BI IP Bex - Comment

Hi,
I am working on BI IP project in BEx environment. One of the top priorities from the user is to enable input of comments on the layout and also report on comments.
I have created a characteristic on comment 'without text and master data' like I did in BPS. I have seen one paper(How To... Flexibly Change Characteristic Values and Comments in BI IP ") in WAD environment but does not explain in Bex environment.
I have read one of threads about comments input in BEX environment. I under sand that we need to have VBA code to pass the values to variables. I have not seen any threads with VBA code and how exactly we can achieve it.
Please let me know if you have any 'How to Doc" or the procedure to input comment and save the data . Can we use exit planning function to change comments?
Any suggestions/ thoughts around this area are appreciated.

Hi,
First you need to selet desire cell on which you need to create the comment then context menu-> documents->create comment . then i will brings you to portal there you need to provide your login cridential then click on new then provide your comment Technical name and description and then say save . then close the portal and BEx and then relogin into the BEx then comment will appear.

Comments in Bex-Workbook IP BW 7.0 ?

It is possible to insert a 'Comment field' in a - let say- Web planning application using the single document web item. However I am not aware of any possibilities to do so in the Bex-Workbook. Therefore following 2x questions:
- Is it possible to insert in BEx-Workbook a Comment field, where the planner could e.g comment the increased budget on a certain cost center?
- Is it possible to report over the entered comments ( let say in a query?)

Hi,
As far as I know, this functionality is not available in excel frontend (not cent-percent sure about latest SPs becuase I heard that this was planned for some future SP).
Documents created in queries are saved against a combination value of characteristics - to be able to report on them, you should have the same drilldown of characteristics in the query alongwith which you want to fetch the documents. Also, make sure that the save level of the documents in infoprovider level and not query level (can be set in Web Template properties).

Error when creating a comment on a key figure from Bex

When we try to create a comment on the query executed through a BEX Web Analyzer, we get the error message "Cannot read content from IContent instance. Error: You are not authorized to create a document with these properties".I have all authorization and all the 0tca* infoobjects are also activated.
Any ideas?

Are you talking about BW Documents. Did you get a chance to look into this SAP Note. <a href="https://websmp205.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=01100107900000000342&_EVENT=REDIR&_NNUM=947209&_NLANG=E">Note 947209 - No authorization for documents on library items (3.x)</a>

BEx Analyzer comments in ABAP Runtime?!

Hallo, we are using BEx 7.3 in ABAP Runtime (only ABAP Stack). In BEx Analyzer we want to use comments functionality to upload a Word or Excel Document for comments, but the Document Browser we are getting is of BEx 3.x which doen't provide the Button to uplaod the Word/Excel Documents. According to SAP in ABAP Runtime there is no way to upload Word/Excel Documents through BEx Analyzer comments functionality. Ist there any work arround?? Can any body hepl on this issue?

thanks for your reply but the Link to SAP-Library shows the document about the Documents Browser in Portal, JAVA Runtime. But we don't have JAVA / Portal environment, we have only ABAP Stack.
The T-Code does not help, cause the BEx Analyzer version we are using is BEx 7.3. It is only the Document Browser which is of 3.x version, because according to SAP Helpline the BEx Analyzer in ABAP Runtime works only with 3.x Document Browser.
Does anybody know a work around to upload the Word documents?

Insert comment or documentation into bex /web report

yes, you're right - there is a standard-functionallity.
But at least for the BEx Analyzer (and for the Web-Analyzer as well, which is the reason why the SAP published an How-To document "Building a Fast and Flexible Comment Solution for Bex Web Applications") this function has some disadvantages which raises the very common request to enter comment into Excel-Cells directly.
But you're right - this "advanced commenting" feature was not really the point of this thread.

Display Comments directly on BEx Excel sheets

Marc has a white paper on displaying comments and attached documents on BPS web. Is there a solution to do the same on BEx Excel sheets when running a query?

Sanjay, yes you are correct that is how to goto the document, but how do you automaticaly include it in a printed version of the workbook?

WEB BEx Analyzer Comments on Query level

I would like to enable BW users to create comments for some queries an enable other user to read them. System BW 7.01.
Issues and questions:
-how to create comment on query level - it's always on data (KYF), Metadata or Master data level
-I would like to show the document icon - next to the query title (it's relevant for the query)
-when I create Comments (with the button in the standard template), it's on the data level (combination of KYF) - and when I
switch to icon display (settings) I get icons in every line. If this would be just at KYF header??
-where can I edit, delete, ... recorded comments

Hi Tom,
1) If you want to create comments on query level, you need to create metadata documents, object type 'ELEM', object name is the technical name of the query.
2) Document icons are always shown in the data table. Thus it will be hard to show a document icon for a document on query level. If you are using web templates, you can insert a single document item on metadata documents to display the comment on the query.
3) Where the document is displayed depends on the document properties. If a characteristic is document property depends on the infoobject setting -> transaction RSD1 -> enter the characteristic -> tab 'general'.
To see the document properties you can execute the query for example in RSRT (html mode) -> create a new document on any cell. On the bottom you will see the document assignment. Compare this assignment with the cell next to it. If its the same the document will be displayed in both cells. The same can be done for example in java web -> create a new document and switch to the second tab ('BI').
4) Documents can be edited and deleted in the document browser itself, when you open the document in the executed query or in transaction RSA1 -> documents.

