BI admin tool : Oracle OLAP vs ODBC3.5 OCI 10g/11g ...

Hi everyone,
I'm facing a problem when I try to create a repository using Oracle BI admin Tool.
In the second step of Create new repository , I have to choose between a lot of connexion types : ODBC3.5 , Oracle OLAP, OCI 10g/11g .... I don't know which of them I need to choose in my case.
In my case, I have a cube that I created using AWM, and I need to make a report that is based on that cube.
I don't really know how to proceed ...
I have Oracle BI is in a Unix server , and I installed Oracle BI admin tool client in my Windows 7.
Any idea which connexion type I should use, do I need to make an ODBC connexion for all of them ?
My comprehension of this is unclear ... any help ?
Thx all !!

Starting with OBIEE 11.1.1.5, as it understands Oracle-OLAP metadata in Oracle data dictionary, so to query data from OLAP Analytical workspaces you will always use "Oracle OLAP" as the source in BI-Admin-Tool.
When you will create report in OBIEE, it will then generate the query using the OLAP_TABLE sql function.
Note that automatically generated CUBE_TABLE views in OLAP (the ones suffixed with _VIEW) are not used at all (or even needed) when working with OBIEE 11.1.1.5+.

  • Open and connect in OBI 11.1.1.5 admin tool fowwoling OBE Upgrade

I installed OBI11.1.1.5 on Redhat 5.2 and the admin tool on a windows. In this two machine I have OBI 10 server and admin tool installed as well. The OBI 11 components are all up running as I can access them such as EM and represention service.
Following OBEhttp://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/bi/bi11115/upgrade/upgrade_to_11g.htm?print=preview#t3 .I upgraded our 10g rpd and catalog and see the repository saved in instance_home, and verified that the default is RPD sh20110903_BI002.
Next step in the OBE, I verify Reposiotory Metadata. I launched the admin tool, opened inline. In the generated dialog box, I entered the password in defined in the update script as Repository Password, and used weblogic login in User/Password. All other fields are blank. That is all I can do in the dialog box, but the Open buttone is always grey. I think at least one available repository should be listed in the list box at the bottom, but it was empty.
Then I tried to create a new repository. In step 2 Select Data Source, I choose ODBC 3.5 and use a valid system DSN, but got Error : The connection has failed.
I tried also use Connection Type OCI 10g/11g. IN the Data Source Name I used a valid netservice name defined in a Oracle client's Oracle_HOME. But still got Error : The connection has failed.
    Questions
    1) How can make the Open button active in the Open inline RPD dialog box?
    2) Why the valid System DSN failed to connect in 11g admin tool. It is OK in 10g admin tool and ODBC configure
    3) How to make Admin Too; sees the tnsnames definition. Should I copy the tnsnames.ora file to somewhere under Admin Tool installation directory?
    Many thanks.

Thanks. The post appares make sense. I opened my user.sh file and has 2 questions:
    1) There are 32bit section and 64 bit section, and it states that 32 bit server must work with 32 bit client, so is for 64 bit. In my case, the clients are most likely 32 bit windows (browsers and admin tool), but the server is installed on Redhat 64 bit. Is this a problem? How do I know if my OBIEE iis running 64 or 32 bit?
    2) All entries in the user.sh file are commented out. Then what file is used to in the current OBI11, it is started automatically after the installation.

  • Undefined symbol: nzdacvalue on Admin Tool

I had a real sweet setup: 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Server 5.1 running Oracle 11g 11.1.0.6.0 - 64 bit.
OBIEE server on the same machine, 10.1.3.4.0 (both the analytic server and the presentation server)
I was doing development on a local Windows machine using the BI Admin tool. Everything was going along swimmingly.
Until I patched the Oracle 11g instance from 11.1.0.6 to 11.1.0.7.
Now in the OBIEE Admin tool, if I try to connect to tables in the patched 11g instance using the same connection pool (either OCI 10g/11g, or ODBC 3.5)
to say, update the row count (using the Admin tool in online mode) I get an error:
[NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred.
[nQSError: 43093] An error occurred while processing the EXECUTE PHYSICAL statement.
    $ORACLE_HOME/lib32/libnnz11.so: undefined symbol: nzdacvalue
[nQSError: 46029] Failed to load the DLL $OBIEE_HOME/server/binlibnqsdbgatewayoci10g.so Check if 'Oracle OCI 10G' database client is installed.
This looks like a 64-bit / 32-bit library conflict. Anyone else seen this?
I can connect to the 11g data source, even import tables from it. I can't update the row counts. I get the above error.
I've stopped and restarted all the servers numerous times.

