BEx Hierarchy variable - display 2nd noode

Hello,
I created a BEx 7.0 hierarchy variable. Is it possible when executing the query that the user see hierarchy starting from 2nd noode?
Any idea?

Hi Pascal,
You can hide your first node also from query designer by selecting "Nodes with only one lower level node" in hierarchy properties and select HIDE from the drop-down menu.
I hope this will help you to solve your problem.

  • Problem with hierarchy variable while displaying query in Portal

    Hi,
I came up with an problem with a query in the portal.  The problem is :
I have one query which is displayed in the portal. The Query has hierarchial selection criteria. I am executing the same query using analyzer. Its taking the variable from the selection and displaying it on the analyzer. I have used the option to " display the query on web " from the BEX query designer. From there its opening and displaying the results with the given selection criteria.
Where as when i open the query seperately in portal, its not displaying the results.
I came to know from one of my colleague that the porblem is with the Web item and the hierarchial variable declared in WAD  was different from the variable declared in the BEX Query designer.
I never Worked with WAD. I tried finding out the variable definition. But i was unable to find out where the Hierarchial variable was defined.
Please help me out regarding the same.

    The problem is sovled.

  • Hierarchy variable description not displaying correctly

    Hi all,
I'm using 0ORGUNIT hierarchy variable in several queries either based on the characteristic 0ORGUNIT, or based on the navigational attribute 0EMPLOYEE_0ORGUNIT.
When I execute the query with 0EMPLOYEE_0ORGUNIT hierarchy variable the selection node description displays the Medium description, which is correct.
Whe I execute the query with 0ORGUNIT hierarchy variable the selection node displays the Short description, which is incorrect, as I need it to display the Medium description.
The settings for the object in both query properties are set to display Text Medium Length, and 0ORGUNIT infoobject Business Explorer tab dipslays text,  text type is medium Length and bex description is long text, but still when I try to select the node in the parameter selection before query execution the description differs in both cases, any idea why??
    Please advice, much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    M.

    Hi,
I understand what you're saying, and unfortunately I can't attach any screenshots here but both queries use the Medium Description in the object properties and it's maintained in the text table /BI0/TORGUNIT as well (short and medium).
However, the BEx Descpription is only in short and long text, there is nothing I can change or maintain about that.
It looks like everything is as it should be, because for one query I can see the medium text properly, but not for the other, even though I'm using the exact same settings, apart from the fact that in one query I use 0ORGUNIT and in the other it's used as a navigational object 0EMPLOYEE_0ORGUNIT.
    It's a funny thing indeed....
    Thanks
    M.

  • Hierarchy selection variable display as key

I have created a variable to allow users to choose a functional location (0FUNCT_LOC) hierarchy in a 7.0 WEB report. This is so users can select between two hierachies from different source systems. The hierarchies have different keys (as a result of renaming in the InfoPackage) but the same text descriptions.
In the variable selection screen the hierarchy is displayed in the format Text + Key, however because of the width of the selection drop down box only the text is visible. As the text for both hierarchies is the same (HIER.TECH.LOC) users can not easily see which hierarchy they need to select.
Is it possible to change the display so that only the Key is displayed in the varaible selection drop down box (N.B. we need the report to display Key + Text and so this has what has been set as the BEx display default for the InfoObject)?
Alternativley is it possible to widen the width of the selection drop down box in the WEB varaible selection screen so that the Text + Key will both be visible?
    Thanks

    Nice question buddy.
I am also looking for the same, couldnt get anything yet.

  • In BEx, how to display hierarchy Upper Node with selected Lower Nodes only

Currently I am displaying the Cost Centre (GFL Responsibility Cost Centre) hierarchy in a workbook. I want to be able to filter on this hierarchy dynamically. E.g. the upper node must be displayed including the rolled up results for this node, together  with a selection of the lower nodes e.g 2 nodes ( not all the lower nodes related to the upper node must be displayed in the query).
    What's possible when filtering :
To filter on the 2 lower nodes only ( results are displayed as required)
    Not possible:
When I include the higher node of the 2 lower nodes in the query, All the lower nodes of the higher node are displayed, and the filter selection of the lower nodes are over written.
This is logically what's expected when the higher node is included in the filter.
Creating a hierarchy variable gives the same problem, I am not able to filter on the hierarchy nodes as required.
                      <b>Upper Node</b>
              <b>Lower Node1 LowerNode2 LowerNode3</b>
Filter the report for UpperNode and LowerNode 2 & 3 only

    Hi
Do you want to show particular node or particular level ?
If you want particular node , then create hierarchy node variable and restrict to that node ( 3rd node)
If you want particular level, what does that mean  say i am taking employee hierarchy and the hierarchy is as below.
Ihe setting that we have is to expand upto n levels but  if yiou say i need level 2 what does that mean and how do you want to show in report ?
           A -
    (level 1)
           B,C,D( --child of A ) --- level 2
              E(Child of B), F(Child of C)   -
    level 3.

