Bex browser in NW04s

Hi All,
SAP recommends that there will be no need to use BEx browser in BI 7.0(NW04s). BEx browser can be accessed using Portal. Does anybody know how to replicate BEx browser in Portal. I have tried using 'Role upload' option. But not all features of BEx browser come up. Any other solution to this problem. Please help.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,
You might like to investigate a third-party "Powered by SAP Netweaver"-certified solution produced by my company called "bNavigator".
You can install it in the portal and it will replicate all functionality that can came with the BEx Browser, plus it provides many additional unique benefits that complement the existing functionality of the Portal.
Install, configuration and golive can be completed across the Enterprise within a few hours and the solution is not expensive.
If you would like to download a 60-day trial version and read more about the benefits, please go to www.bnavigator.com.
If you are attending next weeks SAP Netweaver BI and Portals 2007 conference in Las Vegas, you can visit us and test-drive the latest bNavigator Release 3.0 at Booth #626.
Please contact me offline is you would like more information. My SDN Business Card includes my contact details.

• Replacement for BEx Browser in BI 7.0

Hello.
I'm at a customer that will upgrade their system from BW 3.1 to BI 7.0.
Nowadays they have a lot of workbooks published in the BEx Browser.
I understand the BEx Browser is not longer available for use in NW04s - BI 7.0.
How can I have the same functionality of BEx Browser ( a single point of entry for all my workbooks) in BI 7.0?. is it a mix between KM and the BEx Broadcaster?.
They needed a "pull tool" and the BEx Broadcaster is a "push tool". doesn't it?
Kind regards
Rebeca

Hi,
You can also look at implementing bNavigator which has been developed by Entelsoft, as a BEx browser replacement.
bNavigator does not aim to compete with the Enterprise Portal - rather it is complementary with some unique advantages. It has "Powered by Netweaver" certification for installation in the Enterprise Portal or it can run standalone on the SAP Netweaver J2EE Application Server that comes with BI 7.0.
More information can be found at www.bnavigator.com.
Cheers
Adrian
[P.S. I work for Entelsoft, so my apologies if this comes across as a shameless plug :)...Please feel free to take any discussion on bNavigator off-line, by submitting your queries via the Entelsoft Website

• What is difference between bex analyser and bex browser

what is difference between bex analyser and bex browser . please explain what are use of both and what we do in both.

hi
Bex Browser
The Business Explorer Browser (BEx Browser) makes it possible for you to access all document types of the Business Information Warehouse that are assigned to your role or that you have stored in your favorites. You can select and open documents assigned to you in the BEx Browser or store and manage new documents in the BEx Browser.
Document types that you can work with in the BEx Browser are:
· BW workbooks
· Documents that are stored in the Business Document Service (BDS)
· Links (references to file system, shortcuts)
· Links to internet sites (URLs)
· SAP transaction calls.
· Web applications and Web templates
· Crystal Reports
Bex Analyser
The Business Explorer Analyzer (BEx Analyzer) is the analysis and reporting tool of the Business Explorer that is embedded in Microsoft Excel.
Features
You can call up the BEx Query Designer in the BEx Analyzer, in order to define queries. Subsequently, you can analyze the selected InfoProvider data by navigation to the query created in the Query Designer and create different query views of the data. You can add the different query views for a query or for different queries to a work book and save them there. You can save the workbook in your favorites or in your role on the BW Server. You can also save the workbook locally on your computer.
Beyond that, you can precalculate the workbook and distribute it by e-mail to recipeients or you can export it to the Enterprise Portal and make it accessible to other employees in the company.
You can start queries in a standard view (with a Standard Web Template set up in Customizing) in the Web browser and forward the URL or continue to navigate on the Web. Similarly, you can export the Web query to MS Excel 2000.
Overview of the Functional Area of the BEx Analyzer:
· BEx toolbar
You access the functions of the BEx Analyzer from the BEx toolbar, which takes you to the BEx Open dialog box where you can open existing queries, or to the BEx Query Designer where you can create new queries or change existing queries.
· Evaluating Query Data
The BEx Analyzer offers convenient functions for evaluating and presenting InfoProvider data interactively. In the BEx Analyzer, you can add queries to workbooks, navigate within them and refresh the data. You can also process the queries further in Microsoft Excel or display them in the Web browser in a default view.
Navigation of a query allows you, for example, to filter characteristics on a single value, drilldown on all values for a characteristic, regroup characteristics and key figures in the rows and columns of the results area, or hide key figures. Navigation results in different views of the InfoProvider data. In addition, a range of further functions is available which allow you to edit a query interactively (for example, sorting, cumulated output, among others). In addition, you can use the editing functions in Microsoft Excel in order to set up individual format templates, to print results areas, or to create graphics.
· Queries in Workbooks
Queries are inserted into workbooks so you can display them. When you insert a query, a link is made between the cell areas of the worksheet and the data of the InfoProvider upon which the query is based. A link therefore exists between the Business Explorer and the Business Information Warehouse Server (BW Server).
When inserting a query into the workbook, a VBA routine is automatically generated in the workbook. You can also connect the Business Explorer with your own VBA programs (Visual Basic for Applications).
You can create workbook templates, into which you can insert your queries. Workbook templates can contain pre-determined items for the area of the query, formatting settings, logos, VBA macros, and so on.
· Precalculating workbooks
You can precalculate and distribute workbooks with the BEx Broadcaster, which is a Web application you get to form the BEx toolbar. The system generates MS Excel workbooks with historical data. You determine the time for precalculation yourself: You can have workbooks precalculated at a predefined time or they can be precalculated whenever data in the underlying InfoProvider changes. You can have the precalculated workbooks sent by e-mail or you can export them into the Enterprise Portal, where you can make them available to employees within your company.
Activities
To start the BEx Analyzer, choose Start ® Programs ® SAP Front-end Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Business Explorer Analyzer.
You can also access the BEx Analyzer via SAP Easy Access ® SAP Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Menu ® Business Explorer ® Analyzer or in the Business Explorer Browser using the Business Explorer Analyzer symbol in the menu bar.
Hope this will solve your issu

