BGP/ethernet? troubleshooting?

I have a 10M ethernet link and am up/up on the link, I can ping the neighbor, but am not seeing BGP established on my end ("Active").  Telco is telling me they are sending routes, but are not receiving routes from me.  My question is in a state of "Active" BGP with the ability to ping the vendor's IP, should I see any routes for "show ip bgp neighbors x.x.x. advertise-routes"?  In my current state, should I be expecting to see zero (proving I have a problem) or is that normal behavior while BGP is not established?  I am under the impression I won't see advertised routes until BGP is actually established.
I am new to troubleshooting BGP over an ethernet link.  Essentially, when I am seeing up/up on the link and I am reasonably sure my config is accurate (hasn't changed in a year, nothing has changed on my end) with the issue not on my end.  There really isn't much active troubleshooting I can do to prove this out as a telco issue - I am at a standstill with them and am unsure of the next step.  Please share advice?

BGP active means that you have set up your BGP and it is sending hellos to its peer. It is not changing to established as it is not able to handshake the BGP session  with that peer.
If you are pretty sure nothing has changed at your end and BGP was established before this behavior could be related to an ACL that is being applied for BGP on port 179 in one of the ends. ( Probably your ISP)
With the command advertise-routes you are seeing what you are advertising to your peer but if BGP is in active state it wont show anything.
I would recommend to ask your telco if they are applying any kind of fancy ACL.

  • Airport express ethernet troubleshooting with Belkin Powerline HD

    Dear All,
    Equipment:
x3 Airport Express stations (G generation not N)
x3 Belkin Powerline HD (up to 1000mbit)
x1 iMac plugged (connected via ethernet)
I have three airport express devices around my house in order to play music in those rooms from itunes.
The Expresses never worked well wirelessly so I decided to buy Belkin Powerline hd devices that create ethernet bridges between my router and the three Airport express devices through the mains supply.
    i. The lights go green when I plug in the ethernet cable on the Airport Expresses
ii. The Belkin Powerline hd boxes have the solid blue light indicating excellent connection
iii. The Airport expresses are set on "ethernet"
but the *airport express devices do not come up on my itunes and not in Airport Utility* on my iMac.
    I have tried the following:
    i. Unplugging one of the airport express devices from the Belkin Powerline hd and plugging my laptop in to the ethernet - and the internet works - so there is a connection between the Belkin Powerline hd devices.
ii. I have tried resetting the Airport expresses, giving them fixed ip addresses.
iii. I have used a regular ethernet between the airport express and my laptop and it registers perfectly.
iv. Tried putting all three Belkin Powerline hd mains devices in mains sockets in the same room.. but still doesn't pick up the airport expresses.
So it's highly confusing... internet works across the Belkin Powerline hd mains devices, the airport express lights come up green - but the airport expresses do not register in itunes or Airport utility. (for accuracy - it does come up for a few minutes when plugged in then disappears).
Please help... Belkin are just as perplexed as I am on this.
    Thanks

Running into the same exact problem with the belkin hd power adapters.
I have an apple tv connected via wired LAN direct to the router that is at the modem. (all in the tv cabinet).
The PC with iTunes is in the office across the house. Previously i was using wireless t connect the PC back to the router.
In an effort to improve the performance, I got the Belkin hd power line adapter starter kit earlier today because of the 1Gbps throughput.
The units connected quickly, and I was able to notice a significant difference on web browsing immediately. However, I could not get the apple tv to see the computer any longer.
After a couple of hours of checking firewall settings on my PC, checking itunes settings and ports, turning off home sharing and restarting it, as well as PC reboots, I was still unable to connect to the PC from the apple tv. I could ping the router from the PC and even ping the apple tv from the PC, but the apple tv and iTunes were still not seeing each other. yes - iTunes was open on the PC when I was trying to connect from the apple tv.
With everything still the same, I disabled the LAN and stuck the USB wireless dongle back in the PC. Once it connected, and I closed and reopened iTunes once more (for good measure) and immediately the apple tv was detected.
So.....there is something blocked on the belkin power line adapter.
Now I am hunting to see if there is a web interface for the belkin adapters that I could tweak in order to resolve this. If not, they are going back to best buy.

