Bex: Restrictions

Hi
Can some tell me some general restrictions we have in Bex query designer? (Eg: Maximum number of Free chars/Chars in a query)
Thanks
Basava

MAx no of structures :2.
2structures can either be in rows or columns.
You cant have 2 KF structures or 2 Characteristc Structures. A Keyfigure can't be included in a  characteristic structure and a Char can't be in a KF structure.
Exactly speaking there is no restriction on haveing Chars/Free chars in Query designer. In some caeses it allows you to use all chars from respective infoProvider....but again it depends on many factors..You to keep in mind performance issue also....Try to use all Chars and KFs of Your InfoProvider in Your Query then you will ger better idea.
Don't forget to assign points if it helps.
Thanks

  • Hierarchy Node Description in BEx Restriction

    Hi All,
When I use a hierarchy node variable as a restriction in a query, the leaf level nodes always display a long list of info (all the associated attributes) instead of just the actual node info by itself.
How do I set that up since the display is very busy with all that attribute info showing!
    Thanks,
    Darryl

    Hi There,
Go to Attribute tab of infoobject on which hierarchy is build and change the value of column 'Order' to  '0'. This paramenter controls the display of attributes.
    Thanks

  • How to filter hierarchy node in BEX query designer

    Dear experts
We are working on FI balance sheet with hierarchy infoobject 0GLACCEXT. Example of our balance sheet is as follow:
    Parent Node A = 20
         Sub-parent Node A1 = 10
             Leaf A11 = 5
                 Leaf A12 = 5
    Parent Node B = 20
         Sub-parent Node B1 = 10
                   Leaf B11 = 5
                   Leaf B12 = 5
    We require only:
        Sub-parent Node A1 = 10
        Leaf B12 = 5
So I filter those out in BEX restriction;  however, after we examine the report in tcode RSRT, "Sub-parent Node A1" is not shown in BEX Report, and the result is as follow:
    Parent Node B = 5
         Sub-parent Node B1 = 5
                 Leaf B12 = 5
Are there solutions for us to show merely A1 and B12 ?

    Hi Chu
    Try the following steps.
    Initial Output
In this example I will restrict the query for only displaying Node 8603 and leaf 9000
Proceed to restrict the Characteristic. Please be aware of the difference between hierarchy nodes and leaf characteristic values. Also set the Hierarchy display properties to expand up to level 1.
    Execute the query again:
Please be aware that users will still be able to expand node 8603 and see the lower level nodes/leaf. In order to restrict users from doing this set up users authorizations.

  • Default value of BeX customer Exit variable not Displayed in WeBI??

    Hello Experts,
We are stuck with a problem where WeBI report is created on top of BeX query and we are not able to see the default value of Bex Customer exit variable in WeBI run. Here is the complete scenario:
    1. One restricted KF is created in BeX, restricted with Customer exit variable on net Due date. And this variable is mandatory, ready for input, and Default value in calculated is user exit as current Week's Monday.
    2. So, by default KF data should be restricted to Monday of current week, if user does not change this value.
    3. Now, WeBI report is created on top of this Bex query, and all is working fine, i.e. we are getting variable as Prompt in WeBI, but Default value is not shown while Running the Webi Report.
So, need your inputs on the same, if default values from BeX in WeBI is supported or not? If yes, why this is happening, and how to resolve it?
Please notice, the restrcition is in KF only, it is not a separate restrcition on Net Due date in Filter area or in Defualt area of BeX
and we are on SAP BW 7.1 and BOXI 3.1 SP4.

    Hi,
See 1285993 - Support of Customer Exit Variables from BEx query into WebIntelligence via OLAP universe
WebI will prompt when executed, but the default values calculated by the user exit  - do not appear.
Note: If the BEx variable has property 'ready for input' set / enabled, then its WebI prompt shows ok, but no default value appears.
    Cause
This behaviour expected 'by design' (in the context of the product's current limitations) as explained in the online guide below:
Please refer to Chapter 7, page 44, document link here: http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir3/en/xi3_sap_olap_universes_en.pdf
Characteristic variable > processing type > Customer Exit  is "Supported, without user entry"
-->  This should be understood as meaning "User will not be shown a prompt"

  • Hierarchy display in BEX is confusing

I am having an issue with the customer group hierarchy display in BEX:
In RSA1 hierarchy display like this
    Customer group 1
    --Customer A
    --Customer B
    --Customer C
In BEX (restricting characteristic or variable selection for 0customer/0sold_to) it displays:
    Customer group 1
    --Customer group 1
    --Customer A
    --Customer B
    --Customer C
It confuses the users as to which is the correct Customer group 1 node to select for the queries. I could not find any setting that may control this behaviour.
This is a time dependent hierarchy. We are in 3.1c
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Farhad

    Dear Mansoori,
Not sure this solve your issue. But please try as the following if not tried before.
In BEx->Restrict the Material from 0 to 99999999. I guess you may not be able to find the range in the development server then..
Try writing an user exit for 'Material' variable.
the sample code already might be existing in your system..
    Please check at
    SE37 > EXIT_SAPLRRS0_001 > Double click on Include ZXRSRU01
add your variable to add the ABAP code of restriction..