not sure whether installing WINE will help, try with 11.1.0.6.0 version of instant client libraries.

  • Can not open RPD online via OBIEE Admin Tool

    Hi all,
I am facing problems trying to open a RPD online via Admin Tool.
I made an upgrade from 10g to 11g on a Windows XP machine.
    The errors are:
Logon failed due to: [nQSError:43113] Message returned from OBIS
[nQSError:43004] Session: 250f0000 repository name: my_new_repository.rpd is invalid
[53003] LDAP bind failure: Can't contact LDAP Server
[37001] Could not connect to the Oracle BI Server instance
    Here the checks I did:
    1) The database is running.
    2) I pointed the existing ODBC connection to the new .rpd file.
    3) All BI Services are running
    4) The new rpd file is on the Oracle BI Server directory like the old rpd file
What am I doing wrong here?. Where else can I check if there is something wrong?
I hope somebody can help me. Mostly my questions have no answer. It's really dissapointing!

    Hi Hussein,
thank for your answer. I see you get used to send me only Metalink Support Links. Unfortunately no one adjusts to my problem.
Unfortunately no one else writes me an answer in this forum. So maybe I am spending my time in this forum.
I don't have any chance except continuing by searching for in google :-(

  • Unable to import metadata using OBI 11g Admin tool

    Hello folks,
I am new to OBI. I am trying to build a RPD. For that purpose I am trying to import some tables from database but I am unable to. I created DSN and also tried using OCI but no help. The OBI Admin tool client and database is installed under other user's account. Is that the reason I am unable to import tables?
    I am getting this error:
Internal Error-Unable to initialize NLS during driver load - When I try to use ODBC &
Connection failed --When I try to use OCI.
Can someone shed some light on this issue.
    Thanks,

Use Call Interface: Default (OCI 10g/11g)
Data source Name->hostname:port/ServiceName or TNS name
    like
    localhost:1521/XE
make sure you able to ping connect the database using tnsentry or
    tnsping <tnsname>
    from command prompt.
Let me know for issues if helps pls mark

  • Oracle BI Admin Tool: copying permissions from group to group

    Hi!
I'm working with Oracle BI Admin Tool (10.1.3.4).
I have a lot of groups in the repository.
I want to create a seperate group for each department and set filter for each group. For example, group 'Market' should see data only from the Marketing department, group 'HR' should see data only from its department.
The question is the following: if I have 100 groups, do I have to set permissions to each of them manually or is there any mechanism of quick copying (function 'duplicate' is not suitable as groups are already created)?
    Thank you,
    Natallia

First about filtering data for specific user groups: you need to implement row level security by using session variables.
    Here are some links:
    http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/oracle-bi-ee-1013332-row-level-security-and-row-wise-intialized-session-variables/
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2007/05/13/obiee-and-row-level-security/
    http://obieegeek.wordpress.com/2009/04/05/row-level-security-using-initialization-blocks-and-session-variables/
(You can find these links by using google.. ;))
Second about groups and copying privileges/permissions: I don't think it is possible to copy privileges/permissions (other than hardcoding UDML) but it is actually not necessary when you create a security model first. Let me explain: in OBIEE groups can be member of a group, and the underlying group will inherit all the permissions of the group it is member of.
So what you need to do, is to create one group with common permissions and privileges and add all the department groups to this group. If you want, you can then set the specific permissions for each group.

