BI - Cognos integration

Hi
Can anyone shed some light on how to link BW and Cognos reports?
For example, if a user is running a Cognos report and wants to drilldown to a BW report, how can this be done (eg - say they are looking at a sales report in Cognos and want to drill down to the daily sales analysis BW report)? We have an EP and are on the BI 7.0 version.

Hi,
There are lots of limitations integration of cognos to BI ,that includes latest version of cognos 8.2 portal,Difficulties regarding dashboards on to cognos for things like hierrachies etc..
Cognos is still DRAG and DROP ,Built your Bex query in BW ---> In Cognos , take ur KPI and Chars to use it in Cognos- rationale ,use BW authorizations.
Cognos can directly hit to BW infocubes and built their own query(no need of Bex query) however, the whole AUTHORIZATION concept has to be built now as a NEW (cannot use BW authorization concept-auth variables ....)

We are trying to integrate COGNOS with SAP EP 7.0. I have gone through "Understand How to Integrate and Manage 3rd Party Technologies into SAP Enterprise Portal " and understood that there is some .par file which give us some iviews which we can use.
I need some help understanding enabling SSO with cognos and where to get this .par file.

Business Objects and Cognos 8 Controller integration

Hello,
I have a requirement where we need to report Cognos Controller data in Business Objects more specifically our client would like
to explore Cognos Controller data using Business Objects Explorer. I don't have any idea how data is stored in Cognos etc.,
We need to integrate Business Objects and Cognos in some way. Do we have any integration kit for this?
I would appreciate if anyone would share some ideas experiences on this.

Performance problem with Integration with COGNOS and Bex

I have a performance problem with some of my queries when integrating with the COGNOS
My query is simple which gets the data for the date interval : "
From Date: 20070101
To date:20070829
When executing the query in the Bex it takes 2mins but when it is executed in the COGNOS it takes almost 10mins and above..
Any where can we debug the report how the data is sending to the cognos. Like debugging the OLEDB ..
and how to increase the performance.. of the query in the Cognos ..

Hi,
Please check the following CA Unicenter config files on the SunMC server:
- is the Event Adapter (ea-start) running ?, without these daemon no event forwarding is done the CA Unicenter nor discover from Ca unicenter is working.
How to debug:
- run ea-start in debug mode:
# /opt/SUNWsymon/SunMC-TNG/sbin/ea-start -d9
- check if the Event Adaptor is been setup,
# /var/opt/SUNWsymon/SunMC-TNG/cfg_sunmctotng
- check the CA log file
# /var/opt/SUNWsymon/SunMC-TNG/SunMCToTngAdaptorMain.log
After that is all fine check this side it explains how to discover an SunMC agent from CA Unicenter.

Apart from single sign-on, its very straight forward.
I guess, when you render a Cognos report you will have report URL right?
use that url in iframe
<iframe src="url" height=500px,width=500px />
But if you don't have single sign-on , you will be asked to login and once you login to Cognos, you should be good to render any report from cognos through browser.
I have integrated OBIEE and BO into our stack so, the need to train normal users is eliminated.

Cognos Iviews integration into SAP Enterprise portal 7.0-Error

Dear Experts,
I had integrated the cognos iviews into SAP Enterprise portal and facing some problems.
in the navigator iview i am able to see folder structure
Public Folders and My folders .
when i click Public Folders following details are coming
GoSales ( analysis ) | -->Product analysis
|--> Time vs Product sales
GoSales( Query)
OSD_CO3
on click of Product analysis (any link) link i am getting following error
Cognos 8 -> An error has occurred.
DPR-ERR-2079 Firewall Security Rejection. Your request was rejected by the security firewall.
CAF rejection details are available in the log. Please contact your administrator.
Apart form this images are not displaying in the portal iviews.

This might be a authorization issue, you might not have appropriate permissions to use the public folder. Contact the authorization team to resolve this error they might help you.

Error while integrating BEx Query with Cognos

Hi all,
we have made 999 rows and 150 columns..
but we r unable to integrate it with cognos if we remove free characteristics....
and it thows me the following error
1.BAP-ERR-0002 a BAPI error has occured in the function module RFC_READ_TABLE. NOT_AUTHORIZED
2.error when generating data provider
3.Query is too large
Please do reply immediately with the correct solution

IBM Cognos 8 BI Integration with Weblogic portal

Hi,
In our project we need to integrate IBM Cognos 8 BI portlets with Weblogic portal 10.3.
1. How to integrate Cognos ?
2. How to enable SSO between Portals & Cognos? Cognos should use the portal users credentials for authentication

Basically I am saying that your options are
1. Screenscraping the apps into portlets
2. Using SSO to login to the apps, but keepin them separate
3. Using Web Services to consume parts of the apps and exposing those as portlets
For our application we do 2 and 3. In many cases we just create portlets that represents views into other j2ee apps. When the users click on something, we launch the j2ee app in a popup browser. The users are already signed on, and taken to a specific detail page, add page or something within the app directly.

I have to pull the data from Documentum docbase into Cognos and then I have to create a model on top of it for reporting... I dont see any docmentation about it on the net.....any suggestions and links are welcome.

I want to display the report from Cognos System, but i want to take up the Snapshot of the report in backend and while in displaying in Portal an image of the particular report should be displayed, what's the report running.

No direct one for the time being. You can't import Cognos metadata into the rpd like you would for Essabse or MS Analysis Services.

This is a bit of a tall order, from what I understand Cognos uses webservices, if this is the case once you have set it up you can use weblogic workshop to create java controls that "talk" to your Cognos web services. Once you have your java controls whatever J2EE application you have running on BEA Weblogic can use the services provided by Cognos by calling the appropriate methods on the controls. Hope this puts you in the right direction.

You should check with your Oracle or Cognos sales consultant. Depending on whom you ask you will get an answer weighted towards one vendor or the other :)

Finally, you could even try out the software - free (under a developer license), which is more than can be said about Cognos or other vendors that are too scared of letting people even try out their software without first purchasing it.
