BEX browser saving in favourites problem

Hi gurus,
we are recently migrated to Bi 7.0. But the users are still using BW browser. Users are able to save the reports to their favourites. Now in favourites they want to arrange the reports in a convenient manner.when they save the changes and refresh the browser the changes are not reflected.
how to proceed.

Rajesh,
When you saw their changes are not reflected, do you mean that when the users move their favourites objects into a particular layout on the Bex Browser page it doesn't hold this?
We have this issue also and it's become so frustrating for the users that they have given up using the Browser and they just go straight for the Analyser instead.
Only one thing I can suggest is to concentrate on creating folders in the left hand panel in the Browser and put files into them as a system rather than creating groupings on the display page as they will end up all over the place as you have found.

• Saving Variant on BEx Browser

Hi All,
We are using 3.5 version. In Analyzer when you open up a query, you have an option of saving the Variant screen so when you open the query again you can load the same variants by clicking there. Do we have that choice in BEx Browser to save the variant while accessing it from Browser? And if yes then how do we do that? FYI we have 3.5 BEx browser.
Thank you for reading and answering in advance.
JM

Hello,
Bex Browser is for arranging queries and related objects.
Once you execute it opens the underlying query or view etc...
once the query is executed you can provide the variant on the selection screen.

• Bex Browser layout changes

Hello Gurus,
We are using BeX browser [3.x version] as a launching pad for our BW queries. In one of the application area's, we have a main role and within that 3 sub-roles. The layout of these sub-roles and the reprts under them in the browser are as follows. Role 1 is present in the left hand top corner of the browser. Role 2 is in the right hand top corner while Role 3 is below role 2 in the right hand side. Now Role 2 has got many reports under it and it so happens that the reports in the role 2 overflow and merge with the reports in Role 3 in the browser. The users now find it difficultto launch those reports at the bottom of Role2 & on the top of Role 3 as they appear mergerd together.
Now we were able to move Role 3 to appear under Role 1 in our development system [the browser in our production system is locked for changes] and were able to save it. But my question is, how do I move this change from Development to Production? I don't find any option to create a transport request in the browser.
Do I need to save the main role in a transport request, then make the changes in the browser and save it? Will my changes to the browser layout be saved in a TR if I do the above steps?
Thanks

• Bex Browser Views

Hello,
We're experiencing an issue when user goes into the BEx Browser and saves a View. The problem is that the View is automatically saved to the "InfoArea". There is no option to save to "Favorites".
Is there a way to prompt the user to choose either "Favorites" or "InfoAreas"? prior to the saving the View? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Jason Chuang

I am not as concerned about whether it is saved as a workbook or view. If I select Save a New Workbook in BEX Analyzer, it allows you to save in Favorites. When I select save in BEX Web, it does not give me an option and saves it under Roles.
I just want users to be able to save workbooks, views, etc. to their Favorites folder and not under the public roles.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Wes

• Arrange workbooks in BEx Browser

Hi all,
We are facing a problem arranging the workbooks in BEx Browser. In some folders we have many workbooks and these are just sitting on top of another. I tried to arrange them manually or with the properties option, but even then we still have many workbooks and the Users are having a tough time looking at them. I do not see any scroll bars that will make the window grow according to the number of workbooks.
Do we have a option to set up the scroll bar in the Browser window so that the workbooks wont overlap or any other option to list the workbooks.
Thanks,
Prabhu.

Hi,
You can assign workbooks to roles and assign roles to users. After that a person can login to the Bex Browser and based on the roles that he/she has see only those workbooks.
using tcode PFCG you can create what you want: assign roles to specific users. after saving workbooks under role and a role's menu item a user depending on his/her roles will see only what was allowed.

• BEx Browser content in KM

We have used the BEx Browser extensively over the past 10 years to keep track of all our queries, links and workbooks.
Now we are taking the first steps towards the use of KM. And we face the problem of accessing all these queries through a KM file.
We can broadcast a query or publish it to the portal. Easy enough. But we have several thousand and accessing them one by one is.............time consuming.
So the question is, if it is possible to create a KM portofolio that points to the BI server where the existing BEx Broser structure are, presenting them to the endusers.

