BEx Statistics

Hello - I was wondering if anyone knew where I can gather statistical information on BEx queries and BEx workbooks.  For instance, I'm looking for:
1) BEx Queries
-How many exist today?
-Which ones have been used in the past year and how often?
2) BEx Workbooks
-same questions from BEx Queries apply
-also, is it possible to link the query(s) to the workbook?  For instance, does the query exist in a workbook?  How many, etc.
2) Users
-How many users are there?
-What type of security do the users have?
-How often do they use BEx queries?
-How often do they use BEx workbooks?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance!

  • Query executes in RSRT but not in BEx Analyzer

    Hi Everyone,
I have a query for an infocube and ods object, in the bex analyzer for the infocube the query executes which has around 5000 records but for the ods object which has also 5000 records comes up with this error.
<b>An exception with the type CX_SY_EXPORT_NO_SHARED_MEMORY occurred, but was
neither handled locally, nor declared in a RAISING
    Message no. RS_EXCEPTION000</b>
when I execute the query in RSRT it comes up.
After closing and re logging into bex analyzer executes the query for the first but for the second time again it throws up this error.
What could be the problem? Can anyone please let me know. Its really really urgent.
    Thanks,
    Prashant.

    hi Prashant,
try check in RSRT, after choose your query, click 'properties' and set cache mode to 'main memory cache without swapping'.
also check oss note 656060-OLAP: Cache main memory displacement not functioning.
    hope this helps.
    Symptom
Although one of the following two cache modes
Main Memory Cache Without Swapping (mode 1)
Main Memory Cache With Swapping (mode 2)
is set for a query, long runtimes occur when you execute the query. The statistics (table RSDDSTAT) display the database times.
If there is a heavy system load, the following message can also appear: RS_EXCEPTION000: No left space in shared memory.
    Other terms
    Cache, performance, displacement, shared buffer
    Reason and Prerequisites
This problem occurs because the shared memory is insufficiently dimensioned.
    <b>Solution</b>
Increase the amount of shared memory. The size of the shared memory should be at least 200 MB. You can refer to transaction RSRCACHE for the amount of memory reserved by the main memory cache (RSRCACHE -> Main Memory: Shared Memory/Buffer Reserved).
The corresponding settings are (at least):
    rsdb/esm/buffersize_kb = 200000
    and, as a precaution, also
    rsdb/esm/max_objects = 10000.
Alternatively, for queries with large resulting quantities, you can convert the Cache Mode in transaction RSRT1 to
Cluster/Flat File Cache for Each Application Server (mode 3)
Cluster/Flat File Cache Across Each Application Server (mode 4)

    Hi,
this is a known issue. Please check these corrective notes:
1494404 - Using Webi query filters based on dates using "Greater than" and "Less than" does not work properly when based on SAP BEx.
1467239 - Date prompts produce incorrect result with 'Between', 'Greater than or Equal' or 'Less than or Equal' filter operators when a Webintelligence report is based on OLAP universe

  • BI Statistics cannot be captured in Portal or Query Designer

We're experiencing inconsistent behavior of the BI Statistics capturing mechanism, possibly after our recent upgrade to  SAPKW70015.   It appears that only queries run via the Bex Analyzer are correctly captured in log tables (RSDDSTAT), whereas queries run via the Portal are not (instead, we get unknown entries with object name RSDRI, rather than query/infoprovider names in the log tables).
We've developed a very sophisticated application to report on BI usage ( top n queries by infoarea, by infoprovider, by CPU, by DB-records, by OLAP-records,  all queries used by a user etc) and to find out who is using which query, as well as associated resource consumption, at any given time, in real time.
This bug completely throws us off balance. We can no longer  monitor query acitivites on the Portal; nor can we trust the BI statistics we've collected in the last two years.  Another BI installation has reported the same problem to SAP.  SAP seems to think upgrade to SP17, which could be a major step,  will fix the problem.  Is there anything we can do in the mean time to fix this problem without having to wait for upgrade to SP17 ?  Is there an OSS note on this issue ?
    (we have SAP_BW Release 700 SP15; SAP_ABA/SAP_BASIS Release 700 Level 13; SEM-BW Releae 602 Level 1; ST-PI 2005_1_700 level 5; PI_BASIS 2006_1_700 level 2; ST-A/PI 01H_BC0700 level 0)
Suggestions will be very much appreciated.
    Henry Hone.

    Hi,
If the BW statistics are not recorded for a Web Report, this may be because recording was not activated for at least one query (or its InfoProvider). Depending on the calculation sequence, the BW statistics may also not be written for the other queries. The solution is to activate the BW  statistics for all of the Web Report InfoProviders.
    Check oss notes
Note 608483 - BW statistics: Reports for Web reports
Note 309955 - BW statistics - Questions, answers and errors
    Hope it helps.

