BI Acclerator Blade servers backups

Hi,
We have BIA running on HP blade servers and currently we have a procedue where they are taking
backup with some scripts and the scripts are generating some initiator files. ( which are some files on each blade server)
But can anybody provide me the info.  how these initiator files are useful in backup / restoration of BIA.
The documentation of SAP shows a different procedure for backup/ restore.
BR,
DVRK

Not really sure what do you mean by "initiators"... in anycase if you are talking about BI Accelerator Backup Blades is a HA solution for enterprise search, so you should stick to the TREX backup/restore procedures IMO.
Read,

In anycase I have no experience under this particular subjects so I let others lead the way... do please add as much info as possible to the thread so Its easier to follow.

  • New blade servers

i have new b22 blade server ineed to install esxi on it ,but the admin for ucs for another team .can i use console to configure the the two  server and islote the mangment and install esxi on the two blade .
i need help for this issue.

so you mean that you want to install ESXi on UCS B22 server but you are not the admin of the UCS. so you want to go attach keyboard and monitor to the blade directly to install ESXi on that server, is that the case?
Before you install the ESXi on the server, make sure the UCS admin has assigned a service profile to the server.
There are 2 ways for you to install ESXi on the server directly.
    1. use the cable blew and attach it to the server, the connector supports USB/VGA/DB9 Serial port
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/hw/blade-servers/B22.html#ID129
    2. alternatively, you can ask the UCS admin to create a user for you on UCS which only allows accessing the KVM, then you can remotely log on to the UCS and install ESXi. the previliage required for this role is "Service Profile Server Oper"

  • Is it possible to use UCS Blade Servers in ACE Load Balancing

    Hi all ,
Is it possible to use UCS Blade Servers in ACE Load Balancing ?? Please note that UCS Blade Servers are not connected directly to 6500 Switch where ACE Module installed .i am expecting a good suggestion from whether ACE or Switching Expert
    Thanks in advance
    Sanjeevi

There is nothing that would prevent you from loadbalancing the applications that run on UCS servers.  ACE can loadbalance applications that are directly L2 attached (bridged or routed mode) or even servers that are multiple hops L3 hops away using one-armed mode with source nat.  The key to this is that the return traffic from the server needs to make it back to the ACE.

  • Clustered blade servers

We're currently investigating a hardware refresh of our production landscape and we've come across a bit of a stumbling block. For the record, we're not particularly big, currently running ERP 2005 with a database instance and the central instance on dual quad-core x64 1.83GHz processors with 16GB RAM each and two application servers on four quad-core x64 pre-Core-architecture processors with 8GB RAM each. It's all hooked together on a gigabit Ethernet switch (two gigabit connections per server using teaming) and all storage is internal to each server except for the database instance which has an external SCSI RAID array.
We're now upsizing and are finding ourselves once again on the very limits of what the x86/x64 systems available to us can offer, except this time, we're not sure it's enough. We're investigating blade servers as a potential way to move forward but the documentation of how a "clustered blade" server works is sketchy at best. Itanium, for us, doesn't really hold the answer; sure you can fit 128 processors into the same server but we don't have £1m to spend!
    So, my questions are:
What actually is a clustered blade server?
How does it work? Do I assign physical blades to a logical server and they all work together as one much faster server, or is it just for failover purposes?
Is it still possible to use SAP's recommendations about keeping the operating system, SAP executables, the database, the database log file and the swap space (etc. etc.) on physically seperate drives if we move to Fibre Channel based storage, or is that no longer something to worry about, does it even matter any more?
Do SAP have any recommendations with regards clustered blade servers?
Has anyone ever had experience of using clustered blade servers to run ERP 2005? Anything I should know?
The impression I get of blade servers is that they are to servers what RAID is to hard disk drives, but I'd just like a bit of advice from anyone who can give it before I start spending money!

You can export a VM with snapshots and import those to a later version.
If your snapshots were taken while the VM was running, then the running VM state file needs to be deleted. (the .bin / .vsv) as the running memory state is never supported when upgrading.
Now, the other issue.  2012 R2 cannot import a VM from 2008 R2.  Only 2012 can import any of the 2008 releases, and the 2012 R2 release. (yes, there was a fundamental change made and 2012 was the cross-over release).
The way to handle this is:
    1) try copying the entire VM folder (without exporting) and import to 2012 R2 (test this please).
    2) Use 2012 to Import the export from 2008 R2, then upgrade to 2012 R2.