  • BO Explorer - using RKF and CKF of a query

    Hi,
I am currently in the learning phase of Business Objects 4.1 tools and have some unanswered questions.
I have recently started learning about the Explorer tool and was wondering whether there is a way I can use BEx queries as source in the Explorer tool. For now, I have created a relational data universe over the InfoCube using the Information Design Tool and used this new universe as a source in the Explorer tool but this did not bring in any of the existing BEx restricted key figures and calculated key figures.
Are there any other ways I can connect directly to the BEx query directly to take advantage of the defined restricted key figure and calculated key figure. There are about 100 RKF and CKF over an InfoCube and I would really like to take advantage of the existing elements.
I read through the discussion forums and found couple of different replies based on the version number.
Please do guide me if you have resolved a similar issue. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the reply Ajay. I was following the below thread that mentions about creating universe using XI 3.1 and then using the constructed universe through Explorer. Is this available in BO 4.1, please do explain about this if possible.

  • Weeks calculation from the date

    Hi BW mates,
I am currently working on SCM Queries. I have a report where I have to display the sales for 16 weeks from the date of release of cinema.
    For eg.
In rows, Title and Release date are displayed in rows. In columns data is displayed with Wee1, Week2,,,,,,,,,up to Week 16.
Generally using Off sets we can achieve using current week. But here I have to consider the release date. The release date is nothing but the equals to current week from there it has to show all 16 weeks invidually
    <b>Title</b>                     <u>Week1 Weekk2 Week3 Week4</u>
    <b>Release date</b>
    <b>Actual Sales</b>
    <b>Target sales</b>
Please suggest me how to do this.
    Thanks,
    Sudhakar.

    hi,
you can use use a flag in the update rule with 16 values e.g. A,B,C.....L for 16 weeks. pupulate the flag based on the release date. There is a function module which convert date to week. Once this is done create a restricted Key figure in BEx restricting the sales based on the flag i.e A for WEEK1, B for WEEK2.
    Hope this helps.

  • Char restriction in Bex Query Designer

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone explain what is the use of the Characteristic Restriction Area in in the BEx Query designer
If i set 0CALYEAR =2008 in the Char Restriction and in the column definition i set the one of the column to display data from year 2009. Will it work ?
    Please advice
    Thank you
    BR

There are two type of characterstic restrcitions in the query. Global and local.
If you are createing a restrcited key figure or selection and restricting calday then it will be restricted to that particular key figure (and show 2008 data) and in the columns it will show you other years data (i.e. 2009 data).
But if you are using a global fiter in the filter tab of query designer, then it will be applicable to the whole query.

  • Creating Restrictions in BEx query designer for (1-a), where a is variable.

But if I want to have (1-0P_PER), then plz tell me how to define this restriction?
Plz explain me the steps to perform (1-0P_PER) restriction in BEx query designer in BW1.

My requirement is that I want to have " 1-fiscal year"., But this I could not define using offset variables, since using offset we can define "fiscal year +1" or "fiscal year -1".
So there would be some other way to define "1-fiscalyear".  So Please help me to define "1-fiscalyear"  by giving me the steps.

  • BI 7.0, BEX 3.5, Error while restricting info object

    Hello gurus,
We are using BI 7.0 and Bex 3.5, MS office 2003,OS windows XP. While restricting infoobject, by right clicking on the infoobject and chosing the opiton restrict, we are encountering some error messages "fatal error terminating", "Automation error the object invoked has disconnected from its client", next error message is "Active X could not create the object".
    Thanks & Regards
    Rahul

    Hi Rahul
Iam also working on BI7.0 and Bex 3.5,i too encountered same problem. One way to resolve the problem is, consider below example
Suppose if u r trying to restrict 0Fiscper Infoobject, try to open variables and select the required variable in the Left column(i mean under Dimensions) then drag and drop that variable into rows or columns, then ur problem get's resolved. What i observed is, if we are trying to right click the infoobject and restrict it when it is in rows or column, then this is giving "fatal error and terminating from login.
Let me know if u need any further information.
    Thanks

  • How to restrict values of characteristics in Bex

    Hi All,
I want to restrict values for a particular characteristics starting from ZABC* in Bex without writing CMOD ABAP code
    For Ex
    ZABC123
    12656
    ZABC234
So in the report o/p shd be
    ZABC123
    ZABC234

    Hi Roshan,
I don't understand well your issue, but I will try to answer to you with two possible solutions anyway.
You can use the variable not in the characteristic filter but in each index. For example, if you have two indexes to be displayed in your column structure, try to filter them with the characteristic value variable. In this case you can probably see all of the characteristic values but for only ones that start from ZABC* you can see KFs values.
According to an another my supposition, you can use an exception (there is a dedicated tab when you restrict your characteristic). You can find more informations reading the following link:
    http://help.sap.com/SAPhelp_nw70/helpdata/en/43/21b4cd14cd06f4e10000000a422035/content.htm
    Hope it helps.
    Best regards.
    Simone.
