Bex Upgrade

Hi All,
We are upgrading our web templates from 3x to 7x and want to know if the below options can be specifically enabled in 7x webtemplates
1. When I execute any web template and open the F4 help window for any variable in the variable entry screen we get all the attributes of the object unlike 3x, is there any setting in web template where I control the fields? I want to enable only the master data and text instead of all the attributes
Ex : As shown below I want to dsiplay only the Contract key and Text when we use F4 for help and not the attributes like Contract Owner
Also same the case when we execute the report and filter for any values the all the data in the master data along with attributes are displayed! can we have only the values that are posted? Is there a way to control it in web template?
I know we have options in the Info Object > Business Explorer tab but is there anything that can be done in Web Template as there is a option in 3x version
Thanks
Abhishek Shanbhogue

Hi Abhishek,
1. Yes you can do it in 7x. You have the setting Order for F4 help in attributes tab of the characteristic (you do it in the modeling pane in bw system). This setting is used in all queries. As far as I know there is no setting in web template you can play with for this aim.
2. you can have "only posted values" property in query settings in bex designer. Use the advanced tab for the setting.

It will be great if there are any step by step documents or in details the steps to walk through the complete reporting Bex Upgrade to 7.0.
I would also like to know : if there are any hardware requirements specific for the Reporting Upgrade.
    Thanks.

  • Workbook Text Elements are missing After Upgrade to BI7.0

    Hi All
I am unable to see "Text Elements" in Workbook which is migrated from BW3.x to BI 7.0.
    I am using Windows XP, MS-office 2007, GUI 710 FEP5.
workbook is working fine with Bex 3.0
I had checked all the pre- requisite for BI 7.0 and BEx .
    Please advise me.
    Regards
    Vivek Tripathi

This is an Known issue while upgrading WB's to BI7 and we have posted the same to SAP.
    Try this procedure,
Open your 3.x Wb in BI7-bex - Click okie on Bex upgrade popup.
Click on change variables in your WB now and enter necessary variable values.
Now save you WB in BI7-Bex . Try re opening the same WB,
You have to see your text elements now after refresh.
if u save the same WB, w/o refresh or change varaibles, you will again miss text elements.
The below is the reply from SAP.
" As following to our call, I was able to open the workbook sap_test2( test WB that SAP has created in our system to replicate the problem) and to refresh it in the latest patch 17. However after saving it without
refreshing it, I was not able to open the workbook. so we are investigating the issue.however as temporary workaround you can the following
    1. Eenable the "Refresh workbook on open" property. this will prevent
user from saving workbook without refreshing
    2. You can apply a ABAP note which disallow users to upgrade 3.x
workbooks. But the note is currently in pilot released."
Ohoo, I think you are from Satyam..the above is the latest info that we got from SAP.

  • PIONEER RELEASE

    Hello everyone!
I have being searching for information regarding this cutting edge tool but never got a clear picture about what Pioneer will offer and I hope someone within this forum can solve my concerns regarding BEX upgrade and Pioneer overall:
1.- Which BEX query features we will lost during the upgrade and what we do gain.
2.- Will Pioneer security be based on bex auhorization for BW purposes? Does that imply the useness of Analysis Authorization (in 7.0)?
    3.- Is the ramp-up planned for 2010 Q1 as I read?
4.- I would like to know whether it is possible to enhance Bex original queries with the adoption of BO features as well or they will coexist independently within Pioneer though.
Please I do really appreciate any info regarding this topic.
    Thanks in advance!
    Juan Manuel.

    Hello Manuel
The latest details on Pioneer have been posted at Link: [Latest update on SAP BusinessObjects Analysis software (aka Pioneer);. I cannot go into too much detail at this moment but to brief answer your questions...
    1) Almost all BEx query features are planned to be supported.
    2) Pioneer will use BEx security when used against BW. I am not sure about the use of Analysis Authorization at this time.
    3) Pioneer is planned for 2010. I would anticipate H2 for ramp-up.
    4) BEx queries are still designed using the Query Designer. However additional analysis can be added on top of these and saved as a separate Pioneer workspace. Pioneer can enhance queries but it will not change original queries.

