BI Production as a source system on BI Development

We have a requirement to make the Production BI environment as a source system on the Development BI environment. This is required with a view to make greater live data available in a particular cube on the Development box to aid in future enhancements
The same Production BI environment is again reaquired as a source system on the Quality BI environment. This is required with a view to make greater live data available in a particular cube on the Quality box to help in testing/UAT activity
My question is that corresponding to the source system BI PROD on BI DEV and source system BI PROD on BI QA.  What can I keep as a source on BI PROD itself. Can/should BI PROD itself be the corresponding source system on BI PROD ? Is it technically feasible. What are the pros and cos/risks of such a design design

Hello,
You can add the BW production system as a source system in the DEV and QA system without any problem. I don't believe there is any need to attache the production system as a source to itself, this connection alrady exists (the so called myself connection), if you goto RSA1 and under source system you will find a source system connection for production that points to it self, this is used for all internal datamart loads that might occur in the production system itself. Therefore there is no need to add the system again with a connection to itself.

    Here is the situation:

  • Inconsistent Dev System: Infosource assigned to incorrect Source System

    Hello all
Our Development box contains inconsistent assignments of infosources to source system.
When I compare the dev, quality and production boxes I find:
    > Quality and Prod are consistent and all infosource systems are assigned to correct source systems - all loads execute as expected.
    > However I find ips defined in the process chains in Quality and Production under incorrect source systems in the Development box.
    > Also, the inconsistencies are varied for ex: SALESORG_ATTR is assigned to source system Y, while SALESORG_TEXT is assigned to source system X, while 0CUSTOMER_ATTR is assigned to source system Z ( where Z is the correct source system).
I have not been able to figure what lead to this inconsistency except that I am aware that there were plugins installed and some refreshes done followed up by BDLS.
I did try having BASIS execute BDLS to convert all logical systems X to Z ( but there were errors in the log stating that destination Z already exists - which is correct since for ex 0CUSTOMER_ATTR is assigned correctly to source system Z)
I was considering the following to rectify this situation:
    1> Make the rectifications manually
1a> Identify all the infosources in all the process chains in quality/production
1b>Manually reassign all infsources/datasources to the right source system
1c>Check all the mapping rules (transfer rules) and ensure they are same as quality/production
    1d> Activate the transfer rules
    1e>Create infopackages
1f> Transport the ips to quality and reassign them to the process chains.
    > This is a very labourious task and invovles high risk due to manual effort
2> Refresh from quality into dev
    2a> Recreate the transport routes
2b> Resynchronize all the loads with the R3 dev box
    > This would cause loss of version history and therefore not recommended by SAP
3> Rollback to a restore point
3a> We would need to find whether we maintain a restore point in the past before which the system were consistent.
3b> Reimport all the transports from the restore point till date
    4> Rerun BDLS
4a> This might involve deleting all occurences of source system Z from the dev box
Please advise what would be the best approach / if theres a better way to address this issue.
    Thankyou

    Hi,
Goto RSA1 in yy BWQ system.
In the Menu ---> Tools --->  Mapping of Source System Names ( Shift + F6)
Change the Target Source System as BWP server.
Now move the transport to BWQ. Your BWP will be assigned as source system.

  • Deleting a Source System in BW Prod

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to delete the assignment of R/3 Production as a Source system in BW Prod but the system is not letting me- informing that:
Package ZBWD does not exist- choos display object or cancel.
The reason I am doing this is at present the source system is assigned to Infoobject 0WBS_ELEMT but I want to assign the 0WBS_ELEMT_ATTR & 0WBS_ELEMT_TEXT datasources to the 0WBS_ELEMT_ATTR & 0WBS_ELEMT_TEXT InfoSources.  I would like to un-assign this datasource from 0WBS_ELEMT and assign to the InfoSources stated above.
I am trying to bring in WBS Element master data but found in Dev when I bring it in through the infoSources it is available in BW but through the 0WBS_ELEMT infoObject there is no data in the masterdata tables.
How can I delete this source system assignment in BW Prod?
    Thanks
    Depesh

    hi Depesh,
i think system won't let you delete source system assignment in prod if it's closed for modification
(transaction scc4), if you really need to do this directly in prod, please ask basis open awhile,
have you tried delete the source system assignment in dev and transport to prod ?
regarding package zbwd not exist, check in prod if package zbwd exist,
transaction se80, choose 'package', type in zbwd,
it will display the package or ask to create new if not exist. transport package zbwd from bw dev if it's not exist in prod.
    hope this helps.

  • Mapping source system in different Systems.

