BI 7.0: Report Designer / WAD Front-End Problems

Hi, We are on SAP Netweaver, BI 7.0 SP05, Stack01.
I have installed New SAP Front-End GUI Components,I dont have any problems executing queries in Web or BEx using Business Explorer 3.X.
I'm getting following errors when i try to execute with new version of Business Explorer.
1) Report Designer: Query XML is empty (BICS), please check query and portal setup.
this query works fine in BEx with New version as well.
2)Web Application Designer: "E002: Error while executing service RRXWS_WEBPUB_CALL_SERVICE:V for object 1()".
I couldnt execute simple web template in browser, when i click execute in browser, it open my local windows SAP directory.
Is there any setting or configuration files i should change?
i searched in OSS notes for these kind of errors, but i couldnt not find any
please let me know as its urgent.

Hi,
we're running NW2004s, BI 7.0 SP06.
I'm now testing the new Frontend-Tools and started with the Query Designer. Installed Patch 2, Revision 227. I created an new query and saved it. So far so good. After executing i get this error message:
iView not found: pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/platform_add_ons/com.sap.ip.bi/iViews/com.sap.ip.bi.bex.
Exception id: 11:02_16/02/06_0017_46228450
See the details for the exception ID in the log file
Do I need the integrate an platform_add_on? Does someone get the same errors?

Assumming you are not installing a third party application or just the runtime packages there should be a setup.exe in root folder of the DVD/CD.
Install.pdf is on the CD also.

Unable to view FF reports in the front-end of FF 5.2 tool

After installing the FF tool on Netweaver, I am unable to see the reports from the back-end (R/3) system. The R/3 system has the FF 5.2 RTA installed and a user Id defined to connect to front-end of FF 5.2.
I configured the FF 5.2 connector, but still am unable to view reports from the front-end.
any suggestions would be helpful.

I was able to resolve the issue by maintaining the gateway in the SAP adapter and running the transaction /VIRSA/ZRTCNFG on the abap side

SPM Reporting - Log reports display on front end

Hi,
We have implemented GRC 5.3 and have an issue on the SPM reporting through the front end.
We have done config in dev and have the following jobs running in the background every 1 hour:
1. /VIRSA/ZVFATBAK
2. /VIRSA/ZVFAT_LOG_REPORT
3. /VIRSA/ZVFAT_V01
4. /VIRSA/ZVFAT_V03
The log on the back-end displays all activity of FF user, but when going to the front end I seem not to get any reports to display.
We have created the connectors via the config page, but when trying to drill through the selection criteria we found that the FF user does not come up as a selection variable. We see the system defined though.
Any suggestions how to get the reporting to display on the front-end?

Santosh,
You should only need the /virsa/zvfatbak job running in the background. However, if the emails are not triggered for the log reports, you may wish to schedule the /virsa/zvfat_log_report program to run after completion of /virsa/zvfatbak as that is the program which actually sends the notifications.
Regarding the RFC user, check the authorisations held in the Firefighter Administrator role as those will not be too far away!

i have a simple question .as all of us when make a small application that is accessible over the web has two parts(always).one is for all users of this site and other only for administators.
front end accessible over the web is jsp page(in my application).my question is ,is it more appropriate to design the front end for adminstrators using java components.like by using javax.swing package or it must be the jsp page in which beans are used or applet. i have a confusion in the usablity of these as i want to design interface for admin usind swing components.
which approach is better and why ?plz expalin ur answer also. waiting for reply inorder to design my application. thanX.

I would choose jsp/servlets with login protection for admins only. I would choose that, because I like to program, but like to do things fast. With applets or stand alone java applications, I would have to code the client server communication and still have to code some login protection. Also you are less likely to run into firewall problems when you just use port 80 and http like the users do.

Query Selection Screen in Report Designer/WAD

Hi Gurus,
Please help. Iam try to copy two BEx queries into one report using Report Designer & Web Application Designer. Iam sucessfull in it, however when I execute the report either by report designer or WAD, the report does not populate the selection screen, it just gives you the output of the two queires into one page. Is there a pre-settings we need to perform to get the selection screen for each of this report?

