BI System acting as Source system ? why ?

Hi Freinds ,
Why SAP BI system itself also act as a Source system to another SAP BI system ? what is the need ? why to extract data from another BI system ( Source System ) ? can any one explain this
Ponits for sure...
Regards and Thanks
Vijaya

Hi,
Why cant a BI system act as a source to another BI system.
Let us take an example of some systems( SCM, SRM, CRM, RPM ). These systems support BI as well.
Let us say we have to integrate data from any two of these systems. Instead of taking RAW data from one the systems ( through datasource ), it is always better to take polished data ( from a DSO or a cube / datamart in general ). For this reason a BW system will act as a source.
Also taking an example of our own BW system. Say we are developing or enhancing something in development and we need data from Quality, for this to be feasible the quality system shud act as a source.
Hope this is satisfactory

  • No of Target systems to One source system via TDMS

    Hello,
Wondering if any one in this group have worked on a scenario, where there is 1 source / ECC, and 5-6 target systems/clients.
The reason for asking this question : I have an RFC connection set between the source and target 1, and there is another RFC set from Source to Target 2.
Now, I have 4-5 projects created in TDMS/controller, and when I want to delete a project ( which is configured with source and target 1), I had to deactivate the package in the project, that inturn deactivated the RFC connections of Source and Target 1.
Now, when I am trying to create a landscape between source 1 to target 2, and when I clicked on the distribute RFC connections, it throws an error.
    ERROR DETAILS:
Destination MBT_DD1_ED2_130_00_MBT deactivated or bad state - Connection check not allowed. Message no. CNVMBTRFC123 Diagnosis Connection check for a destination is not allowed. The reason can be that the destination is deactivated, no connection check explicitely choosen, or destination state doesn´t allow the check. Destination is deactivated In table cnvmbtdest in field deactivated you find the information about deactivation state. Keep in mind that for each remote system the state can be different for the destinations. Viewing deactiavation state see heading 'Get destination and deactivaten state'. No connection check explicitely choosen When calling the function for checking the connection we have an import parameter no_connection_check. If this parameter is set then no connection check will be done. Destination state doesn´t allow the check In table cnvmbtdeststate you find the state for a destination (also called connection state). If there is no entry then it can be assumed that the destination is OK. If there is an entry then all states with exception of O (connection OK) and the initial entry indicating that there is something not OK with the destination and no connection check will be done untill the issue is fixed. For destinations in the control system you find the destination state in the control system and for destinations in the remote system accordingly in these systems. Viewing destination state state see heading 'Get destination and deactivation state'.
Wondering if someone can help in fixing this. Thanks,

    Thanks Anita,
Will go through the note and will revert back, incase of any further issues.
Also, I want to know why I am not able to delete a project, and when trying to delete a project, that doesn't have a package in it, gives an error. something that says, 500 sap internal error, screen output without connection to user ( termination : RABAX_STATE)
Also, based on my earlier msg, I was trying to go through the tcode " SET_RFC_STATE".
Surprisingly, I see all the Projects that I created with the earlier source/target/RFC connections.
Is there a way to get rid of these projects/ packages which are not in USE.
    Thanks,

  • "Error in source system" while creating source system

    Hello,
I don't know what's our general problem (I suppose that it's ageneral problem) but we always have the following eror while creating a source system:
When we want to create a source system on BI, we first get an error "No connection to source system possible". After checking the RFC connection and correct the password of the remote user on the automatically created _DIALOG RFC connection the exception changes to "Error in source system".
The error occurs after the information "Please log on as an administrator in the following screen".
The remote user on R/3 side has got profiles S_BI-WHM_RFC and S_BI-WX_RFC (found two conflicting statements regarding this profiles), on BI side it has got SAP_ALL and some more profiles
What else could be the problem?
    Greetings & Thanks
    Bettina

