Bex Analyser vs query designer

Gurus,
1. Can some one enlighten me on the functionality of Analyser vs Query designer?
2. We have installed NW2004s (BI7) with the standard Business content. I want to see the data along with the graphs when I execute the queries.
I am able to create new web templates (using WAD) and use them in the EP, but do the standard reports (SAP delivered) have web templated assigned for them? How to activate them if this is the case.
I am able to see some charts when I open the same query using the analyser.
Please suggest any relevant documentation for me to read and understand.
Thanks.

  • Broadcasting to Enterprise Portal using Bex Broadcaster from Query Designer

I have already been able to broadcast from Query Designer using BEx Broadcaster to the portal based on a role or a user.
I select "Export into Enterprise Portal" as the Distribution Type.
I then select "Export Document to Personal Portfolio" and then enter a role.
Then I check "User-specific" because I want it to be user specific.
    This all works fine.
Now I get to my question.
Can I go one step further and broadcast to a folder call... lets say "Sales" inside of their Personal Portfolio?

    Hi Eric,
I have the same problem. Were you able to resolve it?

  • Can't add Characteristic to Selection - BEx 3.5 Query Designer on 7.0

    Hi Gang,
Strange problem. I am attempting to add a characteric to a selection in a BEx 3.5 Query. We use a BW 7.0 backend.
However, in Edit Selection, I am unable to drag and drop the characteristic from the left pane to the right one. No error message is displayed, but the mouse arrow changes to the circle and slash "forbidden" icon.
The characteristic is NOT already in the selection.
Without an error, it hard to research the problem.
    Thanks for your help!

    3) In Query Designer, if we try to make some changes to an existing query and try to save
we have the following error message -
'Terminate - The system tried to insert a data record, even though a
data record with the same primary key already exists.
Terminate - Program error is class SAPMSSY1 method: UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION'

  • How to analyse in Query Designer

    As per Query,
    1.
Deferred Holidays  = 'Deferred annual leave days' + ' Deferred annual leave days, / previous year' - 'Deferred holidays taken this year'
After executing query i am getting ansswe as "-1", but as per client it has to come as "0"
What is approach for analysing query
    2.
    Holidays left
*'Remaining annual leave, this year' + 'Remaining annual leave, old' - 'No. of paid annual l' - 'Deferred annual leave days'*
As per client  it has to be 38, but as per query we are getting 33
ALL THESE ARE MENTIONED IN COLUMNS ONLY.
What is approach for analysing query

    Hi Sri,
Narrow down your output, as you gave example like 0 or 38.
Check for same in your cube/DSO. E.g. if you are looking for this data based on employee then search for that emplyee info in your data provider.
Do the calculation on paper and confirm that data in cube is correct. If so then only you can be sure that problem is in the query.
then it will be easy fix, as you will have issue with your formula only. try to put all formula variable as individual column in report and then check the data.
If you reduce your result it will be easily identified for 1 record.
    Thanks,
    Vinod

  • BW 3.5, BEx Query designer issue with text of the characteristics

    Hi All,
We are currently using BEx 3.5 Query Designer to design the queries. We have one of the ODS on which we are querying for.
We have 3 different types of Customer in this ODS. 0Customer, 0BBP_CUSTOMER and 0GN_CUSTOMER. The problem is when we open this ODS in Query designer we see their text name on the left hand side column where it shows data fields as the same text name Customer.
Now the our Power users have raised the issue that it is very confusing even when there are 3 different technical names for these characteristics.
    2 Questions I have.
    1) Why is something like this happening? is it some issue with the Patch or something. We will be migrating to new BI soon but in the mean time if I could resolve it that will be the best. Or does it even get resolved with new BI???
    2) what is the way in which we can resolve it?
Thanks in advance and points will be given generously.

    HI BI Consul!
Things like this happen, when it is called customer it could be different customers, 0customer is the standard R/3 customer and 0BBP_customer is objects from CRM and most likely 0GN_Customer might be customer from different system.
Sure, power users should be told which customer is customer and you could also change the discription of the object, to match the definition on the other system. You could also just create z object and replace the existing confusing object with something meaningful to users.
    thanks.

  • How to disable Wizard in Ad-hoc Query Designer

    Hi everybody,
I am using the Bex Ad-hoc Query Designer in a web application. The users should be able to define their own queries, but just for one info provider. I selected the info provider in the properties of the ad-hoc query designer in the web template.
Now the users are able to create queries for all info providers with the wizard.
Is it possible to disable the wizard or to disable all buttons at the top of the ad-hoc query designer.
    Thanks in advance,
    Joerg

This can be done using the security for the Infoprovider,  provide the users access to create queries only for that Infoprovider.