  • Hierarchy variable in BEx

Hey, is there a way to make a BEx characteristic variable that has hierarchies available so that the user can select between several hierachies and not just within the one? i.e. 0costelmnt has several hierarchies available but when you set up a variable you can only use one hierarchy.
    Thanks in advance,
    A. Berkey

If I understand your question correctly, at query runtime, you want to enable the user to just be able to select an entire hierarchy (w/o regard to hierarchy nodes).  You need use (or create) a hierarchy variable by right-clicking "cost element" and selecting either:
    A). Properties
Click the hierarchy field and select the checkbox for variable entry.
    or
    B). Restrict
Go to the hierarchy tab of the restrict dialog window and choose the hierarchy variable.
As a more detailed scenario, you may want a user to be able to choose which cost element hierarchy to be used within the query.  Additionally, you may want the user to be able to choose a particular node(s) of the selected hierarchy.
To create this scenario (user picks hierarchy and node of selected hierarchy):  Create/use a hierarchy node variable on cost element (this can be done by right-clicking "cost element",choosing "restrict", and proceeding to the hierarchy tab of the restrict dialog window).  After selecting the variable, right-click, and choose "Select variable hierarchy".
At runtime, the user should now be prompted with two variable fields, one for the hierarchy, and one for the hierarchy node.
Note:  Within query properties, set the order of the variables where the "hierarchy" variable precedes "hierarchy node" variable.  This is useful as the values of "hierarchy node" are driven from the selected "hierarchy".
    Also,
For more info on variable, please refer to http://help.sap.com.

  • How to display Hierarchy Variable in BI 7.0 WAD

    Hi Experts
I have a variable for Cost Center which is a Hierarchy Variable and not a Hierarchy Node Variable. I am using BI WAD 7.0 and my requirement is that the user wants to see for what Hierarchy s/he ran for.
I am using a Information Web Item whihc is under Advanced tab. After dragging that I check the box for Variables so that the user see all the variables he ran for and after s/he prints its more precise report.
My problem is I cant see the Hierarchy variable value in my Web Template ....I can see at the variable POP UP screen I enter my Hierarchy but after executing it I dont see my Hierarchy variable value.
Your suggestions will be reciprocated with Points.
    Thanks

    Hello Experts,
To substantiate my earlier question ...I have 3 Hierarchies for 0COSTCENTER
In the WAD under the Information Web ITem i check the box for
    Display Variables (VARIABLES_VISIBLE)
    I have 3 variables
    1) Hierarchy Variable : user will pick 1 out of 3 Hierarchy
(not a node but entire Hierarchy)
    2) Fiscal  Year/period
    3) Value type
But I can see only 2 variables after the Web template is executed , the user wants to see for what hierarchy it ran when it prints the report
    Your suggestions are supremely appreciated
    Thanks

  • Problem executing BEx query Hierarchy variable with default value

My query has hierarchy variable on 0MOVETYPE char with a default value . The 0MOVETYPE variabale restriction is in Static filter area.
I got timeout on query execution not because of amount of data but because of this hier. variable. Any ideas why?
    Notes:
    a) The hierarchy and the 0MOVETYPE characteristic are active and correct.
    b) I've tried RSRT check, but got the same timeout error.
    c) query executes fine on dev environment. I'm getting timeouts on PRD (as I say not because of amont of data)

    Hi,
    1. Try generating the report in RSRT and see if query runs correctly
    2. Looks like you are dafulating onto top node which contains whole data may be. This is not correct as it will definitely slow down the report based on amount of data it contains. Try to remove default and try first whether query is opening.
    3. You can put some lower level defualt to understand whether amount of data is the issue.
    4. Try to increase the server time out setting and see if it runs.
    Thanks and regards

  • BW hierarchy variable not working in Crystal Report 2008

    Hi,
I have created BEx 7.0 report which has hierarchy on 0customer object, the report is working fine whith hierarchy variable. I have created Crystal Report by using this query as source. I have followed below link to create grouping to get data through hierarchy variable.
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/BWHierarchiesinCrystalReports
But report does not work for hierarchy variable and report is blank. When I give filter of child node which has actual data then I get report output. For ex.
    Below hierarchy for 0customer
    11396
         - 737007
         - 123456
When I run report for 11396 then no data display but when I run 737007 child node I get report output but with blank group name.
Can anyone came accross this issue. Please guide me . Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Ingo for your reply..
The word filter means, I have hierarchy node variable in the BEx report that has become Parameter in CR. When I give hierarchy node variable value of parent node then there is not data display but for the child node I get the data.
For ex. In the info cube there is data for 730707 customer but in the customer hierarchy the parent node of 73707 is 11396. I am giving 11396 in the variable pop screen for hierarchy variable. I do not see any data but for 73707 I get data.
User does not know 73707, he always enter 11396 customer no. and he gets data in BEx query that is source of CR. but crystal report is not showing data for 11396.
One more point I want to tell here, I am saving CR at my local system not to SAP BW server.
    Hope this clear my issue.

