Beyond the Basics Training?

I have been using iMovie for the past 3 or 4 years and know the basics of how things work. iMovie 11 has most of the same features as the older versions and some nifty new stuff, as well. I want to learn more about iMovie than just the basics, but have not been able to find a class at an Apple store that does just that. Does anyone know of any videos posted online that might teach more in-depth practices? Does anyone have any other advice for learning more about iMovie than just using it and learning as I go? I know iMovie can do lots more than I am using it for.

I simply need help placing my FCP sequence on DVD - The basics

Hello All,
I've completed a sequence on FCP that I would like to place on DVD. I have followed the instructions in Final Cut Pro - Beyond the Basics, but apparently I'm not. The files are showing up on the DVD, but the file transfer process never stops. When I force a quit, and open one of the icons on the DVD (I believe one is sound, and the other video) The compressor program opens, but nothing happens as expected. I'm sure this should be easier, but I may be moving down the wrong path. Can someone provide a road sign, a map, GPS, ...?
I know this is vague, but I am utterly confused. My aplogies.

Thanks for the quick reply. To be honest, I've been working out of the Apple Pro Training Series books, as they were a bit more user friendly. I'll go back to the manuals. As far as versions of software is concerned. It's all new stuff, purchased in the last month: OS X (10.4.10), FCP 6.0, etc.
The sequence is DV/DVCPro - NTSC

Because I want to install that softwares in my pc.

are they using for GUI.There are a large number of libraries that you can use to develop a GUI. On Solaris, some of the more common ones are Motif, Gtk, Qt and wxWindows. I can vouch for Qt being a sound product, but the commercial licences are not cheap.

windows XP)If you want to write unix software, you will have to install unix. You may be able to use some form of virtual PC like vmware, otherwise you will have to install Solaris and dual boot. This is beyond the scope of this forum.
Alternatively you can install a compiler on XP. If you want to write unix style software under Windows, then this is possible with cygwin. Otherwise there are numerous C/C++ compilers for Windows.
I do not know which cd i have to bye.You can download Sun Studio 11 for free. gcc is installed with the OS.

That's going to be a ridiculous waste of money and energy.
First of all, the current ATI drivers don't support multiple GPUs, so at the moment even a single 4870X2 would be only a 'normal' 4870 (which is quite a speed beast already). GFX drivers evolve rapidly, so things might look different next month, but when it comes to Linux and hardware there's one Golden Rule: stay away from the newest stuff and wait for proper support to get coded.
I also wonder what power supply could possibly cope with the differences between idle and full load; that's way beyond 400W. But then, I'm one of those "quiet&green" types where >100W idle is already a bit much.
I kind of understand that you want to get it done and not worry about hardware for the next 10 years or so, but that's simply not how the hardware world works and never did. At least not for the average consumer.

Suspending service while in Army basic training?

I have been a Verizon customer for almost 10 years..when I go to Army basic training what do I do with my phone/cell service? Am i allowed to break my contract or do i suspend it temporarily? I'll be gone for about 19+ weeks and don't want to pay for service if I can't use it. Thanks!

**** soundbooth missing the BASICS ?

according to me SOUNDBOOTH misses the BASIC FEATURE
that is "volume envelope" ,
I mean bezier or linear curves ( with " add points " tool to set the volume along the timeline ! )
I know there is the GAIN stuff with clicking etc...
but it's easy to use of course, ....but for beginners !
When doing some hard job , professionnal settings ,
NOTHING replaces the curves ( who said PROTOOLS ? ) ,
and the editing points , that you can change , oups sorry , ADJUST ,
and adjust , and adjust , and this with ease in - ease out transition !
Gestural and graphical editing is the future .
NB: GAIN in soundbooth is like working on a flatten image in PHOTOSHOP,
instead of having layers !
Sad to say , but that's THE reason why we didn't choose SOUNDBOOTH ...
it as having a super car with ... no wheels !
Do some upgrades and we'll change or mind for sure !

I've got to jump in and defend Soundbooth. In the interest of full disclusure I do use BOTH Audition and Soundbooth. The library I am working for produces audiobooks that are eventually distributed in a special format. The tools that came with the program used for capture and conversion to the special format are the pits when it comes to editing. We use a corps of volunteers to do the intermediate editing. many of these people had no prior experience and, for some, this was their first time using a computer.
With a little on the job training, our volunteers are doing an outstanding job editing the recorded material using Soundbooth. Yes, Audition affords more control and will do some jobs that Soundbooth cannot, but 90% of our editing work is done with Soundbooth. Audition is usually reserved for final assembly, Open for Append is so much easier than Cut 'n' Paste, and generating index tones.
As I said, we do use Audition as well, so I am not trying to say Soundbooth is the be all and end all of audio editing software, but it is very easy to learn and, with some patience, will do some very complex tasks.

Tutorial on the Basics?

Does anyone know of a tutorial that shows you how to interact with an iPad2? As in how to use the various gestures. I just don't think the User Guide is useful and the guided-tours cover specific applications, but not the basics. I find that having someone read or trying to explain how to do something over the phone for something that is so different and visual just isn't working well.