I'm not a BI Consultant, so I don't know the Bex Browser but what I found at SDN is that is is possible to call it via ITS (WebGui)... as the Portal supports Transaction Iviews you could try that...
Please note that the notes reffering to the use of Bex Browser in the web are very very old:
- BEx browser in the Web (SAP Note Number: 318352 )
- Use of the BEx browser in the Web with a logon (SAP Note Number: 535561)
But I would strongly reccomend you to look at the possibilities that SAP intended to use in combination with Portal and KM otherwise you will get in trouble if SAP stops the support on the Bex Browser...
For more info and a detailed comparison matrix what is possible look here:

• Workbook in Bex Browser

Hello Gurus,
When user opens Bex Browser and try to drag the workbook on to the windows desktop it creates a shortcut for the workbook on the desktop. But when double click on it it doesn’t open up the workbook.
But the same thing work fine for the queries. Does anybody encountered such problem. Pls help.
thanks
jose

Hi Jose,
The problem is the way a workbook is opened from the bex browser when you click on it.
When opening the bex workbook, it tries to reuse the existing bex browser sapgui connection to connect to the bw server.
So even though a shortcut to the workbook is created there should be the bex browser open and connected to the system, so that the bex analyzer starts and tries to establish a connection to the bw server using the same rfc connection.
In the case of queries that you refer to, i suppose the shortcut just points to the web url of the query, which is then executed in the internet explorer.
So in your case does the shortcut at least open the bex analyzer ? and can you see that the bex analyzer is connected to the server ? if not then at least you should be prompted to logon i suppose..
Best Regards,

• How to change color in BEx Browser?

Hello Friends,
How to change color in BEx Browser?
My browser shows all the report description with pink color. I want to change the color.
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Bhavin,
It seems the patches for BW Add-On are being kept pretty much in sync for 6.20 and 6.40 (i.e they seem to be released at around the same time, even that the patch level numbers are different).
However, at BW Add-on Patch level 4 on a SAPgui640 machine, we didn't have the "pink font" problem.
It may be that BW 3.5 Add-On patch 6 will have a similar effect for you - it may be worth trying.
Here is the link to the BW3.50 patch 6... https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~swdc/012002523100000108232005D/bw350_6-10001615.exe?_ACTION=DL_DIRECT
The patch 6 referred to above is for the BW3.50 Add-On - the SAPgui patch is typically a different number (the 11 that you mention is the SAPgui patch level).
Best regards,
Pat M.

• BEx Browser Issue

Hi All,
I need help on a issue which users are facing in BEx Browser. I wasn't able to find any older threads for this issue, hence I have created this thread.
After a user logs into the BEx Browser, the application crashes without any error messages. Has anyone faced this issue before? If so, how was this resolved.
The version being used in the system is SAP BW 3.x. Please let me know what other information would be required.
Thanks,
Salman.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your reply and your suggestion, but the solution provided in the SAP Note seems to be for a system wide issue. Where as the issue we are facing seems to be happening for a few users only.
Authorization too doesn't seem to be the problem, as
1. some user with same authorizations don't face this issue, and
2. the users who do face this issue can see the logged in browser screen before the application crashes.
Can we generalize this as a problem with a front-end?
Thanks,
Salman.

• Bex browser in NW04s

Hi All,
SAP recommends that there will be no need to use BEx browser in BI 7.0(NW04s). BEx browser can be accessed using Portal. Does anybody know how to replicate BEx browser in Portal. I have tried using 'Role upload' option. But not all features of BEx browser come up. Any other solution to this problem. Please help.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,
You might like to investigate a third-party "Powered by SAP Netweaver"-certified solution produced by my company called "bNavigator".
You can install it in the portal and it will replicate all functionality that can came with the BEx Browser, plus it provides many additional unique benefits that complement the existing functionality of the Portal.
Install, configuration and golive can be completed across the Enterprise within a few hours and the solution is not expensive.
If you would like to download a 60-day trial version and read more about the benefits, please go to www.bnavigator.com.
If you are attending next weeks SAP Netweaver BI and Portals 2007 conference in Las Vegas, you can visit us and test-drive the latest bNavigator Release 3.0 at Booth #626.