  • BEX WAD 7.0:  Chart Takes Long Time to Display in Portal - Query runs FAST

I have a BEx WAD 7.0 template which contains 3 column charts (each with it's own seperate DataProvider/Query).  When the page loads...two of the charts show up right away, but one of them takes almost a minute to display on the screen (I thought it was missing at first).
I ran all three queries in the BEx Query Analyzer (including the one for the chart that takes forever to load) and they all complete within 3 seconds of hitting "Execute."  So I don't believe it is the query causing this issue.
The chart that doesn't show up right away does have more data to display than the other two...but I have queries/charts on other web templates that contain 3-times the data of this one and show up fine when executed in the portal.
Anyone else having this issue or have an idea on how I can optimize the WAD charts and/or find out what is causing this issue?  Again...the query that fuels this chart completes its execution in about 3-4 seconds.
Thank you for your time and of course points will be assigned accordingly.
    Kevin

    Hi,
have you already checked how much time the IGS consumes when creating the charts?
Run TA SIGS and check the statistics values.

  • How can I reduce BEx Query execution time

    Hi,
I have a question regarding query execution time in BEx.
I have a query that takes 45 mins to 1 hour to execute in BEx analyser. This query is run on a daily basis and hence I am keen to reduce the execution time.  Are there any programs or function modules that can help in reducing query execution time?
    Thanks and Regards!

    Hi Sriprakash,
1.Check if your cube is performance tuned: in the manage cube from RSA1 / performance tab: check if all indexes and statistics are green. Aggregate IDx should as well be.
    2.Condense your cubes regularly
    3. Evaluate the creation of an aggregate with all characteristic used in the query (RSDDV).
4.Evaluate the creation of a "change run aggregate": based on a standalone NavAttr (without its basic char in the aggr.) but pay attention to the consequent change run when loading master data.
    5. Partition (physically) your cubes systematically when possible (RSDCUBE, menu, partitioning)
    6. Consider logical partitioning (by year or comp_code or ...) and make use of multiproviders in order to keep targets not too big...
7.Consider creating secondary indexes when reporting on ODS (RSDODS)
8.Check if the query runtime is due the master data read or the infoprovider itself, or the OLAP processor and/or any other cause in tx ST03N
9.Consider improving your master reads by creating customized IDX (BITMAP if possible and depending on your data) on master data table and/or attribute SIDs when using NAvs.
10.Check that your basis team did a good job and have applied the proper DB parameters
11.Last but not least: fine tune your datamodel precisely.
hope this will give you an idea.
    Cheers
    Sunil

  • No exclusion for hierarchies in BEx query

I am trying to determine why a hierarchy cannot be excluded in a BEx filter.
We have a profit center with a hierarchy and sub-hierarchies under the main hierarchy.
I have a BEx query setup so the profit center is in the Free Selection area.  Under the Properties section the main hierarchy is set and the Activate Hierarchy Display option is turned on.
When I run the BEx report and access the filter, I can see the hierarchies and sub-hierarchies, but there is not option to exclude a sub-hierarchy (red dot).
Is this normal or am I missing something?
    Let me know,
    Bill

    Hello Yi,
I don't know about the message in the trace. Try running the query in transaction RSRT first. Check the BW statistics in table RSDDSTAT. If QDBSEL and/or QDBTRANS are 0, then there's probably some incorrect restriction in your query.
You can also do a SQL trace and check if the big SQL statements return some records. There have been cases where the database did not work correctly (see SAP notes).

  • BI Java SDK: Bex query in Webdynpro java

    Hi,
I want to know is it possible to view a Bex query output
in a webdynpro java application. There is a Bex query defined i just want to get the report of this query or atleast the output of this query. Also how will be the output structure? i am not familier to BI plz help. I did go though BI SDK documentation but did not help
    Vinay

    Hi Vinay,
The BEx query output in webdynpro is with help connectors. the connector SAP query which you were speaking about is one of the four options. I hope this is the link what u were refering to link:[http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/6e/011e681cf74ab4b3acf73f77653405/frameset.htm]
SAP Query is a component of SAP's Web Application Server that allows you to create custom reports without any ABAP programming knowledge. The BI SAP Query Connector uses SAP Query to allow applications created with the BI Java SDK to access data from these SAP operational applications.SAP Query offers users a broad range of ways to define reports and create different types of reports such as basic lists, statistics, and ranked lists.
It would be a better option if  with JDBC connector because that worked for me in extarcting data from a different source system.BI JDBC Connector is aslo used to make these data sources available in BW, via BW's UD Connect.
For the WD code i need to check.
Please tell me if its helpful.
    Regards,
    Shaila.

  • BO migration from BEx reports

One of my client is running on SAP IS Retail 6.0, and they have few BW reports. Now they are looking for migrating the BEx reports to BO XI.
They do not want to change anything, but want to port the reports as is to BO from BEx.
My previous experience of porting BEx reports to BO as is, without puting extra filters of something, to reduce the huge data size images was not good at all.
Is there any way to have better performance in BO than the current BEx performance, if we want to port the reports as is without any structural change?
Please share your experience with me.

