BI Best Practises - HR Performance Management

Hi all
I'm looking through the BW Best Practises and don't see any for Performance Management
(0HCM_TM_ANALYTICS_EHP3).
Please can anybody guide me on which BP's to use in order to get the Appraisals & Qualifications Content (Cubes,update rules,infoobjects,etc)

In my out line i have 15 dimensions and for one dimension i have 39000 members so wat is the best practise for performance , If we have more dimensions and more meebers is there any problem for performance

If it is ASO application it is not a problem.
If it is a BSO application surely it will hit the performance.
More dimensions will create performance issues.
If the said 39000 members dimension is a Flat dimension. It will be another issue.
If BSO is obvious try to split into two models.
Create intermediate groupings for the Filat dimension.

What are the best practices for Database management and performance tuning?

I want to ensure that I am using the best practices for managing and maintaining our Database.
Is there any documentation out there that outlines how to maintain and ensure top performance out of our database?

I appreciate the responses, however this is not the information I am looking for.
I am specificaly looking for best practices invloving the managment and performance tuning.
Example: are their tools that I can install that will monitor the size and response time of the database and alert me if there is degradation in performance?
Are there specific periodic activities I should be doing to garuntee that my database will continue to function that way it is supposed to?
Or is this a fire and forget solution that does not need this attention?

Best practise in SAP BW master data management and transport

Best Practise for rebooting ISE Nodes?

Hello Community,
I administer an ISE installation with two nodes (I am not an ISE Specialist, my job is just to manage the user/mac-adresses... but now I have to move my ISE Nodes from one VMWare Cluster to another VMWare Cluster.
(Both VMWare environments are connected to our enterprise network, but are different environments. vMotion not possible)
I would shutdown ISE02, move it to our new VMWare environment and start it again.
Than I would do this with our ISE01 Node...
Are there any best practises for doing this? (Shutdown application first, stopl replikation etc)?
Can I really simply reboot an ISE Node - or have I consider something bevor I doing this? After I doing this?
Any tasks after reboot?

There is a lot to consider here. If changing environments means changing IP Address and IP Scopes, then your policies, profiles, and dACLs would also have to change among other things. If this is the case, create a new ISE VM in the new environment using the built in evaluation license and recreate the deployment from the old environment using the addressing scheme of the new environment. Then spin-up a new Secondary node and register it on the Primary. Once this is done, you can re-host the license from your old environment onto your new environment. You can use this tool to re-host:

If IP Addressing is to remain the same, it gets simpler.
First, and always, perform a configuration and operational backup.
If downtime is not an issue, or if you have a maintenance window of an hour or so: Simply shut down both nodes. Transfer them to the New Environment and turn them on, Primary Node first, of course.
If downtime is an issue, shut down the Secondary Node and transfer it to the New Environment. Start the Secondary Node and when it is up, shut down the Primary Node. Once services on the primary node have stopped, promote the Secondary Node to Primary Node.
Transfer the OLD Primary Node to the New Environment and turn it on. It should assume the role of Secondary Node. If it does not, assign that role through the GUI.
Remember, the correct way to shut down an ISE node is:
application stop ise
halt
By using these commands, the risk of database corruption decreases by about 90% (Remember to always backup).

As far as the Oracle database is concerned, best practices on Windows server 2008 are exactly the same as for any other OS.

(and my own prejudice, developed over 30+ years in this industry and working with Oracle on Windows beginning with Oracle 7.3 on windows 3.11, is that best practice is to stay as far away from Windows as possible)

Backup everything. Get the backups off site. Perform regular DR drills. Document everything. Keep a copy of the documentation off site. (Doesn't do any good to have the DR manual located such that it gets destroyed in the same disaster that takes out your data center. ) Have an off-site DR site.
While it isn't in your lane as a DBA, you need to keep reminding managment that DR is about more than just the database, and even more than just the data center itself. If there is a physical disaster (ask the people in Oklahoma City about that ... over the years - multiple F5 tornadoes, plus a truck bomb) all kinds of infrastructure and documentation issues. What about important records (like the DR manual) that exist only in someone's desk drawer? Where are the business units going to set up shop and how are they going to connect to the restored database at the DR site?
I've seen DR manuals that got down to the detail of temporary housing for employees and how to get coffee at the DR site.

Performance Management Installation problem

Hi all
I'm in a big trouble with Performance Management XI installation on a BO XI R2 environment.
When I reach the CMS logon information, the CMS box is left blank by default, so I fill it and I got the following error:
"Logon Information for the CMS is invalid"
But when using java launchpad I can enter CMS with the same information (username, password, and authentication).
Anyone knows a file or something else where setup file looks for CMS configuration info?

Experiences on SAP Best Practise packages?

