BEx Browser in New GUI

Hi,
In GUI 6.4 we have BEx Browser, but in New GUI 7.1 BEx Browser is not available, so in case if we want to use the BEx Browser in GUI 7.1 how can we use it.
In our system we are not using WAD and are not connected to Portals, so how can i use the BEx Browser with the NEW GUI.
Thanks,
AM

Hi,
in GUI 7.10 the 3.x-Tools are included as add-in of the Front-End so install this and you get your old BexBrowser!
But as mentioned it works only for 3.x-Workbooks!

    Hello,
I am using SAP GUI for JAVA v 6.40 R2.2 on a Linux desktop. But during the installation it doesn't ask for BW Bex installation option (as in SAP GUI for Windows). Is it the case that BW Bex is not supported in Linux Environment? If it is then kindly suggest some way to install the same.

  • What is difference between bex analyser and bex browser

what is difference between bex analyser and bex browser . please explain what are use of both and what we do in both.

    hi
    Bex Browser
The Business Explorer Browser (BEx Browser) makes it possible for you to access all document types of the Business Information Warehouse that are assigned to your role or that you have stored in your favorites. You can select and open documents assigned to you in the BEx Browser or store and manage new documents in the BEx Browser.
Document types that you can work with in the BEx Browser are:
    · BW workbooks
    · Documents that are stored in the Business Document Service (BDS)
    · Links (references to file system, shortcuts)
    · Links to internet sites (URLs)
    · SAP transaction calls.
    · Web applications and Web templates
    · Crystal Reports
    Bex Analyser
The Business Explorer Analyzer (BEx Analyzer) is the analysis and reporting tool of the Business Explorer that is embedded in Microsoft Excel.
    Features
You can call up the BEx Query Designer in the BEx Analyzer, in order to define queries. Subsequently, you can analyze the selected InfoProvider data by navigation to the query created in the Query Designer and create different query views of the data. You can add the different query views for a query or for different queries to a work book and save them there. You can save the workbook in your favorites or in your role on the BW Server. You can also save the workbook locally on your computer.
Beyond that, you can precalculate the workbook and distribute it by e-mail to recipeients or you can export it to the Enterprise Portal and make it accessible to other employees in the company.
You can start queries in a standard view (with a Standard Web Template set up in Customizing) in the Web browser and forward the URL or continue to navigate on the Web. Similarly, you can export the Web query to MS Excel 2000.
Overview of the Functional Area of the BEx Analyzer:
    ·        BEx toolbar
You access the functions of the BEx Analyzer from the BEx toolbar, which takes you to the BEx Open dialog box where you can open existing queries, or to the BEx Query Designer where you can create new queries or change existing queries.
    ·        Evaluating Query Data
The BEx Analyzer offers convenient functions for evaluating and presenting InfoProvider data interactively. In the BEx Analyzer, you can add queries to workbooks, navigate within them and refresh the data. You can also process the queries further in Microsoft Excel or display them in the Web browser in a default view.
Navigation of a query allows you, for example, to filter characteristics on a single value, drilldown on all values for a characteristic, regroup characteristics and key figures in the rows and columns of the results area, or hide key figures. Navigation results in different views of the InfoProvider data. In addition, a range of further functions is available which allow you to edit a query interactively (for example, sorting, cumulated output, among others). In addition, you can use the editing functions in Microsoft Excel in order to set up individual format templates, to print results areas, or to create graphics.
    ·        Queries in Workbooks
Queries are inserted into workbooks so you can display them. When you insert a query, a link is made between the cell areas of the worksheet and the data of the InfoProvider upon which the query is based. A link therefore exists between the Business Explorer and the Business Information Warehouse Server (BW Server).
When inserting a query into the workbook, a VBA routine is automatically generated in the workbook. You can also connect the Business Explorer with your own VBA programs (Visual Basic for Applications).
You can create workbook templates, into which you can insert your queries. Workbook templates can contain pre-determined items for the area of the query, formatting settings, logos, VBA macros, and so on.
    ·        Precalculating workbooks
You can precalculate and distribute workbooks with the BEx Broadcaster, which is a Web application you get to form the BEx toolbar. The system generates MS Excel workbooks with historical data. You determine the time for precalculation yourself: You can have workbooks precalculated at a predefined time or they can be precalculated whenever data in the underlying InfoProvider changes. You can have the precalculated workbooks sent by e-mail or you can export them into the Enterprise Portal, where you can make them available to employees within your company.
    Activities
To start the BEx Analyzer, choose Start ® Programs ® SAP Front-end Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Business Explorer Analyzer.
You can also access the BEx Analyzer via SAP Easy Access ® SAP Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Menu ® Business Explorer ® Analyzer or in the Business Explorer Browser using the Business Explorer Analyzer symbol in the menu bar.

