BI/BO necessary for Global Spend Analysis? PI necessary for syndication?

Hi! I have been reading about MDM and examples of how MDM can be used by companies. One is on its ability to provide accurate and consolidated data for spend analysis. I would like to find out whether the spend analysis solution is only applicable for BI/BO. What if the company does not have BI/BO? What examples of other reporting tools are available for spend analysis reporting?
Also, PI is mentioned to be needed for data extraction from remote system to be loaded into MDM. Similarly, it is needed for the syndication back to the remote system. May I find out whether PI can be replaced by another middleware such as BizTalk?
Appreciate any clarification on the above.

I am not sure about BIZTalk's capability to integrate with system's you have in current lanscape. If it is there then you can utilise Biztalk also.

SRM Global Spend Analysis Report

Hi Team,
Does anyone have any prior experience creating SRM Global Spend Analysis Report in BI 7.0.
I couldnt find the data source in SRM for Global Spend report, but I have the Infoobjects and cube from BI Content. Can anyone provide a step by step instruction on how to create this report in BI. Do I need to create Custom Datasources?
I am using SRM 5.0 and BI 7.0 with support pack 10.

I don't think you need to create custom datasource, as all the information is available in the system.
I have not tried this ever. Here are few details, which might help.
Global Spend Analysis
Accurate spend information helps you to optimize your supply base and, by indicating potential for demand aggregation across business units, enables you to control your procurement cost and negotiate better contracts with your suppliers. Global Spend Analysis now uses mapping information provided by SAP Content Integrator. The category mapping functions of SAP Content Integrator allow you to map products and categories to a standard category hierarchy (or schema). This could be an internal customer-defined schema or an external one, such as eCl@ss or UN/SPSC. Grouped key mapping for partner data delivers information on identical suppliers, which appear under separate IDs in the procurement systems. Both kinds of key mapping information are made available to SAP BW. The consolidated InfoObject technology in SAP BW then enables unified reporting across diverse master data entities in a heterogeneous system landscape, based on the mapping information delivered by the SAP Content Integrator. For mySAP SRM 3.0, the data extraction tools of MDM, which feed the master data into SAP Content Integrator, only support SAP R/3 systems. Therefore, the global spend scenario in combination with SAP Content Integrator only provides an out-of-the-box solution for mySAP SRMs classic scenario.

Spend Analysis for Commodity Code in ECC6

Hi,
I wonder if there is any way for spend analysis references to commodity code in SAP R3 as we are not using SAP SRM?
If there is any option in ECC6 then;
a) Which field/view maintained for Commodity code at Material Master?
b) Which field maintained for Commodity code at /PO/Contract/RFQ/Purchase Requisition (Header level or item level)?
c) How spend analysis can be reported based on commodity code? (Standard report, Z custom report, BI report)

Hi,
These are the reports available in ECC for Commodity wise reporting. Regarding once maintained in material master, how far these serve your purpose you can test.
MC.3 This report will help you in getting the information on the inventory turn over ratio by Commodity.
MC45 This report identifies the share of the usage value to the total usage. You can also see the report graphically for a selected material in detail screen.
MCE5 This program will give you information on purchase value, invoice value during a selected period. However for these reports it is necessary to update the relevant LIS structure.
MCEC This report can be used for Purchase budget requirement. However for this report to work, long term planning functionality should be put in use.

Delta update for spend analysis fails

Hi,
I am using Spend Analysis in BI 7.0. The delta upload for this gives 0 records.
I have checked RSA7. The data source shows 0 records even though new records are available in the line item table. Delta field is TIMESTAMP.
The data source is delta enabled but still RSA3 does not allow Delta extraction test.
Can anybody tell me how delta is loaded for spend analysis data and why RSA7 is not showing any records.
This is a very urgent issue. Points will be rewarded for helpful answers.

are you able to solve the problem? I got a similar problem like yours, not really familiar with delta updates with generic extractor.
If solved already can you share the solution? I am stuck after init delta, a little research indicate there's some V1/V2/V3 updates that i need to set in R/3 and also delta queue..

