Bex on Citrix

Hello,
We have installed Business Explorer on Citrix (win 2003 server) and have published them to users. When users try to use Bex Analyzer or Query Designer through Citrix metaframe the performance is very slow. If Bex
tools are installed on local desktop the performance is fine. Also if welogon to the Citrix Server directly and use the application it responds well. Only when the application is accessed through metaframe it is slow.
Can you advise what we can do to improve Bex performance on Citrix? Thanks.

Hi David,
I found following SAP Notes:
138869 - Note itself is not dealing with BEx but with GUI in general:
Citrix XenApp 6.x is released as of patch level 5 of SAP GUI for Windows 7.20 (see below).
1322923 - Note is dealing with BEx specifically but it is just referring to upper Note
Based on those I assume SAP GUI 720 Patch level 5 is supporting Citrix XenApp 6.x .

    In the environment definition,
    -> External Application JDBC
    -> Properties
    -> Outbound JDBC Connection
You have the database URL in the "DriverProperties" field
Valid URL would be : jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/caps
!! The doc says that this field is optional !! Seems to be an error in the doc:
    Hope this helps

  • Citrix and BEx 2004s

    Hello,
We have a problem with the BEx 2004s and Citrix. We have extremely poor performance in the query design within the bussiness explorer. the issue is not for running the queries.
    Example :
20 users BEx 3.5 in Citrix = 10 % of the server CPU used (3Ghz)
1 users BEx 2004s in Citrix = 40 % of the server CPU used (same 3 Ghz)
Can anyone help us on this ?
This is not about query design (same performance and perf OK) or about the query designer itself. But moving cells within the business explorer 2004s is a nightmare.
    Thank you
    Fabrice

    HI,
If you compare BW3.5 front end components with Bi7.0 front end(Bex tools) components,
Bi 7.0 will take large amount of memory and Space.
Because there larege amounts of GUI related elements and tools added in Bi7.0 Bex tools.
Check with prerequisite(hardware and network configuration of BI7.0)

  • Live office database errors in Citrix - underlying WebI reports work fine

    Hi,
We have a live office report with 30 tabs in the excel file i.e. 30 webi report parts in it. It accesses 20 webi reports, each built on a BEX query.
Please see below the error which users get while running the report in Citrix environment. The underlying WebI report has no database errors, and we were able to run the Live Office reports at the same time on LAN. The Citirx users get these database/auth errors intermittently, on different tabs of the report at different times - the underlying BO reports are error free and users have proper rights to execute them.
"An error occured while opening the report. The report does not exist; youhave insufficient rights to open the report; or you cannot make a connection to the BusinessObjects Web Service. (LO 02010)
Failed to get the document information (LO 26315)
A database error occured. The database error text is: ...."
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Soumya

    Hi,
BO Version is BO XI 3.1 SP2 FP2.1
Datasource - BEX queries BW Relese 701, support pack level 8
We have made users login to Infoview and checked that they are able to execute the WebI reports. Also, earlier they were able to run all reports, so there is no access problem.
These errors started occuring when we had to refersh BO Universes after some of the BEX queries changed. We even asked users to stop using the excel files on which they used to get errors, thinking the files may be corrupt. Then we sent them new files which we had successfully refershed at our end. But still they get these errors in their environment.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,

  • Queries with attributes not opening through Citrix.

    Hi.
Our users use Citrix to remotely logon to their system. They use SAP GUI 6.20.
When they remotely use Citrix and run BEx (thorugh RRMX), and try to open a query having attributes in the rows, it gives them (eventually us also) multiple errors.
First, a "Program Error Intercepted" window, saying "An unexpected type mismatch error occured in wdbrlog. 1 error is logged". The it asks to type in what we were trying to do.
If we type something, it would take us a new window saying "Run-time error '-2147221499 (80040005)': Fatal Error - Terminating. If we press the OK button underneath, it takes us to another window (saying Microsoft Visual Basic on top and in the body says: "Run-time error '-2147221499 (80040005)", Automation Error : The callee (server [not server application]) is not available and disappeared; all connections are invalid. The call may have executed."
Then it closes the open query window.
Then if we try to open that or any other query, it (as usual) prompt us for the name and password and even if we put the correct name and password, it does not recognize anything. We have to logoff from the Citrix server manually and totally and then only the system works.
We are confused of why this problem should happen and would really appreciate your help.
    Thanks.

