance that the bios update has a problem.  Try reflashing the BIOS or contacting HP Support.

  • HP Compaq 8510w BIOS Update failed, stuck in bootloop.

Let me begin with how this happened. I wanted to create a Hackintosh and decided to use my HP Compaq 8510w for that purpose. But since HP whitelists what WiFi cards you can use (OS X is not compatible with Intel), I had to flash a custom BIOS that removed the restrictions. This flashing worked though it would say it failed and should be flashed again. But it would still work and load everything correctly. I finally decided to restore the BIOS but the installation failed and the laptop is now stuck in a boot loop. I want to know is there any way I can recover the BIOS (WITHOUT SENDING THE UNIT IN FOR REPAIRS) or if I need to purchase a new Motherboard for it. I have tried using the Win+B recovery method though I might have done something wrong because the laptop takes no notice. Do I have to use a USB Floppy or can a Flashdrive be used?
    Thanks,
                     Mark

try it without naming the file. there is only one file that is a ROM filetype. That is the EUR5.14 file in the F5.14 BIOS update. There is also a F.5.11 available under XP.  The OS does not matter as this is  cross platform code that is loaded before the operating system.
If the preceding does not work then you wil have to go online and find a BIOS recovery company that is relatively local to you. Their websites cover what you need to do for them (provide a valid  ROM file. (perhaps a eeprom chip matching the one in your PC)
Going to this level is sometimes a bit too much for non techies as it requires acquiring and properly using a special tool to remove and install the CMOS eeprom chip. I have no idea what level of expertise you have.

  • T43 - BIOS Update Help

    Hello,
First time poster and I did the "search" funciton to find an answer but to no avail.  I have exhausted all the things online that I can dig up and would appreciate some guidance.
I need to admit first and foremost, I am not as techy as I'd like to be.  I just decided today to update some stuff to my Thinkpad T43 (LONG overdue...and I do mean long).  I am still running on the BIOS version 1.01.  Naive me thought that my laptop would update itself without me having to do anything.
So today, I updated my ThinkVantage to version 3.14 and was successful doing so.  I then did a "system update" to get all the necessary and critical updates for my T43.  When I tried to update to BIOS version 1.29, I followed all the necessary steps (listed on the Lenovo Support section).  At a certain point (each time), I would get a BIOS Update Error Message "The system power management is disabled.  The Process has been canceled."
I have no clue what this means.  I went to my power management (in the Control Panel) and can't seem to find how I can "enable" it.
I could sure use some advise and steps in order to correct this issue and update my BIOS version.
    Thank you,
    nova_grrl

Hello I am also getting this error: "The system power management is disabled. The process has been canceled."
My set up: ThinkPad T41 2378 DLU, running XP home. Current Embedded Controller version 3.01. Current Bios 3.19.
I am actually attempting to do a double update: Bios and  Embedded Controller.
Lenovo's support pages are contradictory on which to update first (The Embedded Controller READ ME page states: "If you need to update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller Program, update Embedded Controller Program first." http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/1rhj10ud.txt ; while the Bios Update READ ME page states the opposite: "If you need to update Embedded Controller Program as well as the BIOS, update BIOS first." http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/1ruj37us.txt)
I have chosen to update the Embedded Controller first because of what I have read on the Bios Update READ ME page: "This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 3.04 (or higher)", while the Embedded Controller page reads: "This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 3.13 (or higher)". I have the later not the former.
The embedded controller download page does not have a non diskette version, see http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS000738#. As you know, my laptop does not have a floppy diskette drive. In order to extract the 1rhj10ud.exe file I used the Virtual Floppy Drive (VFD) console. At the prompt I give the "start" command, followed by the "open" command to create a virtual floppy drive. All is good to here.
I run the 1rhj10ud.exe file by double clicking in my file browser. I am prompted to "Press ENTER to continue (read License agreement)". I go through the pages and finally type Y to agree to the terms. This takes me to a screen that states : "Insert a blank high-density diskette in drive a:. Press ENTER to extract,..." I press enter and get the following message: "100 percent Extraction Complete Press Y to do another copy" I press enter and the 3 1/2 Floppy appears in my file browser as (A drive. Inside A: I double click on the UPDTFLSH file which opens another dos window. I enter my "Supervisor Password". Then say "Yes" to the warning that I am about to update my Controller, and "Enter" after the next warning stating that the AC adaptor must be connected.
At this point I get an error message: "The system power managment is disabled. The process has been canceled."
I went back and rebooted. Went into the Bios Power controls and Disabled both the "Hybernate by Timer" and the "Timer wake with Batterh Operation" functions. And followed the above steps only to get the same error. In XP /Control Panel/Power Options Properties, I put the "Turn off monitor" and "Turn off disks" to "Never". Still the same error!
I do not know what to do now to carry on with this update. Thank you for any suggestions.

  • F.24 BIOS update for 2740p

I just received an email about a new version of the BIOS available for the 2740p.
When I ran the update, I was told that the version of the BIOS was not compatable with my system.
The drivers page has the last updated driver being F.23 for the BIOS.
Was the F.24 update put out before it was actually ready?

