BI Tools with SAP BI

Hi
Can any one please provide more information on
IBM Datastage (BI Tool)
Data Quality Technology
and how they can be with SAP BI
Thanks

Datastage is an ETL tool which can be used to load data in SAP BI similar to other tools like Informatica et al...
IBM datastage used to have a SAP BW pack which used to connect to SAp BW infosources etc- but then since IBM was also an SI - support for Datastage was removed.
Data Quality monitor --?? not sure - could you please give links for the same..?

    Hello,
I'm looking for a third party content management tool which can be plugged with SAP EP.
Can you please suggest on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Adiga Shrinivasa

    Hi Shrinivasa,
there are a lot of WCMS Systems that can be plugged with EP. Just have a look at the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/contentportfolio">portal content portfolio</a> where you'll find some certified business packages to integrate some CMS.
I have good knowledge about CoreMedia and RedDot and they both run very well with EP. If I remember correctly,  the first one to be certified was a product from Interwoven, but I do not know that.
If you do not want to invest in some external product for integration (doubled license fee, doubled administrational effort, ...) you should have a look at the following solutions:
    1. easy Web CMS by btexx (quite good)
    2. business package for web editing by SAP Consulting (same)
    3. SAP web page composer as shown on teched (part of SP 20 in Q1 2007)
As I have a very close look to your issue (WCMS in EP) I'm looking forward to the web page composer. Maybe you should have a look at the teched slides.

  • Third party tool interface integration with SAP

Hi guys - here's an interesting one:
I want to integrate a third party tool with SAP.  The interfaces would be required to communicate both ways - sending data out and receiving data and populating relevant tables / transactions.  I, so far see a number of methods available to me that would be suitable and feasible:
<b>  - File based exchange of data
      - iDocs (custom or standard)
      - BAPIs (custom or standard)</b>
      - XI (but this method would not be feasible and would thus not consider it)
In all the cases above (apart from XI), I guess I would require a program that would call the BAPIs or distribute iDoc data or extract and populate file based data.  I have so far compiled a list of various advantages and disadvantages and just wanted to probe your expert minds.
<b>Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each method, providing a reasonable discussion as to why you think this is the case.  If you think any other method would be suitable, please list this too.</b>
The person with the most accurate and detailed answer will receive all the points.
    Thanks
    Mantas

    Hi Mantas,
The Pros and Cons in this case depends on the third party tool which you want to intergrate with SAP.
File Based Exchange of data: How conveniently can you push the data from the third party tool into a file.
IDocs: The third party tool should understand the syntax and symantics of the IDoc.
BAPIs: How do you plan to call the BAPI from the third party tool.
From just the SAP point of view.
Here are the advantages and disadvantages:
    1. File Based Exchange of data:This method is good if you can easily pass a file which can be uploaded into sap and the data can be stored in the sap tables.
    2.IDocs:
    Advantages:
If you have an existing IDoc that can do the data transfer then this would be the simplest method as only the settings are needed. No program is required to call this IDoc the settings automatically take care of this.
    Disadvantages:
If a custom IDoc needs to be developed then creation of a BAPI would be a better option.
    3.BAPIs:
    Advantages:
It is simpler to develop a BAPI than a custom IDoc which involves creation of segments, function modules etc.
    Disadvantages:
There should be an active online connection.
Some programming will be needed to call the BAPI.

  • Need connectivity of SAP Oracle with Third Party tool with dsn

    Hi Friends,
We need to access SAP's Oracle database with third party tool with the help of dsn creation. For that we need to create 2 staging tables and need a new segment for these tables. Our data will move from SAP transactions to these 2 tables and we want to fetch this data via dsn into another third party S/W.
I am unaware of such kind of working, can you please help me how to create new segment and how to create dsn for accessing tables in this segment.
    Our requirement is as follow.
The staging tables are required in the SAP database with user name and password. The user should have all access to the staging table only.
Requesting your kind help on this issue. Please suggest for further processing of activity.
    Rgds, Krishan Raheja.

    Hi,
Common way to integrate SAP (database) with third party Application is to use and implement SAP Connector (Java or .Net).
Using this, you can fetch the data from SAP database to use it in Third party application.
As per my understanding the method you mentioned, will void the SAP database license term.
So Please check before doing such configuraiton. Also that method is NOT recommended..