  • Version Admin Tool for Oracle BI 11.1.1

I have question about Oracle Admin Tool. I patch system version to Oracle BI 11.1.1.6.10 .
Which version Oracle Admin Tool will be proper for this version OBIEE server.
    KG

    Hi,
we've tried to synchronize application rooles from Administration Tool, but without any positive results. List of application rooles in EM/bifoundation_domain is different from a list in Administration Tool/Identity Manager/Application Roles. There aren't any errors in bifoundation_domain logs, but in weblogic domain logs we have many erros with the same description:
"Failed to get WLS users.". What could be the reason?
    Pzdr.
    GO
PS User filter settings affects only 'Users' card: if I set user fileter to "*", I see all users from LDAP provider, but this setting doesn't affect to Application Roles card...

  • Oracle Admin Tool Client

    Hi ,
I'm facing a lot of problems with Oracle BI admin client Tool that I installed in my Windows 7 to use my cubes ( my Oracle BI server is in a Unix machine ).
The error that I face is *[nQSError : 6001] Connection failed for Remoote Service-JavaHost-AWImportService11G with message [nQSError : 77029] Java Host is not available inside the function AWImportService11G of SAW RPC modules ...*
I'm sure my NSQConfig file is okey, with the server address and port 9810 in Javahost config. And I made sure Javahost sevice is running .
I heard that Oracle BI admin tool Client is a light version of the whole Oracle BI, so there are some missing components ... I thought about unstalling the whole Oracle BI in my windows 7 machine to use my cubes that are in the unix machine.
Do you think it's a good idea ? is there anyone facing the same problem ?
    Thax all !

Oh, I mean uninsall Oracle BI Admin Tool Client , and install the whole Oracle Business Intelligence in my Windows 7 32 bits.
Well, the whole story is that :
-I have a Oracle BI system in a remoot unix server.
-I used AWM in my Win7 32 , to create cubes : Now, I need to administrate my cubes to make reports.
-So, I installed Oracle BI Admin tool Client in my Win7 machine : But when I try to create a New repository to get my cubes , I get the nQSError 60001 and 77029 Errors, even If I made the right changes.
-Now, As I'm stuck, I'm thinking about an alternative... I don't know if installing the whole Oracle BI in my Win7 machine is a good alternative ... And if I do so, what type of Installation I need to follow ...
    Thanks for your reply

    Any clue ??

    Check this Doc ID 1330191.1
    As per this Solution is:
To resolve access the Oracle OLAP cube from Admin tool when the JavaHost component was started up.
This has already been added to the documentation:

Setting Up Oracle OLAP Data Sources
Before you import from an Oracle OLAP data source, ensure that the datasource is a standard form Analytic Workspace.
In addition, the JavaHost process must be running to import from Oracle OLAP data sources, for both offline and online imports.

    Hi,
Let me know which version you are using (OBIEE) ?
you are trying to install Client (Admin Tool) and OBIEE server in same machine ?
    Thx,

  • Admin tool crash

    Hello everyone :)
I'm wanted test OBI on VM but after installation (before, on this VM I installed Oracle database and use RCU to create repository) I have a problem. I wanted connect to sample database (my warehouse when I have some values), but when I start Admin (Start->Oracle Business Intelligence->BI Administration) it's crash.
Has anyone idea how can I fix it? Or is there maybe other way to connect to database and create data model?
    I get this message: http://i56.tinypic.com/5eu8lf.png

I use 64 bits win 2008 R2 and 64-bits OBIee (my oracle database - repository created by rcu- is also 64-bits, but I think it's not important because I have a problem with obi)
    Thanks for any help.
Ps. I have also noticed that almost any tools from Oracle Businnes Intelligence not work :(
When I want run ODBC Client I get RDO Error
Job Menager generates error: noenqulitygeneric in java.library.path

    Hi
According the documentation Admin Bi Tools supported in 64bits.
I just reinstalled it again and the issue was fixed
Here the link where you can download it:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/downloads/bus-intelligence-11g-165436.html
choose the Oracle Business Intelligence Developer Client Tools Installer (11.1.1.3.0)
    and go ahaed!!!!