    PeterJD wrote:
I am trying to flash a new motherboard and the Bios update seems to be listed for F.O for 2012, but the last Bios I had was F.29 from 10/13 Sm Bios Version 2.7 Where can I find the F.29 Bios, my computer is unstable using F.0 and sometimes has trouble starting and periodocally shut down, but not a thrmal shut down.  Also crashes coming out of sleep mode.
If the community does not think the Bios is the problem then what could it be ?  I have alrready had the motherboard replaced and the laptop passes all diagnostic tests.   Any help or suggestions are appreciated.  Thank you.
You should as you did go to your P/N page driver and use the latest Bios listed there looking for bios not supported by your board is asking for trouble. And did you try to revert your current bios to a earlier version? Maybe that is what you should do before looking for a bios that isn't listed for your system.

  • Need traditional BIOS update for Qosmio F30-111

I would like to get the traditional BIOS update like described in BIOS update FAQ. I don't have windows installed for updating it. (and I don't want to install it)
Can someone supply it? 3.90 version.
    Thanks

    Hello
if you do not want to install windows and you need to run the bios update windows software , then you can try this method
    Instructions
    1. download the BIOS
    2. Unzip to root of USB flash drive (formatted as FAT32) {"P0041v390.exe" is inside "bios-20080505133719.zip" v3.90}
    3. Unplug the USB flash drive and power down.
    4. Insert the 32 bit Vista DVD and boot from it (you are not actually going to end up installing it or doing anything, this just gets you to the 32 bit WinPE environment)
    5. Click through until you get to the screen with the activate online checkbox and uncheck it.
    6. Connect the USB flash key to the computer
    7. Press Shift-F10 to open a command prompt
    8. Change to the correct drive for the USB flash drive
    9. type "P0041v390.exe" {or what ever} and press enter
    10. after the flash is complete, before letting the machine restart, EJECT the DVD. (remember, nothing was installed and nothing really happened except you had access to a 32 bit WinPE environment which you needed to flash the BIOS).
{color:#ff0000}I did not try this method , try it and tell me

Hi, i have a problem when i tried to upgrade mi BIOS with the sp6500.exe, but it crash, and my laptop doesnt start anymore. i Tried with a usb and the HP TOOLS and my laptop still dead....
I have a Chipmax 2 of EETOOLS, so i can reflash the w25q64fvsig chip whit the bios file (*.bin or *.fd) but the files i got from HP.com doesnt work (01961.bin and 01966.bin) , i think it must be encripted, decripted or assemble with some algorithm, because i have 2 pairs of files, (01961.bin & 01961.s12) and (01966.bin & 01966.s12)
The question is: how i get the *.bin for reflash the chip w25q64fvsig through these combination of files? Can any one solve this little problem?
I need just the instrucctions for assemble this file, and the problem is solved!

  • T450s won't boot after bios update

Just got my new t450s yesterday.  Booted it up today and connected to the internet.  Lenovo widget popped up and told me there was an update.  It said there was a new bios update. I walked through the UI steps and it installed the new bios and then went to reboot the machine.  Machine did not post.  Any attempt to power on gets a blank screen and 2 short beeps, pause, 3 short beeps.  The Green light on the power button is currently gently pulsing.  pressing and holding the power button does nothing.  Tried unpluging and replugging both the battery and the AC adaptor and no change.  help?

Guys, I just faced the same issue. My T450s was delivered to me this afternoon. I got it home and plugged it in and was prompted for the BIOS update while I was updating Windows. Went through the UI and the machine did not come up after shutting down for the update. I found this post online and tried to factory reset but did not get a response again. Things were getting crazy and I decided to try and remove the external battery and let it drain down. But I just thought of trying the factory reset after the external battery was removed and it worked!! The machine has booted up and went straight into installing the Windows updates and I found that the BIOS has been successfully updated too. Really weird!  Seems to be running fine now. But a scary way to start off!

  • MSI p55-gd65 1.8 bios update issue

    Here we go:
So I prompted myself to update my p55-gd65 bios from...either 1.6 or 1.7? to 1.8  I used the LiveUpdate Online feature on MSI's website.  Seemed to be fine after until my computer sometimes froze while watching streaming flash videos.
I thought it was caused by an outdate video driver so I updated it, either before or after the video update (can't remember) I shut down and reset the CMOS settings (took out the battery for +30sec), still froze.
Decided to Update the Intel 3/4/5 Chipset v9.1.1 provided by MSI, completely wiped the video driver, reinstalled it, still froze.  Wiped adobe flash player and cache from firefox, reinstalled flash...still froze.
I noticed too late that the LiveUpdate requires 32bit Win7.  and that the manual DL for the bios update I tried installing popped up with an OS incompatibility error.  Does v1.8 not support 64bit? or would it have been better for me to flash the bios update?
    Thanks for any help!

You have to use a wireless card under the exact part number (BIOS will reject any other and you get the error). The part number for Intel 6230 belongs to a different Intel wireless card (unfortunate error from HP). I think it's Intel 1030. Dv6-6000 series is the last series with the whitelist still in it. There is an Intel 6230 listed under a part number: 636672-001. Perhaps it will work.
edit: I have found Intel 6205 listed under 631954-001 but it's a pure wireless card, not a combo with bluetooth.

First off did you use your P/N to find your right modle/make? Then only then you should look at the BIOS in that location and it will tell you if you have a bios update or not. That is what you should to correctly find the find BIOS update for your system. Don't just search for BIOS update doing so is asking for trouble.

Yes, I understand.  Whether it is an AIO, laptop or desktop it will still have a hard drive or SSD drive.
By disconnecting the drive I am attempting to see if the boot is being hung up by the drive after the BIOS update.  On second thought, I see that accessing the hard drive is not a consumer accessible item with your model.  If your warranty is still active then I would recommend you contact Lenovo Support for additional assistance in fixing the problem.