ARIS - stands  for ARchitectur Integrated Systems.
This is proprietary tool fof IDS Sheer AG,
In layman's words we can say its a tool create Flow charts.
In business we don't say these as flow charts but as EPC chains.
    EVENT PROCESS CHAIN
This is a Designing tool of any kind of activity, from 4.6b ( i guess) SAP has Plug in to ARIS tool even.
For eg: If i wanna go and buy Sandwich, eat and come back to home.
its vey simple to say but if you map this in EPC.. there are lot of things come in picture.
    steps
    1) I get up from desk
    2) Walk out of thehouse
    3) Start my car
    4) drive my car  to XX place
    5) I buy sandwich
    6) Should i eat  or carry out
if eat - pay for it
         look for vacant seat
         eat  sandwich
          get out towards car
          drive back  to home
    If Carry out
      Pay for it
      get out towards car
      drive back to home
      Eat sandwich...
it still depends on how micro level control you need .
for eg: in the above process we can also include
    1) pick up my car key
    2) Wear shoes etc etc....
Basic aim of this tool we donot miss any event ,and to have standard predefined process flow.
If some one has better answer, please let me know.

  • Reporting tools and SAP BW

    Dear Sirs,
We have Business Objects BI 4.0 and SAP BW 7.3.
Actually we are using Web Intelligence and BEx Query to reporting.
We have not Business Layer (Universe) between BW and BO because BO it's not supported to create universe (unx) on BW. So we create document in WEBI using BEx Query.
We want to use Xcelsius (Dashboard Design) 2011 and I was thinking that we can use query from universe to connect with BW (new functionality in version 2011). Can we? Or maybe we should to connect to BW using "Connecttion to SAP BW"?
We want to use Explorer (on iPad and iPhone), but Explorer requires universe (unx).
Is not possible to create universe (unx, because unv is not supported via Explorer) based on SAP BW, is it true?
We should we do, when we want to use Explorer with SAP BW?
Do I understand connection between reporting tools and SAP BW:
Crystal Reports - can I use cubes or BEx queries
Xcelsius - using "Connection to SAP BW"
WEBI - BExqueries or universe (but only UNV - old version).
Explorer - in my opinion is not possible
Analysis for OLAP - drirect to cube in SAP BW
    Could you please comment.

    Hi
With the current version of the BI 4.0 SP2 BI Platform, one cannot create a universe (.UNX format) against BW using the OLAP connection. However you can create a universe (.UNX format) using the Relational connection (see OSS note: 1656905 - How to create UNX universe based on Business Warehourse InfoCubes). One limitation is the use of hierarchies with the relational connection.
Then you can create the Information spaces based on the universe (.UNX format) that the Explorer can use.
    BO Reporting tools:
    1. Crystal Reports for Enterprise = you can use the OLAP connection (BICS) directly against the BW InfoCubes or Queries, if queries already exist in the BW system then you can leverage these directly (less time spent recreating the entire query in Crystal)
    2. Xcelsius = you can use the BICS or Web Service or Universe to access the data
    3. Web Intelligence = you can use the OLAP Connection (BICS)
    4. Explorer = you can use a universe (.UNX format) via a Relational Connection
    5. Analysis for OLAP = you can use the OLAP connection (BICS) to either a query or InfoCube.
It is hoped that in Feature Pack 3 which will be released later this year, that missing functionalities will be delivered for BI 4.0.
    Regards
    Derek

  • How to get web application to use Tuscany without conflicting with SAP SDO

    Hi,
We are attempting to run a web application on SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 SP1 which uses Tuscany SDO.  As it now stands We must use Tuscany because the web application will not run with the SAP SDO implementation provided by Netweaver. To ensure that Tuscany is loaded with priority, we have packaged the Tuscany JAR files and their dependencies as a heavy resource, as described here:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/60642a88-95fe-2b10-d387-a245d48fc257?overridelayout=true
The final check showed that Tuscany was correctly deployed as a heavy resource and included the following JAR files:
    common-2.2.3.jar
    ecore-2.2.3.jar
    ecore-change-2.2.3.jar
    ecore-xmi-2.2.3.jar
    tuscany-sdo-impl-1.1.1.jar
    tuscany-sdo-lib-1.1.1.jar
    tuscany-sdo-tools-1.1.1.jar
    xsd-2.2.3.jar
We also verified that the web application using Tuscany has a hard reference to the Tuscany heavy resource.
However, when we try to run the web application, the following error is logged:  java.lang.LinkageError: Class commonj/sdo/DataGraph violates loader constraints
The issue is definitely due to some kind of classloading conflict with the SAP SDO library, as the application runs normally when SAP SDO is manually removed from the classpath. Doing this on a production system is unfortunately not an option, though.
So the question is: how to get web application to use Tuscany without conflicting with SAP SDO?

