BICS: BI Consumer Services

Hey experts,
I'm looking for information on SAP BI Consumer Services (BICS).
The only thing I found is that BICS is a layer between BEx and BI.
What is BICS? Why should I use/need it?
Where can in find some info?
Thanks
Steven

This is used with data transfer between the SAP business objects XCelcius tool and the SAP BI system, The SAP BOBJ WebI tool can also use this insteal of the MDX interface,  Also the visual composer uses BICS.  So unless you use these tools you do not need to worry about BICS.

  • Access "Business Intelligence Consumer Services (BICS)" over WebDynpro Java

    Dear all
I have to access the SAP BI from WebDynpro Java.
At the moment I do this over the BI-JAVA-SDK which has unfortunately no integration with the BEx-QueryDesigner.
    Therefore my question:
    1. Is it possible to access the SAP BI over the "Business Intelligence Consumer Services (BICS)"? And if yes, where can I find the corresponding documentation? (I have not found it by myself)
    2. What is your preferred way to get data from the SAP BI in WebDynpro Java?

  • Error While creating ABAP Consumer Service using Provider service  WSDL.

    HI Friends,
We are trying to consume service from Provider service.
Provider service is developed on CE 7.11-NWDS7.11 and published in CE7.11 registry.(used outside in method and implemented in EJB/Deployed/Published/tested) sounds good.
We are trying to consume in ABAP (ECC 6.0 EHP4 SPS16).
when we are trying to create service  consumer from se80  selected url :  provider WSDL picked up from from Service registry.
At the end of wizard its throwing error.
    error description.
Message Policy in Name space "http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/09/policy " is not unique in WSDL.
    Unable to generate proxy.
    Any pointers to resolve this.
    Regards
    Chandra

I would suggest to test the service in XML Spy using the same WSDL or the URL of the WSDL. If XML Zpy throws the same error, there could be some problem in the provider service generation itself..!!

  • Oracle Service Bus: Monitoring/Tracking Consumer Services?

    Hi,
since we have a Oracle Service Bus and a Oracle Service Registry, is there any standard solution for tracking which consumer services/applications are accessing which provider services? What we need is monitoring the applications (consumer) which are accessing an specific service (provider) registered in the OSB. Is it possible to have this information as monitoring/statistical data in the Oracle Service Bus console? if not, any suggestion to implement such behaviour ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Antonio.

I would like to have (don't know where) a list with all my consumer services (outside OSB) and so map them with the accessed proxy services (providers on OSB). The aim for this functionality is being able to monitor which consumer services from outside the OSB (then I need a place where these services can be identified and listed) are accessing specific proxy services published as providers on the OSB. Is like "well, I have my proxies published on the OSB, but I need to know WHO (consumers outside the OSB) is accessing to them?". I don't know if such functionality is provided by the Oracle Service Registry or the Service Bus, or it's just a custom implementation without any Oracle product.
Thank you for your help Manoj!
    Antonio.

  • Consuming service at receive port

    Hi ,
i need to know that, what does it mean by consuming services at receive port .
how does it work i mean if it is a receive port then how it send request to a service.
    thanks
    R...Raj

    Hi Raj,
Firstly Understand Service, It is some functionality which you want to either use it or expose it to be used by others (client).
And the interaction is done using Message. In BizTalk
context we can publish Schema as a service and Orchestration as a service.
So if you have any service exposed, say
    Orchestration which accepts
    Order and sends Invoice as
    response, the client
will use it by sending message (Order) accepted by your service. And if you have designed your service  to respond back to
client then you will be using Request-Response. (Synchronous)
And if you are not sending a response back to the client then One way Request port (Asynchronous).
Have a look at Synchronous and Asynchronous Operations
Apart from this the response based on transport protocol is sent.
Have a look at HTTP Status Messages

  • SharePoint 2013 - consuming service applications from a 2010 farm?

    Hi all,
This question relates to both SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013. Does anyone know whether it is possible/supported for a SharePoint 2013 farm to consume service applications from a 2010 farm (search/UPS etc. via SA publishing)?
There’s obviously plenty of documentation explaining how this would work the other way around (2010 farm consuming SA’s from a 2013 farm). Unfortunately, I haven’t found that much info on the scenario I’ve described above.
    Many thanks
    Matt

I don't know that it won't work, but in the article dealing with upgrades MS specifically recommends upgrading Services Farms first when upgrading mixed installs.  So you should be able to share a 2013 service with a 2010 farm, but not the other way
around.  You can read about it here:

  • Disgusted after sales service and consumer service

    Hi,
Being sent on a business trip from France to Russia (to Bratsk) and having problems with my PC, I made a decision to purchase a smartphone Blackberry in order to be able to work on my emails and to be able to use a BBM with my colleagues for business conversations.
The official partner of Blackberry in Russia is Beeline. Before choosing the phone, I have informed the vendor about the options I need. He has recommended me a BB Torch 9800.
The same evening, having my new BB in my hand in the hotel room, I have discovered that Wi-Fi is not available for BB. This option didn´t simply exist in the phone!!!
Next morning I went back to the shop and wanted to return the phone and get my money back. No chance!
I was refused and another vendor gave me very long explanation saying:  I can use Wi-Fi only if I get the software updated via Inet.  That Wi-Fi option is blocked because of request of Federal Security Department, as BB’s server is based in Canada…that it is out of their control etc… that the customer service for BB doesn’t even exist in Russia. Finally, IwasadvisedtouseinternetprovidedbyBeeline (notforfreeofcourse) andthediscussionwasover.
It was very "kind" of him to give me all this information I did't really need after he received my money.
The software was updated after several trials, but the access to I-net is still limited, and BBM is forbidden for use in Russia no matter what.
After second unsuccessful attempt to return or change the phone I’ve contacted the Federal service for protection of consumers' rights. According to their answer, I have to PROVE the lack of information or the fact of wrong information given to me by vendor! Seems to be impossible, as normal and trustful consumer I don’t have a recorder in my pocket while shopping.
I feel that the aftersales/consumer service needs serious attention and I will not purchase another BB again.
I feel abused, deceived and deluded by Beeline, as well as by BB, choosing such a crook as a partner...

  • Has anyone customized the Consumer Services portlet?

Has anyone customized the Consumer Services portlet?
    RequestCenter 2006.0.7  (1961)
Has anyone customized the main Consumer Services page?
We are trying to make the services customer friendly and have been hitting limitations on the categories and descriptions.
I have added html (tables, links and pictures) to the service descriptions but I am  hitting the 4000 character limit on the field.
If anyone has come up with a HTML driven catalog, I would like to know how it was done.
    Thank you

Every category, including the MyServices home page (Consumer Services category), has 3 presentation areas - Top, Middle and Bottom. These are displayed when the a user clicks the category name in the catalog.
In RC06 these are still labeled Left, Right and Bottom in Category Manager. You can access these on the Presentation tab of each category:

This forum is for questions about Visual Studio Integrate, yours seems to be irrelevant。 Please elaborate with detailed information:
    1. What kind of project? Winform, WPF, ASP.NET or VS extensibility projects?
    2. What language? C#, VB.NET, C++ or?
    3. What kind of wsdl? Does svcutil.exe work for you to generate a proxy client class?

  • Visual Composer and BI Consumer Services questions

    Hi experts,
Does anybody know if, with VC 7.1 EhP1, it is possible to use the BICS service on a separate BI java instance? The reason I am asking is that we have the following systems:
    BI (ABAP) 7.0 EhP1
    BI (java) 7.0 EhP1
    CE 7.1 EhP1
and most probably, both BI java & ABAP systems will evolve together at a different pace than de CE system. With that in mind, maybe it is recommanded to use the BICS services hosted on the BI java instead of CE.
If you have any opinions or recommandations on the subject, I will be more than happy to hear about them.
    Nathalie

    Hey Grace,
It is very much possible... to access BI Java (7.0 ehp1) you create a system in your CE 7.1 portal (system administration) and in query wizard of VC select this system... In this way you can access all queries of BI in VC CE 7.1.
to access BI ABAP system... you can create RFC destinations in your CE -> netweaver administration -> RFC destinations / Jco destinations.
we are also following same landscape.... let me know if you have anymore questions...

    Hi Gurus,
We are using BOBI 4.1 and we have created a webI report and while refreshing the report, we are facing the below error first time. After we close the error message and if we refresh again, its working fine. I have found one note (1724168 - Hierarchy error when refreshing a Web Intelligence document) stated that its a bug in 4.0 and its resolved in 4.1. But still am facing the same error in 4.1. Kindly help me to resolve the issue. Anyone input is highly appreciated.
    Thanking you in anticipation.
    Obinna.

    Dear Henry,
       Please find my inputs below.
What SP are you on? --------- BOBI 4.1 SP2
what does your webi query look like -   are you selecting a full hierarchy ?  ------- No
are you filtering your dataset at runtime using input variables / parameters? -------Yes. We  have used formula variable at BW level and I have hard cored its value at BO side in different queries (same report) by giving different value for each query.
Is your APS / DSL_Bridge properly up-sized on the BIPlatform?  what's the Xmx value in the command line?  --------- Xmx4G
Does your administrator monitor anything unusual in the BW  SM66/ST05/ST22 ? -------- Everything is working fine in BW system side.
How high mem usage seen task manager / PIDs on the BIPlatform? -------- Everything is normal (Total RAM Size 24 GB)