Here are my two cents on this questions
1. Catagory Management : It pertains to all sourcing activities that a purchasing group does for a specific catagory of items ( say tyres, bearings, etc. in automobile industry scenario OR steel sheets, electric motor, etc. in consumer durables industry scenario) in order to meet companies strategic goals like cost, quality, delivery and new product introduction. It also involves the strategic sourcing piece for that category. Typically it can include following activities for a category which is being managed
- Identifying current and future business & technical requirements
- Constant vigilence and analysis of supply market for that category ( and also identifying new sources)
- Lauching various projects within category focussed on cost reduction, quality improvement, delivery improvement. This may include some of activities like supplier analysis. RFx, Reverse auctions, contract negotiation, etc.
- Monitoring the category specific supplier performance
Category Management team typically consists of cross functional team and it is iterative process (continuous improvement).
Category Management in covered to some extent in E-Sourcing application and its analysis is covered in Spend Analytics application. Fully blown category management is on road map of SAP but none of the current functionalities addresses it fully.
2. Spend Analysis: This involves analysis of the spend at highest level of organization. To improve the data quality, it typically involves spend data standardization & enrichment, supplier normalization and spend categorization. Once you have clean data, one can slice and dice the data to gain insight into the spend and identify opportunities for launching the various initiatives focussed on cost, quality and delivery.
SAP Spend Analytics application covers this spend analysis capability.

Spend Analytics is the former name of the product SAP Spend Performance Management (SPM).
The current release of SPM is 2.1 (2.0 is now in maintenance mode). The next release will be accepting rampup nominations sometime around middle of 2011.

If you want to see the out of box dashboards and reports for Procurement and Spend, then you can look at Product Guide, it lists all the dashboards and sample reports. However product guide is not available via Metalink3 or oracle site, you can try requesting it via your account representative for Oracle.

Hi Syed,
I agree with Waman comments and would like to add few more points to it.
As you may already know, IT systems are divided into OLTP and OLAP. SAP ERP falls into OLTP which is live. and BI falls into OLAP which is historical.
Though you are not using COPA for forecasting and planning purposed I don't think you can completely eliminate it.
More over as as Waman said, You can't use COPA only for reporting purposed without posting to it first.

Hi,
When you post an R/3 material document, the processing terminates with a system message indicating that no RFC destination has been maintained for Global Trade Services GTS.
This system message is unjustified since SAP GTS has not actually been activated.
This is caused by a program error.
Please read the notes-825448, and do the necessary corrections.

Global Attributes to be considered for Material Master

Hello Experts,
I am working on Material Consolidation in MDM where in I have to consolidate the Material master from three different SAP systems in SAP MDM then harmonize the data back to each of these ECC systems. Centralization using portal will follow once this is done.
All the mentioned ECC systems are three entirely different business working independently
To define the enterprise data model there are two questions for which I am looking for answers based on Best practises standpoint and with your experiences in MDM projects
Question 1: Is it a good practice to maintain Plant, Sales org, Purchase org and Classification data and other Local data in SAP MDM Material repository for all the three ECCsystems. I understand this would unnecessarily load the repositoryu. But still looking for your experiences to explore whether there is any business benefit to do this.
Question 2: Let's assume that we maintain only the Global attributes in SAP MDM for material repository then in that case , how do we define the material at global level. From my standpoint Material Global repository should have following fields which would uniquely define the material
(Material Description, Base unit of Measure, Material Type, Industry Sector, Alternative Unit of Measure, Material Group)
Is it the right approach or should I consider some other attributes as well?
Moreover If I define these as Global Attributes then these definitions will have to imposed on the all the three ECC systems which would be a major change as all of the three have different definitions for the abovementioned attributes.
Request your valuable inputs on what should feasible and practical best approach.

This is something which comes to every consultants mind
See this is something very abstract and answer can vary from case to case depending on many parameters like :
1.Client/Businessrequirement.
2.Scenario requirement.(CMDM,Consolidation etc)
3.System Landscape.
4.Performance.
5.Product capability.
And many more.
In my experience I have had a material scenario with only one ERP system having and only one company code.Clients requirement was to have most of the plant related data into MDM as it was a CMDM scenario.So I did take most of the views into MDM system including Location Data,Valuation data,Quality data,Classification data and Sales Data.It worked well there.
However I was a part of another project where we had multiple ERP systems in landscape.It had multiple company codes and client wanted to keep only global data in MDM,after going into ERP system plant relevant data was populated.
So it totally depends and one only has to take a informed decision,I would suggest you prepare a attribute analysis matrix of fields global in nature and then after understanding the relation between fields take a call on data model.

           We have done with the SPM Installations & Configuration with the client BI system. The following Queries buit on the Multiprovider 0ASA_MP01 is not running in BEx(Opens with error) and RSRT.

Yes, it is critical to get all the Spend related queries in an excutable state before you are able to launch the application.
This seems to be some issue on the BW side, pls have your BW Basis administrator check it out. Maybe your BW server is not properly patched.
I did a quick search on the term "CREATE_PARTITION-01" AND "CL_RSR_RRK0_ATTR_C " in Svc Market Place and foudn these three BW notes: 1489975, 1340340, 1412925. Pls see if they apply. Also feel free to do additional note searches for yourself.
Once the BW issues are resolved the SPM queries shoudl work.
Do write back and confirm what helped fix the problem.
