Bex Analyzer - Broadcast Creation User

Hi folks,
Appreciate any insight or best practice on this one.
In creating an information Broadcast schedule (BW 3.5) is it most common to use an individual business account or a common generic account to create broadcasts.
We have the issue of traceablity/accountabilty with the generic user.
Thanks !

Then I seem to have misunderstood the scenario. Sorry.
Using the logged on user to submit a job is nothing new and okay. Using it to schedule a periodic job is a rather ugly design, but as long as you are not deleting the user ID you can move it into a secure "retired" user group.
But ideally you would want to apply an administrator lock or restrict validity and then lock the idle password (perhaps better...).
> Wondering what the typical approach is for a standard  generic or the named business user.
The named business user is always better IMO, as long as it does not conflict with other requirements or create dependencies on keeping itself "alive".
I would suggest moving this thread (I can do that for you) to the BI-BEX forum to continue the discussion and see what other gurus there think about it and which solutions they have found to work best (althought security might not be the initial or main focus).
Do you agree?
Cheers,
Julius

During my weekly prowl of the SMP, I noticed [SAP Note 1059623|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1059623] ... which seems to describe the restraints (using external authentication for internal connections) and what you are looking for.
I would be curious to know what you BI-Bex gurus think of this from a design perspective?

ps: This is a nice example why you should not duplicate post accross the forums. There are many experts in the forums who will help you but don't have the powers to lock threads or move them when appropriate, and when they notice cross-posting then they might move on to something less chaotic and less random...

  • BEx Analyzer for Power Users

    Hi
My Power users have been given access to design their queries in Bex Designer and publish via the web.
For no reason, they don't have access to run their queries via Bex Analyzer. I am trying to push for them to have access to Bex Analyzer but I need some concrete reasons for them to be able to have this. I have always been a fan of being able to develop in BEx and immediately view in BEx
Can anyone think of advantages or reasons why the Power Users should view in Bex Analyzer?

The BEx Analyzer would give the users the power of BW and with it the power of XL. This could be a very good option when one is faced with a very rigid formatting requirement. One can use the BEx/workbook combination to design a formatted report which could otherwise have not been possible with the web. Of course some formatting features are as I understand are provided with the new report designer in NW04s, but XL could still be powerful for this.
Some developments in BW could be avoided if we use XL like when you have to manipulate data from multiple areas and queries. For instance, you could have a sales query, a Finance query and even a purchasing query in a workbook and do some calculations with the data. If you were to do it in the QAD, you might have to have created a multicube with all the above and then write a query.
In addition to that one can use the macro feature of xl and carry out further formatting/analysing/processing of the data
    Cheers

  • BEx Analyzer: Exchange characteristics with design item "Button"

    Hello everyone,
I am creating a workbook with the BEx Analyzer. The user should be able to exchange one characteristic with another one by a button click (e.g. replace the drilldown of characteristic product group by a drilldown of customers).
I inserted a button in the design mode and edited it with the command wizard.
In the area for the static parameters I inserted the following:
    Name/Index/Value
    DATA_PROVIDER/1/DP_1
    CMD/1/EXCHANGE
    IOBJNM_1/1/Product Group
    IOBJNM_2/1/Customer
I tried several variations of this, but they all didn't work.
Does anyone know how to define such a command?
Thanks in advance for your answer,
    Rainer

    Hi,
Button Design item is used to perform three types of functionalities
    1. Workbook specific Commands : these are helpful in performing any changes or navigations in the workbook. For example moving from one sheet to another on the click of the button can be realised.
    2. Planning Specific Commands : these are used mostly when a planning scenario is realized using the Bex workbook. Planning commands usually would be to save data in the workbook created on an input ready query to the plan cube, or to execute a planning function or a sequence.
    3. Data provider specific commands : Commands used to change data based on a spcfiic dataprovider.
Let me know if you are looking at anything else other than this.

  • Broadcasting in EXCEL export to PDF, Bex Analyzer

    Hi!
The user wants to export the Bex Analyzer Workbook (excel) to PDF... HOW CAN I DO IT???
    Thanks a lot...