    Hello,
    now we know that
    1. the remote user needs profiles SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW and has to be dialog user with a password unequal that password it should have in the future (otherwise you don't see the error messages that appear during the login process)
    2. the system has to be changeable (scc4 and se03)
After the source system is created the changeability can be changed to the original values and the remote user can be changed to a communication user again.
Thanks for the tip regarding the authorizations.
    Greetings
    Bettina

  • Migrate Dataservices source system to new source system type in BW 7.3

    Hi All,
We have upgraded our BW system to 7.3. In our old 7.0 environment we have linked Data Services 4.0 as an external source system. Now in BW7.3 we would like to migrate the developments on the old source system to the new source system type.
Does anyone know if there is any migration tool which we can use for this?
    Best regards,
    F. Geldof

    Hi Valerie,
Unfortunately i didn't find the answer yet. For the moment we have kept the old connection types to our DS environment.
    Good luck!

  • Connect two BW systems to one source system

    Hi Experts!
I would like to know if I can set up two BW systems connect to one source system.  We copied and built new BW system (BW2) from existing BW system (BW1).  We need to have both system connect to one source system.  When I execut Restore from BW2 - RSA1 - Source System, I'm getting a following prompt:
"Connection cannot be used. The connection BB is used in the DEV400 source system as a connection BW1400 to BW. Do you want to delete this connection in source system".
If I select "Delete" then it replace exising connection between BW1 - DEV and creates new connection BW2 - DEV.  If I go back to BW1 and do restore then same thing happens as BW2 connection removed.
Is there anyway we can set up two BW systems connection to one source system with restore?  Connection works fine since each one can connection with no issues.  Just when I do restore, it removes other connection.
    Thanks.

    Check if it helps:

  • Connecting R/3 source system as BW source system type

    hi,
I have just noticed that on my clients system I work now source system SAP ERP is connected as source system type SAP Business Information Warehouse.
Is it ok to do it like that? Should not it be connected as SAP System from release 3.0E (Automaitc Creation)?
or maybe it does not matter?

is it an erp04? as far as i recall the WAS hosts a BW instance as well as the ERP...

  • Two BW systems to single source system

    Hi,
I have created sandbox and copied BW production now its BWQ.
Now we want to connect BWQ to R/3 PRD as source system. But from RSA1 when I try to restore PRD it will delete the connection to BWP and creates to BWQ. But I want both connections to work.
    How this canbe done?

not sure, try check following links, in r/3 side transaction sbiw

  • Error when activate a SAP source system

    Hello Experts,
I have an issue when I try to create a new SAP source system but I cannot complete this operation because a Timeout error occurs when the system made the destiny verification, the source system can be created but not activated, I already create the RFC connection and they are OK, I add the new logical system of the source system in the configuration (SBIW) in the general settings, and the data source tree is show succesfully and sems to work OK and the data sources seems to be OK too.
In the RSA1 transaction, go to source systems tree, choose the SAP source system called: "conexion a dev 200" -> right click and choose activate and the error occurs.
I have a Myself source system already created and activated, I cannot find the source of the problems thata cause the timeout error in the new source system.
Thank you vey much in advance,
    Niurka

Yes, I try ti use the create automatically option first but it doesn't work, because says that we system already exists because here exist a myself source system with an RFC to R/# ( I don't know why), so I must use the manually creation option, I put the logical system, and all the requeriments of the screem. The system create the source system but when I try ti activate it, it is impossible to do it....!
I hope that you can give some tips or solution for this issue,
    Thanks!