• BEx Browser content in KM

We have used the BEx Browser extensively over the past 10 years to keep track of all our queries, links and workbooks.
Now we are taking the first steps towards the use of KM. And we face the problem of accessing all these queries through a KM file.
We can broadcast a query or publish it to the portal. Easy enough. But we have several thousand and accessing them one by one is.............time consuming.
So the question is, if it is possible to create a KM portofolio that points to the BI server where the existing BEx Broser structure are, presenting them to the endusers.

I'm not a BI Consultant, so I don't know the Bex Browser but what I found at SDN is that is is possible to call it via ITS (WebGui)... as the Portal supports Transaction Iviews you could try that...
Please note that the notes reffering to the use of Bex Browser in the web are very very old:
- BEx browser in the Web (SAP Note Number: 318352 )
- Use of the BEx browser in the Web with a logon (SAP Note Number: 535561)
But I would strongly reccomend you to look at the possibilities that SAP intended to use in combination with Portal and KM otherwise you will get in trouble if SAP stops the support on the Bex Browser...
For more info and a detailed comparison matrix what is possible look here:

• Input of Multiple values in BEX Browser

Dear All,
Can I input multiple values i.e Can I copy values from a excel or a data base which are at random and paste in BEX Browser as a input variable. is there any way to do this operation.
Note:- Values need not be in series as stored in table.

Hi Abhijit,
I hope u are asking about input multiple values in data selection of the Query (Infact at selection screen, where u input the value for the query).
Well u can do this if u are using BW3.5 or Above. What u need to do is copy all those selection values from Excell sheet then at selection screen u have to there is a button of multiple copies which will suck values even more than 12 in numbers.
This functionality is perticularly benefial when u want to check the status BW for randon numbers of document numbers.
Hope this works for u.
Kindly assign the points if u feel this solution workable for u.

• Workbook in Bex Browser

Hello Gurus,
When user opens Bex Browser and try to drag the workbook on to the windows desktop it creates a shortcut for the workbook on the desktop. But when double click on it it doesn’t open up the workbook.
But the same thing work fine for the queries. Does anybody encountered such problem. Pls help.
thanks
jose

Hi Jose,
The problem is the way a workbook is opened from the bex browser when you click on it.
When opening the bex workbook, it tries to reuse the existing bex browser sapgui connection to connect to the bw server.
So even though a shortcut to the workbook is created there should be the bex browser open and connected to the system, so that the bex analyzer starts and tries to establish a connection to the bw server using the same rfc connection.
In the case of queries that you refer to, i suppose the shortcut just points to the web url of the query, which is then executed in the internet explorer.
So in your case does the shortcut at least open the bex analyzer ? and can you see that the bex analyzer is connected to the server ? if not then at least you should be prompted to logon i suppose..
Best Regards,

• BEx Browser BEx Workbook: No "Insert Entire Row" Option

We have a workbook with 2 queries embedded in it. Query 1 starts on Row 10 and Query 2 starts on Row 15. When the workbook is launched from Analyzer, we receive a popup window that has the title "SAP BEx: Not Enough Cells to Display Results" and it provides us with 3 options:
1) Overwrite Existing Cells
2) Insert cells below the results area
3) insert entire rows
When we launch the same workbook through BEx Browser, this popup window does not appear, which causes the results to be displayed in error.
I was wondering if anyone came across this situation and what was your fix.
We do not have the option of moving the queries to separate tabs on the workbook. We have also attempted to write a macro that would launch both queries with many, many rows between them and then have the macro delete the blank rows in between them so that the two queries are together in the worksheet. But the issue here is that the macro works when we launch the Workbook through BEx Analyzer, but when the same workbook is launched through BEx Browser, the macro is not processed.
Thanks for your help.

Hi P-Dup,
Just pass by and see this thread, maybe this helps you: I have the same issue, I simply remove the query from its worksheet, create a new worksheet and insert this same query in the new worksheet. It works then for me. (You might reuse the same worksheet, but I prefer clean one).
Please note that if you have other worksheets with formula refering to this query, the query worksheet should be copied to another worksheet and these formula should be link to this result worksheet (search and replace). It is not good to refer directly to the query worksheet though. Otherwise you would loose the references.
Hope that helps you.
Cheers

• How to change color in BEx Browser?

