  • Experiment in active noise cancellation

I'm interested in building an active noise cancellation demo and wonder if anyone has used LabVIEW to do this. I suspect that delays in and out of the PC and in LabVIEW would make this difficult to do.

You are right about the delays. One of the real time systems could probably do it. Almost certainly the FPGA module could do the processing fast enough and it can be run independently from the desktop OS. I have not used any of the real time devices, so I am speaking theoretically, not from experience.
Since you are talking about a demo, perhaps you could set up a non-real time demo which shows the algorithms and processing, but works with recorded data.

  • Problem with active noise cancellation function : ...

My nokia 6720 have problem with active noise cancellation function. It seem not working because it also have noise when this function is active. So, I try to disable this function and found that the noise is reduce (but still not clear). How do I correct this problem?
    Thanks.
    P.S. Firmware version is 012.008

"I must must achive a segnificant attenuation of the noise in a closed volume using some NI devices ..."
At first glance I would say "probably can be done using an FPGA as a target" since the FPGA can close a very fast loop.
But to do that with a microphone input on a PC running Windows...
I suspect that would be an exercise in futility.
Anyone out there been able to turn around a microphone input fast enough to something like this?

  • What is a good headset for iPhone 5, good noise cancelation and good with Siri

Any tips on what would be a good headset to use with iPhone 5with good bag round noise cancelation and good compatibility with Siri.

I ended up getting a cheap $18.00 headset and plugging it into my iMic. I forgot I even had that thing. It works very well with skype. Just have to set the sound preferences to use the iMic for in and out.

  • Why not use iPhone in car as active noise canceller.

The iPhone uses noise cancellation during conversations. Why not make that available in the car through the car audio to quiet the interior at all times?

I have one of those stereos bought from Ebay, no badge, no name, and with multitude of functions, and a mic attached to my visor. Once it is paired with Iphone, all my music and calls go through the car stereo.
for applications that do not direct Audio through BT such as CoPilot (GPS navigation) I connect the Iphone through headset socket and into the stereo AUX input and works great (all sounds, voice, calls) go through it. One disadvantage of this method is that I can't listen to the radio. Well you cannot have it all. Or perhaps there is a Radio application where it plays in the background while I still use my GPS application.

  • Decent Headphones with Mic to Use With New Air Book:  hopefully reasonably noise canceling and reasonably priced?

My son just bought me a new Air Book in the States.  As I am out of the country, I can't try things like headphones out myself.  Need the headphones to give classes on Skype, probably from a fairly noisey location.  Wonder if someone who is familiar with the range of headphones can suggest what would be best for use with my Air.  (I dislike my current, large ear-pad clumsey ones and would prefer something much smaller and more compact.)
    Thanks for your help.

    1) Since I've bought it, people on the other end have a hard time hearing me. They say it sounds like I'm in a tunnel. I do not have a shell case on the phone, or my hand over the microphone. It's not dirty.
If your phone is still under warranty, I'd make an appointment at the Genius Bar.
    2) The ringer, even cranked up with an obnoxious ringtone, is way too quiet. If the phone is in my jacket pocket, or more then 15 feet away I will never hear it. In contrast, my husband's el-cheapo free cell phone rings and I can hear it through my whole home.
I find the audible rings to be very loud on the iPhone. If you're having problems hearing them, you may have a defective phone.

  • Portable headphones for ipod that are both wireless and noise-cancelling?

Does such an animal exist? Been googling all over the place but can't
find anything that is both...wireless and active noise cancelling.
The only thing that does come up in answer to such a google search appears to be headsets for cell phones.
I'd be very interested in any suggestions.

Any wireless headset for an iPod would require some sort of dongle as none of the iPod range have bluetooth (and, I don't believe that the iPhone supports the bluetooth stereo profile, though I could be wrong). I believe there are a few out there but I've never heard of ones that are also noise cancelling. You might check out the accessory section on iLounge. The review lots of off beat iPod accessories.

  • When I play music on iphone5s and charging - I get feedback/buzz from noise cancelling headphones

This only happens when charging and using noise cancelling headphones (sennheiser PXC350).
I get a buzz, but if I touch the metal on top or bottom of phone the buzz goes. Electrical interference, if I turn the noise cancelling off, no buzz.
Other headphones are fine that aren't noise cancelling.
Any ideas if this is a fault with the phone?