  • Error: Infoobject is not defined in the source system

    hi
(I posted this in other forums as well - but wondering, it it should be here in BCT/Extractors - I could use more help).
    this is my issue:
I am trying to load master data (attr) for an infoobject.
But, it fails with the following error message (when I click on the "Error message" button on the "monitor" screen.
"Infoobject is not defined in the source system"
    "Erros in source system".
(I did rsa3 and find it has some data + i checked on the base table as well, it has data; the datasource is from an SRM system) Why is it complaining like this.
any help on what could be wrong here? Pl let me know,
    thanks

    Thanks Ricardo,
I have tried that b4. and it says the "source system connection is OK".
    any other idea?
Do I have to install the infoobjects on the source system as well? SRM is my source system.. I am not sure on that, but If I have to, how do I do that?
    thanks

  • Source system icons changes when connecting SAP BW to mySAP ERP 2004

    Hi,
Just an Interesting observation in relation to the creation of source systems in SAP BW to SAP Web AS 6.40 based systems (mySAP ERP 2004, mySAP SRM, etc).
I thought it would be interesting to share!
The behavior is logical but can be a surprise for a BW administrator who is not aware of the new internal SAP BW systems within mySAP ERP 2004.
    Scenario:
The customer was connecting a stand-alone BW system to two new systems with latest and greatest mySAP ERP 2004 (ECC 5.00) and mySAP SRM.
    Observation:
In the past the SAP R/3 source system would be created with a "SAP R/3 icon" indicating a SAP Source system.
<b>As of mySAP ERP 2004, the source systems will be created in the SAP BW standalone system with the "SAP BW System icon".</b>
Note: This is also the same behavior for new releases of mySAP SRM, and other SAP applications that are <u>based on SAP Web AS 6.40 or greater</u>
    Why?:
The standalone SAP BW system is connecting to a system that contains an internal SAP BW system. The standalone SAP BW system determines that it is possible to extract <u>both</u> from the internal BW System <b>and</b> from the Plug-in extractors. It simply denotes that this source system is a SAP BW system and uses the BW Source system icon. (Remember SAP BW is client independent*!).
Note: This behavior will still occur even if you do not use the internal SAP BW system within mySAP ERP! It is there whether you use it or not.
Second Note: You can still use the ERP Content extractors from the mySAP ERP Source System as you did in prior releases.
    Another related observation:
I would expect that this case will probably be true even if you only use the internal SAP BW.
Scenario: You use the internal SAP BW in another client in the mySAP ERP system than your ERP processing.
Result: The connection between the BW client and the ERP client source system(s) (i.e. client 001 for ERP, client 100 for BW), both the 'myself' and ERP client source systems, will show up as BW source systems!
Source system 001 and source system 100 will be displayed as SAP BW icons because SAP BW is client independent*
user master and authorizations are client dependent
    I hope this was interesting.
    Cheers,
    Mike.

    Hello,
I used my user id to login. I recieved a message :
User already exists in source system  I continue:
Anothre window pops up : "Check  RFC connection" and it asks
'RFC connection already exists in source system . Do you want to check, use or cancel source system connection'
Here I select Use - but i get an error : Error in source system'.
how can i track down this error.

  • Conversion of source system names

    Hello Experts,
After having some transport problem (transporting infopackages), I notice that the source system mapping is not the same in DEV compared to PRD.
Other than change log which was not turned on, is there any other way I can find out who or when was the last change to this mapping table?
Am I right to say the mapping entries should exist in all systems? My DEV currently only has 1 entry compared to 6 entries in QAS and PRD.
The source system underwhich the infopackage resides is not shown in the DEV source system mapping table.
Is this the cause of my transport problem?
    Regards,
    Mirella Russo

    Dear Experts,
Thanks for the useful information. Points awarded.
Am I right to say that mapping in target system cannot be transported and is set directly in target system QAS, PRD via RSA1 and no mapping is required even if there are other source systems, like flat file source systems, when the source system name is to be the same in all systems? In this case, my source system is a flatfile. Does this mean I need not maintain it? The 'no mapping' warning received in transport log shows that the flatfile source system concerned exists in the target system but no mapping. As I do not need source system name change, can I say I need not maintain in the mapping table? I still cannot understand why the error come about.
    Many thank you in advance.

