Big, black box obscuring photos

I'm running iOS4 on a 3G. I recently recieved a video attached to a text message. I saved the video and when I opened the photo app, the thumbnail for the video was in the lower right hand corner of a large, black box that obscured several other photo thumbnails.
I thought it was just a peculiarity of the video I had saved, so a few days later, I deleted it. However, the black box remains. I've since saved a photo in the hopes that it would overwrite whatever the box is, but it, too, just displays in the lower right hand corner.

Any help? If I can help it, I'd really rether not have to do a factory restore.

I took video with my iPhone.  Downloaded video to my iMac. When I attach the video to an email, there is a big black box with no video.  Why?

Have you solved this issue yet?  I have the same problem using my Mac OS X Lion and iphone 5.  Thanks!

  • ? I opened the "get started" page and "How to edit a photo-" but I just see a big black box and some text and no way to work with anything. I downloaded the photos and opened them and there they are.

Is there supposed to be a video in that black box?

Yes those are supposed to be videos. I can see them now. These videos are hosted on Youtube. Some people have experienced temporary issues but later have been able to view the videos. I suggest coming back and trying again, or try another browser.

  • I just put up a new iWeb website and firefox is putting BIG BLACK BOXES around all my photos. Why has this not been fixed yet? I have to tell everybody who views my site NOT to use Firefox. This is unacceptable. Please fix ASAP. This is my site below.

with 3.6.19 it works well, no black boxes
with 5.0.1 there are black boxes

You will have to wait for Firefox 6 to get this fixed. It is a bug only in Firefox 5. That bug existed when the Firefox 5 code was split off and Firefox 5 didn't get the fix that later version got.

  • HELP My font list doesn't appear in FCP X.  All I see is a big black box with no fonts.

When I go to change my font on a title in FCP X - all I get is a big translucent black box with no listing of my fonts.  As I move my mouse within the empty black box, the fonts do appear to change in the title, but I can't see the fonts's names etc.  Is anyone experiencing this problem???  ANy way to fix this????

Have you tried trashing your preferences?
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs when FCP X (or any of the Apple Professional Applications) are working normally. Then when either of the applications are acting strangely, Trash the Preferences, then Restore from your backups (just a mouse-click).
If you trash the prefs and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then your backups are up to date.
Doesn't fix every problem, but it fixes a lot.

  • Big black box where file chooser was, can't close or remove

I have a problem with Dreamweaver on my mac.
I have a Macbook running 10.6.2 with 4gb ram and plenty of HD space.
I am running DW CS4 Version 10.0 Build 4117. I have run both the Adobe updater and the Mac OSX undater.
Here is a screen grab of the Black Box that appears.
    http://picasaweb.google.com/BenLeeke/DreamweaverGrab?feat=directlink
And a screen cast showing what happens.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxLX2SKtKA0
I have trashed the Cache file as per.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
One thing to note is that this problem does not occur in a different user account.
    Only in my main account.
In my test user account there are no problems.
    Any ideas?

    Okay. With the folllowing one:
"Warning! The registry setting used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
... this was probably caused by them clearing the device filter drivers in your registry. (That's a fairly standard troubleshooting step with a boot-up failure.) If it's not fixed by getting iTunes properly installed again, we'll attend to it later on.
First we'd better get an itunes installed.
"The path C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 7.1.1.5\iTunes.msi cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again or try to find the installation package "iTunes.msi" in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes."
Hmmmm. I'm thinking that your Windows Installer got confused by the general recovery efforts too.
Let's try the following procedure to try and get a fresh itunes in there.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. Use it to clear any existing iTunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. (Launch Windows Installer CleanUp, find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover iTunes and QuickTime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? If so, does itunes launch properly, without the "registry settings" message?

  • Photoshop cursor show up as a BIG BLACK BOX?!! - HELP CS3

I'm not sure what happened, but when I select ANY tool other than the 'move tool' my cursor shows up a a solid black box of varying sizes. The move tool shows up correctly but any other tool shows up a a large solid square. If I hold the command, the black box converts back to the move tool... see screen shot below. I circled the 'cursor' in red to show the black box state.
Any help GREATLY appreciated. I'm not sure if my 2 year old pressed keys to turn something on/off or if my Macbook Pro is failing?
The black box in the red circle below IS my cursor...

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

  • Exported JPGs with patch have Big Black Box - ugh

I've seen a few other threads related to this, but I haven't found a solution: when I export a JPG that's been patched in Aperture, I get terrible corruptions - check out this example. It seems to happen every time. I'm on a 24" iMac with an upgraded video card and 2GB RAM, using RAW images from a D70 exported as mid-size JPEGs. Anybody got a fix/idea/something for this? Or am I going to have to clean my lenses more often ??

1.5.2 says it addresses image export, but it doesn't state which bug(s) corrected.
I haven't exported a bunch of images since, but I was plagued with this under 1.0-1.5.1.
    Workaround (for affected images):
Go into full screen. Pause for a second
    Export image
(I run Activity Monitor to show CPU activity)
Wait until CPU activity drops to baseline
    Go on to next image.
For really stubborn (i.e. lots of spot/patches), I would use zoom to 100% and scroll around the whole image to ensure it was all held in memory at full res.