    Hi experts,
I want to define different source systems for different development, quality and Production systems.
I have defined it on "TOOLS/ Conversion of logical system names"
I want to have directly the new assignements when transporting.
I have the source systems defined in each system.
Do I nedd to define it anywhere else?
    Thanks!
    Artur.

    Hi Artur,
This can be done in transaction RSLGMP in destination system.
So thats the same thing, you have done as well. so nothing else required, provide we have the RFC connections set right.

  • Transporting SOURCE SYSTEM

    Hi Experts,
I created a Flat File Source System in BW Development system based on that i created DSO,CUBE,MULTICUBE,PROCESS CHAIN and REPORTS.
    Issue :
I need to transport them to Test and Production system. There is no Flat File source system avaliable in Test & Production....I know that we don't Transport Source Systems across BW Environments...how to deal with this...do i need to ask our basis team to create source systems in Test and Production before importing any transports.

Yes - you basis guy will help you to setup the source systems.
STEPS TO CREATE FLAT FILE SOURCE SYSTEM
step:1 select source systems under modeling in AWB.
step:2 select Source Systems root node.
    |---> context menu
    |--->create......
step:3 select your required source system Icon.
(in your case it is PC Icon).
there it askes for a logical.......and source system name...
here u can specify any name of ur wish
    for example:-
    logical sys name --- PC_FF
source system name --- flat file source system*
    *press Continue * button.
Observe the activation icon to confirm the successfull creation(_glowing lamp icon_ symbol)

  • Assignment of Source System in quality after transport

    Hi Experts,
We have implemented the Inventory management standard flow in Development,
Now to tell you, we have multiple landscape over here,
Depending on the project, and the fesiblility for the client, the tranport layer is been decided,
But for sure we have multiple source system,
By multiple source system, i mean not the other components like R/3, SRM or APO,
but for R/3 itself we have multiple boxes at each layer,
    Now when transported to quality,
the standard objects are reflecting after few errors corrected and re transports,
But the source system which it has picked for the BF BX and UM datasource is not that i require according to the transports landing for the R/3 developments,
    AT DEVELOPMENT LAYER,
BW development is GDA, which is having the source system connection to development R/3 (GD0),
    AT QUALITY
    We have BW as EQ3,
    For R/3 we have EQ0 and NR0,
All the transports have reached in the respective target quality system,
But the data sources are having source system connection to NR0 and not EQ0,
I want it to be EQ0 as the data lies over there.
How do i resolve this ?
Thanks and should be appricated for your efforts in helping.

    Hi Daljeet,
You should set the Source system Conversion option in Transport Connection before Transporting the objects to QA and PRD.
You can do this using the button 'Conversion' next to the button 'Source System Assignment'. Here you can specify the Target source system name after the Transport.
If you want to change all the assignments from NR0 to EQ0, this article will be helpful for you.

  • Test System (BQ1) Objects showing up wrong Source System after Transport.

    Hi Experts,
We are working on IS-U BI7.0 Project. We have finished with our Development and have transported the DataSources, Transformations and DTPs from Development (BD1) into Test (BQ1) Systems.
We have entered values in the Conversion of Logical Source Systems correctly.
When we select the DataSource and Click Object Directory Entry from the Extras Menu, we found that the Original Source System is defined as BQ1 instead of BD1 (Development System), which is where the Object is getting Transported from.
We have implemented an SAP Note:1008633 (Incorrect Source System after Transport (RSTRAN 514) but couldn't resolve the issue.
We basically want all the Objects in the BQ1 (Test System) showing the Original Source System as BD1 (Development System) but only the DataSources and it's connected Transformations and DTPs are originating from the BQ1 (Test) System itself (The Transformations when Transported from BD1 to BQ1 are Transported with a different Technical Name which is very strange).
Had anyone faced similar problem and if so, what was the effective solution implemented.
Any help in this regard is very much appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Best Regards,
    Chandu.

It is resolved by our Basis.

  • Multiple source system issue...

    Hi,
We have two source system for BW Development and one source sytem for BWQ and BWP.
My query is: we have added two extra fields 0SOURCESYSTEM, 0FISCVARNT in the key fields to handle data from two different systems.
Do anyone have any more suggestion to handle such a scenario.
    Suggestions will be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
Incase if you are loading data from two sourcesytem ,you will have two data sources each representing one sourcesytem, then you can assign these to an infosurce with flexible update.
now you can craete two info packages for each source sytem and can load the data to the target
the steps may look something like this
    replicate datasource1
    replicate datasource2
    create infosurce
assign datasource1 and datsource2 to infosurce
    maintain transfer rules
    under infosource
    later create Ip for source1
    create Ip for source2
    crate target
    create updaterules
map the infosoure to update rules
    cheers,