Hello Friends,
How to change color in BEx Browser?
My browser shows all the report description with pink color. I want to change the color.
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Bhavin,
It seems the patches for BW Add-On are being kept pretty much in sync for 6.20 and 6.40 (i.e they seem to be released at around the same time, even that the patch level numbers are different).
However, at BW Add-on Patch level 4 on a SAPgui640 machine, we didn't have the "pink font" problem.
It may be that BW 3.5 Add-On patch 6 will have a similar effect for you - it may be worth trying.
Here is the link to the BW3.50 patch 6... https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~swdc/012002523100000108232005D/bw350_6-10001615.exe?_ACTION=DL_DIRECT
The patch 6 referred to above is for the BW3.50 Add-On - the SAPgui patch is typically a different number (the 11 that you mention is the SAPgui patch level).
Best regards,
Pat M.

• Hide folder in BEx-Browser

Dear all,
We still use the BEx Browser 3.x (based on Backend SAP BI 7.0). In folder-structure on the left side we see also folders based on roles which are designed for using in web - and should not used under BEx Browser.
Does anybody know how to hide these folders in BEx Browser?
Best regards

Hi,
The documentation says that once personalization has been activated it cannot be deactivated again. (personalization being Bex history, variables and web templates).
You could try unchecking the checkboxes in SPRO, although I don't think it will work...
Also check this link..

• Bex Browser and roles

Hello All,
We currently use the BEx browser to deploy the queries and workbooks to all the users.
We have set the auth object S_USER_AGR with the value '03 - Display' only.
However, what we are observing that the users are having the capability to move workbooks from their favorites to the roles.
When we run a trace for authorization check, it is checking the above auth object and shows a value being returned for 01 - Create, 02 - Change, 06 - Delete.
Object Text
S_USER_AGR RC=0  ACT_GROUP=NY_BW_WP_QUERY_USER;ACTVT=02;
S_USER_AGR RC=0  ACT_GROUP=NY_BW_WP_QUERY_USER;ACTVT=01;
S_USER_AGR RC=0  ACT_GROUP=NY_BW_WP_QUERY_USER;ACTVT=06;
However, in the above mentioned role, the only value assigned is 03 - Display.
The users have no other roles which would override the values.
We want to ensure that the users DO NOT have the capability to save the work books from their favorites to any roles.
Any ideas?
Sunil

• Bex Browser

If we want to create a new query how do we do it to Bex Browser and do we need to transport it or we make changes in the clients only? Thanks

Hai we do it in the query designer .check the threads there are blogs on it .generally speaking its better to create in development and then move to production .If your client is ok do directly in prod but not advicable.
Goodday.

• Bex browser (not available)

Hi friends,
In my system, i'm unable to see BEx browser option. Whereas i'm able access that option in my collegues systems.
Why it's not appearing in my system? Ours is bi7.0 with SAPGUI7.10 (patch12). Bex 3.x tools are there in my front-end.
thanks,
Raju

Hi Raju,
BEx browser is available with SAP BW 3.x.
can you check
Start -> programs -> Business Explorer -> Business Explorer (SAP BW 3.x) -> Browser (SAP BW 3.x).
Best Regards.

• Bex Browser layout changes

Hello Gurus,
We are using BeX browser [3.x version] as a launching pad for our BW queries. In one of the application area's, we have a main role and within that 3 sub-roles. The layout of these sub-roles and the reprts under them in the browser are as follows. Role 1 is present in the left hand top corner of the browser. Role 2 is in the right hand top corner while Role 3 is below role 2 in the right hand side. Now Role 2 has got many reports under it and it so happens that the reports in the role 2 overflow and merge with the reports in Role 3 in the browser. The users now find it difficultto launch those reports at the bottom of Role2 & on the top of Role 3 as they appear mergerd together.
Now we were able to move Role 3 to appear under Role 1 in our development system [the browser in our production system is locked for changes] and were able to save it. But my question is, how do I move this change from Development to Production? I don't find any option to create a transport request in the browser.
Do I need to save the main role in a transport request, then make the changes in the browser and save it? Will my changes to the browser layout be saved in a TR if I do the above steps?
Thanks

• Bex Browser performance

Hello,
Is there a performance impact in using Bex browser as opposed to Bex analyzer to run a query?
I heard from someone that SAP is moving away from BEX Browser. Is this correct?
cheers
Vijay

Hi,
yes, there is: For example, the BEx analyzer has a fixed cost share of 37 protocol roundtrips in addition to one more for each 200 datacells, while the BEx browser has one (without graphical elements)
If you transfer graphical data elements (for example pie charts), the BEx browser gets a gif, which has been generated server-side; the BEX Analyzer gets all necessary data and generates the graphic client-side (additionally, the Web Server caches the gif, and therefore need not to be transferred again when reused)
As a result, the transfer time for large queries in the BEx Analyzer grows much faster than in a web application.
Greetings