  • WCS Map Editor Shows Big Black Box

Anyone seen this?  I'm in WCS and I select my map, and then choose the map editor icon.  When the editor loads, my map looks like this:

    All -
Been playing phone tag with Cisco TAC (the results of global enconomization and time zone differences).  In the mean time, my co-worker and I figured out that our problem was that the images were set to have a transparent background in GIMP before saving as PNG.  We typically do this to keep the file size smaller, but WCS chokes on it.  To test, I placed a white background and imported to WCS and it's all better!  Now, is there a way to replace an exisiting background map that already has APs on it?  I don't think so!  I'll follow the case through with TAC and see what Rahul has to say.

  • Can't get rid of black box around rendered HD footage.....

    I've read a thread about t
he "black box" that appears in HD footage, but didn't find an answer.
I use a PC, and edit with Adobe Premiere 3.0.
I have a Canon camcorder that uses MiniDV HD tapes to capture the HD footage, because I wanted
the tapes as back up, and the quality is better, in my opinion.
I capture the footage with the HDV capture in Premiere.
The captured file looks damn nice, full screen HD.  The book says the screen size is 1440 by 1080,
but the actual screen size looks to be 1920 by 1080.
When I open up the captured file in Real Player or Windows Media Player, there is no black on the sides,
and two strips on the top and bottom that are maybe 1/4 an inch, not a problem.
When I RENDER the editted footage, I click "export" and "movie"
In the settings menu, under General, I choose"File Type" and "Microsoft AVI."
In the Video section, I choose the "Cinepak Codec by Radius"
Under Pixel Aspect Ratio, the options are:
      Square Pixels (1.0)
      D1/DV  NTSC (0.9)
      D1/DV  NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2)
      Anamorphic 2:1 (2.0)
      HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333)
      DVCPRO HD (1.5)
There is also the Keyframe and Rendering menu on the left.
When I try to use the top options, I get variation of the file with about a 1 1/2 to 2 inch black box on all sides, but the aspect
is correct, or a 1 to 1 1/2 inch box at top, no box on the sides, but the frame is mushed down.
Or the frame is square, and the vido image is pushed inward.
An example of my initial video is below, where the aspect was correct:
    "Wildlife at Lake Fasse Point"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sisu86-HWV0
If I play a rendered file in Windows Media Player, even if I hit "Double Size" or "Play Full Screen," the edges will STILL be bounded
    by that big black box.
    I appreciate any help.

What does the free http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ say about your files?
Are you 100% sure you are using the correct project and output settings?

  • Black Boxes Behind Icons– HELP!

Hi! I like making my own icons and then taking IconComposer (Developer tool) and having it make me a icns file. It works great, except anytime, yes anytime, I put any kind, ANY kind of custom icon on anything, instead of the background of the icon being transparent (alpha channel,) I see a big black box behind everything. If there isn't something on every one of the 32 or however many pixels in my icon, black shows up. HELP!!!!

OOPS! I must not of turned voice over to "off" as previously suggested. All situations resolved.

  • Illustrator JPGs turn into Black box when pasted into Word documents

I have made JPGs of my letter headding to paste into Word documents. When I paste them they look like a big black box. It doesn't even seem consistant, sometimes it works mostly it doesn't. How can I fix this issue?

How are you "pasting" them? If you are exporting JPG from Illustrator use Worst's Insert > Picture > From File. PNG would probably be a better option for your export, though.

  • Black box with exclamation point instead of photo

I recently switched from a PC to Mac and used a transfer cable to move my photos into iPhoto. Small thumbnails look fine, but when I open some of them all I get is a black box with an exclamation point inside a white circle. This seems to apply only to SOME of the pics that were originally SCANNED into my PC as jpeg files. Although I suspected this was how photos imported, I did try the Rebuild feather, but that didn't work. Is still have my originals on my old PC, but I'd like to get rid of it. Is there still a way I can access what's on my Mac -- or successfully import from my PC?
Thanks in advance for the assistance!

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards

appears over the top of the image & obscures what Im doing. Its not present when I save the file - only when Im trying to work on it. I cant see what Im doing to the image
    Help !!

Looks like a bug somewhere in PS - would be interesting to find out if it's happening to more than just us.
Actually this looks a lot like a bug with a GPU driver.
Has the issue reoccurred since you turned off GPU usage?
My trouble is I just use PS and expect it to work.
Well, as Adobe did not make your computer, OS, GPU, … you have to do your own trouble-shooting to verify if the issue is actually with an Adobe application or with another component.

  • Slideshow settings  made impossible by a big black rectangle covering the upper-left half of the screen/photo,

Slideshow settings made impossible by big black rectangle covering the upper-left half of the screen/photo, appearing when I move the cursor. Disappears when I start the slideshow. Restart does not help.

    Thanks,
    -  First: Linc Davis' question seems to be relevant: Indeed, when I disconnect my second display, the problem disappears.  However, reconnecting the display makes the problem reappear again.
    - I use iPhoto 9.5.1. and Mac OS 9.5.2.  The machine is a MacPro first part of 2008 (not a MacBook Pro as I inadvertantly said in my original question). Processor 2X2,8 GHz Quad-core intel Xeon. Memory 6 GB, with new (2yrs old) 2 TB SATA-disk (WDC WD2002FYPS-02w380 Media) as hard disk.
    - Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing - with only part of the settings display (in Norwegian) visible.
    - I have looked for a solution in the iPhoto settings, turned the program off& on, and restarted the computer, all without success.
    -  The library is, as I understand it, located in users/[me]/pictures/iPhoto Library.
    -  No, as I remember I did not apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem.  I have regularly updated the programs, as they come, without checking the results on each program.
    -  I run a managed library
    -  Apparently there is 1,29 TB free space (out of 2 TB) on my boot drive [=central hard drive, see above?].
