Issue with OLAB Cube Reports. Database Server in VPC Private Subnet

Hi,
Environment:
Deployed Project Server 2010 with 2 server Architecture( 1 for Web/Front end server and 1 for DB Server) on Amazon VPC. Web server is on Public subnet and Database server is on
Private subnet.
Issue:
We have sucessfully configured OLAP Cubes and able to view reports within the app server. But when we try to access the same reports over the internet site and outside of cloud domain, excel is not able to connect DB server using .odc connection and Pivot
tables or data are not loading.
Solutions tried:
Opened all necessary ports in DB server for SQL Server-1433, Analysisc Service-2383 & 2382 and Browser Service - 1434. But still no luck.
So with this setup of Project Server, is it possible to access OLAP Cube reports out side of Cloud newtwork? If yes, how can we make this work?

Hi Ram,
I am not sure if it will work then as the client machine will try to find the Analysis Services(AS) server which is not available over the internet. You can try to open the needed ports through the firewall and configure a subdomain to point to your AS and
this should be available over the internet (e.g. analysisServices.domain.com). However, this is a potential security breach and may be not be allowed by your company policies.
However, I would go with the option I mentioned in my previous answer as this way the users can run the reports and the reports can be configured using that cloud machine

detailed form of data
flat file formate structure
two dimentional
performance is less as compared to cube
overwrite data functionality
obviously INFO CUBE reporting is more advantageous coz, we can go for dimensional reporting . DSO is only for data staging and cleansing the data purposes. if you are using BI 7.0 better create MULTI PROVIDER even if you are using single info cube coz, thats a gud practice.

ODS VS Cube Reporting.

Hi,
I need to report on Transactional Data which is from Flat File.
I intend to load to ODS and Report on it.
Later if need be i can create Infocube depending on reporting requirement.
Is this ok?
Moreover what difference i see in reporting if i use ODS instead of Infocube?
i.e Any advantage of using Infocube instead of ODS in prespective of Reporting Output?

Hi,
For simple Flat File data you can go either DSO or CUbe it is not a problem, in DSO you can't create a dimenstions , but in Cube you can create upto 13 dimensions and you can analyse the report in Multidimensional way in Cube reporting.
For simple flat reporting you can for DSO, it is very fast because it is like TWO demenstional Table.

CUBE reporting; step-by-step guide required

I'm new to Oracle and have been assigned the job to create a CUBE reporting tool for an financial application. I have two questions;
1. On server side; what am I required to do? The database is fairly complex (fully normalized), I have read a few articles on creating dimensions, creating new databases etc. Can anyone suggest the best approach and/or point me to a tutorial on the process of this and the tools required.
2. We're wanting a customizable interface reporting tool, we're using ASP.Net, does anyone know of a good tool for this (in relation to question 1).

You mean an n-dimensional OLAP cube and not the CUBE() analytic function? Well, I would suggest you want to be using teh built-in functionality rather rolling your own, so the best place to start is the documentation. Note that OLAP is only available with the Enterprise licence.

Data mismatch between Cube & Report

Gurus,
I am running a 'Sales -forecast & Commitment Analysis' report. For some reason, when I drill down to the Profit center, Major category & material level, my individual line items do not sum to the Result row i.e. there is a mismatch betwen the line iten numbers & the result.
However I checked with the listcube functionality of the cube. I see no fault with the data in the cube.
I also sat with the Basis/DBA guys, but i got to know there isn't any fault with the DB side or with indexing either. I have checked the report, the aggregates aswell. I am not able to make out anything.
Guru Plz suggest a solution.

Hi,
In your query click on the particular key figure and select calculations tab from the properties.
check what you have in calculate result as over there. make it total and see if it solves the problem.
Also check in the aggregation tab for any exception aggregation. in display tab see if any scaling factor is used. no scaling factor should be used genrally.

SSRS cube report with parameters...and more

Hi,
I have created some basic SSRS reports in the past with parameters, but I was just given the following project by my manager and I would like to find out 2 things:
1. Can this be accomplished using SSRS
2. If yes, what are the High-Level steps needed to get this accomplished
First off, the SSRS report(s) will be connecting to an SSAS cube, so there will be some MDX involved. The cube is fairly simple, 1 measure group and 3 dimensions.
The main piece of this project will be 4 parameters that will be displayed to the user; Quarter, Division, Operations, and ReportList.
The Quarter is just the Quarter that the user wants to run the report for (Q1-2012, Q1-2013, etc..). This will come from the Date Dimension The Division will be a list of all of our internal divisions that we have setup in our Client Dimension
table (Eastern Division, Western Division, etc...). The Operations will be list of operations for each division selected in the Division parameter (Boston Ops, NY Ops, etc...). This list will also come from the Client Dimension. The ReportList
will be a list of all reports that are related to the Division and Operations Selected. For example, Eastern Division and Boston Ops could have 3 reports, Western Division and San Francisco Ops has 5 reports, etc...
The final piece to this is that when the user selects the reports to be generated, they will have to be created into 1 report. This way the user can convert the report to 1 single PDF file or print the report. So if 3 reports were selected, each
report would be a separate page and could then be converted to a single PDF file or printed.
I know that SSRS has the ability to create cascading parameters, so that should take care of dynamically generating the Operations parameter drop down as well as the REportList drop down. Of course, using MDX to accomplish this will tricky since I
haven't done much with MDX.
I guess my last concern is how to generated multiple reports given the parameters selected and have them be combined into 1 report? I was thinking subreports, but not sure if that would work.
Any feedback or concerns/ideas on how this can be accomplished using SSRS?