  • Specific Ethernet troubleshooting after upgrading to 10.6.5

    Hi everyone
Since I have made the upgrade to 10.6.5, I have got quite an interesting problem which has been already approached on this forum:
I have to say that I DON'T have any trouble to connect to any kind of network (wireless or ethernet) EXCEPT to one. Unfortunately, this is the network of the place in which I have to work every days and I don't have any access to the system, meaning that I can't change anything (cable, config etc.). It seems that the configuration is quite old and I suppose that after my upgrade, this one is not taking in account any more (the I.T. said to me that it could be due to the cable)...
The connection is very unstable, I have a connection which lasts one second ! Right after, the cable is considered as disconnected and the system tries to connect from time to time without any success.
Could it be due to this file ? :
    /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/nvenet.kext
    (Version: 2.0.15)
And do you know if I could replace this file to go back to the earlier configuration without doing a global downgrading? Or is there an alternative solution ?
    thanks
    Romain B.

  • Ethernet over WDM and SDH

How do we manage ethernet circuits over WDM and SDH transmission network? What all OAM tools are available for managing and diasnosis of these circuits.

EoSDH is the term used for transporting ethernet frames over a SDH transmission network. If you can remember SDH, one way this can be achieved is using Virtual Concatanation. Here, n x VC12s are concatanated to get the required speed. ex: if n=5, the speed is 10Mbps.(VC12=2Mbps).(i.e Ethernet frames are put inside the VC12 container and transported.)The SDH equipment will give the customer a normal RJ45 Ethernet interface and in the back end, the no. of VC12s corresponding to the Ethernet speed is concataneted and transported over a STM-1/4/16/64. On the other side, the concatnated VC12s are identified and the Ethernet farmes inside the VC12s are mapped on to the Ethernet interface.
If you see the end to end circuit, you will see ethernet. so normal tools used for Ethernet troubleshooting can be used. SDH troubleshooting tools can be used to test the transport part. There may be tools which can troubleshoot moare than this.

  • 49 err 46c081a

Bought a new PH Envy PC Windows 8.1. We have an hp laserjet 2055dn printer.
    worked fine with windows 7.
with windows 8.1 i'm getting 46 Err 4C081A..turn off and then on, in the printer panel.  The print job is stuck in the prinst queue.
reinstalled the printer driver. using now HP LaserJet UPD PLC6 USB insatalled
replaced winprint.dll version 6.39600.16384 with an older version 4.0. That partually fixed the problem.
HP Print & Scan Doctor doesn't see any problem, but cannot Test Print.

The printer is likely a Laserjet.
If the error only happens when plugging in the ethernet cable, try a different cable.
If the problem still occurs, try a different network port to connect to the network.
Finally, check and reseat the jetdirect card (if applicable).
Edit: Take a look at this thread on the business forums - http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1305228758703+28353475&... - as someone had a similar issue, and a different driver resolved the problem. Their case was different in that it came up regardless, whereas your error comes up whenever ethernet is plugged in - so I would still recommend doing the ethernet troubleshooting above before switching drivers.
Also, check HP.com for and firmware updates for the product.
    Hope this helps

  • How can I troubleshoot Internet Sharing (wifi to ethernet)?

    Hi hi everyone!
Any idea how to troubleshoot wifi/ethernet Internet Sharing? I use to network a media player (like an AppleTV not made by Apple) and recently it stopped working. Luckily I have two macs in the house to shoot the troubles.
I have an iMac running Leopard 10.5.5 and a Powerbook running Tiger.
I have tried sharing both ways (imac wifi » powerbook ethernet and powerbook wiki » imac ethernet) but am only able to get an IP from the DHCP server (Airport Extreme N base station). I am not able to get on the web (google search, etc).
Where can I look to see what's not working?