  • Input-Ready row with characteristic in column

    Hi,
I have several workbooks based on queries with the property of having an Input-Ready row (context of integrated planning).
These always worked fine, but after a bex upgrade only some of the queries continued to display the input-ready row at the bottom.
A reason why only sometimes it works, has been asked to SAP.
    SAP refers to:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/43/f234619e3c4c5de10000000a155369/frameset.htm
    which says:
You cannot use characteristics in the columns and can use one structure only.
My queries mostly contain 0fiscper and 0amount in the columns.
Following the above logic, the input-ready row never should appear since I display the amount over 12 months (=characteristic in column).
    BEx:
Bi AddOn 7.X (based on 7.10)
    Support Package 8, Patch 1
    additional info:
    - All queries were designed in 7.x.
    - Same result in BEx Analyzer without using Workbook.
    Question:
    - What could be the reason that in some cases the input-ready row still appears, and in others not?
    - Any suggestions for workaround?
    Thx in advance!
    Rgds, Sam

I beleive if you post it in "Business planing" queue you will get good response...

  • Variable screen performance in BEx - post upgrade to BI7

    Hello,
We have recently upgraded to BI7 - SP16.  We are using the 710 gui, patch level 3.  Bex version is 3.5, patch level 6.
Since we have upgraded, we have been experiencing a major performance hit when opening the variable screen of a query, as well as navigating within the variable screen.  We are using the Excel version of BEx.
When we were on 3.5, opening the variable screens only took about 5 seconds, now it takes 30.  To use F4 for the dropdown lists, in 3.5 it took about 3 seconds, now it takes 15.  To enter multiple selections, it took 1 second, in BI7 it takes 15.
Our users, needless to say are getting very frustrated with the performance.  The query execution time is comparable to when we were on 3.5.
I have this open as a high priority issue with sap, but they have yet to come up with a fix.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Charla

    Hi
    check this notes:
Analyzer variable screen: Performance and documentation
    SAP Note Number: [1044219|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bw_bex/~form/handler%7b5f4150503d3030323030363832353030303030303031393732265f4556454e543d444953504c4159265f4e4e554d3d31303434323139%7d]

I think note 1044219 is important for you:
    1. The BEx Web Analyzer executes queries before the system displays the variable dialog. This cannot be avoided.
    2. You cannot prevent the BEx Web Analyzer from saving variables in the workbook and using them again when you reopen it.
Additional it includes other notes and hints regarding performance in variable screen and F4 help.

  • Scheduled BEX Broadcaster reports does not work automatically after BW 7.3 upgrade

    Hello,
We recently upgraded our BW system from 7.0 to 7.31
Since then broadcasting reports has been inconsistent. Not all the reports are broadcasted.
Some reports of object type Query has been scheduled to run everyday but I don't see that in released status in SM37.
Some WAD templates throws an error that states " JAVA SYSTEM ERROR : EXCEPTION in method process function"
WAD reports also flags this warning : "Transformation Exception while transforming BEX web templates" in all the reports.
    System Version:
    BI ABAP 7.31 SP11
BI JAVA 7.00 SPS 30 Patch.
Most of the suggested SAP Notes are covered in this release.
SAP suggests to upgrade BI JAVA. But we are looking for a quick fix  since JAVA upgrade has to go through a process and that's time consuming.
    Appreciate your suggestions on this.
    Thanks,
    Nithya.

    Hi,
Please have a look to the Blog - BI-JAVA, BEx Web and EP: the real connection to resolve your Problems after the Upgrade to 7.31.
There a quite massive differences between BI-JAVA 7.0x and 7.3x.

