BIC2G-BI-LINUX 2009 32 or 64 bit?

I've installed BIC2g Linux image successfully and opened it using VMWare.
I've installed it on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit and I have 8GB RAM installed.
I have installed VMWare player 64 bit version and it shows 8GB RAM as memory in the "About" section of the player.
But the VMWare seetings for the image, only lets me set RAM upto 3.5 GB.
Is it because the Linux image is a 32 bit one?
cheers

jimhallers: How did you do this?
I use Ubuntu 64-bit and when I tried to install, I received an error. (I'm at the office right now, but I'll post the error when I get home.)
The error message is in the terms of "it's not compatible".
This doesn't seem right.
If you could share your install steps, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

  • Informatica Powercenter Repository connection issue in BIC2g-BI-LNX-2009

I have the BIC2g-BI-LNX-2009 image installed in a partition in my laptop.
I launch it using my VMWare player. My host PC OS is Windows 2008 Server Standard R2.
Everything is working fine so far except the Informatica client.
I recently installed the Informatica Power Center 8.6.0 client in the host OS,
as per the instruction given in [Page 52] of BIC2g-BI-LNX_June2009_Client_Install_Guide.pdf
Then I tried to add a repository as in Page 69 of that document.
After Step 4 and Step 5. I received the following error message.
    Step 4: Add a domain
    Step 5: Configure Domain
Unable to get repositories for domain Domain_Oracle2go.
Error: [PCSF_46008] Cannot connect to domain [Domain_Oracle2go]
    to look up service [coreservices/DomainConfigurationService].
Has anyone else encountered the issue? I'm completely new to Informatica.
    Any fix for this?
    Thanks

You have to give your repository name that you have created while installing Informatica instead Oracle_BI_BW_Base.
Let us know about the result.

But nnfyboot is not existing there!
2.) There is a file nnfgt.c which is generated by gennfgt
here maybe nnfyboot is not selected and generated due to:

Does anybody know how to force gennfgt to create also an entry for nnfyboot in libclnstsh?
If I am on the correct path anyhow?
    My best regards Michael

    Hi,
sorry, but the solutions presented in the mentioned thread do not plained thread, there where librarymatch my case with lenny64. The problem is taht the nnfyboot symbol is not in the library! In the mentioned thread there were library naming problems an missing libc6-dev, but here the libraries are all available and libagtsh.so does not contain the code for nnfyboot (but e.g. for nnfytboot, etc.). I think it is due a problem while making the library libagtsh

  • Do MacBook Early 2009 Model have 64-bit processor?

    I have a MacBook While 13', Early 2009 Model [ http://support.apple.com/kb/SP504 ]
I was using Leopard till date, but now want to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
I read technical specifications for Snow Leopard, and it says that 64-bit support is available with 64-bit processor only [ http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575 ]
I don't know whether my MacBook have 64-bit processor or not? Do any know about it?
Can I install Snow Leopard on my MacBook?
    Help me, Please.
If possible, please show me how can I find whether my MacBook supports 64-bit processing or not?

Note too, that unless you have more than 4GB of RAM installed, and have applications that are written in 64bit and can access more than 4GB of RAM, there is no discernable difference between running the 32bit kernel or the 64bit kernel.
Both the 32bit kernel and the 64bit kernel use a memory address system that can use more than 4GB RAM for those applications that support using 64bit memory.  The 32bit kernel itself can only address <4GB RAM for kernel processes, but since it is pretty rare that the kernel itself ever needs anywhere near that much RAM, the difference between the two kernels is pretty much a non-issue for most users (even those running 64bit applications in machines with >4GB of RAM installed).

  • Trouble configuring BIC2G EE+ Linux vm image; IP address is not assigned

    Hi,
I am installing BIC2G EE+ VM Image for Linux OS. I extracted all files and started the VM Image with VMware Workstation. I am getting one error when booting up the image.
"Determining IP information for eth0....Failed". Because of this error, it is not assigning the default ip address 138.2.4.127, so I cannot proceed with bringing BIC2g Launchpad via a host browser session. I am doing this from my home network environment, so I am not sure if this is related to DHCP server in my router. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    K

I was able to resolve the problem. This wasn't a BIC2G image issue, but a known network issue between VMWare 4 and Red Hat Linux. I found the solution via the following link:

  • Linux on 32 and 64 Bits platform ?