  • Webservice source system transport

    Hello,
I have created a Webservice source system in our development server. Also it has datasources created.
The transport request containing the source sytem fails with the error message saying
Source system GPU_WBSRV does not exist.
But I have included the source system in my transport request.
The transport request keeps on failing with this message.
    Workaround performed by me:
I created the source system with the same name and settings in the Quality server and then transported the same request.
The transport went through successfully and the datasources and other objects for the webservice were also transported under that source system. So all looks fine....
But now if i transport the same requests to my acceptance box...it fails with the same error. so after creating the source system in acceptance box when i transport the datasource ,  the modified version of datasource is seen. The datasource does not get activated no matter what I do.....
Please suggest me with your valuable inputs..as I have explored the webservice datasources for the first time.

  • Source system in Production doesnt exists Error RC- 8

    Hello experts!
We connected a second source system to our 7.0 BW. We transported from development to quality system and everything is fine. Now we want to transport to production and we got RC=8 and the message that our "source system does not exist"
First we checked our source system. It is ok. we can replicate datasources, load units and currencies. But when we want to transport something what is directly connected to the source system we got everytime a RC=8 because of source system. For sure, we checked our "Conversion of logical source systems names". We checked if the mapping from development to productive is correct many times but we can find no error.
Is there something I can not see?
I tried to transport Transformations, DataSource Migration, other things connected to 7.0 and 3.x DataSources. Nothing works. I transported a transformation got a little different error like no rules exist because missing infoobjects in source or target or they are not activated. But target seems to be ok and source also have the fields.
Also I have searched the previous threads I have got what I have done but for sure some thing I am missing !!
    Any Ideas???
    Best regards,
    Yash

Thanks Murali for your prompt reply,
I have manged to do the conversion settings again and now the source system client problem subsides !!!
But when I import the requests again from QA to PRD it says that some DS cannot be activated due to inconsistency in CRM production system. Actual message is.

  • Source system in Development & Quality & Production

    Dear Experts,
Normally we do developments in Development server,so we create source system connection to R3 Development server (say 120) and create DataSources, DTP and process chains based on the Source system 120.
Now my Doubt is when we transport the developments to QAS, how will i get the data from R3 Quality Server 500 (because my developments -DataSources, DTP,Infopackages and process chains are connected to R3 dev 120).
    how should i do this?
Please give me your valuable inputs.
    Regards
    BI Learner

    Hi Friend,
In general this connections done by Basis people.
So in your case automatically mapped quality r/3 to bw quality, but first replicate changes from r/3 quality to bw quality before moving changes from bw dev to bw quality.
this scenerio is normal wherever you go either in production perspective also.
    SAP BW(Dev)---->SAP BW(Quality) and simaltaneously mapped SAP R/3(120)--->SAP BW(Dev),SAP R/3(500)---->SAP BW(Quality)
llly mapped production also, this is general landscape.
I try to give scenerio and hope it should helps out.
    Thanks-RK

  • Source system assignement in production

    Hi all
Before importing any requests which are related to infosource , cubes and update rules into production, do we need to make any source system assignment in production system?
I have directly imported into production but there were no source system / data source assignments to these infosource.
can you please suggest what to do for these souce system assignments in production.
    thanks in advance
    AN

    Hi,
you have to assign the production source system to your BW system. After replication of the DataSources, you can import your development from the BW development system.
Important is the conversion in the SPRO Transaction - Change source system name after transport. In this view you have to type in the source system name of the source system linked to your development system and the name of the source system linked to your production system. During import to production system, BW will automatically change the source system names.

  • Production transports  referring to Dev Source system

    Hi All,
We have Dev -> QA -> Prod setup for both BW and R/3.
In BW corresponding source systems are created in each server.
Transport Connection Source sytem mapping :
In BW QA , I have mapped the source systems R3DEV to REQA.
In BW PRD ,I have mapped the source systems R3QA to R3PR.
When I move the TP from QA to Prod , it gives error source system "R3DEV" does not exists.
Why is this behaviour ? It should refer to R3QA.
Shall I maintain R3DEV to REPR in production ?
Pls let me know , it's a question of production !
    Regs,

    Hello Subir,
As far as I am aware, when transports are done, the transport first moves from Dev to QA.
Then QA testing is done.Once testing confirmed OK,next is step to transport to prod system.
Now,I believe transport is done not from QA to Prod but from Dev to Prod system.
So I think u have to change source system mapping so that dev changes to prod system once transported.
Request others to confirm my thoughts..
    cheers,
    Vishvesh