    Hi Expert,
Why the network link LED always off for all B200 blade servers? is it normal or heathy? refer to the installation document, it means no active network connection. However, all these servers are up and running with netwirk connection. anyone could explain this?

  • 10g RAC on Blade Servers (HP C-Class)

    All
Just wanted to know anyone's take on deployment of 10g RAC on blade servers -
Challenges, recommendations, etc. Anyone out there deployed a mission critical oltp application running RAC on blade servers?
    Appreciate a response
    Thanks - KP

Have several RAC blade clusters. Not using HP's blades though. The biggest one (12 nodes) is over 2 years old. The only h/w issue during that time as far as I can recall, was a power supply that blew. Vendor replaced and it was business as usual.
We are btw replacing all our HP boxes (old L classes mostly) with blade clusters. Given the stability and robustness of our big cluster, and that of the blades we're using for development, web servers and stand-alone database servers (running SE), we've decided to make this our standard h/w architecture. Of course, financially this receives a lot of noddy points from the bean counters. ;-)

  • Does BIA Blade servers suppot virtualization

    Hi,
I have a question, would like to know if the BIA Blade servers support virtulization? Is it possible to implement BIA on the Blade servers with VMware installed on it, there by enabling virtualization?. Does the BIA blade servers support virtualization?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Archana

    Hi Archana,
as Vitaliy already mentioned VMware is currently not supported. The reason therefore is relative easy. BWA is based on the TREX search engine and there is some interesting note which you should take a look (1303814 - TREX 7.1: Usage of TREX on Virtual Machines (VM))
The two reasons are why it also won´t be supported in near future:
    1) TREX can be used in virtual environments for low-data-volume scenarios. Please note that the published sizing rules may become invalid. SAP has measured TREX performance losses up to 30%, depending on the virtualization solution. If TREX performance issues in virtual server environments arise, make sure you have configured your virtual machine correctly. Reserving memory (and in some cases CPU) are recommended to rule out shortness of resources on the virtualization host in case of resource contention. A detailed resource planning is absolutely mandatory!
    2) TREX should be run on physical servers in high-load environments.
There is no note especially for BWA, but it´s not supported in cause of the low CPU load of the vmware HW. You won´t get support if you install your prod environment on VMware! If you take the chance you can setup your test environment on VMware, but normally you also won´t get support in case of an error. I think this depends on the philosophy of your company...

  • Lync on Blade Servers supported?

    Hi All,
is it supported to deploy Lync 2013 Frontend Servers on Blade Servers?
The reason for the question is: the Blade Servers use a Converged Network Adapter. As far as I know this is shared between multiple blade Servers. For Frontend Servers, TechNet recommends dedicated network interfaces with teaming.
The Blade servers also share a SAN and boot from there. Is this supported?
    Many Thanks in Advance,
    Hanno98

I would think that would be supported yes, if you think about it, it's really no different than a virtual environment which is also supported.  Virtual servers share network adapters and boot from SAN storage.  You're just dedicating resources
here.  Recommended isn't always a must.

  • Using Essbase on Blade Servers

    Hi,
What do you think about using Essbase (as part of EPM) on Blade Servers (eg. [HP BS|http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/blades/components/matrix/main.html])
I need for your experience and examples of performance of this stack.

It being a blade or not a blade is not as relevant as processor speed, I/O, and memory. One thing to consider about blades is depending on your configuration it can limit memory.
In short a blade will be perfectly fine presuming it can scale to the level you need for your given design and number of users.

  • Intergrating HP blade servers into a Cat 6000 back bone

Ok, im relatively new to this, so please bear with me.
We have a new hp blade server with 2 Cisco Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module's. Currently one switch serves 4 of the servers in the blade and one switch serves the other 4.
We would like both switches to load share and thus have redundancy if one was to fail.
Our current backbone is between 2 6000 Cats with 3 fibre connections, so a 3 gig ether channel between the two.
Everything is routed via this link and spanning tree stops any loops throughout the rest of the network, due to the 6000 route being by far the fastest and largest route. (3 gig and direct opposed to 1 gig and via at least 2 hops on all other connections/loops)
Now the concerns are, if we connect these blades, with there impressive backplane speeds (must admit I have yet to determine these backplane speeds but I no there quick)in the redundant load sharing way they are intended to work, will spanning tree opt to use the blade server as the back bone of the network...
Also another observations of mine is the blades use IOS and the cat's use KTOS... will there be any problems there?
Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will go away and find out the answers.
    Many thanks.
    Michael.