My company is running Webi reports using BOBJ XI 3.1 (up to current fixpack level) on SAP BI 7.01 EHP1-SP5. This config gives 50% reduction in Memory, 30% improvement in runtimes, on average compared to 7.0 BI, according to SAP. But is it good enough for full corporate deployment?
My understanding of the Webi <-> SAP BI architecture is that we still have a large image sent to the XI Box from the query -> universe -> Webi report refresh. The big flaw here in my view is that Webi is disconnected from the OLAP database tables after the refresh, thus must 'image' everything the report requires, in our case into a 32 bit Windows NT box.
This is quite different from the SAP BI OLAP front-end model, in which user navigations are threaded in various ways (sometimes from cache, from aggregates, from indexes on the DSO characteristics etc), as we can see in our BI OLAP processing steps in BI statistics.
After the Webi refresh, there are no 'threads', or calls, back to BI ABAP tables, as the Webi report has to represent all the potential navigation in the MDX model. For this reason it seems a fundamentally resource-intensive architecture, that can induce instability when very large sets of data are retrieved in concurrent user sessions. By "large"  think of the 'cubed' size (count of characteristics X count of key figures X number of transactions).
If user activity results in concurrent refresh calls to generate large report 'images' from SAP BI, I have observed 100% CPU freeze in BOBJ XI, and user lockout until resources are again freed up, which can take a very long time for certain reports. Subsequently when the large images are subjected to user OLAP navigations, CPU processing again will spike.
When running large image reports, the Webi performance has been an 'order of magnitude' slower than our reports running on ABAP web. Unfortunately, the risk is greater than just slow performance - there is the CPU and memory resources that are engaged during that extended processing interval as well.
Much depends on the normal level of user activity. This is a matter of simple statistics. Say your overalll production BI system load averages ten users per hour running reports. If Webi report runtime averages 30 minutes per refresh, and BEx ABAP runs in 5 minutes, the probabillity of concurrent resource collisions is much higher - from 10% to 50%, thus the situation can snowball rapidly.
I think SAP is working very hard on this problem, but has issued guidance as recently as May 2009,  that if you have current BEx reports that are working, don't migrate them all yet. Unfortunately our users are anxious to run everything in the Webi tool, because it is indeed a super user interface.
However, customers have until 2016 until the Bex tools are phased out. Interviewed by Searchsap, Jonathan Becher, SAP Sr. VP, said, "There are lots of scenarios that BEx does just fine, if you're confident using BEx, don't rush."  The same article also quoted Cindy Coyle of Coors, who had tested the Webi BOBJ: ""Don't go near Business Objects [until you get a BWA]," Coyle said, "because it'll only add more performance problems on top of what's there today." • ODS Bex Reporting Off and SID Question??

    Hi...
We were looking at the Specific question below:----
We have switched off the BEx reporting functionality on an ODS and are using an Infoset to query against the ODS, so there is only 1 table in this Infoset.
    Question:----
Does the Query written on this Infoset need to go through a SID table fo eg: It spends a lot of time in Serial Nbr SID table (/BIC/SZSERNR) which is an Infobject used in the ODS.
I tried a few things as explained below:----
I actually created a few New Infobjects based on the Infobjects from the Original ODS. We created a new ODS similar to the original ODS by replacing some of the Old Infobjects with the New Infobjects. I switched Off the Bex Reporting option for this ODS. It did not inserts any SID’s while loading the Data into this New ODS...However while executing the Query on an Infoset built on this New ODS, it updated the SID table for the New Infobjects.
I was wondering when the option of Switching Off BEx Reporting is to facilitate faster Loading of Data, why does the query need to insert the SID’s during the Query execution as that increases the Response time on the Query. These New Infobjects are not used in any Infocubes so is there a necessity to maintain the SID’s as we are trying to Query on an Infoset.
    Please provide your valuable opinions..
    Thanks and Regards
    Andy

    Andy,
I'm not sure, but this could be a track.
The ODS or Infoset are checked to update the BW Statistics? Maybe a update is taken if BW Statistics are tracking the query execution on these dataproviders.

  • BW statistics for ods objects

    Hi Everyone,
In the search criteria I found documents only for bw statistics for infocubes. but not for ods objects.
After executing the queries for the ods objects in the bex, the entries are not made in rsddstat table, then where else it is store.
Can anyone please let me know how can I find the query runtime of ods objects.
    Thanks,
    Prashant.

    Hi,
Yes I marked for the ods objects also for olap and whm, and executed the query in bex analyzer but still I do not get any entries for these objects in RSDDSTAT table.
What could be the problem. Is there a different procedure to find the query runtime of ods objects, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Prashant.