  • Cumulated Characteristic in Query Designer

I have a query in BEx 3.5 query design that has a characteristic in rows with a property of 'cumulated'.
I am trying to create similar query using BEx 7.0 Query Designer but don;t see the optino to set property of a characteristic to 'cu,ulative' anywhere.
(I don;t want to set on KF level.)
I have tried following correction from OSS note 1450906 but that doesn;t seem to be helping.
Is this possible in7.0 with latest patches? Where would i set for cumulative characteristic?

    Hello,
I have the same problem with Flat mode is not supported! at ... Characteristic.setHierarchy(Characteristic.java:335):
Open, close, reload of the query does not help.
Other SDN-thread "500 Internal Sever - Flat Mode is not Supported!" related to transaction RSRT.
Execution of query via RSRT works, but the problem still persists in the BEx Web Analyzer.
Could be related to a BEx Web Analyzer "bookmark" ("Personalize Web Application").
I have not deleted any item. We use SAP BW 7.0 with a patch level approx. 09.2009.
The "flat-mode" seems to be the  "BEx table mode".
SAP hints do not seem to fit here:
    - 715820 BW 3.x Front-End Patch 14 (we use BW 7.0)
    - 874825 SAPBWNews for BW 3.x Front-End Support Package 19
    - 874827 SAPBWNews for BW 3.5 Front-End Patch 08 (we use BW 7.0)
    - 905229 update to SAPTableTree
    - 909824 Termination in flat mode when an object is deleted (old?)
    - 909827 Incorrect InfoProvider-dependent characteristic values
    - 910602 Condition includes too many characteristics (usage of deleted elements)
    - 915215 Termination when a query definition is changed (old? visibility of elements?)
    - 968273 Cache with flat files: Exception is not caught (does not apply to given error)
    Any new solutions?

  • BEx Query Designer and Exceptions

I have a simple enough task.  I was tasked, with marking items on a query with an exception, however the value is not static.  I have a column marked hours, and five columns for each day of the week.  The current day with data should yield an exception if the current day has less hours the the calculated hours column.  So my first approach was to create a formula where I evaluate both the hours calculated from the query and the current day. I called this field fday1.  I created an exception stating that if fday1 = 1 then to mark the field Bad3.  but I want the affected structure to be the Actual Day such my column days are: Day 1 (current date), Day 2 (current date + 1) etc... but when I visit the query (ie, adhoc query) only the formula field fday1 has the exception day triggered.  In the exceptions list  I define the keyfigure fDay1 (time of evaluation [before list calculation]) Under the display tab I have exception affects data cells for the following structure elements: Day 1 (current date).
like If I execute this query through the portal the exception shows up correctly on the proper field.  if I execute the query through the adhoc (BEx Ad Hoc Analysis) view, then the wrong field has the exception.
any thoughts on a better way to approach this query?

Nobody has a solution in order to highlight the whole row (characteristic and key figures) for a value of a key figure ?
With WAD or Query Designer, I'm trying to highlight a line with an exception on a key figure but it apparently colors only key figures.
For example i would have entire colored rows for negative key figure :
    field1:a field2:x field3:e key_figure:1
    field1:b field2:x field3:e key_figure:7
    field1:b field2:y field3:e key_figure:-5
    field1:d field2:z field3:j key_figure:1
I can use WAD or Query Designer but not Visual Composer or Report Designer...
    Thanks for help.

how to use report designer using bex analyser  give screenshots  details

    Hi,
As per my understanding you want to see Query Designer when you execute the query in BEx Analyzer.
When you launch BEx analyzer, you should be able to see  new tab of "Business Explorer" in your Toolbar.
So,when you execute the query in BEx analyzer,in order to goto query designer screen, click on Tab "Business Explorer",select option "Change Query" and then select the option "ChangeQuery (Global Definition)".
It will open the query designer in which you can modify the query and save it.

  • Execution of BEx Query Designer Querys in BI Java SDK

    Hello experts,
i am actually occupying with the possibilities of the BI Java SDK. I checked the documentation but could not find an answer to my question, so i address this issue now to the community in the hope, that someone out there can give me a hint:
Is it possible to execute a BI query, which was designed in the BEx query designer, within the BI Java SDK OLAP query api?
Is  there somewhere a method, which could be simply passed the technical names of the infocube and  the query and then returns the query result as a IBIResultSet or IBIDataSet?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    best regards,
    Thilo

    Hello Mohan,
thanks for this impression - thats a way i didn't think about at all before. I even think, that it is not necessary to publish the query as iview - it would suffice to invoke the BEx-AdHoc-Analysis Service via a HttpConnection-Object within a servlet and then parse the result delivered by the BEx service. You won't even need BI Java SDK for this, since this is plain Java functionality.
But as i see there seems to exist no BI Java SDK-"generic" possibility to invoke an existing query as i see....
If anybody has got another idea, it is very welcome. But i think i will investigate on the approach with the native HTTP call to AdHoc Service.
    Thanks anyway & best regards,
    Thilo