  • BEx Browser BEx Workbook: No "Insert Entire Row" Option

We have a workbook with 2 queries embedded in it. Query 1 starts on Row 10 and Query 2 starts on Row 15. When the workbook is launched from Analyzer, we receive a popup window that has the title "SAP BEx: Not Enough Cells to Display Results" and it provides us with 3 options:
    1) Overwrite Existing Cells
    2) Insert cells below the results area
    3) insert entire rows
When we launch the same workbook through BEx Browser, this popup window does not appear, which causes the results to be displayed in error.
I was wondering if anyone came across this situation and what was your fix.
We do not have the option of moving the queries to separate tabs on the workbook.  We have also attempted to write a macro that would launch both queries with many, many rows between them and then have the macro delete the blank rows in between them so that the two queries are together in the worksheet.  But the issue here is that the macro works when we launch the Workbook through BEx Analyzer, but when the same workbook is launched through BEx Browser, the macro is not processed.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi P-Dup,
Just pass by and see this thread, maybe this helps you: I have the same issue, I simply remove the query from its worksheet, create a new worksheet and insert this same query in the new worksheet. It works then for me. (You might reuse the same worksheet, but I prefer clean one).
Please note that if you have other worksheets with formula refering to this query, the query worksheet should be copied to another worksheet and these formula should be link to this result worksheet (search and replace). It is not good to refer directly to the query worksheet though. Otherwise you would loose the references.
    Hope that helps you.
    Cheers

  • Bex Browser and roles

    Hello All,
We currently use the BEx browser to deploy the queries and workbooks to all the users.
We have set the auth object S_USER_AGR with the value '03 - Display' only.
However, what we are observing that the users are having the capability to move workbooks from their favorites to the roles.
When we run a trace for authorization check, it is checking the above auth object and shows a value being returned for 01 - Create, 02 - Change, 06 - Delete.
    Object           Text
    S_USER_AGR RC=0  ACT_GROUP=NY_BW_WP_QUERY_USER;ACTVT=02;
    S_USER_AGR RC=0  ACT_GROUP=NY_BW_WP_QUERY_USER;ACTVT=01;
    S_USER_AGR RC=0  ACT_GROUP=NY_BW_WP_QUERY_USER;ACTVT=06;
However, in the above mentioned role, the only value assigned is 03 - Display.
The users have no other roles which would override the values.
We want to ensure that the users DO NOT have the capability to save the work books from their favorites to any roles.
    Any ideas?
    Sunil

  • Bex Browser in NW2004s

    Dear Prakash,
Can I still use the BEx Browser (Windows Version) in SAP NetWeaver BI
    2004s?
The BEx Browser is on maintenance. There are no new features
developed and  the tool is phased out. You can still use it in NW 2004s BI for
queries, templates and workbooks developed with the 3.x BEx Tools and for
queries,  templates and workbooks developed with the new NW2004s BEx Tools.
However it  is not recommended. SAP recommends to use the Portal infrastructure
of  NetWeaver as a user- and role-specific single point of entry for BI
    users.
Can you please clarify us below points on Bex browser or direct us where
    we can find this information.
    1) SAP recommends to use the Portal Infrastructure inplace of Bex
browser ( as explained above in FAQ). Does this mean, we need to install  the portal components .
    2) Is Bex browser runs on NW 2004s without 3.x runtime (i.e without ABAP
runtime) or do we need to have ABAP runtime.
    3) Is there any time frame for phasing out  Bex browser.
    Regards
    Madhukar

The BEx Browser is still available and works, but SAP recommends not to use it because it is fairly dated technology.
    1. If you're on SAP NetWeaver 2004s, you will have 4 usage types installed: AS-ABAP, AS-JAVA, BI-JAVA, and EP. You cannot run 04s without the portal. So if you don't install the portal components, you can't use any new features or functionality. This is explained in lots of details in the FAQ: http://service.sap.com/bifaq
    2. BEx Browser is a client based tool. Workbooks are launched in the respective BEx Analyzer you have flagged as your default, but again, it isn't recommended to use it.
    3. No specific time frame, but again, it isn't recommended to use it.
See phase 7 in this blog:
    /people/prakash.darji/blog/2006/09/22/rolling-out-the-new-sap-netweaver-2004s-bi-frontend-tools
I talk specifically about workbooks on the portal.

  • Adding workbook in Bex Browser

    Hi
My requirement is i have to add a new workbook under a particular role in Bex Browser How can i do that please help with the steps
    Thanks
    Sheetal

    Sheetal,
Bear in mind that you will need designer access to add a workbook to a role.
Do you know you can also add a workbook to a role from the BEx Analyser? When you workbook is to be saved just select Save - New Workbook - and place it in the required role. It will appear in the Browser in that role.

  • Bex Browser Views

    Hello,
We're experiencing an issue when user goes into the BEx Browser and saves a View. The problem is that the View is automatically saved to the "InfoArea". There is no option to save to "Favorites".
Is there a way to prompt the user to choose either "Favorites" or "InfoAreas"? prior to the saving the View? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Jason Chuang

I am not as concerned about whether it is saved as a workbook or view. If I select Save a New Workbook in BEX Analyzer, it allows you to save in Favorites. When I select save in BEX Web, it does not give me an option and saves it under Roles.
I just want users to be able to save workbooks, views, etc. to their Favorites folder and not under the public roles.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Wes

    Hi Sumit,
Thanks for the reply the blog was a great starter for me, but my primary concern is like when u open a KM doc its displayed in a browser right like IE or Firefox, which has all file options like save as, print etc, now my task is to make the docs available to only a limited no of ppl who can only see them but cannot save it, for this i have been asked to display the KM docs in a new GUI which lacks all these options.I know tht we can use some scripting to block the browser options and disable the keyboard strokes even but i donot know how to integrate these scripts to where and how far is this approach feasable?
Can you please help me out with this or else suggest me an alternate method of doing this using out KM layouts?
    Thanks in advance