  • Troubleshooting ethernet on new refurb

Could use some ideas on how to get the wired ethernet working on a new C2D 1.83 GHz Apple-refurb Intel Mini that I just took delivery on today.
Using wireless I just spent the day upgrading to the latest releases on Apple's software. Now running 10.5.2, with every suggested update.
Then went to install it down the hall on a wired ethernet drop and Network system prefs says that no ethernet cable is connected. Tried same cable with an iBook, and it works fine.
I get a good click when I insert the cable, and visual inspection reveals nothing out of sorts with the ethernet plug or jack.
Any suggestions -- hopefully ones that won't involve shipping this back to Apple? Thanks!

With a fresh start this morning, I have hooked up the ethernet drop to an ethernet switch. I then have a fresh ethernet cable running from the switch to the Mini.
Now the cable is detected and ethernet is working!
The ethernet drop was a 100 feet of Cat-5 cable running in conduit from a router. It worked fine with the previous Linux PC and with an iBook. I'm surprised that the ethernet switch was needed to get it to work with the Mini.
Semi OT but I was impressed with how "new" the refurb looked. No blemishes and it even had protective film on the plastic top. Is this the normal "case"? (excuse the pun)

  • Troubleshooting a Wi-Fi - Ethernet bridge

I had this all working about 10 days ago! I connect OK to a hard-wired ethernet link (DHCP works fine). I then set up a shared connection for Wi-Fi (Airport Extreme on the MacBook Pro) and, in networking, create a new network. Previously people could then use this to connect and browse the Internet.
Now they see the new network from their PCs (windoze XP), but can't connect to it or use DHCP. They see their data going to my machine, but nothing coming back. I look at the syslog file and see things like the log items I've posted below this. It looks like bootp is trying to set up an IP address for them with DHCP. The other end just re-tries. I've tried setting a fixed IP address and get no joy either.
Is there a good place to look for log-files explaining this??

What is the WAN port of your airport extreme connected to? A DSL or Cablemodem? Which box is handling the PPPoE login? Ordinarily you'd have the AExtreme do the PPPoE login, with the DSL or cablemodem in bridge mode. And as one poster said, the AExtreme can only do one of those at a time.
But here's an idea, and I don't know if it would work: if your cablemodem (or whatever) is in bridge mode, perhaps you can set up another AExtreme or AirportExpress to do the other PPPoE login, and create its own wireless network. That is, you'd have two routers each creating their own wireless networks. Just make sure they're not on the same subnet, so do one with 10.0.1.x routing (giving the extreme 10.0.1.1), and the other with 192.168.1.x routing (giving the Express 192.168.1.1).
Frankly, I'm not sure this will work, since they'll both be trying to assign the cablemodem an IP address, though maybe that's not a problem. And I don't know if there will be other problems. I defer to others for this answer. But if your ISP allows two connections simultaneously, I'd think it would provide a cablemodem capable of handling two IPs, one for each internal network, as well as one for each external IP.
Or maybe this is no help at all....

  • Troubleshooting with IOS BGP and IOS XR BGP - routing table Empty

    Hi
actually we tried to make a neigborhood between ASR9000 and Cisco 7600, we have the neigborhood active but on routing tables from ASR only have the networks locals or connected doesn´t learn anything from BGP 7600
    the diagram is this:
When try to know the routes on ASR9000 from Cisco 7609 happen the follow
the neighbor is UP from Cisco 7600 and ASR 9000 but the routing table is empty.
the config on cisco 7600 is:
    router bgp 2006
    neighbor 172.16.14.6 remote-as 64512
    address-family ipv4
    neighbor 172.16.14.6 activate
the config on cisco ASR9000 is:
    router bgp 64512
    bgp router-id 172.16.161.1
    address-family ipv4 unicast
    neighbor 172.16.14.5
      remote-as 2006
      address-family ipv4 unicast
    Help us
    Best Regards

Another important one is the fact that in XR you need to have RPL policies (even if they only have a "pass-all" functionality) to accept inbound/outbound routes in eBGP.
Check the article on the asr9000 unequal cost multipath that has some sample BGP outputs and show command verifications that may help also.
If not the case, get us the XR config from the A9K side.
Also what does the bgp table on teh IOS side look like? as Richard suggests, there doesnt seem to be anything injected by the 7600 itself.