    Hi,
I have read the "Installation Guide for Linux" for XE. The supported, for instant, operating system are clearly defined but not the type of processors.
    My question :
Does XE work on Linux with a 64 Bits processor ?
    Thanks for your response
    Henri

question - especially for Mr. Townsend but any Oracle people?
The Linux 32 bit versus 64 bit issue is interesting, and there is - at least to me - a related issue about processor cores. If I run XE on an Athlon 64X2 under Fedora, it - if I understand - use one core. Can I run XE on a Sun T2000 with a single CPU? That's eight cores. Or fewer. Where is the "single CPU" definition constrained - if it is - by core considerations?
Still would like to see the x86_64 version :-)

  • Spotify 1.0.11 beta for Linux is out, with 32-bit binaries!

    Hello Linux users!
Today we've released Spotify client version 1.0.11 for Linux. There are some big changes in this version, and it's still considered to be a beta release, and will be in beta until the items in the "known issues" list below are resolved. If you want to try out this version, installation instructions remain the same as for the other betas:
    echo deb http://repository.spotify.com testing non-free | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/spotify.list
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install spotify-client
or if you have a previous version installed, simply:
    sudo apt-get upgrade
Since the previous public release (version 1.0.9), we've made the following Linux-specific changes:
32-bit binaries are now available! Now users on i386 systems can try out the 1.x betas as well. Please reply to this thread with any technical problems that you encounter on that architecture.
libnotify is now an suggested package dependency. If you don't have that library installed, this feature will simply be unavailable.
Updated application icon in the spotify.desktop entry
GPU acceleration is disabled (see below)
This build ships with the following limitations, of which we are still currently working on:
Proper dbus support for MPRIS MediaPlayer2
    There is no application menu
It is not possible to re-enable GPU acceleration through the settings
Important: regarding GPU acceleration, this is now completely disabled in the client, and we do not yet have a way to enable it in the preferences. This change was originally made in Chromium for Linux, but since the Spotify client uses CEF, we inherited this change from them. According to the Launchpad bug report, faulty GPU driver support was the single largest cause of crashes for Chromium on Linux (this graph shows how Chromium crashes on Linux have dramatically decreased after the setting was changed).
Depending on your hardware and GPU drivers, this change is either going to be a big annoyance for you or a huge blessing. For our users who experienced frequent and strange crashes with the client, this change will probably greatly increase client stability. For other users with certain video cards, scrolling performance and redraw rates may be noticeably choppier. Some users won't notice anything at all.
The obvious solution here is that our Linux client needs a toggle to manually re-enable this feature in the settings. Exposing this feature is not as straightforward as you might believe, or else we would have done it already. ;) However, we're working on a way to do just that, and hopefully will have something in place for the next beta release.

Thanks for your continued support for Linux! It _is_ appreciated! :) Any chance the queing over Connect is gonna be looked at soon? The windows client seems to only be able to queue one song. If there already is one song in the queue nothing happens when you try to add another (except for the weird reshuffling that happens whenever you touch the queue). And if there are more than 1 song queued, the windows client removes all but the first one. From Android it works almost always. This is the only complaint I have with the Linux version but it's kind of a deal breaker when using it soley as an headless music player. This sounds like a bug, and a non Linux specific one at that. I'll look into this, however there are some changes to the player stack which will also effect connect that we are just rolling out. These changes will not require a client update, so there is a chance that you'll notice this behavior "magically" fix itself in the upcoming weeks. Anyways this is not a known limitation from our end for Linux users, we will investigate this bug.Good. Controlling -> PlayingWindows -> Android: Queing in itself works. But the queue gets cleared when the first song in it starts playing.Windows -> Linux: As explained above.Android -> Windows: Queing in itself works. But the client shows information for the song directly after the queued songs.Android -> Linux: Queing in itself works. But the client shows information for the song directly after the queued songs. So ... abrakadabra? :)

  • New mid-2009 MacBookPro NOT 64-bit capable????

just bought brand new 15" MacBookPro5,3 mid-2009 model.
but it won't run in 64bit because it says it's not 64bit capable EFI and kernel??
    how can that be??
    what am I missing?