• I previously had safari as a brouser and had saved many favourites but it all disappeared one day and I have not been able install safari again can you help.

I previously had safari as a brouser and had saved many favourites saved for quick brousing. Safari disappeared and I have been unable to reinstall it after numerous attempts. How do I proceed to get safari back?

Ok, Anne.
Get the eye fixed first. Follow Barbara B's suggestion.
The problem is that download. Try to get an installation disk from Adobe ?
Ps. My wife has used Elements 6 for 5 years without an issue, but, it was installed using the . Adobe Software disk. We found 13 was really not much better..as there was a problem with converting Canon RAW CR2 files to jpeg
If all fails you could return it for a refund which they will honour.. I did it with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 ,which did not have a stabilizer and could not handle anamorphic HD very well.. When the upgrade came it fixed everything and has run perfectly for nearly 5 years.
You should be very pleased with Adobe Photoshop Elements 13, when you get it operating. We have run Photoshop Elements for over 10 years and it is faultless, Nearly as good as ADOBE Photoshop Pro which is easier to use and over 10,000 + images have been processed .
Incidentally, both Yahoo with Flicker, Flickr: bobdixphotographer's Photostream and Google Photos+ (PICASA) Photos - Google+ have inbuilt editors for free, but, there are limitations.

• Adding workbook in Bex Browser

Hi
My requirement is i have to add a new workbook under a particular role in Bex Browser How can i do that please help with the steps
Thanks
Sheetal

Sheetal,
Bear in mind that you will need designer access to add a workbook to a role.
Do you know you can also add a workbook to a role from the BEx Analyser? When you workbook is to be saved just select Save - New Workbook - and place it in the required role. It will appear in the Browser in that role.

• Bex Browser terminates immediately after start

When you start the Business Explorer Browser it terminates after the logon, when the entry mask is displayed. We don't get any error description.
We have installed SAPGUI PL10 and then we have upgraded to SAPGUI PL16. After a trial period we faced problems with guixt and now want to go back to SAPGUI PL10. All Testusers that have used PL16 and now are back on PL10 face the problem described above.
We recognized if we delete the NTUSERDAT, Bex Browser starts again but we don't want to delete NTUSERDAT because all user specific configuration gets lost. SAPGUI PL17 should fix the guixt problem but it is not shipped by SAP right now. So we have to find another solution. Is there a way to get the BEX Browser working again without having to delete the NTUSERDAT?
Thank you for answering this thread.

Thanks! I start x by invoking startx. (This actually seems a bit smart, is this what you meant?)

What is in your ~/.xinitrc? Did you test x with twm?
Thanks for explaining, that makes things more clear for me. My ~/.xinitrc contains "#usr/bin/VboxClient-all", which I out-commented for testing. I initially skipped testing, but after having installed gdm and gnome some problems occurred. Gnome-session returns "Could not open X display" and gdm just shows a black screen with only a mouse. So, I assumed the problem had something to do with X.
Edit: X works when I remove ~/.xinitrc. However, gdm is still black.

• BEx Browser Reconnection via the Portal

Hi All,
I'll lay down the problem:
At regular points during the day, our BW users are booted out of the system while cube refreshes and aggregate generations occur.
At present, this is ok for us because everybody knows their BW user names and passwords and once the refresh is complete they just login to BW again when they attempt to refresh the workbook.
We are now setting up a portal implementation (EP 6.0) to enable single sign on via active directory to all our SAP and BW systems.
As such I have created an iView to launch the BEx browser via transaction RRMXP using a blank workbook id. This enables them to launch any of the workbooks in their profile via the open workbook method in Excel.
However, now at the point where the BW connection is terminated for each user, I cannot find a way to re-establish the connection to BW without forcing the users to shut down all their workbooks and excel.
Does anybody know if it is possible to reconnect to the BW server via the portal without the users having to close their excel session and the related work books?...I will reward you with lots of points if you do ;o)
Thanks,
Mike.