  • Ethernet wiring troubleshooting

    Hi everyone,
This is a bit off-topic, but I am hopeful someone out there can help. I am attempting to run an ethernet cable from my Airport Extreme-N base station in my living room to my Airport-G base station in the bedroom. After installing plugs on either end of the cable, I tested the line with a LAN tester. The first 7 conductors were OK, but plug position #8 was activated by the sending device's ground signal (which is the 9th signal sent to the receiver). I'm not sure how this is happening since ethernet lacks a ground conductor. Anyone have any thoughts about remedying this?

Which wiring standard are you using: T568A or T568B? I'll assume it's T568A as it is the one most commonly used. I'll also assume that you wired for a straight-thru configuration and to provide support up to 100Base-TX.
If this is the case, let's double-check the pin-outs:
    Pin 1: White/Green (Transmit+)
    Pin 2: Green (Transmit-)
    Pin 3: White/Orange (Receive+)
    Pin 4: Blue (Unused)
    Pin 5: White/Blue (Unused)
    Pin 6: Orange (Receive-)
    Pin 7: White/Brown (Unused)
    Pin 8: Brown (Unused)
For reference looking at the plug with the tab down, pin 1 is the rightmost location.

  • Troubleshooting Ethernet socket

My Airport card's been giving me fits, so I've tried to connect an ethernet cable to my router, but get no connectoin. The G4 keeps telling me there's no cable connected.
When I connect the same cable to another device (Xbox), it works fine. This leads me to believe that my Ethernet socket/board is messed up. When I opened the terminal, the ethernet stuff is kinda buried.
    1) Is there software or something that will help diagnose and test the ethernet socket/board?
    2) Do I dare try to open things up and try to replace the ethernet myself?

I'm working the ethernet issue because I've spent the better part of the last 3-4 months trying to get online with my Airport card. I'm the only Mac in a house full of PCs connecting via a Linksys wireless G router. The problem there is a rather "cyclical" signal level through the day. So, I'm trying to get online via ethernet until I can figure out the Airport card trouble.
Because of all the garbage I've gone through with that problem, I've cycled computers, cycled routers, cycled cable modems, created, modified & discarded various Network Preferences, cycled router security & channels & settings. You name it, I've torn through everything except the card and the ethernet socket itself.
There was a time last year when the ethernet worked. Now when I plug in, neither end gets a light. I've tried several different cords, setting configs...yada, yada, yada. The only thing I can think of is to somehow diagnose the hardware, but I don't know how to do that.
I love my Mac, but it should be easier than this.

  • Two ethernet adapters = troubleshooting

We are developning an application in LabVIEW 6.02 which controls a Logic Analyzer (HP1670D) via telnet and ftp. The medium between the HP and our PC(NT-4) is a TP- or a coaxial-cable.
In our PC we have two ethernet adapters, one that is talking with the LAN and one that is suppose to talk with the HP throw our LabView-application. However we are not able to use the secondary ethernet-adapter with LabView. It seams like that LabView is not able to handle two ethernet-adapters, some kind of conflict or delay is raised during the communication.
Other applications (i.e ftp-programs) handle the communication with the HP without any problems.
The LabView-application works great against the HP if we only use one ethern
    et-adapter.
Do you know how to solve or where to find any solutions to this issue ?
Best regards Joachim Osbeck and Tore Svensson
    Ericsson Mircowave Systems Sweden/Mölndal

I'm not sure if I can help, but I can tell you that I use 2 NICs with LabVIEW all of the time and have no problems. We configure the card on the LAN to get its IP from a DHCP server and we specify the IP of the second NIC. We generally use something like 192.168.xxx.xxx and make sure that the subnet (third set of numbers) is different from our LAN. The products that I test have and ethernet connection and I ping and telnet to them. Our configuration is Win NT 4 and LabVIEW 6 and LabVIEW 5.

  • How to troubleshoot Self-assigned IP for ethernet

i have tried restarting my modem, and releasing the renewing DHCP lease with no luck. My wireless works, but not my ethernet.

How does your system normally get its IP address? Via DHCP from a router of some sort or from your Internet provider? If so, then your Mac is no longer picking up an address and folks here will need more information, particularly about how you connect your system to the network, to be able to offer much in way of information.