I know it was something that Apple wanted to push as one of the advantages of Snow Leopard... but the whole 64 bit thing has really just caused lots of confusion. They should have just announced it as a step in becoming a fully 64 bit OS. Lots of people now think they're missing out on something or not getting the best performance when their machines are not running in 64 bit mode... when in effect, no one would really ever notice any difference. It has also caused confusion with respect to RAM capacities. Many people were under the impression that if their machine was limited to 4GB or less of RAM that moving to Snow Leopard would let them access more RAM (which is generally the biggest touted advantage of a 64 bit OS). Even under Leopard, the latest notebooks were able to have up to 8GB installed... and MacPros under Leopard could support up to 32GB.
To be honest, the average user has no real understanding of the differences between 32 and 64 bit. But just like everything else... they see 64 is 2x 32... so it must automatically be better. It will be a while before there are many apps that are specifically developed for 64 bits. Even in the Windows world where 64 bit versions of XP and Vista have been around for years, there are very few 64 bit apps... and considering the giant market share they have, if there was a real need to move in that direction, you would have seen a lot more development for 64 bit apps. It's going to happen eventually... but by that time, it's safe to say that the 64 bit capabilities of Snow Leopard (or what ever version of the OS is out then) will be fully implemented.

  • Oracle Unbreakable Linux Version 5.3 64 bit

ANY assistance would be greatly appreciated?
when installing OEL 5.3 x86_64 version, had no issues with the NICs.
The system detected both eth0 and eth1.
During the installation, it provided the screen to configure eth0 and eth1.
When installing OEL 5.2 x86_64, experienced different behavior:
    1. After configuring the disk partitions, it did not bring up the screen for network configuration;
It continued to time zone configuration. The remainder of the installation process completed without
Issue. I checked the installation guide. This is normal behavior if the system does not detect NICs.
Post installation, the system did not see eth0 nor eth1. I tried to manually populate
The following network files in order to bring up the NICs:
    A, /etc/modprobe.conf
    Added: alias eth0 tg3
    Alias eth1 tg3
I used driver tg3 since this is the driver used on other linux servers on HP Blade servers.
    May be different drivers.
    B. /etc/sysconfig/hwconf
    Added: class NETWORK
    bus: PCI
    driver: tg3
    detached: 0
    device: eth0
    Rebooted with no success.
Additional Info: We are doing boot from san
OS LUN Size:: 60 GB - Raid 5
SAN configuration: We use SVC 2145 appliance. Actual storage array is IBM DS8100
    Hardware: HP BL490 (blade server)
Will reinstall OEL 5.3 shortly and gather network files in order to see what driver information we need.

just as you concluded, the NIC's are just not found with OEL (and therefore RHEL) 5.2, and they are quite probably added with version 5.3.
first thing is looking into your system using lspci -v you should be able to see the devices.
next: see all NIC's the kernel sees: ifconfig -anext: insert the kernel module: modprobe tg3 next: see if the NIC's are seen by the O/S now: ifconfig -a it's possible the NIC's are not supported by an earlier version of the tg3 driver.

I've never done any benchmarks, but I can tell you that file system checks are many, many times faster.
I do have a warning though, and it can be confirmed by others in this forum: ext4 does not crash gracefully right now. If you're on an unstable system, crashing can cause the loss of at least configuration files. My workstation is rock solid, so I've never seen any issues. Another computer that I was working on was having crashes due to an older Intel card with the newer xorg, and configuration files were being killed all over the place.
Thanks. another thing is that about application start up. for example for me firefox starts in 4 seconds, when i close ff and try to run it again, it opens in about 1 second. what it would with ext4 system? maybe it would launch in 2 seconds at first start?
It's hard to guess like that, but it's bound to be the same or faster. You're not losing anything going ext4 and it is a faster filesystem in general.