    Hello Isha,
I hope this is not too late.
I am not sure of the ITS version you are using: is it the ITS 6.20 (Standalone) or the Integrated ITS?
    Please consider SAP note 1058218.
Let me know if I can help you further.
    All the best,

  • BEx on EP

    Hi,
According to the following excerpt, every time we call BEx via a transaction iView from the Portal (with tcode RRMX), we get a separate R/3 window with the tcode S000.
    Sourced from https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/7c0ea690-0201-0010-15ac-820022308f2a#q-5 -
What are the GUI needs for SAP NetWeaver BI Integration into the SAP Enterprise Portal? My customer is implementing the SAP NetWeaver BI in conjunction with the SAP Enterprise Portal. Does the SAP NetWeaver BI fully support a Portal/Browser access for all functions of SAP NetWeaver BI , or do some users need to have the GUI and SAP NetWeaver BI client components installed on their local PC's in order to do their job?
For visualization of SAP NetWeaver BI Web Applications / Web Queries via the SAP EP, the user does not need to have any special GUI or SAP NetWeaver BI client components installed on their local PC, as SAP NetWeaver BI web reports are completely HTML enabled, allowing full browser visibility. For power users in an company, there are SAP NetWeaver BI components such as the BEx Analyzer, BEx Web Application Designer, Administrator Workbench, and BEx Query Designer that require GUI components to be available on the user's PC, or via a Citrix environment. For more information on this issue, refer to note 161993 and check the FAQs below.
Our current configuration for the BEx iView is still launching Excel with the new window (S000), even though BI has been upgraded to BI 7.0 and Portal is running on SP15.
Does anyone have any idea how to suppress the new R/3 window?
Are there any plans to not pop-up this new R/3 window?
We notice if we have an existing transaction iView to BI with tcode "SMEN" and execute "RRMX" from the iView, Excel is opened and we do not get any additional R/3 windows.  Would this not mean that we can somehow suppress the R/3 window with tcode "S000" when we call BEx (RRMX) from a transaction iView?
I hope the above makes sense.  Many thanks in advance

    Hi Voon,
Transaction RRMX will always (in 3.5 and in 7.0) open Excel. RRMX calls Bex analyzer, that's Excel plugin for BI.
What you need to do is create a query using query designer and open it using the preview button, this will pop up a portal screen. From BI 7, there is no need to create an iview, since new Web BEx is already integrated with portal (it's required, you cannot use BI 7 web frontend without portal). Check note 1013201 and this link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/00/e8d13f7fb44c21e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm.
Also search here in sdn, there is lots of information regarding this (posts, blogs and articles)
    Hope this helps.

  • Restricting the Query Design Mode Toolbar in BEx

    Hello,
Query Design Mode toolbar is available to Citrix users when using the BEx Analyser. THe client would like this switched off in the workbooks so users cannot see the make-up of the query.  Does anyone one know who to carry this out?
    Thanks,
    Hema
Edited by: Hema Bharti on Jul 30, 2008 2:36 PM

    Hi Hema,
    To answer your question:
From query design toolbar, I do not see how you can see the make up of a query.
The design toolbar has been introduced to be able to make changes to the query as users need and save them for personal in Favorites or if they have authorization into roles.
As lomg as they do not have access to query designer, they cannot see make up of query.
There is no authorization to disable design toolbar.

  • BEx  Analyzer 3.x after 2004S Upgrade - Variable Screen

The variable screen has changed when using BEx Analyzer 3.x after upgrading to 2004S.  Is there an option to go back to the original version?  We are doing a "technical upgrade only" this weekend to our production system and did not want to impact our users in any way at this time.  There was a thread that started out asking about this issue but then switched to discussions about the Query Designer and the variable screen question was never answered.
    Thank you for your help.

Yes, I can access RRMX.  However our users cannot.  They log on through Citrix directly to BEx Analyzer 3.x.  When I use transaction RRMX, it takes me to BEx Analyzer 2004S.
Is there any way for our users to access the old variable screen using BEx Analyzer 3.x?  And if not, is there any documentation anywhere on the new variable screen that is being used for 3.x after technically upgrading to 2004S?
    Thank you -
    Ann

  • XLR & BEx incompatibility

    Hello,
in a Citrix environment, we try to use both XL Reporter 2007A and SAP Business Explorer 7.10 (BI).
But XL Reporter requires .NET 1.1 and BEX requires .NET 2.0.
Both products seem to be incompatible.
Did someone ever succeed in making both products work together ?
    Best Regards,
    Vincent.