Hi,
Front-end upgrade will not help in this case. This feature "Display Variable Screen [VARIABLE_SCREEN]" was introduced in SP8 backend. You need SP8 backend to be able to use it.
You will find this setting in "Properties" -> "Web Template" (in combo box) -> "Web Template Parameters" -> "Behaviour" -> "Display Variable Screen"
This setting is defined in metadata and required an implementation on Java side (also SP8 required)

Java Front-end problems with Windows 200 Pro

Hi,
I have some problem on my pc with java applications front-end. I have windows 2000 Professional and use java(TM) 2 SDK, Standard Edition Version 1.3.1
Using every java applications (also development environment as JBuilder 4 Professional and Together 4) I have always problems with front-end: the text is bad visualized everytime I use the scroolbar, menu items into a menu are bad visualized while I drag over of them the mouse and so on...
To try to solve this my problem I have just installed Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000 Pro but I have not had good results - I keep to have the usual problem.
I'm aware that it is difficult to reproduce and however if anyone has some idea to solve my problem I am opened to every suggestion.

the text says that what technolody that they are using its called "Off Screen Images" once i used them in my applications to improve the prefomance.
What they says is to improve the time it takes to display componants that display text on them (Such as buttons, Labels...) they going to create an Off Screen Image of the text and then paste that image on to the screen whenever the componant has to be displayed/Re displayed instead of redrowing (Re rendering) the text on the screen repeatedly which take more time and processing power than rendering once and paste it to screen whenever needed but this solution will take some more memory.

I want help to design my front end view

I have decided frontend view of my software..
1) first login form will appear. once it is authenticated i want to close that window and open the main frame.
2) that main frame contains menu bar and menu items.
3) below that menu bar i still have space which consider as another panel.
4) now when i click on menu item from respective menu, then the another frame should appear in that same panel. I dont want to open that in another frame..
Can i suggest me how can i achieve this...

Knock yourself out--pay particular attention to GUI development. I would also suggest hitting the local college/community college book store and investing in a Java Textbook.

Issue witth the report designer installation

Hi all,
i am having a problem while installing the GUI of the BI 7.0 . after installation some time its showing the installation completed with errors and on 3.x functionalities r available i dont find any option to login to the bex report designer its front end is also not installed.
some time the problem is i am unable to run the query with variable when i run the query its gives the message that the variable is not consistent some thing like this. I dont know what to do.

Add &VARIABLES_CLEAR = FALSE to end of the URL
or Check in your WAD for the following commands and add this command at the bottom as shown below.

Urgent!!Error in the front end when trying to view a report

I am getting this error when I am trying to view a report in the front-end.

Ok, I was able to figure out the functions that were confusing me. For my own record and for those that do not know, I will list how to create the objects necessary to add a new report to a menu.
1-Write JSP (should be written just how Oracle writes theirs)
2-Creat function for the new JSP page as System Administrator responsibility
3-Use Sys Admin to add the function to a menu somewhere
4-Using AK Developer responsibility, create an attribute with the label of the attribute being the name of your function you created. Oracle's convention is the name of the attribute has FS in it.
5-Using AK Developer, lookup the ASF_FUNC_SEC_REG region
6-Drill down into that regions attributes
7-Add a your newly created attribute to this region

Thanks in advance.I am pretty sick of that word "technologies". It is really a generic catch all. Java is a "specific technology" so what is it you mean ? There isn't only one manner in which to create a front end. There are dozens if not hundreds of options, depending on how far you want to compartmentalize things. Deciding application or web application is already 2 options both using different things. Business layer can cover dozens of ideas.
Data access layer - is the data in a file in a database internal to the application itself ?
Are you talking about things like spring hibernate jdbc etc etc ?
(Basically there are a multitude of "technologies" that can be used for each of your questions. If you are looking for something to study that's one thing but if you are simply looking for a list look a jobs that list 30 requirements for a junior position, they tend to use the buzz word approach and many of those can be used in your questions.