Hi Murat,
We are also facing the same issue of when trying to create/access the documents from BEx analyzer it is connecting portal , we need to bypass portal and directly access the document browser in BW server.
In your thread you mentioned it is done. So can you please let me know how did you enable the old configuration?. It will be very much helpful to us.
Awaiting for your reply.
Thanks,

• What is difference between bex analyser and bex browser

what is difference between bex analyser and bex browser . please explain what are use of both and what we do in both.

hi
Bex Browser
The Business Explorer Browser (BEx Browser) makes it possible for you to access all document types of the Business Information Warehouse that are assigned to your role or that you have stored in your favorites. You can select and open documents assigned to you in the BEx Browser or store and manage new documents in the BEx Browser.
Document types that you can work with in the BEx Browser are:
· BW workbooks
· Documents that are stored in the Business Document Service (BDS)
· Links (references to file system, shortcuts)
· Links to internet sites (URLs)
· SAP transaction calls.
· Web applications and Web templates
· Crystal Reports
Bex Analyser
The Business Explorer Analyzer (BEx Analyzer) is the analysis and reporting tool of the Business Explorer that is embedded in Microsoft Excel.
Features
You can call up the BEx Query Designer in the BEx Analyzer, in order to define queries. Subsequently, you can analyze the selected InfoProvider data by navigation to the query created in the Query Designer and create different query views of the data. You can add the different query views for a query or for different queries to a work book and save them there. You can save the workbook in your favorites or in your role on the BW Server. You can also save the workbook locally on your computer.
Beyond that, you can precalculate the workbook and distribute it by e-mail to recipeients or you can export it to the Enterprise Portal and make it accessible to other employees in the company.
You can start queries in a standard view (with a Standard Web Template set up in Customizing) in the Web browser and forward the URL or continue to navigate on the Web. Similarly, you can export the Web query to MS Excel 2000.
Overview of the Functional Area of the BEx Analyzer:
· BEx toolbar
You access the functions of the BEx Analyzer from the BEx toolbar, which takes you to the BEx Open dialog box where you can open existing queries, or to the BEx Query Designer where you can create new queries or change existing queries.
· Evaluating Query Data
The BEx Analyzer offers convenient functions for evaluating and presenting InfoProvider data interactively. In the BEx Analyzer, you can add queries to workbooks, navigate within them and refresh the data. You can also process the queries further in Microsoft Excel or display them in the Web browser in a default view.
Navigation of a query allows you, for example, to filter characteristics on a single value, drilldown on all values for a characteristic, regroup characteristics and key figures in the rows and columns of the results area, or hide key figures. Navigation results in different views of the InfoProvider data. In addition, a range of further functions is available which allow you to edit a query interactively (for example, sorting, cumulated output, among others). In addition, you can use the editing functions in Microsoft Excel in order to set up individual format templates, to print results areas, or to create graphics.
· Queries in Workbooks
Queries are inserted into workbooks so you can display them. When you insert a query, a link is made between the cell areas of the worksheet and the data of the InfoProvider upon which the query is based. A link therefore exists between the Business Explorer and the Business Information Warehouse Server (BW Server).
When inserting a query into the workbook, a VBA routine is automatically generated in the workbook. You can also connect the Business Explorer with your own VBA programs (Visual Basic for Applications).
You can create workbook templates, into which you can insert your queries. Workbook templates can contain pre-determined items for the area of the query, formatting settings, logos, VBA macros, and so on.
· Precalculating workbooks
You can precalculate and distribute workbooks with the BEx Broadcaster, which is a Web application you get to form the BEx toolbar. The system generates MS Excel workbooks with historical data. You determine the time for precalculation yourself: You can have workbooks precalculated at a predefined time or they can be precalculated whenever data in the underlying InfoProvider changes. You can have the precalculated workbooks sent by e-mail or you can export them into the Enterprise Portal, where you can make them available to employees within your company.
Activities
To start the BEx Analyzer, choose Start ® Programs ® SAP Front-end Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Business Explorer Analyzer.
You can also access the BEx Analyzer via SAP Easy Access ® SAP Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Menu ® Business Explorer ® Analyzer or in the Business Explorer Browser using the Business Explorer Analyzer symbol in the menu bar.
Hope this will solve your issu