    Hello all,
    thanks for you replies.
Gordon, the issue is that we are in a Citrix environment. So Bex and XLR are beeing used at the same time.
I can run Bex and XLR separately, I just have to change the excel.exe.config between each use. But I look for a solution to run them in parallel, that do not work for the moment...
    Any other idea please ?
    Kind Regards,
    Vincent.

  • IF and ABS condition statement in BEX query designer

    Hi,
I would like to ask the best way for me to produce an acceptable result from Excel IF and ABS Condition statement.
The condition statement that I have on my Excel file is
    =IF((A2-B2)>0,ABS(A2-B2),0)
I'm trying multiple times to reproduce this in BEX Query designer, unfortunately I'm getting a bad result or unacceptable formula.
Anyone who could help me with my issue?

  • Inconsistency between Bex and Back end

Hello, I have a query about bex issue. I have few fields in my DSO/Cube which has data showing correctly in the back end but in Bex it shows partial of those values. like if i have something like this:
    ZField
    000000000000000000008
It shows correct in DSO table but in Bex it only shows the zeros. do you know why and how to get this to show the whole field value?
    Thanks.
By the way this is a characteristic and not keyfigure.

    Hi Vekant,
If you have not did any speecific thing at query level then value should be shown correctly.
Please try this once and check.
Create new test query on your data target drag and droup your charecteristic.please execute your test query and see if you are able to see the correct value.
    try this.

  • Error while trying to Open and Delete a BEx Query in Query Designer.

    Hi Experts,
I have been facing this issue with BEx Query in Designer mode for a couple of days now in Development Environment in BI 7.0.
I would like to Delete an unwanted BEx Query because I need to give it's name to another BEx Query.
Whenever I try to Open this Query in BEx Query Designer to Delete, it gives out an error saying:
"An error occurred while communicating with the BI server.
As a result of this error, the system has been
    disconnected from the BI server.
    Detailed Description:
STOP: Program error is class SAPMSSY1 method : UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
STOP: System eror in program CL_RSR and form GET_CHANMID-01 - (see long text)"
    Details text is as below:
    Diagnosis
This internal error is an intended termination resulting from a program state that is not permitted.
    Procedure
Analyze the situation and inform SAP.
If the termination occurred when you executed a query or Web template, or during interaction in the planning modeler, and if you can reproduce this termination, record a trace (transaction RSTT).
For more information about recording a trace, see the documentation for the trace tool environment as well as SAP Note 899572.
I have tried with SAP Note 899572, but still it's the same.
Has anyone faced similar issue? Could you please let me know if you have better ideas or solution?
    Your time is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chandu

Arun - Thanks a million. You saved me Nine. It worked.
Could you also please tell me how to rename (Technical) a Query or is it still "Save the Query As" the only way...?
    Points already assigned.

  • Report performance while creating report on BEx

    All all!
I am creating a report on BOE 4.0 on top of BEx connection as a source. I have developed reports on top of universe in the past and i know that if we keep calculations on reporting end it hampers the report performance. Is this the same case with BEx? if we are following the best practices is it ok to say that we should keep all heavy calculations/ aggregation on BEx or backend for better report performance.
Can you guys please provide your opinion based on your experiance and knowledge.  Any feedbacks will help! Thanks.

    Hi,
Definitely  best-practice to delegate a maximum of CKF to the Cube where possilble,  put RKF in the BEx query, and Filters too.
also, add Default Values to your Variables (this will speed up generation of the bics transient universe)
also, since Patch2.10, we are seeing some significant performance improvements  reducing 'document initialization' and  'time to prompts'  by up to 50% (step such as these often took 1.5 minutes, even on sized systems)
Also, make sure you have BW corrections like this implemented:  1593802    Performance optimization when loading query views
In the BusinessObjects landscape - especially with BI 4.0 - it's all about Sizing and Tuning . Here is your bible the 'sizing companion' guide : http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000738725&_OBJECT=011000358700000307202011E
Pay particular attention to BICSChunkSize registry settings
Also, the  -Xmx JVM Heap Size for the Adaptive Processing Server  that is running the DSL_Bridge service.