    Hi Leticia,
Here's are some things you can do with Broadcaster...
    1.  Broadcast a workbook from BEx Analyzer (must have Precalc Server set up for this).   You cannot Broadcast in .pdf format from an Excel workbook.  There will be no option in Broadcaster for that.
    2.  Broadcast a .pdf from Report Designer where your Excel query needs to be highly formatted.  Create the Enterprise (RD) report first from your query, then you can Broadcast from there.
    3.  Broadcast a .pdf from Query Designer.  Open the query and create a Broadcast Setting from the query itself and select .pdf as the format.  The only difference between this and #2 above is that the .pdf won't be so nicely formatted as the Report Designer version of the query.  However, you don't have to go to the trouble of creating the Enterprise (RD) version of the report using this option.
    4.  Broadcast a .pdf from a Web Template.  You could publish the query to the Web and then create the Broadcast setting from the Web Template and select .pdf as the format.
    5.  Also Broadcast in other formats (i.e. Excel (XML), Portal, etc.) from Query Designer, etc.
The best looking (nicest format) .pdf would be Broadcast from a Report Designer version of the Query.  The nicest Excel version would be from a Workbook within BEx Analyzer (where it would be Broadcast exactly the way it looks in BEx).  But, per my comments above, you have other options.  These of course are not every option but only pertain to your question about Broadcasting as a .pdf.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to prevent a portal user from using the BEx Analyzer ?

    Hi,
we have different type of users : most users may use the portal as well
    as the analyzer ;
we have one special user with extended authorizations : this user
should use the portal , where he has a limited set of queries to run
with hardcoded filters ==> this user should not be able to use the
analyzer however, since he then would be able to call all other queries
    by using the find function ;
how can we make sure this user cannot use the analyzer , using SAP
    authorizations ?
    best regards,
    Erwin Van Giel.

    Hi,
if I remove the complete S_RFC authorization for the user then the BEx Analyzer cannot connect anymore to the BW system, but neither can the user run reports from the portal : it needs the S_RFC with 'SYST'.
If I only remove the RRMX from the S_TCODE and from the S_RFC, it does not prevent the user from starting the BEx Analyzer and connecting to the BW system. It only stops the user if he would start the RRMX transaction from within an SAPGUI session.
Perhaps there should be a value in the S_RFC that allows connections from the portal but not from the BEx Analyzer .... ?
    so not solved yet ....
    best regards,
    Erwin.

  • BEx Analyzer: User ID based performance issue

    Hello Ladies and Gents,
    <b>The issue:</b>
My BW team just upgraded our system to 2004s and we are experiencing an odd userid based performance issue.  If we run a query from the BEx Analyzer with user ID 'A' it takes about 3min for the variable selection screen to appear. If I log into the same machine user ID 'A' was using on my user ID B the query variable selection screen appears within seconds. What could possibly cause this?
    <b>What we know so far:</b>
    1. Investigated the security roles, seems like that is not the issue.
    2. It is PC client independent.  Two different user IDs(A and B) on the same machine running the same query in the same way (clicking through the BEx browser) produces different response times for the appearance of the variable selection screen.
Points will be rewarded and help will be greatly appreciated!

User specific personalization is retrieved before displaying the input variables. That might be a possibility, but hard to see it making such a difference.  Do you always try the sequence of User A, then User B, or have you confirmed that when you start with User B, it is quick, and tehn slow whne trying User A?
Probably the best approach is to activate Trace and then logon with User A, turn trace off and print or save, then do the same thing for User B and compare.  The trace will show you all the various SQL stmts and such that run as part of your trying to launch the query.
Please post back anything you learn.
Some info on Personalization  for the Help pages.
    Personalization in BEx
    Use
This function allows users to fill variables with user-specific values, to save user-specific accesses to BI objects for the history view in the BEx Open dialog box, and to save user-specific start views for Web applications.
    Integration
The personalized data is stored in different DataStore objects, according to the personalization area.
    ·        User-specific variable values are stored in the DataStore object 0Pers_VAR.
    ·        Personalized data for the history view is stored in the DataStore object 0Pers_BOD.
    ·        Personalized start views for the Web application are stored in the DataStore object 0Pers_WTE.

  • BEx Broadcaster is disabled in BEx Analyzer

    Dear all,
The BEx Broadcaster function in the BEx Analyzer is disabled. It works fine in the Query Designer. Is there any one know how to enable it or is there any configuration that I should do?