    Hi Michael,
Well, This is fairly simple to implement. I dont know why those guys need 4 days to impelemt. Are they going to manufacture a new switch in 4 days :-)....
I guess you can go ahead wit this implementaion on your own and connect the switches directly to the 6500 as you want. The only suggestion is to go for etherchannel between the chassis. Follow the steps:
    1. Check the root bridge on your n/w and also the priority set. If you ahev root bridge and secondry root bridge in your n/w with priorities 8192 and 16384, you are absolutely good to go.
    2. If priorities are default, I would suggest to set the STP priority on your HP blade to be a little high than default 32768 to overcome the STP root bridge issue. use command
    config t
    spanning-tree vlan priority < value >
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/12_1e/swconfig/spantree.htm
    3. Set up the etherchannel between the chassis, if using multiple link to connect.
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/12_1e/swconfig/channel.htm
You should be all set to go.

  • Stopped a remote Blade for Backup, After backing up....

After backing up a blade I went into the CM, edit Device, Admin, Virtualization, Actions, Start Blade.  It is up and running, I can ping it, but I cannot RDP to the server to verify that it is backup.  It seems like the server is shut down still.  What options do I have to restart this remote virtual server???

Where should the virtual disc be?  If I where to go in and point it to the virtual disc what directory would it be located in?  Here is my local1 dir.(see below)  In the vbs dir there is an iso, I tried pointing the boot to that, but got no luck.  I also attached my current show virtual blade1(see bottom)  any of this obviousely out of whack??

  • CUCM SERVERS BACKUP PROBLEMS

    Hi,
We can´t make backup of the CUCM servers. The CUCM System version is 8.6.2.22036-1.
    The Database replication is OK.
The Backup completed is the 66% and doesn´t continuous. We try stop the BU but it is not possible. Attached document I send an screenshot of the Backup status.
    Thanks for your help,
    Regards,
    David Lozano

    Hi Davd,
I'll just add this bug reference to the good tips from Java (+5 Java-Man!)
Duplicate bug CSCtq70875 is superceded by CSCtc49288 At present, CSCtc49288 is under review, hence the details are not shown
CSCtq70875 - Manual backup job cancellation does not terminate properly
    Description
    Symptom:
Manual Backup process  not getting cancelled for 20 hrs when we hit the cancel button. This is  encountered if SFTP server does not have enough space or there is some  connectivity issue.
    Conditions:
There are various conditions where this situation could be hit :-
    1) SFTP connectivity bad or intermittently lost.
    2) SFTP server does not have space or almost full.
When  a end user or Admin is initiating the manual backup job in this case,  the backup might not be completed because of one of above issues. If  user tries to hit cancel button, the component which is on-going right  now will have to be completed and then only backup will be cancelled.  This can make backup process hang for 20 hours.
In this case, another  backup can not be started. User also can not perform an upgrade until  the on-going backup process is cancelled.
    Workaround:
In CUCM, restart DRS Master, local service and can proceed with manual backup again.
IN CUCMBE3K, customer should tak ecare of following:-
    1) Take backups regulerly and ensure backup copies are saved in moe than 1 SFTP device.
    2) Ensure network connectivity with SFTP server is good.
    3)  Ensure SFTP server has enough space to take backups. If there is very  less space or no space, free some space or use another backup device.

  • C-Class Blade Servers

Looking for anyone who has installed ALUI (G6) on the new HP Bladesystem c-Class Servers (or any other blades). We are planning an implementation on an initial 12 server configuration fully racked, stacked, and SAN enabled (moving from nine HP DL-380 G3's). Any comments, recommendations, experiences, and/or problems would be greatly appreciated.

Disclaimer: I'm not a part of our hosting group. I'm "the portal guy" and while I get the gist of our hosting setup I don't maintain it, nor do I understand the inner workings of the systems (ex: I can't speak to setting up ILO). I'm more of a consumer.
We're on 6.0 (.NET) on Windows 2003, MSSQL 2000 SP4 multiple HP blades, SAN, etc.
We're apparently using p-class HP blades (I had to ask - I knew we had HP blades, but didn't know the specifics). Pretty nice boxes - from the portal side you won't functionally notice any difference IMO (beyond the fact that they are fast). Our stuff has been on SAN-based storage for years (prior to even the blades) - it's all good.
Your work won't be in the portal - it's more on the DR side (EX: really, really consider using something like vmware. Man, that's nice stuff) and then possibly thermal / power considerations your hosting people should help with.
Only thing I've noticed with them is they take a bit longer to start up, but that's not a biggie IMO. All in all it's been great (for me). Boxes sit cheerfully humming away. Just what I like. ;)
