BI Publisher VS Discoverer
Dear All,
I’m involved in an opportunity with Oil&Gaz Company where the customer has Discoverer and Oracle Report Builder as reporting tools. The customer is considering BI Publisher, may you please help me with some materials (Recording, demos, PPTs, …) to prepare my presentation/demo specially to highlight the benefits of BIP vs Discoverer and the several migration options of their existing reports.
Thanks In Advance.
Mohamed.

I am curious to know if the functionality of Discoverer can be replaced with that of the XML Publisher tool?
Thanks,
SueIt will be interesting to see if the publishing/distribution capabilities of XML Publisher will be integrated with Discoverer to fill that hole in Discoverer.
If Discoverer could serve as an XML data source, everything would be easily integrated -

Problem in publishing datamining results in OracleBI discoverer
Hi all,
I'm working with oracle dataminer 10.2 and I need to publish datamining results in oracleBI discoverer 10.1.2.I have registered the Oracle Data Miner Discoverer Gateway in the EUL.
The problem is that "Publish to Discoverer menu" doesn't appear in the" Publish pull-down menu" in oracle dataminer.
My question is: this problem has happened because I didn't install Patch 4430506 for OracleBI Discoverer Administrator ?
If it's the case, Does anyone have the patch 4430506? I can not download this patch, since I have no metalink account. Could anyone help me this patch? If possible, please send this patch to my email: [email protected]
Thanks muchHi,
That looks like a patch for 10.1.2.
If you are using 10.2, I would think the patch would be unnecessary.
For more information on Discoverer, you should query their forum:

Discoverer Integration with BI Publisher now available
Key benefits of integration of BI Publisher with Discoverer:
- Create highly formatted reports based on your Discoverer worksheets (Relational and OLAP)
- Schedule and Distribute these reports in a variety of formats (e.g. HTML, PDF) via email
On the BI Publisher side, this integration requires BI EE 10.1.3.3 or BI Publisher standalone 10.1.3.3:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101320bi.html
There is documentation about this integration in the New Features guide:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10416/discointeg.htm#BABIDJBC
On the Discoverer side, you will also need to request a Discoverer one-off patch (password protected) from Oracle Support that adds the web services component to your Discoverer system – the patch is number 9334029. You will need to install this on top of a 10.1.2.2 Discoverer install that has been configured to use Oracle Internet Directory. Detailed configuration instructions are available in the one-off patch documentation.Did anyone install this patch and make the integration with BIP work?
I installed the patch (on linux) using opatch apply as indicated in the patch README and opatch says that patch applied successfully. Now if I try to test the web service using http://host:port/discoverer/wsi as mentioned on page 11-2 of OBI New Features guide 10.1.3.3, I get a bunch of java errors like

Publishing Data Mining models, objects to Discoverer
HI everybody,
Does anybody Know where the ODM objects(tables, views) are inserted during the procedure of Publishing to Discoverer?
Whereas , I have defined a Gateway to ODM in Discoverer Administrator and the Publishing does not invoke any error , I don't see the ODM objects in Discoverer Administrator....
Why may this happen?
Thanks , beforehand
SimonPlease ensure the following patch is installed. Which version of Oracle BI are you using?
Patch 4430506 for OracleBI Discoverer Administrator, available from Oracle MetaLink; if this patch is not installed, the gateway will not work.
Also I am assuming you are familiar with how a gateway object can be loaded to the Discoverer Admin GUI in the load wizard. You can get help in Discoverer forum. Discoverer

BI Publisher vs PeopleSoft XML Publisher & Error with Templates
Hello All,
I am completely new to this so please bear with me.
1.) What is the difference between Oracle BI Publisher and PeopleSoft XML Publisher?
2.) I am working with PeopleSoft XML publisher and I had to make a change ontop of a bundle.
I needed to change the rtf template so I uploaded it, however, when our report defn, template defn, and file defn got migrated to out tst environment something happened and I am getting the following error: Template file not found in DB. Because of this error I can no longer access the report definition via the application. It is also telling me that there is a problem with the LoadTempDefn process in the peoplecode. This is pointing to the scroll area where the templates are uploaded.
I need some help resolving this i.e details on what tables PeopleSoft uses in the DB to store templates? And how I can get rid of this error.
Any help would be much appreciated.

HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error from Discoverer Viewer to Portal
HI,
I created a tab with a list of workbooks created with Discoverer Viewer and published with Discoverer Portliest Provider (List of Database Workbooks). Another tab contains four Discoverer Worksheets created with the same account. Everything works well but if i click on a report in list and open Discoverer Viewer, when i return to portal and go to tab containing worksheets i see message "HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error" and i'm not able to do anything. I only can close my browser and i must reconnect to portal!
Can you help me?
My portal version is cg (9.0.4), i'm using Windows 2000 ESP and Internet Explorer 6.
I tried with Olin and Mazola but result did not change.
I used a public connection bud i tried a private connection too. Nothing happened. The application.log file, under the OC4J which running your Discoverer provider, should give you some hints about the problem you're facing.

Pass page parameter to discoverer portlet
Hi All,
iAS Version 10g(9.0.4)
I created worksheet(graph) using Discoverer plus having 4 parameters. I published the
discoverer graphs as discoverer portlet in Oracle portal. However for this worksheet it shows
(No parameters) in Page --> Properties --> parameter. I created simple parameter portlet with
4 items, this entry I need to pass to this discoverer portlet/Worksheet.
Any suggestion would help.
ThanksHi,
Thank for your reply.