  • Cannot enter value in selection screen for Hierarchy variable.

    Hi All,
I have a hierarchy variable on the selection screen for Org unit.
When i execute the report via Bex or RSRT i am able to enter the value directly into the selection screen input field without going for F4 help and then selecting the value.
But when the same query is used in web template and executed the input field for the variable on the selection screen is greyed out and doesnt allow to type in the value. Only way to fill in the value is via F4 help.
Can anyone tell why is this happening and is there any way this can be changed?
    Thanks in advance.
    -RJ

    Hi Prakash,
I am not able to select or click on the input field of the selection screen before and after selecting the value
    CTRL+K doesnt work for me.
The display field is populated only when i select a node from the F4 help screen.
When executed from RSRT the field is highlighted and i am able to enter the value unlike when executed on web browser.
The variable is Mandatory multiple single value readu for input.
I found an article saying that for hierarchy node variables the values are forced by F4 value help as the values that are entered manually might not be unique.
    This is the link

I would like to know if there is a work around or setting that can be made to make it work?

  • No able to open hierarchy variable in production system

    Hi,
I've have a strange issue in my BEX analyzer 3.5, i have kept product center hierarchy as one of the selection variable for my query, when i click the "Input help" button on my product hierarchy variable, its not opening the window were we can select values, instead of that it keeps on processing for a very long time until we click cancel button and i also checked for other variables by clicking the "input help" button others working fine, wheni try this same query in my testing system it is working fine,  Plz resolve my issue
    Thanks
    Satish

    <div class="jive-quote">Hi,
I've have a strange issue in my BEX analyzer 3.5, i have kept product center hierarchy as one of the selection variable for my query, when i click the "Input help" button on my product hierarchy variable, its not opening the window were we can select values, instead of that it keeps on processing for a very long time until we click cancel button and i also checked for other variables by clicking the "input help" button others working fine, wheni try this same query in my testing system it is working fine,</div>
I am not pretty much sure about this issue, but what i understand is that, when you try to open input help, the system is trying to display all the possible product hierarchy values, which i suppose the system is unable to display, as your hierarchy may have many nodes.
Just give a try, you said your testing system has no issue regarding this, just have a view on hierarchy attribute settings in maintain hierarchy option of product center hierarchy, compare the node level drill down at initial in both the systems. I think in testing system node level drill down may be less, and in ur current system it might be more.
Hope this may help you somewhere towards finding the solution.

  • HIerarchy Variable in Selection Screen not taken into account.

    Hi,
Our users choose a cost center hierarchy in the selection screen and run the report. As we have suppressed Unassigned Nodes, they do not appear. However when users then deactivate the hierarchy, unassigned nodes are shown. Their argument is that the unassigned nodes should still not be displayed because a hierarchy was entered on the selection screen. Is there a way of stopping this?
    Thanks

    Hi Shawn,
I think I get what you did in your query, though it took me some time...
Did you select the cost center in your query and set the display hierarchy using settings, hierarchy tab, select hierarchy, hierarchy variable (or something like that)? That would explain why the query isn't filtered on that hierarchy, only the display of cost elements is affected. You should also have the same hierarchy variable in your filter settings in the query designer. That way, the user filters on a hierarchy and the unassigned nodes will never be in the result.
Hope it helps, tell me if I got it wrong,
    Kind regards,
    Alex

  • Hierarchy variable names in report

I'm would like to be able to display the user selection for a hierarchy variable in a Crystal Report but when I do I get a message that says you can't add this to a report as a field. Is there any way to get access to this so it can be put in the report header? I know how to get the technical name from the parameter, but we need the description.

    Hi Ingo and the others,
so, that unfortunately a very hard constraint.
We have for example the following scenario:
A sales Crystal Report which is built on a SAP BW Query. The query contains a country variable, to select the country. Now we want to create Country Sales report. In Crystal the variable is converted into a parameter. The country selection works fine and the report is able to show the correct data. But all this does not make sense with the country name in the report title. Is there no way to achieve this?
Would rebuilding the parameter with Crystal means and deleting it from the BW query an option, or would this have a bad effect on performance issues?
    Best regards,
    Sebastian