I took a look at the "printerReady" example.  Looks like I may be able to use the InetPing (...) function to ping through a range of IP addresses looking for a response.
Any ideas on how to find the MAC address associated with the IP addresses that respond?
We may have multiple units responding and the MAC address will allow the operator to determing which unit to connect to.
I'll try the InetPing to see how it works,
    Kirk

  • Segmentation Tools with BW datasets

    Hello CRM Experts,
In our business scenario we would like segment with contact people.  In our CRM 4.0 system we use the relationship tab within business partner master data to define the link to the respective contact people.
The standard BW object BP: Relationships (0BP_REL) contains all the necessary details from the relationship tab in CRM. (BW 3.5 system)
Our design question is about the best way to reuse this information set without creating multiple BW objects with joins to OBP_REL.  The marketing folks would like to segment against CRM documents such as Opportunities, Sales Orders, Contracts, Service Requests, and Invoices and so on.  A typical business scenario may be marketing campaign (campaign X) against  Opportunities with a specific region and for specific $ amount.  The BW cube that holds Opps info (0CRM_C04) can only provide the Contact Persons cited in the transaction record.  If we would like to segment based on all contact people (master data relationships) we do not have this information in any transaction record.  Thus we could create structures in BW that join OBP_REL to structures that hold Opportunities, Sales Orders, Contracts, Service Requests, and Invoices and so on.
Within CRM is it possible to reuse data from OBP_REL and apply these relationships to other transactional data sets.  (possibly use an ADS objects in CRM?)  During segmentation for campaign X the BW system would provide the Organizational type business partners (sold to, ship to) to CRM.  Then using CRM tools can we easily link the organizational type business partners to the all the contact person type BP’s from the data set already in CRM from segmentation against OBP_REL?  With this strategy we would segment against any type of transactional record and reuse the link from Org BP to the respective Contact Persons BP (master data).
The segmentation tools are new to us – any guidance is greatly appreciated!!!
    Cheers,
    Chris

I was able to resolve the issue be installing the "Developer Edition" of BW tools from:
    SAP Development Tools for Eclipse
and pointing to: https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/kepler for the installation.
The SAP SMP (/service.sap.com/SWDC) version of BW Modeling tools was the same version (1.3.1) but did not have the description (Developer Edition) and a different path (id).

  • Integrating FIM with SAP using web services connector

    Hi
I am implementing the FIM web services connector to integrate with SAP. The MS connector config guide for SAP documentation seems to me missing some content or at least I think it might be written for an earlier version of
SAP than the version we are working with(different screenshots, options, etc). The version of SAP we have implemented is EHP6 for SAP ERP6 which I believe translates to ECC6.
SAP web services have been configured and FIM performs successful discovery of the wsdl endpoint and BAPI operations as expected. Our issue is that FIM fails to run a full import. From the digging around web service config and error logs two observations comes
    out:
    1. FIM Full Import workflow does not render correctly through the web service configuration tool and complains of a duplicate attribute "xml:space is a duplicate attribute on line on line 424 on position 103". Review of the wsconfig generated by the
webservice config tool points to an variable supplied to a construct the query to a BAPI of HR infotype 0006. Extract below:
    ...<InArgument x:TypeArguments="d:BAPIP0006L" xml:space="preserve">[If(Not IsNothing(addressInfo) AndAlso Not IsNothing(addressInfo.item), addressInfo.item, Enumerable.Empty(Of BAPIP0006L)()).
    OrderByDescending(Function(a) DateTime.ParseExact(a.VALIDBEGIN, dataSourceDateFormatValue, Nothing)).
    ThenByDescending(Function(a) Integer.Parse(a.RECORDNR)).FirstOrDefault()]</InArgument>...
I can only guess that it means the query should keep the spaces within the string it passes to SAP but this is where my understanding stops.
    2. SAP returns errors about not implementing a BAPI EMPLOYEE_GETDATA function which is not part of the exposed BAPI operations. Well the obvious solution to this would be expose this missing operation (which is undocumented in MS config guide) however this
BAPI is a core requirement to retrieve person information. I would be hugely surprised if this operation was not factored into the config. This makes me think that to understand this better I need to resolve issue 1 first and get the rendering sorted first.
Has anyone come across the above issues with a recent implementation with this connector? Or help point me in the right direction?
any help would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks!!

    Hi Joe,
you most probably missed the sentence "Add the required BAPI’s in the function group and select those required BAPI’s and click continue." in the "Connector for SAP.docx" document on page 8. In other words your webservice does not provide the required
    BAPIs.
In the "DefaultSAPECC_6.wsconfig" the workflows for import and export require specific BAPIs.
Also make sure that your Service Definition has got the same name as in the documentation and the workflow template.
I was fighting with this for the last 4 days but in the end got it working.
    Hope this helps
    Chris