Oracle BI Discoverer 10.1.2.3
Greetings All,
In order to integrate BI Publisher with Discoverer here are the steps I found:
1. Have access to or have Installed Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.2. Then download and install the one-off Discoverer Patch. Go to the Oracle MetaLink ( http://metalink.oracle.com/ ) site to download patch # 5648158.
2. Have access to or have Installed Oracle BI Discoverer 10.1.2.3.
3. Have access to or have Installed Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise and BI Publisher Desktop, version 10.1.3.3. Note: BI Publisher Desktop requires a current installation of MS Word.
4. Set up Discoverer Web Services and define its authorized users. Then, establish the BI Publisher Security Configuration by using BI Publisher Enterprise Security Center.
I have question about about step 2. I cannot find any info on downloading and installation of Oracle BI Discoverer 10.1.2.3
I found following thread:
Re: How Do I Install Discoverer Plus
and then found Michael's blogs...
"Upgrade to 10.1.2.3
This is not currently a must-have upgrade. and if you have already installed it I urge you to de-install it. This was released as part of Application Server 10g patch set 3 and you are urged not to apply it just yet (click here). When this is ready, which will not be long, it will include all of the bug fixes from 10.1.2.2 CP6 as well as the web services patch 6622352 (see below). Hopefully even the bug fixes from CP7 will be included too."
Is this patch "safe" to install?
Sorry, for the edits ( my mistake in version numbers)
Thanks,
Raman

rxshahHi Michael,
Looks like I need to do the following:
Install Appserver 10.1.2.0.2, upgrade to 10.1.2.2 by applying patch 4960210, apply CP6 6669033, apply webservices patch 6622352.
The patch 4960210, CP6 (6669033), webservices patch (6622352) should be applied on top of full blown appsserver (which includes among other things web disco) or can they be applied on top of Business Intelligence (the version of appserver that has web disco only)? pls see http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html

Integrating Discoverer in a Publiehr report
Héllo,
I try to make a report based on a Discoverer query, but I've got problems creating the data model.
I followed the instructions of this site :
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:65B0_hSn0R8J:www.rittmanmead.com/2007/09/integrating-bi-publisher-and-discoverer/+Discoverer+and+BI+Publisher+integration&cd=3&hl=fr&ct=clnk&gl=fr
When I create my data model, I choose the type "Oracle Discoverer". When I try to retrieve the connections, I've got this error
"An error occurred when retrieving the connections.
Error Detail
; nested exception is:
java.net.UnknownHostException: null"
Does someone know how I could handle it ?
Thanks !
Edited by: jbg on 13 janv. 2011 02:56Better check my White paper which talks about the matter. This may be a bit outdated but I still consider it important as it discusses the integration points.

Discoverer on Apps Server 10.1.3.2.0
Hi,
We're trying to install Apps Server 10.1.3.2.0 and have BI Publisher and Discoverer on it.
Q1. Is it possible to install Discoverer in Apps Server 10.1.3.2.0. Has any one tried this?
Q2. To integrate BI Publisher and Discoverer (with the caveat that we can install them both successfully on 10.1.3.2.0), what web services patch goes for Discoverer?
Any help with this is highly appreciated!
-EstherAnswering my own question ---
Apps Server 10.1.3.2.0 doesn't come with Discoverer. Discoverer will still be on AS 10.1.2.2.0 with latest patch (CP6) + Web Services Patch for integration with BI Publisher. -
Ways to put Multiple discoverer worksheets in a single Portlet. (10G releas
Hi all
Can anybody suggest me ways to put Multiple discoverer worksheets in a single Portlet. (10G release 2)
- Out of the box (no coding option)
- Java Beans options
Note:- the discoverer sheet portlet allows only 1 workseet.
Would appreciate any pointers/help in this regard
Cheers!!
PuneetHi Puneet,
Discoverer portlets do not require any knowledge of code, Java beans, HTML, or any other programming construct. They are probably the simplest and easiest to use business intelligence portlets in the market today, and most customers I show these to are simply amazed at their power and user friendliness.
Anyway, to answer your question:
- You can choose to have one table (or crosstab) and one graph in one Discoverer portlet.
Note that since a Discoverer portlet is published on a Portal page, you do not have to worry about having or not having the capability to publish more than one Discoverer worksheet to a single portlet. By adding multiple Discoverer portlets to a single (or multiple) Portal pages you can achieve the same effect.
Discoverer is a portlet provider to Oracle Portal. This means that any Discoverer worksheet - table, crosstab, or any of the 50+ graph types - can be published to an Oracle Portal page without any coding. This is the Discoverer Worksheet portlet.
A second Discoverer portlet is the List of Worksheets portlet, which allows you to publish a list of worksheets to a Portal page as a portlet.
The third Discoverer portlet type is the Gauge portlet. This allows you to publish a Discoverer crosstab worksheet as a Gauge (dial) visualization, allowing you to create dashboards.
For more information take a look at the "Oracle® Business Intelligence Discoverer Publishing Workbooks in Oracle Application Server Portal" doc, 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.1), Part No B14465-02