Problem with SSAS cube reporting action when using pivot filter with cubevalue function

Hi everyone,
I have a quite specific problem when I combine cube actions (Reporting Action SSRS) with Excel's cubevalue() function.
The problem is when I use a pivot filter as a parameter for the cubevalue() function. The action item does not show up in the context menue.
The cube action works fine when I do it from a "normal" pivot or if I use the cubevalue() function without the reference to a pivot filter (all the parameters in the function are "hard-coded").
I use SSAS 2012 and Excel 2010.

Hi everyone,
I actually figured out a way to solve this problem. I had to use a detour to solve this bug in Excel (at least I think it's a bug).
What I needed to do: I had to make Excel belive that the filter is actuall hard-coded and does not come from a pivot filter. This was only possible by adding a new calculated measure to the cube that gives back the MEMBER_Unique_Name to the current member
passed. This "value" can then be used to go back to the cube and select the cubemember function. Here is a small example.
This is the cube member:
CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey] AS
[Company Branch].[Reg - Comp - Bran Name].CurrentMember.Properties("MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME", TYPED),
VISIBLE = 0 ;
And this is then done in a hidden Excel cell:

I had to use the UniqueName property because I have a combined filter. That's also the reason for this truncation and also useing the last part of it. If you just have a straight key you more easily use it.

Creating structure for FIAR_C03 cube reports.

I want to create structure for report in 0FIAR_C03 cube. of which requirement is as follows.
-          Analysis of how old AR items are in days (key date for reporting minus the net due date),
-          what the balance of the open items are (USD and local currency),
-          Reporting by the country of the end customer,
-          GL restriction. We only want AR trade items, not intercompany.
-          Drilldown to FI document number and line number.

Virtual cube reporting logic

I have created report directly out of BCS transactional Totals cube and is giving correct output.
But why does SAP suggest to make BCS reports out of virtual cube, rather than BCS totals cube? Is it more helpful for reporting if COI logic is implemented?
What is the distinct difference reason for creating reports with Virtual cube Vs Transactional cube.
What is the pros and cons of creating report out of BCS Transactional cube vs virtual cube.?

In general, you are right.
But, in practice... The restrictions that you mentioned may be very easily avoided. As I wrote here:
COI Equity method...
it's not even necessary to have associated companies in the Group's hierarchy. Hence, at equity method limitation doesn't work in our situation.
The main point here is a general consolidation logic. And the virtual cube performs it perfectly.
Of course, we can devise some situation which the vcube will not be able to handle. Like running the report for a period when a daughter company was already sold or become an associate (drastical org changes).

Holap cube reporting on obiee???

is it possible to perform obiee reporting on an holap cube created in essbase using EIS...
In my holap cube cube i have a dimension market. its sub levels are country --> city --> store...
upto the city level data is stored in the essbase cube. whereas the store data is coming from rdbms.......
is it possible to drill down from market to city in obiee..

Yes, this is one of the very good and advanced features of OBIEE (nquire). Search the web i.e. for "obiee aggregate navigation"

So you would have to model two LTS (LogicalTableSource) for your LogicalTables in BMM layer, one pointing to Essbase's physical tables on the right hand side and the other pointing to your rdbms table(s). In this scenario it is very important to set the levels on your LTS's correctly.

Inaccurate Actual Work hours in the Portfolio Analyzer Cube Report

I am trying to create a report that will show all resources and the status of their timesheets. For the sake of this picture I removed the project list and resource list from my pivot table. I am using the Portfolio Analyzer cube for creating this report.
My question is why when using Actual Work is it showing the same hours for timesheet status? I would think the columns would each have different hours based off which stage of the time approval process the resource was in.

No. It is only showing hours from project status and not timesheets. Timesheet is a completely separate bucket of time.

Livecache remote cube report shows double the value in BW reports

Hi,
We are trying to report against livecache using remote cube and getting
doubled values in reports where as direct report against livecache is showing different results.
Transaction: RSA3
Data Souce: Livecache
Planning version: 000
Loaded one particular product
Then consensus forecast shows a value 250.
The same information if we try to access using BEx analyzer 3.x then
Consensus forecast = 500
Which is DOUBLE the value than it is using RSA3. Why is it doubling? Please let me know if you come across similar issue.

please check the Remote cube contents as well. Go to ListCube transaction enter the remote cube and check the contents of that cube.

Show record number in cube report

There is record number for ODS and infoset, where I can get record number for Cube? I remember I can use formulary, however I can not find it.

try in selection screen, mark 'output number of hits', and entry Max. no. of hits with a big number, estimate will bigger then the total rows you will get.
after execute, there is one column 1ROWCOUNT which's filled with '1', click this column and click 'Total' (icon like E), the last row of table will show the total rows.

Using Voyager for BW cube reporting

Hi folks,
Am trying to use Voyager for reporting off a BW multicube. This is the first time am trying this tool out. Can't seem to find anything for Navigation attributes in the data panel when trying to create new queries. The same also applies for the display attributes attached to the Infoobjects, in that they do not appear on the Voyager side. How can this be handled at all? Or is that a known limitation?
On another front, are there any ways to create restricted key figure type functionality in Voyager? How can that be approached?

Okay, first of all, i was able to create queries so there is definitely more to that then. I could not see any BW queries for the multicube in the Voyager .. are there any special settings that would show those queries?
Modifying queries - i could do that as well but then this is only applicable to the ones i created in the Voyager workspace. I am guessing you were referring to the BW queries in your note.
Okay, so for the RKFs, are there any other ways to overcome that limitation such as if my column spread to be something on these lines. Column 1 - Actual version for Previous year Sales , Column 2-Actual version for current year Sales and so on...