We are considering applying a specific SAP Best Practise package on top of ECC6. It will be a new ECC6 installation.
I have read the BP faq pages http://help.sap.com/bp_bw370/html/faq.htm and read note 1225909 - How to apply SAP Best Practices - and the specific note and the specific installation guide for required Best Practise package.
I understand that applying a BP package is something not that easy but should speed up the implementation process.
If you have been participating in a project that implemented SAP Best Practises on ERP, would you please share your experiences with me.
Here are some topics for discussion:

BP implementation could make constraints to your future EHP or SP upgrades, while BP is tightly linked to certain EHP and SP-level?

Hi,
Make sure your web service URL correct in Live Office connection and also in Xcelsius data manager.
Did you check all connection in refresh button proprties? you may try selecting "Refresh after component are Loaded" in Refresh button properties Behavior tab.
I think Xcelsius refresh are serial refresh so it may be possible that first component refresh is still in progress but you are expecting other component to refresh.
Click on "Enable Load Cursor" in data manager's Usage tab, it will give you visibility of refresh. If anything refreshing you will see hour glass.

We are on ERP 2005 and implementing Performance Management at the company.
We have some questions in relation to the requirements:
- Is there any documentation on the use of columns like OBJH, OBJB, QBJ7, QBJ8 etc. How to identify which column best suits our need?
- Depending on the situation, one EE may have 5 areas (criteria groups in SAP) to work on this year whereas the other EE may have 3. Does SAP allow the ability to add one row at a time for each criteria group?
- There is a requirment that once the manager completes the EE appraisal in MSS, it should be available to the Manager's Manager and HR Dept for final
approval. How should we approch this requirement?
- Does SAP allow the ability to display the appraisal form in various tabs like one tab each for "Competency", one for "Goals", etc. OR does it all have to be on one long form?
- There is a need wherein an employee can choose from various development plan for the current year. The development plans (about 25 in number) are like "Conflict Management", "Decision Quality" etc. One EE can have 4 developement plans whereas the other may have 8 plans for the same year. We thought of adding the development plans as qualifications in Qual. catalog and then link it in Appraisal template.
Is this the best way to approch the requirement? If so, how do we link the qualifications to appraisal template? If not, what other options can be explored?

Performance Management (Appraisal Documents) ABAP webdynpro error on HTTPS

Hello all,
Please help , in resolving the issue with Performance Management Application "Appraisal Documents" getting Blanks Screen on the routing back from "Appraisal Document" after user close the application. Issue is only applicable in 'HTTPs' and work fine in internal network.
On HTTP Watch : "ERROR_HTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE" in the trace.
Steps to replicate :
1. User click on the "Appraisal Documents" link on the Area page and open the application on the new window.
2. User select one of the "Appraisal document" from the list available to work on it , which result in another window.
3. User close the application after finishing the work on the "Appraisal Document" and return on the Parent window "Appraisal Documents".
4. At this point "Appraisal Documents " window get refresh and every things looks great.
5. Now if user want to select another appraisal document to work on it in "Appraisal documents" window, it freeze or give blank screen.

Flexible Appraisal Porcess- As the name suggest you have the flexibilty to design your apparisal templates using the functionalities provided by SAP.
For eample: Using transaction PHAP_Catalog_PA or OOAM, you can design your apparsail template.
Predefined Appraisal Template: Again as the name suggest, SAP has pre-designed the strucure for defining the appraisal template. After clicking on the tab for Predefined appraisal process in IMG node, you will follow the number of screens in sequece.

Predefined Performance Management- Delegation if Manager is on leave

Hi,
In Predefined Performance Management, is there a way for manager's to delegate the appraisal to another person, during his/her short term absence?
By changing the appraiser details in the document header, and setting up 012 relationship (for a specific period), it might work. But it might not be the best way. If any of you have come across this situation, please suggest.
We are on ECC 6.0 EHP6, SAP Portal for ESS & MSS are used. (We are not using HR Renewal)

For appraisal document, it wont check 012 relation ship.
It's totally based on Document creation in PHAP_PREPARE what ever you give as Appraiser, Appraiser details.
Automatically that document will re-direct to these persons.
You can check the same.
Create a document and mention the Appraiser who's not having 012 relation ship.
And check the manager appraisal service.

How to Default Appraisal Template in MSS Performance Management

Dear Friends
How can we default a certain Appraisal Template in MSS Performance Management Status Overview. We currently have
Appriasal Templatate I ( Used in 2008)
Appriasal Templatate II ( Used in 2009)
Appriasal Templatate III ( Used in 2010)
In the drodpwn in MSS, it is showing us in the Ascending Order. Default one is always the first one (Appraisla Template I). Since it is year 2010, we want to default it to Appriasal Template III OR is there a way to sort them?

Good Day.
In standard, there is no any possibility to default an specif value for the template there. The values for the template are sorted in alphabetical order by default and the first value with be displayed there.