Unable to see other writer's checked check boxes in comments of shared review

I'm using Acrobat 3D Version 8 in a Windows XP environment. We are using SharePoint for shared reviews.
We are able to see developer's comments, and we can respond back to the comments with a reply. However, when we use the checkbox to indicate that a comment has been addressed, each writer can only see the checkmarks that she makes. We cannot see checkmarks made by other writers.
We have tried selecting the check box, and we have also used the check box icon to select the check box. We then publish and the the action is accepted as a comment and is published. But we are unable to see each other's check boxes.

Solved on my own.
Simply close BEx Analyzer and restart it again. If still it doesn't work then restart your computer and then run BEx Analyzer again, it will definitely work.

BEx report issue on setting offset value

Friends,
I have got a Bex reporting requirement as follows.
Given a Calendar week I have to show data for 5 Key figures for the next 3 calendar weeks. For ex: if I enter 05/2006 I have to show data for 05/2006, 06/2006 and 07/2006.
I thoght of using the Off Set parameter for all the Key figures, and for testing I did for 2nd set of Key figures with off set (1)..but these key figures are not showing any data.. Is it I am missing anything here ??
Please comment if you have any better thoght of doing this..

Hi,
The format of period you gave refers to month i believe. If it is right, check the offsets once again. If the user enters fiscal year period, it should be converted in to week period using an customer exit variable(if you don,t have 0CALWEEK) and set offsets.

Cannot open query in Excel (BEX analyzer)

Hello Experts,
Issue: Cannot open the BEX report in Excel but can open the same report on IE.
1) I am trying to open a BEX report "ReportA" in Excel (BeX Analyzer).
2) As soon as the report opens it shows me a message "Do you want to open the 3.X workbook for upgrade"
3) I click on "OK"
4) then i get a message window listing a lot of warnings liike " Access to project denied" "creation of items failed"
5) i click on "OK"
6) Now, variable entry screen appears
7) i enter values and click on "OK" the report does not show any data.
Now, the same report "reportA" when i open it in Internet Explorer, it displays data. What can be reason for this problem in BEX analyzer ?

Hi Suraj,
If you want to execue your query, you can use the bex analyzer.
If you are opening the query from query designer 3.x query in 7.0 fronend, it will get upgraded and then cannot be reveted.
In your case this automatic migration might be havng some issues, owing to complexities.
Please recheck.

BEx query iView in Portal

Hi All,
I am trying to create a BEx query iView in EP 7.0 and my BI system is BI7.0.
I am refering to the following <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/33/39fa40ee14f26fe10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">LINK</a> for this but I am not able to get the value for "bookmark_id" from the URL which is generated when I execute the query in standalone mode.

Dear Luciano,
I referred to the note you have suggested and as per the note, I need to install BI-JAVA on my portal system to access BI content.
Please see this <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/thread?threadID=410737">FORUM</a>, it tells that with single sign on between portal and BI system you will not require BI-JAVA on EP if it is already installed on BI system which in my case is already done.
Kindly comment on the forum whether it is true or not.

Looks like in the EP System Landscape you have 2 BI systems defined and both systems are defined as Master Systems. This is a property of the System. Make sure you set only one system as the Master system. There should be a one to one mapping between the EP and BI System.

Can we display comments row for row in Input Ready Query...

Dear All,
Currently I have created Web template with Signle Document. When executed it in the Portal it will come up with a "Save" and "Cancel" button of its own and can allowing me to capture comment here & Finally Click on SAVE button which was stored in Documents area in RSA1.
Now I am was trying to figure out to display comments Row for Row in Input Ready Query...
Can you give ideas on this...

In query properties in BEx query designer you have to do settings to - Display document links
For metadata, master data, and InfoProvider data for a query, you can display links to Documents that you have created for these objects. If documents exist for these objects, the symbol appears next to these objects. If you click on this symbol, you jump to where the document is displayed on the Web.
Highlight the appropriate setting so that the document links for the desired document class are displayed. The document classes are oriented to the various categories of BW objects. InfoProvider data, metadata and master data.

BI 7.0 Bex Report Designer

The design seems exciting but till we have atleast a sneak peek or an eval version no one can say...
SAP any comments on when we can expect an Eval or a Sneak Peek other than PDFs ?