    Look into the SAP Help.
"The Broadcaster option is only visible when a workbook is open. If you only open a query in the BEx Analyzer, this broadcasting option is not available."

  • Setting Default Global Settings for Bex Analyzer 7 for all users

We need to set default settings for Bex Analyzer Global Settings when we install SAP-GUI 7.2 in our user's workstations. The current default settings are that all of them are turned off. We would rather not have to run around and change each of our 1,000 user's settings.

Just so any one is looking for the correct solution and it worked for me.
Small correction to the information in the OSS note 1254112.
for setting the legacy version setting use the below string in the registry
"LAUNCH_VERSION" = "LEGACY"  insted of "LaunchLegacyVersion"

  • Broadcast in BEX Analyzer

We are running on BI 7.0 SP10.
Bex Analyzer 7.0 is running and dashboards are usings.
Is it possible to broadcast BEX Analyzer reports within dashboard

You can Broadcast BEx Analyzer Workbooks, for this you need BEx Precalculation Server installed.
Check out the How to Doc from Prakash for details.

  • Bex broadcaster in bex analyzer

    Dear all,
I have created a report in bex analyzer. I want to add this report to portal, therefore  i need to select bex broadcasting from excel bex analyzer menu.
    My questions are as follows:
    1) As i read in document, i can put analyzer reports in portal. Is it correct?
    2) In excel bex analyzer menu, my bex broadcaster menu item is in display mode. Why can it be like this?
    Thanks

You can directly add the BEx query to the portal. While creating iview there is an option for BEx query also. Just select your query there and you can access this query through portal. For that Broadcaster option present in BEx analyzer I m still searching how to use it.

  • Using Variants Created in BEx Analyzer in BEx Broadcaster

We are experiencing an issue where variants created in BEx Analyzer are not available to be selected in BEx Broadcasting.
What we are trying to achieve is when we have a Variant that is created in BEx Analyzer, we want to use the same variant in our BEx Broadcaster, which is found under the Tab General Precalculation and the option Determine from Variants.
For some background, we are on NW04S Patch 9 with BEx Front End 3.5 Patch 10.
Does anyone have any inisight on this issue?
    Thanks.

    Please disregard question.

  • Find the User ID through which the end user logged in BEx Analyzer?

I want to fetch the end user USERID who is executing the query. I am the end user and want to view a report, so I will login into BEx Analyzer with my userid and start executing query. Is there any way I can find that ID, in any table, program, function module or some where........?
I don't want 'created by', 'last changed by'. I want ID through which end user is logging into in Analyzer.
Also if the end user is logging in through RSRT wanted to know the SAP login user ID through which the user logged in?

    Hi,
If you want to see the end user id that is running the query, and then open the workbook, select Layout from the menu u2013 Display Text elements. Click on All (or General, Filters or Variables based on your requirement). It will display the technical name, info provider, current user details. You can save it as existing work book transport to production, then when this query executed you can find end user login id.
May be you can check RSRWBTEMPLATE table for workbook users details. Mostly end user will not have access to RSRT.
    Hope it helps you
    Thanks

  • BEx Analyzer variable screen not showing for user

    Hello,
I have a BEx query that shows the variable screen to enter the query parameters when I run the query but when the user runs it, he is not given the variable screen and therefore cannot enter the variables.  Both the user and myself are running the query in BEx Analyzer (Excel).
The user is new to BEx.  Is there perhaps some security or role setting that needs to be changed?  Something else?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi Paul,
I am also facing exactly the same problem as you were facing. Could you please tell, whether your problem got solved? If yes, then would you please provide the solution for the same?
    Thanks in advance,

  • User not able to login to Bex Analyzer

    Dear Experts,
The user was facing the problem where he was not able to login to Bex Analyzer in only Quality system.
He was able to login in Dev and Prod systems.can i please have the reason for the same.
    Regards,
    Sunil Kumar.B

    Hi  SunilKumar ,
RFC connection error issue was stated by you. Basis team takes care when RFC issue occurs. But you are able to login for the same system so RFC Connection should not be the issue.
Regarding the point of user being unable to login  ; it may be due to authorization issue which is also handled by basis team. So I suggested you to take their help and find out if the user is having the proper authorizations for the quality system as well.
    Regards,
    Arpit