  • Enabling upgraded Excel version in BW/Bex

Hi all - quick (and hopefully dumb easy-to-answer) question. I've trawled through the forums but cannot find the answer. We are running BW 3.1 with Bex queries coming through into Excel 2000. If we remove Excel 2000 and install Excel 2007, Bex pick this up OK. However, if we only upgrade Excel 2000 to Excel 2007 (the cheaper option), BW/Bex still defaults to using Excel 2000. Are there any settings in BW or Windows registry we can change to force the use of Excel 2007 by default?
    Many thanks
    Stuart

    hi Maili,
While creating formula variable it will have different tabs in the pop up, please set the below settings in different tabs:
    General Tab:
    Processing by: Replacement path
    Reference Char: Sales order
    Replacement path tab:
    Replace variable with: Infoobject
    Replace with: Key
    Curreny/Unit tab:
    Dimension: Number
The above formula variable will return the value of Sales order as number, use this in formula or CKF.
The numbers in SAP are by default shown with , or . depending upon the user setting.
The number 10000 will either be shown 10,000 or 10.000 in the bex report as per the user setting in tcode SU01.
If you are using . for showing decimals in the number then , will be used after 3 digits i.e. 10,000.00 and if you are using , as decimal notation then it shows as 10.000,00.
    regards,
    Arvind.

  • Issue opening BEx workbooks after 720 upgrade

    Hi Gurus,
We use a custom web template to leverage BW [BW-ABAP] security over the Portals [BW-JAVA]. In other words we do not need to create iViews in Portal for each BW Query or BW Workbook.
Earlier we were using 710 GUI with BI 70 Add-on. Now we are upgrading to 720 GUI [patch 5] with BI 70 Add-on [patch 400].
Now when I launch BEx workbook via the Portal, it launches Excel with the BI 70 Add-on [under Excel Add-Ins tab] and then it launches the SAP GUI screen with a success message "No authorization to change role abc. Message no. S#423".  The BEx Toolbox connection icon [right besides the yellow question-mark] shows disconnected.
This happens even when I try to launch the BEx Analyzer directly from Portal.
Any help or guidance is heartily appreciated and I promise to award points.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Changes to Bex Reports during CRM Upgrade

    Hi,
What kind of changes are involved in correction/adjustments for BeX Reports during  CRM Upgrade from 5.0 to 7.0?
(If possible, please let us know the effort that may be involved for correction of 1 BeX report?)
    Thanks & regards,
    Uma.

    Joseph,
By tracking changes... what is it that you are looking at ?
    Options include :
    1. Monitor the transport log for objects created...
    2. Monitor RSZGLOBV table for when changed option ( not sure if one is available )
Usually the CMS ( Change Management System ) otherwise known as the transports help maintain changes..

  • Bex Report Upgrade to BO Web I or Crystal Reports

    Hello Everyone,
Since SAP acquired Business Objects, probably SAP might have the solutions for upgrading the Bex Reporting into BO Web I reporting.
Could you please share some documents on the upgradation from Bex 3.x version to BO reporting.
I have gone through the Road Map of Business Objects, in that presentation Pioneer tool "provides a superset of capabilities from SAP BEx Analyzer (Excel), SAP BEx Analyzer (Web), and SAP BusinessObjects Voyager"

  • BEx web problem after upgrade: hierarchy variable and OK button

    Hi experts,
we are busy in an upgrade project in which both portal and BW are being upgraded to 7.40.
After upgrading we find several problems in which we get stuck.
First problem: every query that has a variable on an infoobjects marked with a hierarchy does not work in Java Web.
As soon as we press the lookup button the browser freezes.
In ABAP web en Bex analyzer everything is OK.
Our release is BW 7.40 SP5. For the Java things we had to upgrade Bex web components to 7.40 SP6.20 (BW Java and portal system).
On OSS, SCN and google we cannot find any clues for this.
We are preparing the OSS call for SAP but maybe anyone of you experts has faced the same issue.
    Any advice is welcome.
    Second problem:
When a variable screen pops up and everything has been filled in, we have to press the OK button twice (instead of once).
The first OK does a check/validate and then returns to the screen instead of proceeding when check is OK.
Has 7.4 introduced a new setting we have to adjust for this?
Or might this be a bug?
    Thanx for your reactions.
    Marco

    Hi,
Regarding the variable screen button needs two click to execute, you will have to apply SP07 Patch 20 for only below 5  BI Java components for BI Java 740.
For BI Java 730 , SP12 Patch 10 will solve this issue
For BI Java 731,  SP12 Patch 20 will solve this issue
    This will solve your issue.
    BI-BASE-B
    BI-BASE-E
    BI-BASE-S
    BI-IBC
    BIWEBAPP
Please make sure that you RESTART the Java server after applying the Patches.

    Amit