  • Source System Job

    Hi,
I am loading data from CRM system to BI system. Initially I have loaded data from datasource to PSA and PSA to DSO. Data was successfully updated from datasource to PSA and PSA to DSO.
After that I have checked the data records in datasource and BI (PSA & DSO). Datasource has 659 fields and the same count has been uploaded to PSA & DSO.
After that I have checked the job in SM37 in both systems. Job was finished at BI system but in source system side job was still in active mode.
I dont know why it is in active status.
This is the custom datasource which we created and populating data through function module.
can any body tell me why job was still in active mode in the source system and what should I do?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Venkat

    Hi.......
What do u mean by job in BI side completed.............Look when a IP starts..........first a backgroung job will run............after completion of that background job.........the actual IP.....ie the extraction will start......if u r loading through Process chain...........then right click on the load process >> Display message...........Backg tab >> Click on Batch Monitor ..........the job name is BI_PROCESS_LOADING............if u r not loading through Process chain...........u can check this job in SM37......................r u talking about this job?..........or u mean that the IP is completed..........I mean status is green in BI side........
U r saying that still job is in active in the source system..............that means the extraction job(BIREQ*) is still running...........If the IP is showing completed in the BI side............then in the source system.........open the job through SM37............select the job >> In the top JOB tab is there >> Click on it >> then click on  Check Status............see whether the status is changed to finished or not........
    Hope this helps.........

  • Source Systems tree in RSA1

    Hi!
The top level of Source Systems tree consists of folders BI, SAP etc. Is the folder BI empty after system installation?
    Thanks,
    Olga

You should have self client, because you will send data from ODS to other targets also, here BW system itself will act like source system.
    To create it:
    Goto SM59-- ABAP Connections-- Create..
Here you have to creat the self client for the BW system. Take Basis help to creat it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Multiple DataTargets in a BI 7.0 System to One DataSource in Source System

Currently, I do not have access to BI 7.0 system.  I am wondering whether it is possible to connect MULTIPLE DataTargets of a single BI 7.0 system to ONE DataSource in the source system?  I have searched the forum, but I couldn't find relevant posts.  If I am not wrong, until BW 3.5, once a DataSource is assigned to an InfoSource, it can not be assigned to any other InfoSource of the same BW system.  I have heard that this has changed in BI 7.0 with the new DataFlow concept.
The current requirement is that multiple DataTargets of a single BI system need to get DELTA data from the same DataSource in the source system.  If this is technically possible in BI 7.0, should the source system also support such an assignment (since the DELTA load timestamps are maintained in the source system)?  What source systems currently support this feature, if any?  What are the appropriate tables in the source system that I need to look at to do further investigation?
All the useful inputs regarding these questions will be rewarded with points.  Let me know if you need any further clarification of the requirement.  Thanks!
    Sameer

    Hi Sameer,
But since there is only one transformation between the PSA and DataTarget, all the data (irrespective of the indicator) will flow through unless I filter on the "planning stage" indicator
You can create one transformation between Datasource and ONE DataTarget. But in your case, you have TWO datatargets. So you have to create two DTP's which can have diffrent filter parameters.
You can fill two different targets ( cube1: before manual update, cube2: after manual update) using your datasource.
For this, you need to create two transformation. Keep in mind, everytime you create a transformation you must create a DTP for data movement.
    So you will have:
    DS1 -- TRANS1-- DTP1 --Cube1
    DS1 -- TRANS2DTP2Cube 2
In DTP1 set  filter for indicator :X and DTP2 set  filter for indicator :Y. Both DTP1 and DTP2 should work in delta mode.
I would suggest you to create one initialization for your DS1. if it is not possible create two infopackages for two initializations. I suppose you have the indicator in selection parameters of infopackages.

Yes, you would need to check with BASIS team how they have created an alternate source system (for debugging) & prepare a RFC b/n these systems. Can you just check the settings in the source system and BI source system...and check the source system for the same BI system. Right click > Check and then do a restore or take the help of basis to fix it. What I think is a possible solution is : RSA1 > Source system > Search System > Right Click > Activate