Just seems to me that a lot of really important stuff is left out of the guided tours - unless I'm missing it. And I have not found anything very good on Google or YouTube that covers this either.

I already mentioned that I did not think the user guide was user friendly and the guided tours left out a lot of very important information. For example, I didn't see anything in the guided tours about how to move the insertion point, something I was frustrated with the first week I used my iPad. I read the manual and watched the tours, but I guess I missed that one little sentence that explained this. Also, when searching the manual after the fact for this specific information, I was searching on "cursor" and they use the words "insertion point". Just an example of when language and manuals are not always the best way to learn something. I think there needs to be more of a visual tour of the basic gestures and was hoping that someone has already done it.
I think I've mastered most things at this point, but now I am helping other people at work learn to use their iPads and I was hoping to find a better learning tool for them. Since I do most of my training remotely, I cannot just show them.
Seems like the iPads have been out long enough that surely someone has put together a good basic video.

How do you access the new training section for the Creative Cloud Update?

I have done all of the Adobe updates, but I don't see the new Training catergory at the top of the screen when I log into the Creative Cloud Connection next to the Apps and Files category.

The training will be available very soon. Both Training and Folder Sharing/Collaboration had "coming soon" shown briefly during the video.
And yes I am just as frustrated as you with something that is pre-announced that you cannot then immediately go and try.

best would be you read a little bit... check out pdf.coreservlets.com where you can download a very good ebook that explains the basics of servelts/jsps....

Forms based authentication + Basic authentication = no way to use the basic auth!!!!

I setup a test sharepoint site, claims mode, with both the forms and basic authentication enabled.
I expect to see the page asking me which authentication method I want to use, but I never see this page!!!
I have to select the windows authentication (NTLM or Kerberos) to see this page!
why using only the Basic authentication did not prompt the user?
and how to be authenticated using the basic authentication rather than the forms auth when both are enable for the same site?

Can anyone help me connect my Macbook Air to a SAMSUNG TV. When I follow the basic instructions (Thunderbolt to HDMI connection) the screen on my computer goes grey and an error message appears inviting me to press any button to restart the Macbook. When I do this nothing happens. Only when I disconnect the computer from the TV does the Macbook allow me to login. The TV does not receive any signal from the Macbook even though I know the HDI port works fine. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Do I need to enable something on the Macbook?

An update...
I downloaded Apple's (rather large!) list of software updates today, and I was finally able to recognize my iPod again. I did a restore using the iPod updater from 06-2006, and all seemed to work OK. (I'm afraid to try the new one again!)
Then I tried to re-load my music library from iTunes, and got stuck. It froze up after a while and wouldn't go any further.
When I disconnected my iPod from my computer, I find 2 podcasts and nothing else, though iTunes told me it had transferred 600+ songs. Those 2 podcasts do play fine, and the basic iPod software all seems to be intact.
So -- anyone get through this connection problem and have any ideas to share??

I am having trouble with app updates on my iOS 5 iPhone never getting beyond the "waiting" state. I have tried signing out/in of my account, rebooting and removing/re-installing the apps. This started shortly after going to iOS 5 but I am not certain if that is related. All updates that I try now are stuck in "waiting". I also tried removing the apps and then installing via iTunes desktop sync with no improvement. The only thing that I have not tried so far is a restore to a prior iPhone backup. I have not been able to find anything to indciate what the updates on waiting on. There is plenty of space on the iPhone (16gb available). Any suggestions on what to try next?

First thing I would recommend is to check your downloads queue to make sure there is not an interrupted download per the following Knowledge Base article:

If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
2. For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
3. Enter your account name and password if prompted.
4. Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
If you can't complete the download on your iOS device, you can download it in iTunes on your Mac or PC and then sync it to your iOS device. You can also transfer purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer.
For Apps, you can also try tapping on the application icon to resume the download, as outline in this featured discussion:

Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

I am having a big problem downloading the basic essentials content

Basic essentials content, 3 times in a day (This is after doing a clean install of OS X Lion on my Mac and then re-downloading Logic) i have/Logic has, tried to download the basic essentials content and then the download freezes.
Whats happening?

When you connect your iPod to iTunes, look on the Device/Photos pane and choose the one folder on your computer (for example "Pictures Set A") that you want to use to Sync with your iPod, by using the Browse button.
In that folder ("Pictures Set A"), put any folders that you want to Sync with your iPod (such as "Holiday in London" and "Day Trip To Sydney" etc. etc.). They are known as sub-folders. Sync the iPod to iTunes.
On the iPod, in the Photos App, you will see a folder named Photo Library which has all your (Synced) photos in it, but without folders. Beneath the Photo Library folder are all the sub-folders, such as "Picture Set A" , "Holiday In London" and "Day Trip To Sydney". Each sub-folder has only the photos that are in that folder on your computer.
For the photos that did not Sync to your iPod, I suggest you follow the message that you saw, "see iTunes for more information". The most likely explanation is that they are in a format the iPod cannot handle.