Likely due to build up (and discharge) of static electricity (referred to as ESD).  Ever scuff your feet on carpet and touch someone else? Similar concept here -- your iPad is getting charged up, probably due to movement against a nice generator like the nylon lining in your purse, and discharging through your headphones into your ears.  This effect is often a bit worse in very dry climates.  Perfectly harmless, but not comfortable.
To test this theory, walk around holding your iPad rather than putting it in your purse.  Any better?  If so, either carry your iPad or put it in something that is not going to generate static charge like the inside of your purse.  Plastics and nylon are good static generators, so keep it away from those.  Leather, silicone, rubber, etc. are pretty low generators, and pretty insulative to generators outside of them.

  • IPhone 5 voice call quality fade in and out. Noise Cancellation interference?

I've been having this huge problem with the iPhone5. The evidence i've collected seems to indicate this is a problem with all iPhone5's.
On calls in certain places both indoors and outdoors, the callers voices over the iPhone5 fade in and out. Their voices occasionally completely fade completely away, and only come back momentarily. The low volume for 50% of the time forces me to raise the volume, but raising the volume does not help because when the voice does come back, the volume is too loud for my ears.
I went back to the Apple store and they are not able to help me. They suggested a clean restore, which I did. They offered to replace the phone, which I did, but it is the same problem.
    - iPhone 5 vs. iPhone 4S, the fading does not occur. I make the call to the same voice mail system I have, and the sounds from the other side are consistently the same volume for the 4S, but fades in and out for the 5.
    - I connected up a 8mm jack between my iPhone 5 and my mac in an attempt to record this problem. In that instance, the sounds from the voice mail DO NOT fade in and out. I did find out that the dynamic range on the iPhone 5 is MUCH greater than that of the iPhone 4S, for some strange reason.
    - When I hold the phone up to my ear, the fading in and out does occur, but it is less noticeable. But it's still there.
    - When I leave my work area the problem goes away. However, because the iPhone 4S on the same AT&T service does not have this problem, this leads me to believe it's NOT a lack of transmission power from the AT&T cell tower. Rather, it is a reception issue at the iPhone5 side.
    - I turned off LTE, data and then made the calls. Same issue.
I use this phone to make 60 minute calls for conference calls frequently. I cannot use it. Please advise. I am seriously considering returning this phone. Except i've sold my old iPhone 4 already. I'm in a bad place. Please help.
Here's another post of a fellow with the same exact problem.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1456404
Apple, please look into this. I believe this is a problem with the noise cancellation software.

I've got an update on this problem with fading volume. I've isolated it to the set volume on the phone for voice calls when using headphones. When the headphone volume is set between 1 and 6 (out of 16 squares) the callers volume will consistently fade in and out. The fading which is normal to zero volume at 2-5 Hz is serious enough that normal conversation is impossible.  When the volume is raised above 6/16 then the callers voice stabilize and I can hear all their words again. Unfortunately, at 6/16 volume their voices are too loud for the headphones.
Furthermore, when headphones are plugged in, and I initial a call after the iphone5 was idle for several minutes, the first dial tone has preceded by a very loud pop an the tone, as though there was too much pressure (charge) that was dissipated all at once.
    Other details:
    - I used 3 different earphones, iPhone 4 headphones, altec earphones, an the new iPhone 5 earbuds. Same.
    - I turned on and off lte, data, Bluetooth, wifi. Problem persists unaffected.
    - when switching to iPhones earpiece and mic, the fading is gone.
    - I have 3 out of 5 bars where I teste this, in the city outside and on hwy 5 in central California. Same symptoms in all places I've tested.
    - I have exchanged my phone at the apple store. Same issue with both iPhones an I suspect all ipjone5s.
    - the ipjone4s does NOT have this problem when the volume is set lower. I can tell that the iPhone 5 must have a new audio filter to make the sounds have larger dynamic range. I liked the 4s better, because it is easier on the ears!

  • When I plug in my iPhone it makes the noise and charges, but wont bring it up in iTunes. It brings up my iPhone in a file under my computer

When i plug in my Iphone it makes the noise and charges, but wont bring it up in itunes. Instead it brings up my iphone in a file under my documents... Any help..??

Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album.  These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer.  If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar.  Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

  • HT3964 My Macbook air charges intermittently. At times when I connect the power adapter it shows that power is coming in but  says "not charging" and the led light on the power adapter does not light. At other times it charges normally. Any ideas?

    Hey guys,
I am having problems with charging my mac Air.  Sometimes it charges perfectly but then at times much as it shows that it's getting the power from the charger, it says "not charging" and the led light on the charger does not light up. Any help?
    Rgds,

That can happen when you are Taxing the system. No Apple supplied AC adapter supplies enough power to both power the system and charge the battery at the same time when the system is under Heavy Load, when you are Taxing the system heavily. At those times it will draw power from both the AC adapter and the battery at the same time. So if it is drawing power from both it can't charge the battery while it is drawing power from it.
